The Joshua Tree House is a two bed two bath 1949 hacienda located 10 minutes from the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park in Joshua Tree, CA. This is a place for dreamers to reset, reflect, and create. Designed with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; from making local coffee by drip in the morning, choosing the perfect record to put on as the sun sets, or by relaxing in the hot tub surrounded by over 100 Joshua Trees and a starry night sky.
Instagram: @thejoshuatreehouse (all photos tagged with #thejoshuatreehouse) This house is very close to downtown Joshua Tree with many shops and restaurants about a 10 minute walk from the house. This also means that some sound from the highway can be heard. If you're looking for a completely silent desert experience, we would recommend our other property: The Joshua Tree Casita (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/10614974). Please also check that listing if you can't find the dates you're looking for. Welcome to the Joshua Tree House! This hacienda was built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) With over 100 Joshua Trees on the property, the views from the house are magical. If you're up for it, sunrise on the front porch is incredible. We estimate that some of the larger Joshua Trees on the property are as old as our country! *Mattresses and Bedding by Casper* There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms in the house, and works well for a group of friends, two couples, or small families. We can also set up an extra memory foam mattress in the hammock room (has privacy with pocket sliding doors) to accommodate groups of six.
Joshua Tree is a small community made up of musicians, artists, and explorers. In the village you will find locally owned and run restaurants, art galleries, music venues, and vintage shops. There are many wonderful places to visit during your stay at the house including the Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy & Harriet's, the Integratron, Salvation Mountain, the Salton Sea, Noah Purifoy Outdoor Museum, Crossroads, BKB Ceramics, and la Copine (a delicious new french restaurant in the desert).
  • Cynthia was a fantastic and welcoming host! My girlfriend and I stayed for three nights over Memorial Day weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The house is quiet and extremely clean and features a fireplace, plenty of porches for reading out of the sun, a great jacuzzi, and a nice kitchen. The location is a short drive from the park entrance and also conveniently close to restaurants, grocery stores, and the brilliantly odd Sky Village swap meet. Thanks, Cynthia!

  • This was our first time in Joshua Tree and this was the perfect home to relax in after all of the hot exploring we did all day. All of the guides, tips, & recommendations were perfect and we never needed to reach out for any reason. The house is central to everywhere we wanted to go and yet it still felt secluded & quiet. We still can’t believe we stayed in such a dreamy place! Xoxo

  • The Joshua Tree house was very well appointed and decorated with an attention to detail. The bedding was extremely comfy and it had everything you needed for a relaxing weekend escape.

  • This is my second time staying in Joshua Tree, but first time at the Joshua Tree House, and let me tell you it sure won't be my last! Sara and Rich have done such a great job at making this magical space really feel like a home away from home. Every room is amazing. Just like they said, the sunrises are unreal from the front porch. Made sure to get up for those both morning! Can't give this place enough positive reviews, you'll just have to check it out for yourself.

  • A special spot in Joshua Tree! Thank you for sharing your beautifully curated home with us!

    Morgan2017-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved every minute of our stay at S+R's Joshua Tree House. The home is thoughtfully designed, fully equipped and beautifully decorated. It was the highlight of our cross-country road trip so far! The area is awesome, and the house isn't hard to get to compared to some others in the area — it's right off the main road. Definitely stay at The Joshua Tree House if you have a chance! It's an awesome experience. We hope to return!

Jan. 23rd & 24th were cancelled & are open - will be sunny! With a geodesic dome loft & a large deck in the trees, you'll feel like you're in a tree house in the woods. Since we book so far in advance, if you would like to stay here, check out our other listing, the Hummingbird Haven: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6562632. We have been listing with airbnb since July '09 and have had the most reservations of any of their listings! So you've got to plan ahead if you want to stay in the Mushroom.
We have 10 acres next to land without fences so you will get to enjoy nature: just hang out on the deck, take a hike in the woods, watch the hummingbirds, pet the goats, go to the beach or gaze at the stars - as long as the moon isn't full. ; ) During the summer, if there isn't any nightly fog, we can see the Milky Way here. To check our availability, click on the "Request to Book" link. And yes, if it isn't available, it is already booked! If you want to stay here on a weekend, you will usually need to make your reservation request about 9-11 months in advance. (Please read all of this description before making a reservation request.) The cozy and clean semi-rustic cabin has a loft under a geodesic dome (the "mushroom cap"). In the loft is a Queen-sized super popular Casper Mattress which allows for very comfortable sleeping and just hanging out. We provide clean sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of blankets are also provided. The other "bed" is a couch that we can make up into a bed. If there are going to be 2 of you, but you want separate beds, please make the reservation for 3 or let me know ahead of time - there is a $10. charge for using it as a bed. In the loft, we have a 32" HD Flat Screen and a DVD player (no TV) for movies. (We have over 80 movies you can view as well.) On the main floor (a Pentagon) is the couch and a pull-out table. We provide a small refrigerator, a blender, Hot Air Popcorn Popper, French Coffee Press, an Electric Water Kettle, (ask about our other appliances) a salad spinner and dishes. Yes, we have a wine opener. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We also have a barbecue grill on the deck with an extra gas burner on the side. We provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, popcorn, butter, honey, sugar, nutritional yeast (for the popcorn!) spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks. Our well water is treated by an ozonator, a UV light and a soft water filter. If you have a baby and you won't be needing the second bed, make your reservation for 2 and let us know if you will need a small pad for the loft. Again, if there are 2 of you but you want to use the second bed, please make your reservation for 3. The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and a Natures Head self-contained composting toilet. Some guests have had a problem with our bathroom, so I want to make it clear that we have a curtain for the door to the bathroom and we require that you put your used toilet paper in the trash. (it won't smell) If you follow the instructions for how to use the toilet, it won't have any odor. If the thought of using a composting toilet grosses you out, then don't make a reservation here. ; - ) We provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6' you may have to do a little ducking here and there.) As Saturdays are very much in demand, (and we like to be free on Saturdays), we require a minimum 2 day stay on the weekends. Keep in mind that Friday and Saturday nights are $155. - $160. each. Therefore, to stay here on a weekend will cost $310. $360. plus the $35. cleaning fee, the $41 airbnb fee and the 11% Santa Cruz County Transient Tax of about $42. So for the weekend, it will be a total of at least $428. To stay for 1 day mid-week costs a grand total of about $200. On 3 day holidays, we require a 3 day reservation. (This includes Presidents Day, Memorial Day, M.L.King day, and Labor Day.) But to stay here on a weekend, you will usually have to book the cabin 6 - 8 months in advance - unless you are lucky to find a cancellation! Check-in time is between 4 and 10pm. If you want to come sooner or later, this can sometimes be arranged. Check-out time is noon. As we have experienced some damage from guests, we are now requiring a $100. security deposit. Although it feels very isolated here, we are less than 10 minutes to Aptos Village where you will find stores, restaurants, a health food store, Safeway, etc. We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay: 10 minutes from the beach (Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beach) as well as the 10,000 acre the Forest Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along Aptos creek. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 25 min. to the Beach Boardwalk, 45 minutes to Monterey and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, 50 min. to Carmel and 1 1/2 hours to Big Sur going south and San Francisco to the North. Yup, we are located in one of the most beautiful areas of California. (these times are not during rush hour(s) ; ) If you love hummingbirds, bring your camera. Our garden is the year-round home to many Anna Hummingbirds. (We usually have about 300 - 700 year-round) During the summer, we are also called home by many Rufus and Allen Hummers as well. So you have got to see our "Hummingbird Airport" where we feed them about 130 oz. of syrup on a summer day! Please, no smoking in the cabin or on the property. We used to let smokers stay here, but they stink up the cabin and it is a fire hazard outside. Some cell phones don't work here, but since we have free wifi in the cabin, if your phone works with a wifi network, you are good to call. You can sometimes get Verizon service on the swinging seat by the driveway. To learn about things to do in the area, do an internet search for Santa Cruz, CA. Dogs are welcome to stay here but with a few requirements: since we have so many animals, we require that your dogs be kept on a leash when outside (the goats get very nervous with large loose dogs). Also, we don't allow dogs in the loft or on the couch downstairs so please bring a doggie bed. (your doggie can go on the couch if you bring a cover for it) If that is difficult, let us know and we will provide a doggie pillow. We have a gate that we can set up so your dog can be off the leash on the deck. If you are bringing a small child, we can put a folding futon (2/3rds of the futon or a foam pad next to the bed ) Just let us know ahead of time. Keep in mind, though, that a child should not be left in the loft by themselves as the bed is fairly high up against the rail. As we are about 3 miles to the nearest bus stop, it is pretty difficult to stay here without a car. You are invited, if you feel you would be harmonious here. Pet the goats, check out our chickens, cats, miniature dog and enjoy the very fresh air. I might even teach you how to milk a goat. If you come here when there is no moonlight and the sky is clear, you will see lots of stars. Tired of the heat in the summer? Since we are on the edge of the "fog belt", it can be both sunny and cool here. If you want a noisy place, you won't like it here: most of the sound here comes from the birds or crickets chirping, the tree frogs croaking and the breeze blowing through the trees. People do live on the land here though, so don't expect it to be totally devoid of human sounds and the occasional chain saw. : ) (We feed the goats oak branches)
Even though we live only a 8 minute drive to Aptos village and the beaches, it feels very remote and private here. It is usually very quiet at night - sometimes we can hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach. There is lots of land to hike on and explore here as well. We have 11 people living here in a rather loose community.
  • Staying at the Mushroom Dome really is a unique and amazing experience. It was wonderful to wake up and look out into the trees from the bed. Kitty couldn't have been more welcoming. The hummingbirds really do live up to their reputation: dozens of mesmerizing little flying jewels. I can't wait to go again. One slight word of warning for people traveling with someone they're still getting to know: the bathroom / toilet is only separated from the rest of this cozy cabin by a curtain. If you're shy, brace yourself. That said, this place is absolutely worth it.

    Kat2013-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty was very welcoming and accommodating and the cabin is super delightful! She provides everything you'll need on your stay (including farm-fresh eggs and goat's milk... make some scrambled eggs with them, brew some fresh coffee, and enjoy out on the porch in the morning). We loved our peaceful stay at the Mushroom Dome and will definitely be back! (And our dog never had more fun!)

  • Mind blowing Place! Definitely recommend!! Kitty is an amazing host, great airbnb story and also check out the hummingbirds they are amazing

  • our stay at the mushroom dome cabin was everything we were after - a quiet and relaxing escape from the city.. the structure itself is really cool and the surroundings are beautiful.. kitty was very welcoming, as were all the animals on property.. finding the place can be tricky, so read the directions carefully, multiple times!

  • A coastal getaway you won’t forget! Kitty stocks the cabin with everything you could imagine you’d need. The surrounding property is a magical place to wake up to. Thanks again!

    Renee2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty and Michael have a wonderful cabin that's perfect for a getaway - it's close enough to a state park to go hiking (Nisene Marks State Park) and close enough to the coast/Santa Cruz to enjoy the beach - it's also far enough out of town to be secluded, but not isolated. The mushroom cabin has everything for a great vacation :)

    Grace2010-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • the mushroom dome cabin is an amazingly magical place that i highly recommend to anyone! kitty was such a gracious hostess -- she showed us her chickens, her hummingbird visitors, shared her fresh goat's milk and zuchinni, and provided lots of tips on what to do in the area. we had such a relaxing and peaceful time and hope to visit again sometime!

    Micaela2011-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely peaceful cabin, a bit tricky to find, especially in the dark, but worth it if you want to get away from it all (This is probably mostly to do with me not being able to access the directions email that Kitty sends out though). Unfortunately we were only there briefly before starting a drive down the coast, would have been good to have stayed longer and seen a bit of the area. Kitty was extremely friendly and thorough.

  • This place is great! It lived up to our expectations. You can't beat the view and the uniqueness of this place. There are many cute details that truly makes this a LOTR fan's dream stay. I can't decide what's better, the fun theme or it's location. Being up the mountain, made for a wonderfully relaxing setting. Sitting on the front porch in the morning, drinking coffee in serene silence was what our souls needed! As for the coffee, I love that she had stevia! Not a usual ingredient away from home. The bed was super comfortable and the propane fireplace made for a very romantic getaway. I reviewed it on our blog, with lots of pictures. Hopefully this helps with your decision to stay here! (Website hidden by Airbnb) Helpful Tips- -We took a couple wrong turns getting up there, but the coordinates that were given in the confirmation email helped us get there! So if you get lost, use those coordinates. -There's a slight hike from the car to the inn. For easiest packing, I'd use a backpack instead of regular suitcase. Make sure to bring snacks with you! The closest food is minimum of 20 minutes away.

  • The hobbit hole is absolutely magical. The setting is even more beautiful than in the photos, and the house has so many clever details. I'll definitely be back!

    Amy2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • A great fun and relaxing time.

    Roger And Kathy2018-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was well worth the wait! What a spectacular home that really makes you feel like you walked into the movie. All the little details just added to the overall charm of the place. Sat outside all evening to watch the sun go down and listen to the birds. So cozy and if you love LOTR, you will love this place.

    Lindsay2018-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • I was impressed with the beauty of the view and the uniqueness of the Hobitt Hole. I would however stress the access issues for anyone such as my husband (who uses a cane and has any mobility issues) I think the path was too steep and very narrow which was downplayed in the description. A days stay was sufficient, we stayed 2 any more be prepared. Limited Drinking water is and issue which was not foretold of in any way. I had brought an ice chest with some food and a little water after reading previous reviews. We ran out of drinking water day 1 as the bottle was not full when we arrived. There was no way to contact anyone for assistance from the location..I nor my husband wanted to trek the climb more then necessary so we boiled drinking water. Be prepared for a rustic setting. Bring any items you need for food and food prep if you don't desire the trip to town. Not bagend but close.

  • Here's the thing about the Hobbit Inn: you genuinely feel like you've stumbled upon a hobbit hole. Pure wish fulfillment fantasy come alive. There are so many ways to sleep overnight while traveling, why not enjoy a unique setting from time to time? We loved it, took the opportunity to snap a silly number of pictures, and left with big smiles on our faces.

    Sandra2016-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Hobbit Inn is a magical experience! Every square inch of the hobbit hole is uniquely crafted and thought out. The fire kept us warm and toasty despite temps of 7-15 degrees outside. We enjoyed the provided reading materials and games. There is a chess table and "question cards" to keep you entertained. We loved being off the grid - we did not have cell phone service or a television! It's nice to check out sometimes. We used our winter getaway to try out our new snowshoes and sleds. The area is simply breathtaking! We would highly reccommend a stay here! Our only negative was frozen pipes (which we were told about in advance- and received a discount as we elected not to re book for a different date). The toilet was not usable despite following the recommended advice for pouring water in the bowl to "flush it"! We were not provided enough water (or information) for the bathroom situation. With that being said - go stay here and get lost in the magical world of the hobbit inn! You won't regret it!

The Off-grid itHouse brings together raw industrial aesthetics with the tactics of green design to forge a new home in the sunbaked wilds of the California high desert.
The Off-grid itHouse is an architecturally significant house, recently noted by Dwell as one of the 'Best Homes in America' and in the Los Angeles Times as one of the best houses of all time in Southern California. The house is 100% off-grid, powered by solar panels for energy and hot water, and is located in a pristine remote valley in the beautiful California high desert. The house observes key green principals of smaller footprint, minimal disturbance to the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, use of renewable resources, and living simply and minimally. Perfect for design or green aficionados, writers or those needing a secluded quiet getaway.

  • Linda's house is a gorgeous place to stay. We slept very well and would have liked to stay much longer. Wifi works. It gets quit cold at night. So bring warm clothes and use the fireplace.

    Dietrich2018-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was scenic and deafeningly silent. Only a couple of times another quad/vehicle would drive up the road, but besides that there wasn’t any noise. It’s a great place to get off the grid. My Verizon iPhone got no reception and my girlfriends AT&T got minimal reception if you walked up the hill a bit to the water solar panel. The place stayed well ventilated with a gentle cross breeze when you opened up the sliding doors. At night it was a little chilly (February), but the fireplace in the main room and an extra blanket kept us plenty warm. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay an extra night (stayed for 2). We arrived after sundown on the first night and the place was still easy to find ( (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps). Make sure to download the map before heading there for offline mode.

  • Beautiful house that I will never forget. I wish it could be a secret. The surroundings are incredibly quiet and the house is very calming. No TV, no Internet, no phone signal. I hope it stays that way.

    Justin2012-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • This quickly became a treasured place for me. There's an intensity of silence and beauty here that may be too much for some, but it was exactly what our group of three needed. Linda has done an incredible job of creating an exquisite glass box in pristine nature, well stocked and appointed, tastefully minimal, a place where time and space and the mysteries of the universe fold in on each other effortlessly wiping away all the daily grinds you may have accumulated before arriving. Magic!

    Paul2014-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's house is simply amazing. Us city kids getting us was an adventure. And to be away in the stark landscape is breathtaking. We love how the house is self reliant on solar power and we took pains to remind ourselves of how we need to be conscious of the environment. The house is gorgeous and built with thought. The sun will hit your face at 730am sharp on the bed and you will awake with a view of nature. It's really that amazing...and safe! No sightings of rattlesnakes or coyotes. :)

    Rachel2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed two nights during our honeymoon and would have loved to have stayed longer. This was the perfect place to decompress and disconnect from phones/tv/internet and to read and be with each other. Everything in the house is well thought out. We spent a lot of time reading and simply admiring the stunning desert view, which changes with the light throughout the day. Highly recommended.

    Kim2015-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • The itHouse was a truly special place! The views are breathtaking and the peacefulness of the desert is immediately relaxing. Watching the light of the day change, the moon rise and the stars start twinkling through the walls of glass is nothing short of magical. Linda was a lovely host and the house is beautifully appointed with anything you might need. It would be an absolutely wonderful place for architecture buffs, nature lovers, and anyone looking for the luxury of slipping off the grid for a bit. The itHouse is an unforgettable place! We can't wait to go back!

Charming and romantic,' Round' Cottage on the Santarella Estate in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. Formerly, the cottage was sculptor Henry Hudson Kitson's summer studio on the Santarella Estate. The two-story cottage has a charming bedroom with 35 foot high conical ceiling with canopied bed upstairs with views through massive, multi-paned "mill windows" to the trees and sky and out to the lily pond. The downstairs sitting room looks out on the babbling brook and lovely gardens.
Now open year-round! Charming, One Bedroom Cottage, former sculpting studio on the Santarella Estate in Tyringham, MA. Known as the "Silo Studio" Cottage. There is a bedroom with canopied queen bed upstairs and a sitting room with window bench-seat, coffee table, table and chairs, kitchenette area with wet bar with Micro/Fridge coffeemaker, toaster and bathroom with shower are downstairs. Fall asleep to sounds of the babbling brook and views to pond and forest from the large screened openings upstairs, like living in a "tree-house". Accommodates two only, fully furnished, all linens, towels included. There is Satellite DTV and Wireless Internet on site. The cottage is situated on four acres including lovely gardens, beautiful lily pond, running brooks and 2 acre woods. Absolutely unique, one-of-a-kind experience! Please Note, the cottage has traditionally been a three season rental from approximately March- November, however, due to much interest and demand, we have recently added a larger capacity pellet stove and made winterizing efforts and plan on keeping it open for guests interested in a winter experience in the cottage! Please keep in mind that access to our grounds may be limited with the accumulation of snow in winter months. During predicted extreme weather events, we will gladly work with guests to change reservations as we are always concerned for their comfort! Our lovely grounds are open to our guests. There are garden paths, babbling brook with stone bridges, loveliest of lily ponds, stone bench seating area with 'chiminea' and firewood for guest's use. There are two acres of woods with a loop trail as well. The town has an exceptionally beautiful Swimming Pond about 2 miles away which our guests may use. There are BBQs and picnic tables and it is often deserted. While we do have a pet friendly policy, prior approval and acceptance of our rules and policies is required before a pet may stay with you in our accommodations. There is also a $25.00 additional pet cleaning charge. The cottage is located on the Santarella Estate surrounded by gardens and storybook architecture. Santarella is located in the Tyringham Valley, tucked away 3.5 miles from Mass. I-90, a lovely and magical place where one feels like they have stepped back in time. This is definitely a place to 'get away from it all', enjoy quiet, rural surroundings close to the Appalachian Trail and Tyringham Cobble for hiking and many lovely ponds for swimming or kayaking. Vehicle is necessary. Grocery and other shopping at 3.5 miles.
Tyringham Valley was one of the original settlements in Western Massachusetts. It is mostly agricultural conserved land giving it a very rural, bucolic and idyllic character. The lovely 'Hop Brook' runs through the middle of the valley which is sparsely populated with mostly historic homes, making one feel like they have stepped back in time. An original, beautifully preserved Shaker settlement sits on top of the hillside opposite Santarella, overlooking it. At the far end of the valley, the gracious columns of the burned Ashintully mansion overlook the entire valley and are all that remain of the gilded-age estate which has beautiful preserved formal gardens, great to visit and hike. The Appalachian Trail is 2.25 miles from the cottage.
  • We were contacted almost immediately by Denise when requesting a reservation. She also kept in touch with us as our stay got closer. The silo cottage was just as described and we hope to stay again.

  • Romantic and rural. Favorite airbnb, and tiny house. Denise was like a professional travel guide, great advice on the local area and activities, while respecting our privacy.

  • Enchanting, magical and unique! This is truly a special place and Denise and Dennis are wonderful to work with! The silo was well appointed, warm and cozy and my husband and I felt like we had stepped into a fairytale. Don't pass up an opportunity to stay at the silo!

  • My boyfriend and I came down for Christmas to visit his family in the area. We chose this cottage as a quite retreat after family activities. Denise was very welcoming and showed us around the cottage. It is very unique and I loved the character of the place. When we were checking out, she showed us around the property and the other buildings. We got to hear a bit of history and the way Denise and her husband have fixed up the estate since purchasing it in the 2000's. Overall, a lovely stay.

  • The pictures don't do this place justice; it's like the backdrop for a fairy tale, beautiful and peaceful. We had everything we needed while we were there. We tried a couple of Denise's recommendations around the area and were definitely not disappointed.

  • Exquisite, magical, and charming are only a few adjectives that encompass how wonderful this Silo is. This location is truly a very special place, which I highly recommend visiting. I have no doubt that it will exceed your wildest, expectations as it did mine!

  • The Silo was like living in a fairytale just beautiful. Pictures do not do justice. The grounds are beautiful very relaxing and close proximity to NY, Ct border and all the MA Berkshires has to offer. Thank you Denise for sharing this special property

Red cinder leads you through the dense jungle to your secluded bamboo treehouse. Nestled on top of stilts 15' up in the canopy of the local flora, ascend to your retreat via the trapdoor or begin your adventure in Volcano National Park 10 miles away.
Upon arrival, let the red cinder path be your yellow brick road as you are lead through the jungle to your personal paradise. At ground level you will encounter a hanging bed, suspended beneath the floor of your new living quarters. Stop and relax or continue up the staircase to the trapdoor. It is through this trapdoor that you are allowed access to the lanai amongst the canopy of trees. A beautiful wrap around lanai allows for a 360 degree view of the lush jungle, while two sliding glass doors grant access to the bedroom. Upon entering, you will notice that the generous windows and doors allow for natural sunlight to flood into the house, complementing the bamboo fixtures and vintage 1970s wallpaper that backs the bed. The white bed linens reflect the light giving a dreamy, cloud-like aura to the space. There is counter stocked with a local coffee and snacks nestled into a corner of the house and overlooked by the handcrafted porthole windows. Bamboo backed cubby holes and hangers furnish the wall behind you and create an elegant, minimalist closet space for you to store your personal items for the duration of your stay. Just past the closet is a sliding door that accesses one of the most fun areas of the house: the bathroom. The bathroom jalousie windows stretch from the floor to the ceiling and the horizontal glass plates open up, creating an indoor-outdoor effect. Naturally caught rainwater cascades from the large shower head above before disappearing into the floor boards below. You'll notice that the natural theme spills over into the bathroom with sustainable cork board backing the shower and air plants intermittently growing throughout. The toilet and hand-made rock sink in the corner make use of grey water eco-principles by allowing you to wash your hands with fresh water before it goes on to fill the bowl. One of the most fun aspects of this property is that it allows you the opportunity to experience true off-grid living without sacrificing any of the comforts of normal life. Natural lighting, solar power and rain water catchment are the three principles that have been integrated into this tree top design, making it almost like a living organism itself. The beauty of this high flying haven is in the details. I spent the better part of three months personally constructing the building as well as the accessories inside. My goal was to create a customized and secluded space for your occasion. The chandelier, hanging lights, port-hole windows, rock sink and platform bed were all DIY projects that I specifically created to enhance your experience. The bamboo pillars that 'support' the lanai and the moss carpet under the hanging bed were harvested from local areas on the Big Island. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION Don't worry, the capital letters are just to emphasize importance. I'm not mad at you. But please read this entire section before making a reservation. As lush and inviting as the Dreamy Tropical Treehouse is, there are inevitable 'challenges' that come with staying in an off-grid treehouse in the Hawaiian jungle. My goal is to give you an experience that combines adventure and luxury so I want to make sure that you are aware of the following things: 1. The treehouse is about 15-feet off the ground and is only accessible by the 'ladder-stairs'. 'Ladder-stairs' is just another way of saying 'very steep' stairs. There is a hand railing and none of my visitors have ever had a problem going up and down. There is a pulley system for hoisting up your bags. Only those who believe they are physically capable should book a stay. Just remember to go up and down the stairs facing them... like a ladder! 2. The running water comes from the rain falling on the roof and is not treated; therefore, the water is not potable. I will provide several bottles of drinking water. 3. The electricity you use is generated by sunlight and is stored in a battery. Once the battery runs out of power it has to recharge. This shouldn’t happen but just be mindful not to leave lights or power hungry items running for extended periods of time (No hairdryers). The windows allow for plenty of light during the day. 4. This is the rainy side of the Big Island so expect some showers! Realize that the pitter-patter on the roof is the rain's first stop on its journey to the water tanks and then to your shower. Also notice how warm it is. Don't think of rain as a trip ruiner but instead an asset to be enjoyed! 5. There are bugs but this isn't the Amazon. For such a tropical climate you will be surprised at how few bugs there are. The main things you will see are moths, fruit flies (due to fruit falling off of the trees) and mosquitoes. Bug repellent is provided but it never hurts to bring your own. They really don't get that bad but their presence increases after a hard rain and during the twilight hours. Luckily, the hanging bed has mosquito netting that drapes down to encompass it. 6. Noises. Living off-grid in the jungle also brings about its own set of noises. The water pump and solar inverter will make soft noises throughout the day as they are used. The falling fruit from the vivie trees can also be alarming if you don't know what it is, and at night you are going to be serenaded by the sweet chirping of coqui frogs. Rustling branches, grunts and squeals typically means that the cute family of wild pigs is nearby. They are harmless and will runoff as soon as they sense your presence. Quietly grab the binoculars and, if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of them! All of these aspects are what makes this place so unique and, with the right mindset, they’ll only enhance your overall experience. Guests have free range to fully utilize every aspect of the house. The hanging bed, wrap-around porch, indoor-outdoor shower and closet are at your full disposal. I have recently installed a kitchenette that has a sink, cooler for storing food/drinks, and a coffee maker (also capable of heating up water). Any and all goodies stocked in the house are there for your enjoyment. Here is a more comprehensive list of amenities and features that will be available to you: •Indoor/Outdoor Shower •Toilet with Overlaid Sink •Organic Shampoo/Conditioner •Towels •Ample Parking •Tiki Torch ‘Flashlights’ •Hanging Bed •Table and Chairs for Lanai •Binoculars •Several Books •Outlets (3-prong and USB) •Kitchen Sink •Coffee Maker •Clean Linens •Gramophone Music Player for iPhones •Cooler for Food/Drink •Card Game Guest interaction can be tailored to your needs. My goal is to make sure your stay is unforgettable so you can always contact me via phone or email. Because I do not live on the island year round, a local neighbor can assist you if you have any problems that need tending to. Upon your arrival I can arrange to have someone greet you and show you the property or simply stow away the key for your convenience. The choice, of course, is yours. Even though I am not on site, I can always be reached. Feel free to call/text/email me at any time during your stay should the unlikely event that a problem arises. I will immediately contact the proper authority to have the problem remedied. The treehouse is located at the end of a neighborhood street making it very private. It is set about 50 yards off the street behind a windy, jungle path further adding to your privacy. There are only about five full time neighbors scattered throughout the neighborhood so don't expect to see a lot of people. The treehouse is about 20 miles from Hilo, 23 miles from Pahoa, 12 miles from Keaau and 8 miles from Volcano. Volcano is the closest place for laundry, good restaurants and groceries, though you will pay a little more for the groceries than in Hilo or Keaau. I recommend you stop on your way in from Hilo. When you book I will include a guidebook that has the locations, hours and prices of local restaurants and grocery stores. There is quick access to highway 11 and it is 10 miles from Volcanoes National Park. Numerous opportunities for sightseeing and adventures are within a 40 minute drive of this treehouse paradise and they will be included in my guest guidebook as well. This is the ultimate spot for couples seeking romantic seclusion in the middle of a tropical jungle or individuals who want to escape the world. Unless you feel like hitchhiking, you will definitely need a rental car with high ground clearance to comfortably explore the surrounding areas and access the treehouse. While nothing is 'far' on the big island, everything is just a bit out of reach by foot... except of course for those lovely, yet dense, jungle strolls.

  • As soon as we stepped in the door we felt welcome. Personal touches like Hawaiian cookies and a descriptive guidebook added to our experience. Directions to the treehouse and the operation of amenities were very clear and accurate. We loved staying here. It was unique, romantic, and wonderful. We would recommend it to anyone.

  • The overall experience was out of this world. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a once in a lifetime experience!

  • I loved staying at Kristies treehouse. I think it’s amazing she has built this herself - I loved the shower! I particularly loved the little details throughout the stay, and the snacks that were left for us. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the treehouse. My only improvement would be a safe to keep personal belongings in and for the 2nd sliding door to lock (nothing happened, but this is just for my peace of mind!). Thank you Kristie for letting us stay!

    Helen2018-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our host Kristie was incredible. Before my arrival, she sent me a nice email about things I should know about the treehouse as well as detailed instructions about how to get to the treehouse. She also gave us some ideas on places to eat in the area as well as some places to go see. I couldn't have been happier with the treehouse, it was impeccably decorated and perfectly nestled back into the forest for plenty of privacy. Inside was clean and cozy and the bed was super comfy. This treehouse was one of the cutest airbnb places I have ever stayed with so many well thought out little details. It was so fun to here the tree frogs at night and relax on the hanging bed below the treehouse. This was the perfect place to stay for an adventurous and fun loving couple, we will definitely be back. Thanks Kristie!

  • The treehouse was honestly such a dream. My boyfriend and I loved how secluded we were. You can really tell how much thought and detail went into this place. We will definitely be staying here again!

  • Fun adventure! Treehouse is thoughtfully done.

    Kathryn2018-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Phenomenal experience! How can you describe laying in a treehouse while the thunder rolls and coqui frogs chirp. 10/10 would Airbnb again.

*This cabin was featured in the New York Times in January, 2017. * A magical homesteader cabin embedded in 5 acres of unfenced Joshua Tree desert wilderness, 12 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. Experience peace, quiet, wildlife and STARS—on the grid but off the pavement. Important to note before you book: NO EXTRA GUESTS NO PARTIES (including dinner parties) NO DRONES NO COMMERCIAL/PROFESSIONAL SHOOTING (photo, video, film) NO GRILLING (fire danger is extremely high!) NO PETS Thank you!
If this cabin is booked on your dates, check out our nearby "Midcentury Prefab Homesteader Cabin." *** If you would like to use our cabin as a shooting location please get in touch to discuss our rates, otherwise we do not allow commercial or professional shooting of any kind (photo, video, film) during your stay. Thank you in advance! *** The restored cabin, which has been featured in the New York Times 'T' travel magazine, Wilder Quarterly, The Weekender and the book 'Jackrabbit Homestead,' was constructed in 1955 and still has its original green paint. The renovated interior has a cookware-outfitted kitchen and dining area. There is an outhouse with a dry toilet and roofless shower a few yards from the cabin. Wireless internet is available if you require a connection to the digital world. The cabin is equipped with air conditioning. Joshua Tree National Park is a 15 minute drive from the cabin. The Integratron and Giant Rock are also 15 minutes away. The cabin is less than two miles from artist Noah Purifoy's famous sculpture garden site. Two miles in the other direction is Dhamma Dena, teacher Ruth Denison's Vipassana Buddhist center. The always swinging Pappy & Harriet's BBQ and music roadhouse in beautiful Pioneertown is a 30-minute drive. The Lou Harrison House, which hosts occasional devotional, folk and avant garde music events in an intimate setting is less than 10 minutes away. We will be happy to give you directions to each of these unique places (and many others) that we frequent ourselves. The cabin sits on 5 acres, and feels remote, but it's just 12 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. You will travel a few miles on a secure, hard dirt road to get here. Enjoy the spectacular panoramic sunset and sunrise—as well as a blanket of stars. In the wintertime, you can build a fire too. Sleep comfortably in a queen-sized bed. The cabin is located next to BLM land and a wildlife corridor, which means you will witness these wild animals in their native habitat. The cottontail rabbits, cactus wrens, lizards, desert tortoises, jackrabbits, coyotes, owls and roadrunners (and more!) that make the desert their home make a visit to this serene cabin all the more special. Guests may have freshly prepared organic juices made by local juice cleanse guru Angela de la Agua delivered to the cabin. A menu/pricelist is available upon request.
  • Stephanie and Jay were fantastic hosts! I reviewed them previously and all the same comments apply.

  • we love this cabin! It's our favorite place to stay in the desert. it is so magical here and so special. the first time we stayed here was on our wedding night and it made our night so magical, peaceful and beautiful. we will be staying here for our honeymoon exactly one month after our wedding. Jay and Stephanie are very welcoming and accommodating. I would recommend this place to any one who would like to spend time in the desert.

  • The most incredible, charming cabin! We wanted to stay here so badly we came on a weekend during extreme heat. Jay was a fantastic host and was very accommodating and helpful, Our stay was very peaceful (uncomfortable at times from the heat but we knew to expect it) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I will definitely love to stay here again. Thank you!

  • The place is, awesome. Like seriously. It's pretty hot but the new air con that was just installed was perfect. The whole experience was great! It's kinda out the way which is sweet for nights as when it's clear you can see a pretty great nights sky! It's very close to Joshua tree national park. I only did that in a day, but if you wanted to you could totally spend a lot of time there! The outdoor shower was awesome. I didn't have to use the heater as it was so hot there, cool showers for the win! We only met jay and he was extremely helpful, I did forget to mention I was brining a friend normally it's notify within a week but he was cool with it and offered us the air bed! The wildlife is cool we saw a few things scorpions are way easy to find at night, just be careful!! Also we left the fly net open. Do not do this. We learnt the hard way and even had a lizard come in and make a home in our bag! We named him Bruce. There were maybe 2 things I would of liked, possibly laundry facilities, however I can see they're very cool o being environmentally friendly so I can see why there isn't, we kind a laundromat down towards yucca valley o to there as the one I Joshua tree itself was a rip off! And maybe one of those electric bug zapper lights, as I said our fault for leaving doors open but it's an idea. Overall, amazing stay In an amazing place with great great hosts!

  • We were welcomed by Jay on the evening of December 13 to his beautiful blue homestead cabin in the middle of a serene part of the desert. He was a great guide and gave my girlfriend and I some great tips for the weekend (including a meteor shower that was happening and the Joshua Tree farmers market). The cabin itself was cozy and uniquely decorated. The property was surrounded by some great art sculptures as well. Can't wait to come back to this desert gem!

    Theadora2013-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful experience! Jay and Stephanie were so helpful in finding their remote and gorgeous spot. Once there, Jay explained the amazing ways they work with their community to live in this incredible place... Unbelievable. And the stars do indeed shine at night. Highly recommended.

  • We are exiled southlanders and the location made us feel like we were home again. The view is astounding, the pool house is modern, comfortable and private and the owners are just lovely hosts. The pool and garden are elegant and welcoming. The pool house has a very private back garden where you can recharge and enjoy the bird song. Slept deeply to the tune of crickets and owls. Can’t wait to come back.

  • Amazing host, very easy to communicate with and everything exceeded our expectations. Great location in LA as well.

  • This has definitely been our favourite Air BnB. Everything about the pool house has been carefully thought about and designed. We loved using the pool and hot tub (and we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves for the week). Dennis and Alex are excellent hosts and were so welcoming. They were also brilliant at communicating quickly and offering help when needed. The private living space behind the pool house was lovely and we enjoyed using the BBQ most evenings. It's definitely useful to have a car for this property but we also used a few Lyft/Uber's. I can't recommend this place enough! If we are ever in LA again, we will definitely be back.

Good location to leave the city as well for day trips. We did not get to meet the owners but communication was very good throughout. Thanks DNA hope to stay with you again some day.

  • I enjoyed the time at Brenda very much. I liked my room. It is small but it fits, except for someone really tall or big. The position in the Castro is splendid. Interesting neighborhood, nice stores, bars and restaurants. Brenda and her roommate are very helpful and friendly persons, and you can come with every question. I would like to keep in touch.

  • Brenda and her beautiful house were exactly what I was looking for during my stay in San Francisco. The place was lovely, clean, cozy and perfectly located for jetting around the city. Brenda and her roommate (and adorable animals) were very accommodating, respective and full of suggestions for places to see, restaurants, coffee shops etc. I will absolutely be staying here again, highly recommend!

  • Thanks for Brenda for letting me stay. I came to San Fran during Thanks Giving like Christmas it's fun but busy period. Brenda took time out to make me feel comfortable. I arrived really late and Brenda waited up to greet me. Her place is clean and charming. The room she offers is nicely decked out. There is so much close by in Castro, let only why you have visited San Fran. Brenda is such a buddle of knowledge so don't be afraid to ask. I was at the end of my 4 weeks holiday, heading back to Australia. So once again Thanks Brenda for letting me stay.

    Greg2014-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda was an excellent host! She made sure that I had neighborhood maps and information about what was around me for shopping, eating, laundry, etc. I stayed for a month and she made sure I had fresh towels and sheets every week. She is super friendly and I love her animals, Boo and MuMu the cat! Staying in the Castro was close to everything and a very interesting and colorful way to experience San Francisco! She left me a card and a delicious chocolate bar as a farewell gift. I would totally recommend her as a host!

    Karli2015-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda was a great host, she was very kind, helpful, tidy, and on top of that was great company to just chill out and watch some tv with. She has the cutest pets with a dog that has the shortest attention span, and her roommate Serena was so sweet, and quiet, sometimes you wouldn't even know she was there. The room was a tight fit as she has mentioned to me in the beginning, but it's actually really cozy and I never went without a good nights sleep in there. It's a real cool looking room I might add, just don't try to climb the bamboo ladder.

  • The Pondhouse was exactly what I was expecting...maybe even more beautiful! Perfect spot to disconnect from all the outside (Website hidden by Airbnb) was rather refreshing not to have any internet service! Gayle and Peter are the perfect hosts, they respect your privacy but are always available when needed. A wonderfully unique experience that shouldn't be missed!

    Judy2015-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • The pondhouse was a wonderful and peaceful break from everything stressful in life. It was the easiest camping I've ever experienced and very relaxing and much more private and comfortable than a campsite. My husband and I loved every minute of it. We did have some lightning/thunderstorms and it was still great! Gayle and Peter were lovely hosts and I would go back in a heartbeat.

    Samantha2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time and our dogs absolutely loved it! It was exactly how it is described and shown in the pictures. It was a beautiful property and a very relaxing vacation. My only advice is to pack for the weather accordingly, that was my mistake for not checking the weather. It was very windy and cold and I unfortunately packed for very hot July weather.

    Patricia2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • The pond house was magical and a great place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. When we arrived, Gayle was there to show us around the property. Charlie also greeted us and I think he might be the coolest dog I've ever been around. Cooking dinner on the outside grill under the stars was a nice way to unwind. The bed in the pond house was very comfortable and waking up to nature was refreshing. The next day, we hung out on the property for a while. Gayle went the extra mile as a host and found a place where I could get a prenatal massage.

    Adriana2015-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time staying at the Pondhouse. We were looking for place to stay with our dog for an autumn weekend in the Berkshires, and it turned out to be the perfect spot. Gayle and Peter were fantastic hosts. They provided everything needed to make for a pleasant stay. Plus, their dog Charlie was the perfect friend for our pup. The Pondhouse itself is such a unique place in an ideal setting. It was so cool to be in bed looking at the stars and to wake up surrounded by beautiful foliage. Even though the nights were chilly, Gayle provide enough blankets to keep us perfectly warm. The Pondhouse is just down the hill from the main house, and is sufficiently secluded, without being too far from the other amenities. If you go, be sure to get the bagels at the farmer's market in Ashfield!

    Joseph2013-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was magical! The temperature got down to the low 40's the first night, but we stayed very comfy under the warm comforter. The Pondhouse is impeccably designed and offers a serene natural setting. Gayle and Peter are very gracious hosts, and Charlie the dog creates a fun atmosphere without demanding anything of you. Would go back in a second!

    Blake2015-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time. Peter was extremely accommodating and friendly. Everything was clean and comfortable. We had a great weekend of relaxing, beer by the camp fire and hiking. We would stay again without question. A great break from the city.

    Liam2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was great. Not a single complaint. Gayle provides everything necessary for your stay, which made it very convenient. Charlie kept us great company!!

Update: Florence had no effect on Charleston or any of our 6 rental boats. Welcome aboard Pirate's Life! Most questions can be answered in our FAQ found below. Featured on Tiny House Hunters, but far from tiny & dubbed “Charleston’s Best Airbnb Experience”. Pirate's Life was gutted & rebuilt using reclaimed materials, sweat, & love. You'll find her spacious, tranquil, & comfortable. Enjoy morning coffee & evening cocktails on the deck overlooking Downtown Charleston’s harbor.
Featured on FYI Network's Tiny House Hunters! Very spacious houseboat with vaulted 12' ceiling in the main cabin (living room). Sleeps 3 comfortably. Lots of room to move around with a queen size bed in the Captain's Quarters (Bedroom) and a twin bed in the living room that's a day bed. FAQ: Q: Location? A: Mid-Peninsula Downtown Charleston which is roughly 1.5 - 2 miles to the heart of the historic district. A five minute / $6 Uber away or take the bikes! The boats are located downtown in a private marina where our 5-6 boats are slipped & only shared with a large mega-yacht that rents the outside slippage 6 months out of the year. We rent this slippage from Seabreeze Dry Stack Marina (49 Immigration Street, (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) This accommodation is for people looking for peace and tranquility as the setting of the marina is quiet and secluded. You'll have a stunning view of Charleston Harbor and the Ravenel Bridge. Q: How can I see all of your boats for rent? A: Click on our Airbnb profile (the round photo) & scroll all the way to the bottom below the aggregated reviews (on Mobile) or look to the left (on Desktop). You’ll see all of our listings - or check them out by clicking the link below: Listing Page: https://www.airbnb.com/users/1918595/listings Q: 1 Night Reservations? A: You can instant book a 1 night rental if it’s the same day as your reservation OR if you see on our calendar that your date fills a 1 night gap. We kindly ask do not instant book for 1 night reservations if your desired date doesn’t fit that criteria - especially on the weekend. We handle 1 night reservations on a case-by-case basis depending on availability but can almost always make it work. We will respond to an inquiry within minutes most times, most of the time immediately. Q: Is it comfortable? A: VERY! Our boats are designed with live-aboard / stay-aboard in mind with all the creature comforts of home. Fully stocked kitchens, premium furnishings, updated HVAC, TV, Keurig coffee makers… etc. Q: Any restaurants close by? A: TONS! Some of Charleston’s best are within a mile of the marina. Q: How to book: A: If you don’t have any questions after reading over the FAQ below then simple instant book. If you send an inquiry we’ll respond promptly, if not immediately. Q: Why is the price so different for my dates? A: Airbnb automatically sets our prices based on demand & seasonality. If you don’t search with exact dates Airbnb shows the lowest price throughout the season. Prices range from $99 per night for weekday day-of bookings in January all the way to $499 per night for weekends during peak season summer and everywhere in-between. Q: Bathroom… explain! A: The boat is equipped with an apartment sized (12 gallon) water heater ensuring you get hot water throughout the boat. You'll always have enough hot water to enjoy a 10 - 15 minute shower. The boat has a full sized marine toilet that is easy to use as long as you follow our simple instructions. Q: Heat? Air Conditioning? A: Our boats are equipped with BOTH ample Heat & Air Conditioning. No matter the time of year you can be assured that you will be staying in a climate controlled & comfortable environment. Q: Can we take the boats out & drive them? A: No. We don’t carry any insurance for bareboat charters but we do offer captained Charters on specific boats which are really fun! Charters include sightseeing in Downtown harbor, sunset cruises, full hay & ½ day cruises, special moments like engagements, or anything else you can think of. All charter requests are handled via inquiry & paid through Airbnb as part of your stay. Q: Can I check-in earlier than 4 or Checkout later than 10? A: We will do our best. Most days there’s someone checking in the same day there’s a checkout but we try & go above and beyond if this is requested. Q: Can we fish from the dock or boats? A: Absolutely! We ask that you fish either from the side or front of the vessel & stay clear of the props so your line doesn’t get prop/shaft wrapped. Fishing from the dock is also allowed as long as you mind the props of the vessels. You can easily get a fishing license from the DNR online. We operate on the honor system & don’t check for licenses but ask that you support the local DNR & pay the small fee to make it legal. We don’t supply fishing equipment & keep in mind there are no tackle shops in Downtown Charleston. Shrimp from the local Q: What to expect that's different than a hotel? A: It's a boat, it is a unique FUN experience. There may be noises and smells that you'd expect from a boat. Pumps, motors, ocean water, etc. Every boat is broken the day it hits the water, especially salt water. We take great care of our fleet but we expect guests to tell us if anything isn’t working properly & we will PROMPTLY respond & repair. Q: Waves? A: The marina has a sea wall which dilutes any waves. We are also lucky enough to be tucked behind Drum Island at the base of the Ravenel Bridge. which dilutes almost all the waves from the harbor. There is still a small amount of wave action and you'll feel a slight rock from time-to-time, mostly from boats passing by who don’t respect the no wake zone (feel free to yell at them & shake your first while doing so). If there's a bad storm or the wave action gets to a point that your stay is no longer enjoyable, we will do our best (no guarantees) to work out alternative accommodations for you as we have multiple condos Downtown for landlubbers. Your comfort is our top priority. 99% of the time the marina is almost totally flat and calm. We also keep dramamine on the dock incase anyone experiences sea sickness. Q: Will you reduce your price? A: No(ISH)... Maybe, but unlikely. Don’t expect a price reduction unless it’s the slow season & you’re messaging about days within 1-4 days of check-in or you’re looking for a long-term stay in the off season (see next “Q”). If you message us with a booking that somewhat fits the criteria above & tell us a budget we can try & work with you on one of our 6 boats. “Will you reduce the price of a weekend booking a month away” will always be a “no”. Q: Do you do long-term or monthly rentals? A: We have done long term rentals in the past. From March 1 - October 30 the boats are rented at a 90% occupancy rate so the monthly rate is only slightly reduced compared to the daily rate (around 20%). From November through February we’re much more flexible depending on length of stay & which vessel you’re interested in. It helps us to know your budget and we can tell you if we have anything that could work. Q: Smoking? A: On the outside only & please be responsible. Kindly don’t light the boat on fire. Q: Do you allow pets? A: You bet! We ask that dogs not be puppies, don’t scratch at doors, and don’t bark incessantly while you’re away. The boats are close together & a non-stop barking dog isn’t appreciated. We DEEP clean the boats after pets stay aboard due to future guests’ possible allergies so a $75 pet fee is applied for those who travel with pets. If you have a service dog & try to circumvent the pet fee be prepared to present FULL documentation. Q: Can we hold events or parties? A: No. This is a place to relax. We ask that there be no events or parties on the boats so the other guests can enjoy their stay. Q: You charge extra for more than 2 adults, do my kids count? A: Any child over the age of 13 is considered an adult & needs to be represented in the booking inquiry as an additional guest. Q: Is the marina safe? A: VERY. We have 24/7 surveillance & in the 3 years we’ve been here we’ve never had any sort of issue. We share an entrance with the port authority which has a 24/7 guarded gate. You turn into the marina before the guarded gate but it scares off any would-be pests. The parking lot & dock is well lit & the marina is right off East Bay which is one of the main roads in Downtown Charleston. All boats lock from inside & you can padlock the door when you leave if you wish to lock up your belongings. The marina is only us & we’re here daily looking over the fleet. Q: Handicap accessible? A: No. You'll need to get on the boat which requires a 1-2' step and there are steps on the boat. The deck stairs are steep and you'll need to be sure footed. Q: Parking? A: Yes, you can park your car. Since it’s a small private marina the walk to the parking lot from the boat is only roughly (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) yards. Q: Can I trailer my small boat & side-tie it to the boat I rented? A: You can bring your boat but it must be arranged with the marina & there’s nowhere to park a trailer. There’s also nowhere close by to slip the boat so do your research on boat landings. The marina will charge you small fee (roughly $40 - $60 nightly) to wet-slip the boat. Q: Space & Comfort? A: You'll find the layout of the boat extremely spacious and comfortable. The bed is a Queen (ish) size. Queen with slight modifications to fit the space. The shower is tall and comfortable for anyone 6’4” & under. Q: I have a non-profit, will you donate a free stay to my gala? A: I’m sure your cause is worthy, but we get this request far too often so we must decline. Q: I’m a blogger / photographer / ninja trainer… will you barter? A: No. Please don’t ask. We don’t pay our slip rent with your blog posts. Q: Will you partner with my local company or buy my advertising? A: We get penalized through Airbnb if we don’t respond to all inquiries which means we must respond to your spam. You won’t like our message so don’t send it. Q: Will this be the best vacation I’ve ever had and should I book now? A: Without a doubt.
Extremely safe and private marina in downtown Charleston. The entrance to the marina is shared with the Port Authority which has a 24/7 guard. There is a train which blocks the road to the marina leading into the port authority but it only comes 1-2X per day. Sometimes it can block the roadway for up to 20 minutes but that is infrequent.
  • The boathouse made our trip to Charleston! Although we stayed during January with record-breaking cold weather, Justin and Shauna set us up with plenty of space heaters and when we needed them they responded immediately (even while being overseas). We had a very comfortable stay - we wish it was warmer (summers would be amazing staying here) because the resort amenities are amazing! Definitely will consider staying here again-it's the perfect location with beautiful views and the boat is impeccably decorated!! Thank you Shauna and Justin!

    Andrea2015-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time on this houseboat! It's well equipped and feels cozy, not cramped. We loved biking to town and being able to return to a scenic place on the water. Justin and Ashley are great!

    Carolyn2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Justin was right there when we arrived. The houseboat was a fun unique experience and a great location. Would stay there or any property with justin again.

    Zana2016-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very enjoyable place to stay, Justin was great

    Ralph2018-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • This houseboat was the perfect experience! It was very close to downtown and all the shops, restaurants, and historical sites. I was worried that waves or the boat rocking would bother me, but it turned out to me a non issue. Even with rainstorms there was minimal rocking because of the location of the boat. In fact, it rocked me to sleep. We were lucky going in mid November because there was only one other boat at the pier. This made for a very quiet, romantic stay. It was nice having the area all to ourselves after the crowds of downtown. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone and would do it again in a heartbeat myself! Loved it!!

    Sierra2015-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Looking for an adventure in the city? Stay on this houseboat. When the afternoon sun is scorching, you'll be chill on the boat, in your bikini, drink in hand, watching the marine life. I stayed 12 nights during Spoleto (early June) and loved it! I grew up in this area and my friends loved it too when they came to visit. Justin is a gem, and so is this secluded downtown Charleston dock location. The free parking and bikes are a huge bonus! Just keep in mind the mosquitos and no see ems are a bit of a pain. I chose to sleep with windows open so coated myself with deet overnight. YOU could always choose to use the AC with windows closed. But what's the fun in that?!

    Elizabeth2016-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had reservations for the boat the first week in June for 2 nights. The boat is a cute idea and is as described in the listing. However, the air conditioner that is in the boat was undersized for the space and even after keeping all of the windows closed for several hours while the air was running, it was still close to 80 degrees on the boat. Opening all of the windows provided a nice breeze, however, since most of the windows do not have screens, we couldn't keep the bugs out and were getting bitten. As a result, we wound up getting a last minute hotel room at the Marina hotel and a room in the city for the second night. We let the hosts know and that we checked out early, but haven't heard back.

    Natalia2018-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • As other guests have said - this is an amazing place! I will just start by saying it was so outstanding that we plan on returning the next time we visit The Big Island. How will you know if this place is right for you? First off, understand that although the bedroom is mainly enclosed, and the living area is partially enclosed, it is still essentially an open-air cottage. There is no air conditioning and you will not experience a sanitized hotel/condo experience. The kitchen is basically on the front porch. The bathroom is on the back porch, and has a bamboo wall for privacy. You will shower under a palm tree and the open sky, and if you are fortunate, as we were, the full moon. We saw a couple of spiders, and TONS of mosquitoes. Karen and Ron, your wonderful hosts, leave out insect repellent and citronella candles. Use them liberally. You are essentially in a jungle setting, with a few other houses nearby, with a two-minute walk to the beach - with the pros and cons of that. Pros - absolutely beautiful trees and plants, tons of birds to see and hear, fragrant flowers, the sounds of the surf, the sounds of frogs, crickets and other small creatures. There are geckos - lots of geckos! We LOVED this - they are on the bathrooms walls, the bedroom walls, and the kitchen counter. They are fast though, and if you are unobservant or particularly loud, you might not notice them. They are cute, friendly, considered good luck, and best of all - eat creepy, crawly things like spiders and mosquitoes. They make a loud clicking sounds sometimes. You will think it is a bird. It's not. Cooking outside is fun. Watching the birds while you eat or relax on the porch is a joy. The entire outdoor area, which is both amazingly landscaped and casually in constant remodel mode is relaxing. CONS - the mosquitoes. Despite frequent use of insect repellant, we were bitten often. After showering, in the bathroom in the middle of the night, in the middle of the day in the kitchen because who thinks of putting on bug spray at 2:00 in the afternoon? Maybe one of those repellent bracelets would be useful? Not sure. Just be prepared for this reality. You will constantly have on bug spray, sunscreen, or both. (The mosquito netting around the bedding is not for looks - use it! It works great!) If you don't like geckos, spiders, some leaves blowing into your living space and some dirt, this isn't the place for you. Also, be aware that a good breeze (or more) rattles the roof a bit, and seeds and leaves do fall on the roof or elsewhere around the hut regularly. We managed to tune it out most of the time, but an easily startled person might have trouble with it. Another con to the setting is that while you will visually have a ton of privacy,...

  • The Bali Cottage is an unforgettable place. Part tree house, part screened-in, part open-air, it's a space entirely connected to nature in a way that you can only experience in a place as lovely as Captain Cook, HI. The outdoor kitchen and shower were fantastic and the enclosed bedroom and sitting room spaces were calm and inviting. But, the truly show-stopping elements are the many intricately carved wood panels lining nearly every wall surface. Sunlight peeks through, the sounds of nature surround you, and it is pure magic. The other thing we must note about this place is the location. Just steps from the Kealakekua Bay with some of the best snorkeling on the island, this spot is to-die for. It doesn't get any better than this. Karen, our host, was warm and extremely helpful. She responded very quickly to every query and gave us some great suggestions about what to explore in the area. We can't wait to go back!

  • Our stay at the Bali Cottage was one of the highlights of our trip to the Big Island. I think it was even more interesting in person than the pictures showed. Karen is an exceptional host who went out of her way to make us comfortable and show us around the area. The cottage itself is *right* on the bay. You can see it when you park your car, and you can hear the waves from inside the cottage. There's private beach access a block away, where we enjoyed an early morning snorkel. As with most of this area, the beach access is very rocky, but with a small sort of sandy area, where kids could play in the water. There's also a nice grassy area with picnic tables and shade. Grab food on your way in - the cottage is at least 20 minutes from any restaurants or grocery stores. We went to the store and bought some food to cook in the outdoor kitchen (which is very well equipped!). We honestly really enjoyed cooking there, with the breeze from the ocean, and the waves lapping in the background. We highly recommend the cottage.

  • Staying at the Bali Cottage was one the best Airbnb experiences we've ever had. The location is just fantastic, literally a one-minute walk away from a little local gem of a beach with great snorkeling. The cottage itself is beautiful, I spent hours just looking at the details. And then of course Karen and Ron's hospitality was outstanding.

    Alessandro2018-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The photos on the listing say it all – it really is that beautiful, like a Balinese hideaway … but with more surfboards. We loved the eclectic décor, the indoor/outdoor living and the feeling of protective privacy. There are houses nearby but the environment that Ron and Karen have created made us feel like we were in our own garden oasis. Some of our favorite times were just preparing meals in the outdoor kitchen, or having our morning coffee on the wide front porch watching the birds and geckoes and listening to the sound of the waves. The bay is just a couple of minutes walk away and entry to the snorkeling area was protected and easy. The cottage has every amenity including snorkeling gear. Ron and Karen were delightful hosts – thoughtful, warm, helpful and accessible, yet never intrusive. Highly recommended!

  • Karen was a great host, making sure to reach out to me ahead of time to make sure we had directions and if we had any questions about the trip. The cottage was unlike any other experience I've had before. As many of the other reviews have stated, it's not for those who don't want a uniquely-Hawaiian experience. The cottage is very much like glamping (glorified camping). We had geckos everywhere, a gigantic spider that hung out with us, and mongoose that tried to break into our bedroom and fought during the evening. The cottage is a minute walk away from a beautiful little beach where you can see dolphins jumping if you're lucky. If any of these things make you uncomfortable, this is not the place for you. If any of these things make you smile and love the beauty that is Hawaii, this is the place of your dreams. We got to enjoy an earthquake during our stay, which caused the roofing to move and we sprung a leak in the cottage, but Karen was quick to reach out the next morning to check in and see how they could help remedy the situation. She and her husband were great and were already working on the roof repair and adding some reinforcements for the mongoose as we were heading out. I recommend this place for anyone who wants a travel experience like no other. :)

  • Karen's place is exotic and lovely and everything I had hope for when in Hawaii.

Romantic hideaway! This property has the lush beauty and privacy of Hana, without the drive! Only 15-20 minutes to the airport, 10 minutes to beaches, 2 minutes to restaurants and shops...on a private gated property with organic nursery. BEAUTIFUL!
This place is a gem! SO CUTE! A recently remodeled 1930's cottage....that Jimi Hendrix stayed in when he was on Maui in 1970 to film Rainbow Bridge. Beautiful, quiet...REAL Maui! Recently remodeled, very cute! It is lined with cedar on the inside so it smells delightful when you walk in.... The Gingerbread House is a studio cottage with a kitchenette (toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, counter-top burners, full sized fridge) and spacious bathroom with a large custom-built, tiled shower.. It has high cathedral ceilings with a huge window that looks out on beautiful lush greenery. It is on a gated property. There is wireless Internet in the cottage, but in the event it isn't working, there is wireless available to you in other locations on the property. We have gotten the internet FIXED since the reviews were written so it is WORKING IN THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE AGAIN! (as of 1/16/17) It has a queen sized bed, and an outdoor patio under the spectacular tree canopy. The property is on 4.5 acres of lush beauty with a seasonal stream, an organic veggie start farm, fruit trees galore (help yourself when in season....) papaya, banana, lilikoi (passion fruit), coffee, plantains, oranges, mac nuts, avocado, lychee, mango, guava, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons, coconuts, noni....and you also have access to an additional 4 acres on the adjacent property—which is home of The Sacred Garden—beautiful!. WE HAVE NOT INCLUDED the 14.41% Hawaii Transient Accommodations Tax because you would have to pay the airbnb fee on that so to save you their fee WE WILL SEND YOU A SEPARATE INVOICE as a resolution request through Airbnb for the additional fee. (They do not add extra fees to the resolution requests.) PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS STATE LAW THAT WE ADD THE TAX...Sorry! We have a 3 night minimum however we will book for 1-2 nights if the nights are available between other bookings so feel free to check with us. We have a 5 night minimum during Holiday periods like Christmas. We are in an awesome location just 20 minutes from the airport and Costco, and only 2 miles to Makawao town restaurants and shops, 7 minutes to Paia, 5 minutes to Haiku town. 50 Minutes to Haleakala National Park entrance. We also have a house on the property that is a vacation rental as well so if you need more space for a larger gathering let me know! I offer retreat services—relationship coaching, personal and spiritual growth, guided labyrinth walks and work with Maui's best practitioners so if you want more than a vacation, let me know! We can help you with everything from Massage, to intuitive readings! I also perform weddings so if you are thinking of getting married while you are on Maui....I can also help you with that! This rental is on the property adjacent to The Sacred Garden which has two walking labyrinths, water lily ponds, meditation gardens, and more ...and is free and open to the public daily. We have caterers available in needed. The elevation is about 1000 feet which is PERFECT on Maui! We are about 10 degrees cooler than sea level which makes for absolutely comfortable days (70-80 degrees) and GREAT temps for sleeping (usually in the 60's). This is the MAXIMUM elevation you can stay and still go scuba diving on Maui. Speaking of diving...we are avid divers and can assist you booking Scuba Diving with the best dive operation on Maui. You will definitely want a rental car....there is a bus stop a mile or two away but not ideal....and bikes are a little hazardous as these are hilly, windy, narrow roads. We have a HUGE friendly dog on the property... he is great...but be forewarned he is BIG! (180 pounds)...not a barker, super sweet. We also have 4 cats on the property but no animals are inside the cottage. There are wild chickens and roosters and cows on the property across the stream. Please keep in mind that this is a jungle environment and it is nearly impossible to keep all insects out of any accommodation in Hawaii unless we poison the place. If you are phobic of insects, the jungle will not be your best bet. Gecko lizards are also common inside the houses here.
This area is a magical well kept secret on Maui. We are located at the dividing line between the wet side and the dry side, which means we get enough rain to stay green, and enough sun to stay sane! We get rainbows almost daily and are the perfect temperature (60's at night, 70's-80's in the day).
  • 房屋在离机场不远的一座山上,周边有美丽的花园。房间很漂亮,唯一额缺点是山上下雨较多,环境比较潮湿。

  • It was such a wonderful stay in the gingerbread house! Everything was like it is described. Mahalo Eve!

    Kathrin2018-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I spent our honeymoon here. We truly loved it! Eve was helpful on finding the place (some construction going on caused some confusion). Eve also provided a binder that gave great local suggestions for all sorts of different things (I.e. food, beaches, hikes). The cottage was a cozy little place perfect for two people, and only 10-15 min from the beach and town. My wife and I also loved the chickens! They were super friendly and fun to watch and listen to. W head a great time and would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

    Zak2018-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Gingerbread Cottage. Nestled on Eve's beautiful property, the cottage is among fruit trees and next to a nice garden center. We enjoyed the roosters and the big friendly dog, as well as fresh papaya from the garden. Wonderful place!

    Sean2017-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the Garden Gingerbread house. It was peaceful, great location and had everything I needed. Thanks Eve.

    JEFF2014-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We knew we did not want to stay at a resort for our first trip to Maui so when we found the Adorable Garden Gingerbread House we fell for it right away (the nod to Jimmy Hendrix didn't hurt, either). We wanted a relaxed environment, a chance to meet locals, and see the island. So as we made our way from the big city airport, up roads that became more rural, with vegetation growing right up to the edge of the road, we knew we'd made the right decision. And then you see the cottage; it is every bit adorable as you see in the photos. The fainting couch is the best seat to view the monkey pod tree from the very large window. We ate most meals out but we made coffee and had cereal at the cottage. There are two grocery stores in Makawao and Haiku, two very close towns. You must walk the grounds to appreciate life in a rain forest: bananas, pomegranates, coffee beans, and I think other fruits are growing within 50' of the cottage door. The trickling stream came alive one night from a tropical storm that flooded parts of the beach areas but at 1000', didn't bother us; we were still acclimating to the time change so it just made for good sleeping. We were very grateful for Steve's two minute Hawaiian language course. Between the land and the language, you really know you're someplace else. We had a car so getting around the island from Makawao was really easy. It's all true about the tropical climate (that things don't dry well) so get yourself some breathable tropical clothing. People there mostly wear bathing suits/coverups anyway. It's also true that the chickens are wild and everywhere on the island (except the volcano). They're just like squirrels where we come from except some of them crow and not just at sunrise. But we loved our chicken family and I swear we saw the three baby chicks grow in the week we were there. They're not afraid of humans and were like a welcoming committee. Maui, Makawao, this cottage - it was all perfect for us. My favorite bumper sticker said, "Slow down. It's not the mainland". Maui's really laid back so come to this cottage and relax. Mahalo, Eve & Steve!

  • Staying at the Gingerbread Cabin was an absolute dream. My wife and I booked the week about 6 months in advance and were treated so well from day 1. Eve and Steve were wonderful hosts. Eve extended every courtesy from the week before our arrival to our final departure. The cabin was fully stocked with everything two honeymooners could want and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking light meals throughout the week. The back patio was perfect for reading and eating breakfast in the lush garden environment. There is even a small stream running through the back of the spacious property. The entire place is set up for serenity and privacy. For those of you who care about such things, the shower was AMAZING and easily fits 2 people. Everything about the stay was serene, romantic, and deeply peaceful. My wife and I wanted to explore Maui a bit and Eve was very prepared to recommend restaurants, excursions, massages (she has a massage therapist on location), and she even set up a snorkling tour of Molokini for us. We loved every minute of our stay. During the snorkling trip I met her husband Steve, the captain of the boat. He is a master of scuba diving and provides dive tours around the island as well. He was very nice and easy to talk to. All in all, my wife and I couldn't have been happier. If you are a party of two without children, this is the place for you.

    Daniel2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Eve's Gingerbread House really is adorable and the grounds around it is so beautiful. There's even a stream running close by which you can hear from inside the house. The place looks even better than the photos. Wifi and cellular reception can be spotty, but what a great location to explore this part of Maui! Makawao and Paia is a five to fifteen minute drive away with restaurants and hiking trails close by. I highly recommend staying here. The place is charming, comfy, and cozy!

  • This place seriously was a mini oasis in Denver. Walking distance to coffee and food. The house itself was awesome and so much custome design and gave us ideas to our own studio. Mick was super helpful in getting to the house and reaching out the day before to make sure things went smoothly. Highly recrecommended place to stay,a gem for sure

    Meagan2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous! From start to finish our stay at the Carriage House was just perfect... the property is beautiful, the furnishing very comfortable, the location was great with easy access to public transportation & our hosts made us feel at home! Looking forward to visiting again.

    Allison2015-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Patrick are fantastic, generous hosts. The carriage house is perfect for a couple and is very close to the bus/light rail station and two B-cycle docking stations. The neighborhood is residential with only a few restaurant/shops within a 5 block radius but Denver is so walkable and safe, we felt that we had access to everything. Can't wait to come back next summer!

This a rural desert location. The Tile House is a magical place. A vortex in the desert of love and space. This is the place to retreat and unwind, find yourself, breathe and explore. Not available or appropriate for parties or large gatherings. A spot to meditate, cook, and watch the sky, the clouds and stars at night. A healing, colorful environment for rejuvenating your spirit and soul.
A two bedroom house with outdoor hot tub and gorgeous views, and gated courtyard with firepit. Queen-sized beds, picture windows, cotton linens, and towels. Fabulous and reliable WiFi. iPod dock with speakers. Full Kitchen, refrigerator, coffee maker, mixing bowls, wood-burning stove, swamp cooler. Laundry facility on site. Fireplace and pellet stove. Dog-door for your pet to access a fenced and secure yard. Great for large get togethers or a romantic getaway. Sleeps 4 comfortably but also has a sofa sleeper for a kid. Cradled inside and outside by a mosaic made of Mexican tile, smalti, handmade Perry Hoffman ceramics, tile and fused glass, found desert tiles, found objects, stained glass and ceramic bric-brac, THERE you find yourself situated in complete silence, watching the desert light crawl across the fast and intricate landscape which is ALL around you. 7 miles from the town of 29 Palms and the east entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. 360 degree views amid the peace and quiet, beauty and wonder, where indoor and outdoor osmosis expands your exposure to the desert. Touches of luxury, whimsy, and function make the visitor feel safe but also adventurous. Perry has been working on his roadside attraction / museum / gallery / magic spot / mosaic house since it began in 2000. 11 years later, 800 sqft were added, and approximately 2500 sqft of mosaic applied and grouted. Glass fused baubles, hand made ceramics and a magical desert. This desert homestead turned beacon of love vision is waiting to reach the stars. The Tile House sits in the middle of the vast and open desert. You need not walk two feet to be a part of the wilderness, now it is up to you to look around both macro and micro and see what you can see here. Jack rabbits, cottontails, ravens, scorpions, desert iguana, snakes, Gambel's quail, lesser night hawks, owls, coyotes, roadrunners, sphinx moths, and kangaroo rats, flash floods, dust devils, lightning storms, sunsets, summer rains, empty roads, wildflowers, and cacti are some of the things you might happen to see. Walk gently in nature. At night, absorb the clear starry skids, and August and November meteor showers. Remember, there are rusty bits and broken tiles in the sand. This is a work in progress. Be careful and don't walk about barefoot. You have been warned. Not recommended for children, unless prior arrangements and agreements are made. You are ironically completely alone in the middle of nowhere and the center of the universe.
  • As before, the Tile House exceeded all expectations. We found amazing things to do- the Mojave preserve, the Integretron, Joshua Tree coffee roaster- and we spent hours at the house, staring at the walls and laying in the sun. Cozy, in the middle of nowhere. We will return. Perry is an outstanding host, very thoughtful, helpful and invested in his guests' enjoyment.

    Anne2015-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time at the Tile House, and it was just as magical as the first time! This time I also brought my dog and I'm so glad I did-- he loved it! Very very dog friendly. I can't say enough good things about this house; every room is uniquely beautiful, the views from the living room are incredible, there are fun things to look at everywhere you turn. I wish I could live there! This will always be where I stay when I come to the desert. Thank you Perry for being such a creative and kind individual. We all felt the love that has gone into the Tile House! I also love that there's no television, you don't need it at all there :)

    Rachel2015-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • After a 2 day camping/yoga trip I was very happy to arrive to Perry's personal paradise! The house is even more beautiful and breathtaking in person. The description is accurate and all the amenities are perfect! Tons of beautiful art pieces everywhere and a great book collection. My bedroom was very comfortable. This was the best birthday gift I could have given myself! I felt completely at home. So much silence and beauty everywhere. Thank you again!!!

    Delmy2015-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Tile House could not have been more perfect for what we were looking for: quiet, scenic, close to Joshua Tree, and unique. But not unique in the usual "I'm trying to be unique" way that rental properties can sometimes be. The space is effortlessly special, living and breathing with you. There's love in it, like it knows you just gently need a bit of TLC. There are stories in every square inch you look, and you could spend the whole time just walking around observing, wondering why this is here, and that is there. We will surely be back, and are excited to see what the home will look like then. Perry was a wonderful host, responding quickly to my questions, gracefully allowing a little flexibility with timing. Really, was a perfect escape.

    Tyler2016-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Tile House is like living inside a work of art. The quirky and beautiful interior is a continual delight—every time you sit down in a different place, you notice something new to make you smile. There's lots of room, it's equipped with more than everything you need and a soak in the hot tub under the stars is heaven. Completely unique.

    Mary2016-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place. Must see to believe. The private hot tub under the stars wss peobably our favorite. Close to Joshua Tree Park. Bed was very comfy, kitchen had everything. Very peaceful.

    Leslie2018-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great house. Could not get enough. Next time we will stay longer.

    Martin2015-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • WOW.. if your looking for an inspiring - deep desert oasis well then go no further! What a wonderful piece of artwork.. The love that clearly has gone into this fabulous creation is apparent at every turn. We spent the first hour just adoring all the details.. We made a big fire - danced around like kids and basically spent the evening pondering the universe.. You are removed from reality here.. walk out the back and into the desert night at some point.. it's truly liberating.. This is a funky - fun place .. You have everything you need to glamp it up here.. You'll be back if you go .. and you'll for sure tell all your friends to take a trip! We also rented a very high power telescope from Coyote Telescopes.. They brought it out .. set it up .. and we got to actually see the Universe.. HA.. The scope is digitally programmed so you simply scroll to the name of the planet or star cluster and it changes its position.. The whole family had blast!

  • What can I say that won't sound like hyperbole? Whitt was an amazing host. The Yurt is just as amazing as the pictures make it out to be, the location was terrific for a vacation, and the view was astounding! I will be coming back to this place for vacation in the future, it's the best B&B I have ever stayed at.

    Far2012-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay in the Yurt. The first time we came in the winter, and now this time - July 4th weekend. Each time was wonderful, but I must admit that the summer was a great experience. The farm was so full and lush with greens, the pool was open and refreshing, the days were long and full and the weather was perfect for being outside. The Yurt was warm during the day forcing you to put your hiking boots back on or go for another swim, which made the 3 day vacation seem like a week. Whitt and Martha are amazing hosts and the food was perfect - this time we ordered a special meal on Sat night which was fantastic. I highly recommend having at least one evening meal prepared by Whitt. We already have made our reservation for the fall - as we look to experience the farm and the woods in a different season. This is truly a special place and one we are so glad we found!

    Jennifer2014-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in the yurt was amazing. It was exactly the romantic getaway we hoped it would be. The pool was fantastic, and the nature trail was a great little walk around the property. We ordered a dinner basket as well, which was packed with fresh goodies from the farm! We will definitely be back for another stay.

    Dawn2015-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I had such a wonderful time at the Yurt--we can't WAIT to go back again. Whitt was there when we arrived (his directions were perfect and we didn't get lost a bit) to show us around the yurt and we got straight to relaxing. We toured the farm a bit and walked around the property--it was a gorgeous weekend and we had a perfectly relaxing time. Everything we needed was there already--just arrived with clothes and our groceries to cook dinner for ourselves. Breakfast was fantastic as well, so I imagine taking advantage of dinners cooked at the farm would also be stellar. All of us highly highly highly recommend a getaway to the mountains at the Yurt!

  • This was my second stay at the yurt, first time with a friend and this time with my two daughters. It's such a creative, welcoming, cozy space and it was great to have the hot tub available each evening after hiking. I really enjoyed the "Woods Walk", a 2 mile trail circumnavigating the farm. We enjoyed conversation with Whit and Martha (and their daughter and grandchild) at the close of our stay and love our farm-made purchases. We will surely be back to stay at the yurt or one of the other farm accommodations!

    Tammie2019-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt is amazing, the food was great, and Whitt and his family were very friendly.

    Jerry2014-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the yurt! The place was spotless & gorgeous, such a great location (10 mins from the park max) and there were even freshly baked cookies waiting for us! Would love to stay there again. Thanks!

    Natasha2016-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • You are in a Yurt. It has been scientifically proven (by scientists with glasses and lab coats) that nothing can possibly go wrong in a yurt. Also there are goats. And turkeys. And chickens with eggs of which you can buy a dozen for 3$. The yurt was huge. The two of us, coming from big cities with tiny apartments (and zero goats), felt like kids in a mansion. The area is beautiful, the park is close, and there is a baby lamb that jumps around on four legs sometimes. The kitchen is high-end and well stocked. The bathroom is spacious. The hosts were incredibly kind and good at cooking breakfast. We never felt like tourists, and they seemed genuinely excited/unannoyed about sharing their farm with two city rats. Did i mention there are goats?

  • This cabin is the perfect getaway! It is super cozy and Alan and Maureen are so helpful and have great tips about what to do in the area. Although we got caught in a snowstorm, it just made our trip even more memorable! Can't wait to be back soon and explore more of Maine!

  • Allen was a wonderful host! He communicated well as we were traveling and he welcomed us when we arrived. His property was beautiful and quiet and the house we stayed in was modest but completely comfortable. We even enjoyed a wonderful performance by a singer song writer at the performance space on his property!

    Laurie2016-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Alan is unique. Not only will you feel incredibly relaxed but the environment in which he lives has all you'd expect to find when day dreaming about Maine: Delightful landscaping, A room with a view and the peace and tranquility that one only reads in the 19th century novels. Alan has become our friend and I am proud to say he is by far one of the best experiences we have had on Airbnb!

    Pierre Henri2013-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We were lucky to stay in this beautiful place and to know Alan. The cabin is very well situatated 30-40 min from the entrance of the Acadia nayional park. It's located in Surry in a magic environement. The place is warm and very clean. It has all the comforts and even more (a full beautifull working piano). The bed is really comfy and it was easy for us as a family to find our space. But the best part of our stay was to get to know Alan who's a wonderfull person. It was really interesting to get to know all the history of the place, to discover the buddhist place, to hear him playing the piano with our little 2ys old child and once we have had dinner together. He had as well very good tips to discover the local activities: the bakery is really good by the way and the hike on the blue hill mountain was really nice. We strongly advise this place, it was one of the best airbnb experience and we hope we'll come back once to spend more time!

    Marco2014-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Alan's musical cottage was amazing! We had a brilliant stay and he was a great host, showing us around the property and providing lots of recommendations for things to do and places to see. It's nicely located for Acadia National Park, and Bar Harbor was less than an hour's drive. And the Blue Hills Peninsula, which is where the cottage is located, is also very pretty too. One of the absolute highlights of our 5 week trip up the east coast was catching the sunset and the moonrise at Alan's place. If you're lucky enough to be here on a clear night, the sky looks absolutely incredible, with thousands of stars visible. We sat outside for an hour on his deck and caught a couple of shooting stars and a beautiful full moon. Thanks for hosting us, Alan!

    Jon2015-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Alan's cottage is an excellent opportunity to get away for the hustle and bustle, and spend quiet contemplation in a minimalist environment. The grounds have a wonderful history, and Alan is generous with his time and knowledge to share and tour together. The space is clean and private, and within a close proximity to a host of outdoor pursuits.

    Christopher2014-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Alan was there to welcome us when we arrived. He immediately showed us through the cottage and surrounding area. Equipped with a cozy sleeping loft, hot plate, and sunny living room, the cottage fit all our needs for a weekend getaway. It even kept us warm during a bitter cold spell. Surry is very close to Mount Desert Island, and we were able to make a great day trip to Acadia during our time.

    Calla2016-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • We loved, loved, loved staying in the rustic chalet, Alan's former music therapy studio. The house was comfortable and well equipped, and was the perfect base camp for exploring the area, including daily trips to Acadia park. The drive to the park was easy and interesting. Alan was a great host and his assistant Maureen was equally awesome. We were lucky enough to attend a great jazz concert on the property (!) in the barn right next door (Surry Arts in the Barn). We also loved visiting the authentic Japanese zendo (Morgan Bay Zendo) on the adjacent property. Fabulous trip!!

We ask that if dogs are left unattended that they be crated and that they remain on leash when wandering the property if they might be inclined to chase a child, cat, or chicken or wander off. Thanks for understanding! Single night bookings: We have a two night minimum, but when there is a single night gap in the schedule we are happy to accept a single night booking for an additional $25. Just shoot us a message with your date and we'll go from there.
Wimberley is a lovely little town full of unique shops, swimming holes, and friendly folks. We think you'll love your visit here!
  • What a lovely time! We were welcomed by a clean space, a warming hot tub, and fresh coffee & eggs! My partner and I enjoyed dips in the hot tub, light hikes around the property & creek, lounging in the hammock, evenings by the fire, and mornings welcomed by the grazing of gentle deer just yards from the deck. This space was exactly what we were looking for... A sweet departure from our day-to-day and a renewal to our sense of relaxation!

    Sean2015-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time! Everything was great, but there were quite a bit of fure ants, and a few git inside the airstream. Other than that it was great!

    Sarah2015-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space and great proximity to Wimberley downtown. Perfect weekend getaway from Austin.

    Mary2017-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying in this cute retro airstream! Cute, quaint, quiet, relaxing, fully enjoyable! You won’t be disappointed! Well worth the trip for a fun weekend getaway! Thank you Jennifer and Gregory for everything!

    Laurie2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for such a lovely little property. It was just what we needed for a quick but close getaway for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a great time enjoying the fire pit, hot tub and even the outdoor shower. The weather was perfect for a stay inside, chill and play cards day. We took a quick hike the morning we left and the creek running though the property was a great treat. Can’t wait to come back again soon.

    Kimberlee2018-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer and Gregory's airstream was the perfect way to kick off our honeymoon!

    Brooke2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best experience my husband and I have ever had on a spring break adventure. The airstream is comfortable in every way, and the hot tub, deck, fire pit, and hammock in this beautiful setting made for a wonderful time. If you want to simply relax or you want to use this as a base to explore the area, book this as soon as you can because, for obvious reasons, it's extremely popular!

We are a real treehouse at the summit of Kilauea. We are less than five minutes from the main gates to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The park is open once again, and visitors are in awe of the changes wrought by the recent eruption. This is a wonderful time to plan a visit to a place not heavily touristed and central to adventures to be had on this part of the island. #weaccept
This is a custom designed treehouse, built by the same crew you see in Treehouse Masters on TV. The Jurassic attitude of the rainforest is preserved on the grounds. We also have a wedding venue nearby you may view in the photos. Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park borders the end of the street but can be accessed only through the main gate about two miles away. *** September 2108 notes: The park is open again! There is no surface lava at this time. Our air quality is now some of the best anywhere. There are scant emissions from the volcano. Steam comes out of the ground, signs of the hot magma below. There is currently no eruption. There are no signs an eruption is coming, or restarting. Volcanoes are unpredictable but they do give signs before going into action. Those signs typically are increased seismicity over a period of weeks and months, and sometimes years. No signs currently. The changes in the park due to the last eruption cannot be shown other than in imax format- they are that enormous. This is an excellent time to visit. Notes regarding cancellation and changes: please read the policy as published. Airbnb writes the policies and all of us must adhere to them. If you are feeling a need to cancel, you may wish to reconsider and change dates instead or discuss all options with us directly before deleting your reservation. Mahinui Na Lani hangs in ohia trees growing over a lava tube in the rainforest that extends into Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The treehouse was conceived as a companion to our rainforest pavilion, a Bali style structure a couple of blocks away, intended as an intimate wedding venue. Both may be reserved, and there are a couple of photos of the pavilion included in this series. The treehouse is accessed via a path that is about 100 meandering feet in the forest, lava boulders set into the side of the lava tube, and ladders. The ascent is somewhat steep once you reach the lava rocks. For your safety and comfort, we provide day packs to transfer whatever clothing is needed for your stay from your luggage into the abode. There is a special recessed corner dedicated to your stuff, with hooks for clothes, and a couple of night stands with drawers that can hold less bulky items. It's Hawaii, and the climate is mild, the atmosphere everywhere very casual. We also provide bathrobes. The treehouse itself is built on two levels, connected via a ship's ladder. The main level includes the living room, with two chairs and an ottoman, flat screen for viewing films & playing CDs, built in indoor window table & stools, small kitchen, outdoor shower, and composting toilet & vanity. The indoor fireplace is a Jotul propane stove vented to the outside. Outdoors on the lanai there is a cedar hot tub, and a teak table and chairs for al fresco dining in the trees. The upper level is also upper canopy, with birds actually flying around beneath you sometimes. There is a queen sized bed with a memory foam mattress, the tiny "closet corner" and another lanai. The windows other than the french doors onto the lanai are stained glass, made by a local artist. The kitchen functions best as a place to store leftovers after you go out to eat, with the microwave available to reheat them. There are plates and utensils so you can bring in take out and enjoy your meal either indoors or outdoors in solitude. The house was built primarily of recycled materials. The fir floors and redwood and cedar siding were once a church. This particular area is adjacent to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where Kilauea has been active for decades. There are hiking trails in and around the park through rainforest, desert, volcanic devastation, even a path with footprints preserved from an eruption over a hundred years ago. There are petroglyphs. Less than a mile from the treehouse there is Volcano Village, with restaurants and art galleries, a couple of places to buy gas. The entrance park itself is about two miles away. The neighborhood is rainforest, with many unbuilt upon lots. The reason there is no view of the treehouse through the forest is because the rainforest is very dense. There is the floor, very jungly with ginger, native ferns, and trees. Mid canopy are the tree ferns, some twenty feet tall, and over a hundred years old. The upper canopy is a mixture of ohia trees with red lehua flowers, Hawaiian holly, and others. We are asked from time to time if more than two people can stay in the treehouse. We can especially understand that families would like to bring their children to share this experience. The treehouse is a two person space. Everything is designed to be a honeymoon experience. While it is possible for more than two people to sit together and chat, only two can sleep over. There is no rollaway bed, nor is there room for one or for any other furniture beyond what is there already. Hall of Fame: The treehouse has been featured in Extreme Cribs, on episode 13. The Ellen Show: Kim Douglas's Tropical Vacation Ke Ola Magazine Volcano Tree House story in July - August 2011 edition Trip Advisor: One of the Ten Most Romantic Places to Stay (global selections) PureWow feature Treehouses of the World, Travel Channel European segment, by Treehouse Masters series Buzzfeed blogs and news articles published globally You will have access to the entire property, including the small structure below the treehouse near where you park your car. You may safely lock your luggage inside that room and use the day packs inside during your stay. If you use a CPAP machine, please contact us prior to making a reservation. There is only one treehouse on the property. We live nearby and come by regularly to maintain the treehouse. It is likely we will meet you on arrival. Otherwise, we are available by cell phone, text, email. When we are away, someone else who lives locally will be available to greet you and take care of your needs. The treehouse requires daily attention because it is off grid. This is generally done between 11 am and 4 pm, and most guests are away for that portion of the day. We do ask that if you are staying all day at the treehouse, that you communicate with us to let us know when one of us can come up and take care of the place. The neighborhood is mostly old growth rainforest with a few houses here and there. When you drive up, you will notice there are neighbors across the street and next door. You will forget about them once you walk through the moongate and enter the world of the treehouse. Sometimes of a late afternoon and evening you may hear a local hula halau practicing. We hope you find the sounds of laughter and Hawaiian language and music adds to the ambience. A rental car is a necessity. While there is public transportation, it is a long slow trip up the mountain. Uber and Lyft are available here, but the distances are such that renting a car tends to be more efficient. The park is a couple of miles down the road, and so large you will want to drive and not attempt to walk. Volcano Village is about a mile up the road. You might like to stroll up and back. If walking into the village for dinner, a flashlight for your return is an absolute must. We provide - please take it with you! If you are planning a first trip to our island, we suggest that you stay 2 or 3 nights at the treehouse. Please contact us for for discussion before you reserve if you wish. The island is truly big, and most people would rather spend the night on the west side of the island rather than return to Volcano after a day of play over there. Although we show rates for long term stays, we would like to discuss plans with you before completion of a stay of 5 days or longer. When you decide you want to stay at the treehouse, you are coming to a place unlike any other. There are other treehouses, but each is unique. This treehouse is off grid. This means it requires hands on service, every day. For most people, this is a seamless thing that happens while they are off adventuring. Every once in awhile, people come and do not want to leave, at all. We understand, but we do want to let you know that we must enter the treehouse on a daily basis to service the composting toilet. The hot tub also requires attention. The treehouse is in the forest. It is inside the trees, and this means easy critter access. To keep them outside, we carry your rubbish away and make sure your food is stored adequately. It is not a good idea to leave unwashed dishes, pots and pans, for these same reasons. This is the tropics. There are insects. They are not as prolific here as at lower elevations, but they do exist, and will visit you especially at dusk with lights on. Spiders are residents of the forest. They are food for the birds. If you love the birds, please tolerate their food supply. We empty the house of spiders daily but we do not poison. The spiders come back at will. They are small, and stay in the corners. They leave evidence of their visit in the form of webs. We do our best to be inhospitable to them, but they persist. When there is weather, like hard rains and winds, from your perch in the trees you will experience the sound and feel in ways you may have not before. The house is tight - the weather does not enter if the doors and windows are closed. But the sounds can be formidable. You will feel close to nature. Because of the size of the treehouse and the fact that it is off grid, it is not possible to offer a regular kitchen. The storage space is inadequate for more than a couple of days worth of food supplies.
The neighborhood is part undeveloped rainforest and part lots with houses. There are no tract homes - every house is individually designed and built. There are no street lights so at night it is very dark. The forest tends to obscure moonlight. There is a hula halau that practices nearby some afternoons, and you can hear their Hawaiian music and chants late in the day.
  • Great place to stay! Very clean and definitely a fun alternative to a typical vacation. If you're interested to go to Volcano National park this is an excellent place to stay for two nights while you are there.

    Richard2014-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the treehouse. Being suspended among tropical trees and flowers and enjoying the hot tub has to be one of the best memories of our trip to Hawaii. The design features of the treehouse are amazing- something new and innovative jumps out at every glance. The outdoor shower is probably the best shower in the state of Hawaii, if not the entire country. The rainforest is magical, serene, and remarkably bug free!

    Nathaniel2014-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • this house is amazing. it's a beautiful tiny house in the trees. the hot tub on the deck and the outside shower were our favorite parts.

  • Very unique place, once in a lifetime experience! Close to the national park and cute local shops and restaurants.

    Jordan2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the treehouse. The setting is lush and gorgeous, and the treehouse is artful and completely unique. Thoughtful touches like a stocked kitchen for breakfast, Hawaiian music, and plush robes made this rustic experience feel luxurious. And the outdoor shower & hot tub combo magical.

  • Communication facile avec Gail. Location sortant de l'ordinaire

    Véronique2015-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the tree house for four days in December 2015. It was wonderful. The pictures are representative but cannot communicate how special this location actually is. The host was immediately responsive to all communications. She met us at the house on arrival and came by while we were out to tidy up and refill the coffee and fruit we consumed, etc. Highly recommended. If/when we go back to the Big Island, we will try to stay here again.

    Peter2015-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the treehouse in Volcano! Everything was exactly as described. Gail and Robert were very nice and extremely quick in replying to questions etc. We had a few rainy days when we stayed in the Park - and the treehouse was just perfect for this weather. The location is also very close to the Park Entrance which is great. We'd come back anytime.

  • El departamento es muy completo y luminoso. Si bien el barrio está un poco alejado, tiene excelente comunicación por transporte público. Tuvimos todo lo que los anfitriones ofrecen. Pasamos unos días espléndidos en San Francisco

  • I traveled to San Francisco for my son's wedding. It was so wonderful to walk into a beautiful studio with anything I could possibly need. The host greeted us warmly and told us to call if we needed anything.. I would definitely stay there again.

  • We really liked the Studio. We stayed 3 nights. It was large, very clean and equipped with everything we needed. Good eating nearby at Piqueos. Mike and Nic`s were`nt in SF, but communication was easy and fast answered. We highly recommend them. Thomas

    Khalid2014-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • My family had a wonderful stay! Mike and Nic were so accommodating, helpful and communicative. The place was clean and cozy and in a perfect location. Thank you so much, my family plans to come back in the future!

  • Really enjoyed our week-long stay in Mike and Nic's lovely studio apartment, situated in a quiet, safe, residential area of SF with stunning views over the city virtually on the doorstep. Within very easy walking distance are cafés, restaurants, a well-stocked supermarket with organic produce and a choice of Muni bus routes, linking with the BART and also heading Downtown. No need for taxis and ubers, get a Muni pass to ride public transport (including the famous cable cars) and you will witness so much more of the real SF and all its different communities... The studio itself is exactly as described - warm, cosy, but spacious, spotlessly clean and well-equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable stay and lots of thoughtful and personal little extras from the hosts which make you feel really welcome and 'at home'. The furnishings are beautiful, quite individual, and clearly have been chosen with thought and care to reflect the interesting history of the building. Mike and Nic are super hosts: quick to reply to communications, informative, flexible about arrangements, friendly but very respectful of their guests' privacy. We really felt they went the extra mile to make sure our stay was a very pleasant one and we wholeheartedly recommend their cosy studio as an ideal base for exploring the fascinating city of SF - we can't wait to come back!

One bedroom sanctuary with a beautiful garden view and cozy fireplace. Comes with it's own entrance just steps from bus lines, train and all that Haight Street has to offer. Complete privacy with a separate bedroom, bathroom, and breakfast bar.
If you want to be within walking distance to Golden Gate Park, Haight St, Buena Vista Park, and Cole Valley, this is the spot. Full size bed in the bedroom with 400 thread count sheets and a pull-out twin in the living room. Just installed fireplace and large screen tv makes hanging out fun in the comfortable living room. Bathroom has a shower within the tub and white fluffy towels.
You will hear from many that this is the best neighborhood in SF. I chose this area for the many Victorian homes, the ease of mass transit, the walkability, and the abundance of parks, restaurants, and nightlife nearby. As a recent transplant to this area I can tell you that the stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and pubs are great here. I forget I have a car most of the time! Street parking is easy except for Wednesday 8-10 due to street cleaning.
  • El apartamento de Sara está bien decorado, limpio y es tal y como lo muestra en las fotos. Es una buena anfitriona que mantiene contacto por si tienes alguna duda. Sin duda lo recomiendo

    Amelia2017-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great location with lots of great cafes and restaurants. Easy public transport options for downtown and other landmarks. Perfect for exercises with the Golden Gate park less than a mile away. Super friendly host, willing to help with anything. Loved our stay.

  • We had a fabulous time staying with Sara and her dog Boo in San Francisco. Sara was always extreme prompt when I made contact ensuring that communication was very easy. She greeted us on the first day and provided us with local knowledge. The house was exactly what I wanted from ours an Francisco experience and I don't think it would've been the same had we stayed downtown. Haight street is very eclectic and has So much personality. We were a little wary at first but had no trouble and the festival that happened to be on the Su say we were there was a great experience. Not to mention the golden state warriors being in the NBA finals!!! With my husband and I being nearly 6 foot tall a double bed was slightly squishy but for a few nights it didn't matter. I am so glad we stayed with Sara and Boo...We had a fantastic experience because of it!!!

    Amanda Jayne2015-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the Haight at Sara's place is the perfect setting to experience San Francisco. Access was easy and working with Sara to coordinate our arrival time was a breeze. The place was spacious, open and very comfortable - the photos are good representations of this. The electric fireplace, cupboard of classic board games and outdoor sanctuary were unique features that made our stay memorable. We went to SF to road bike, and Sara helped us with recommended routes and a cycling map - well above and beyond our expectations. We hope to visit Sara and her great dog Boo on our next trip up!

    Heidi2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic experience. Sara and Boo (her dog) were very welcoming. The place was exactly as described and very cozy. We definitely recommend if you need a place to stay in San Fransisco. Very easy to get anywhere and the parking in the street is free, which is a real bonus.

    Laure2016-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, daughter (5 months) and I spent one week in Sara's lovely flat. We definitely enjoyed her hospitality and the accommodation itself. The location is perfect, close to downtown SF but still peaceful and quiet. We'll be back!

    Jan2015-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay if you want to be close to Haight Ashbury and Golden Gate Park. Nice space, we had our son on the sofa bed and room was still ample. Nice touches - coffee, tea, milk etc - even beer! Private entrance is very secure and makes coming and going very easy. Restaurants and shops including a good supermarket only 2 mins walk away on Haight. Enjoy!!

    Richard2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Hidden off the street and quiet with easy walking access to stores and restaurants. Sarah was a great hostess. I would definitely recommend and would use it again if it were available. So much better than a hotel!

  • Incredible and breathtaking views. Fun and incredible drive to and from the place. Would book again.

    Brandon2018-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful loving space! The drive up is amazing and the views are outstanding. The space is lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit.

    Katie2018-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place with amazing sweeping views of the Pacific - there's really nothing like waking up to this beauty. Ling & David were excellent at communicating check-in instructions far in advance and the drive up was really easy. Place is actually quite close to most of the amenities and restaurants close by. We had a lovely time hiking in the national forests and walking around the beaches. Things to note - this is outdoors / indoors living as in do not leave anything (food, sweets, etc out) or the bugs (in our case ants) will go after them. I had a honey face mask (sealed) out in the bathroom and they were all over it in just a day's time and later that evening there were a stream of ants going from one wall to the other (kitchen to bedroom - not related to food being out I think they were just travelling from Point A to B). Ling was very responsive in pointing out the bug spray under the kitchen sink gets rid of them but we were surprised to find these visitors nonetheless so be mindful and keep your stuff sealed (maybe put it all in the fridge). We had a lovely time and look back on Malibu fondly - highly recommend.

    Jean2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • This canyon bungalow with ocean view will stun you. David and Ling were easy and delightful to communicate with. We loved awaking to the sunrise, enjoying peaceful breakfasts on the patio under the bugambilia flowers, reading and journaling by the fountain, watching the hummingbirds buzz by, and finding a sancutary for rest. I love to cook fresh meals, and found the kitchen to be well eqipped. The bed was comfortable. The shower had excellent water pressure. The extra towels and linens were useful. There were two beach chairs and a beach umbrella that came in handy for our trips to nearby Point Dume beach. There was even a yoga mat for my morning practice overlooking the terraine. The following are some notes that by no means should these discourage a visit, but are good to know. When the unit above is booked, you can hear most everything. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs just in case. Second, if you are on the shorter side (I am), or have physical limitations (I do), know that you'll have to stand on a chair to get kitchen items off of high shelves or to use the microwave, as the kitchen is made for a tall person. We did not want to leave this retreat! We will be back. Thank you, David and Ling! You own a piece of paradise.

The Urban Farmhouse circa 1886 - meticulously converted in 2013. Situated adjacent to community garden. The updates afford you all the modern convenience you could ask for and charm you can only get from a building built in 1886. A true Charmer.
Privately tucked next door to a community garden in Denver's oldest neighborhood. 1/2 block to light-rail and near to B-Cycle (public bikes). Walking distance to local craft breweries and restaurants on Welton and Larimer. Street parking. 2 Bedrooms/2 Bathrooms perfectly sleeps two couples (additional charge for additional guests). We have a pack-n-play and baby gates available upon request. It is my home, but i will lock my personal items away and with the exception of a small portion of the closet the whole place is yours during your stay.
Denver's oldest neighborhood, Curtis Park nestled between gritty RINO with craft breweries, restaurants and Welton Street - all in walking distance (minimum 3 blocks away). About one mile to Denver's 16th Street Mall. One block from Curtis Park with public outdoor pool open Jun-Aug
  • Wow, what a great host, place, and location! Patrick responded quickly to our messages and checked in on us when we arrived and a couple of times during our stay at the Farmhouse. Patrick had snacks, beer, bubbly, and flavored waters available for us during our stay. The Farmhouse was the best Airbnb we have ever stayed in. It is immaculately clean, roomy, and wonderfully furnished. It is a very walkable location being only one block from a light rail station and just a few blocks from shops, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, clubs, and breweries. We wish we could live in the Farmhouse!

  • A wonderful, friendly space, convenient to public transportation but also a good walking area - close to groceries, restaurants, breweries. Nicely-furnished & thoughtfully provisioned (great little kitchen, washer/dryer a real plus) - Patrick really has the gift of hospitality and was a pleasure to work with! Would definitely stay again & have already recommended to others.

Strum an acoustic guitar by the fire within the eclectic trappings of a country-chic cottage. Dine at an antique table set below a charmingly wreathed chandelier. Gather around a backyard fire pit to cap off the evening under the stars.
*Taxes are collected separately. Please see house rules* -Wifi -Queen bed -Two twin beds in loft -Electric fireplace -Full kitchen -Smart TV: access to personal Hulu/Netflix/HBO Go accounts -Chromecast -Keurig with coffee and green tea -Towels -Blow Dryer -Ice Trays -Filtered water -Luggage racks -Outdoor courtyard -Fire pit -Soaker tub -Shampoo, Conditioner and Bodywash -Library We built and styled this cottage out of our love for adventure, history, creating an experience and the pure romance of traveling. The space is littered with family heirlooms and pieces of antique art that tell the story of our fair city. In the morning, the sun spills through the east facing wall, lighting up the cathedral ceilings and garland cladded chandelier. In the corner of the cottage is a reading nook where you can forget about your worries and dive into any of the novels housed in the library shelves. Wave your hand in front of the electric fireplace to ignite flames that create an authentic ambience or build a real fire in the fire pit outside. Take a long bath in the stock-tank-converted tub or grab the remote for the smart TV and sign into your Netflix/Hulu/HBO Go accounts. You can also cast something from your own computer with our Chromecast. If your adventurous spirit leads you beyond the walls of the The Cleveland Cottage, hop in a Lyft/Uber and take the 5 minute ride to the famous 5 points in East Nashville or downtown to the Honky Tonks. If you get tired, no worries, we've got a personal Keurig, in our full/fully stocked kitchen, to keep you going for days.
The cottage is in the Historic Cleveland Park neighborhood of East Nashville adjacent to the original thoroughfare, Dickerson Rd. The area is laid-back with nearby eateries and cafes, while only a 10-minute drive from the bustle of Downtown.
  • My wife and I stayed for one night. It's a well appointed space full of character and charm.

    Greg2016-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • We LOVED our stay at the Cleveland Cottage. The accommodations are exactly as pictured and we loved that the cottage "felt like Nashville". So many fun neighborhoods to explore so we were glad that we rented a car and could come and go throughout the day. It was the perfect spot for a getaway with my husband. Thank you!

    Kate2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • The girls did a nice job converting this (former garage?) into an eclectic but comfortable space. Small but nicely designed and decorated. The ladder to the loft is better suited to a younger crowd. Beta was very helpful in letting us drop our luggage so we didn't have to have it in the car when we went for a tour. The Grand Olde Opry and Gaylord tour was well worth the time and money.

    Donna2016-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a sweet cottage! Very well decorated and the lay out was perfect. You could tell much thought was given to the aesthetics and comfort of the cottage. Warm and inviting. We were lucky enough to have 70 degree temperatures in January for our stay, so we took advantage of the private, lovely patio and fire pit. The neighborhood is very eclectic and quiet. Beta stopped by when we first arrived to say welcome and give us the lay of the land. She is a very warm person. We definitely recommend the Dreamy Cottage for your Nashville stay. I have already told several friends about it.

    Karen2016-02-01T00:00:00Z

    Amanda2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very much enjoyed our stay! Beautiful, sweet cottage. A quick Uber ride to downtown and the Pharmacy. I fell in love with Nashville and can't wait until my return :)

  • We had the best time at the Cleveland Cottage! Beta was a great host and gave us wonderful recommendations of food and activities in the area. The place was super clean, had many amenities, and great AC. We loved the little details that Beta and Emily put into the Cottage to make it a real home away from home. We were one of the first to use the kitchen and it was well stocked with cooking supplies and was very easy to use. The bed was almost TOO comfortable which made it difficult to get out of bed every morning. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to rest during our first trip to Nashville. We look forward to staying at the Cleveland Cottage again! Thank you for the wonderful stay! Spencer and Meggan

  • We loved the unique interior. It was comfortable, with every convenience we needed. Hosts were very nice and provided a booklet with reccommendations of places to eat and things to do. We used Lyft for rides to attractions and were very pleased with how quickly they arrived and delivered us to our destination.

A cozy & clean renovated cottage in South Inglewood with private entrance. One bedroom, one bathroom cottage w/ a nice patio and backyard. Plenty of street parking. We'd love to help make your Nashville trip perfect!
Our cottage, which was renovated last year, is spacious (384 sq ft) with plenty of privacy. Included is a big patio and large backyard. Inside the cottage you'll find a full size bed, couch, dining table with chairs, shower/bathtub, and washer & dryer. Soap, shampoo, detergent, hair dryer, noise machine and filtered water are all provided.
Located in South Inglewood, we are very close to all the great East Nashville spots and only 4 miles to downtown. Our street is an upcoming residential area that is improving everyday. We are walking distance from a great YMCA and our neighborhood Mexican restaurant called Las Maracas. There's no shortage of good food, bars, shops and nightlife just minutes away. Most importantly, in the four years we've lived here, we've always felt safe.
  • We stayed one night in Nashville and this was the perfect place to stay! Comfortable and clean and they had great recommendations!

    Kate2016-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Julian was short and sweet. The room and bath were very neat and clean and was as seen in their photos. Julian is a very cordial and friendly host. He invited us to go to a bar with him, but alas we couldn't as my 18 year old was with us. Anyhow, if I ever make it back to Nashville, I would definitely consider staying there again.

    Alice2015-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very clean and cute. It was very close to a lot of great spots like Barista Parlor. Julian left an awesome list of a lot of great local spots and was very quick to respond to any questions.

    Nicole2016-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was the perfect getaway for our road trip! It is spacious, cozy, and provided everything we needed, even a book of recommended places to go and eat! It was so close to downtown and other adorable areas of Nashville. :) As our first experience doing airbnb, we felt comfortable and excited to use it in the future! Would definitely return to Julian's cottage in future visits to Nashville. Thanks for a great experience, Julian!

  • Absolutely loved this space for our stay in Nashville. Very clean and had all necessities for a great stay. Check-in and out was effortless, and the decor is great!! Highly recommend.

    Melissa2017-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a sweet space! It is simply but delightfully decorated. I stayed here for one very quick overnight with my furry companion and we both very much enjoyed it. There is a couch that isn't shown in the picture, but it is a great addition to the space. It was really nice to be able to relax, listen to the records, and read. Julian was great in providing details about my stay and suggestions for the area and he made a point to check in to make sure all was well. The bed was cozy and having records and a record player made me really feel at home. It was convenient to downtown/gulch area, a quick 15 minute drive. The train is very close, so pretty loud and you can feel it, but it didn't bother me as I live relatively close to a train, so a bit immune to it. And as mentioned, earplugs are provided. While I usually stay with friends while in town, this is my top pick for a place of my own when visiting. Sweet space, great host, in my fave Nash hood, and cozy.

    Lila2016-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was just as described. Easy check in and easy stay. The earplugs helped with the train noise!

    Shelby2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Located within a few minutes of just about anywhere in Nashville you want to go. The place smelled nice and was clean upon arrival. Julian always responded within a few minutes with an answer for every question.

Location, location, location! Large, classy, timeless, comfortable, entire top floor with private entrance in our private house out of a 1890's novel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn one block from the East River. So easy to get to Manhattan by subway, ferry, cab or even foot, and all the best places in the "Burg" Wifi/cableTV/air/heat. (We stay in our separate floor below you never compromising your privacy!)
Perfect location on the Northside Williamsburg, Brooklyn Waterfront scene, my place is a wood beamed classic, with hard wood floors and restored original brick wall. It is the top floor of a 1894 restored house on a very nice semi residential street block. The nicely outfitted place, "the country in the sky" as I refer to it, has a beautiful totally functional "Peerless" antique prewar stove for cooking, generous amounts of pots, a wood burning fire place and a full size refrigerator in the kitchen. The feelings are cozy, warm, cabin like yet elegant. The kitchen and living room are in the same open area. There is a dining room table that seats 4, a beautiful brand new couch that folds down to become a very comfortable queen size bed that sleeps 2. Beyond the living area is the large master bedroom with a queen size bed that sleeps 2 with a large antique dresser and 2 riverside windows. Off the master bedroom is a large tiled classic bathroom with an antique skylight and large tub with shower, and a small bedroom with a twin size bed and riverside window that is nice as a separate rest area, a great place for a child to sleep, or an out of sight room to put your luggage and things. My location is beyond great and safe. 10 minutes maximum in a cab or car service over the Williamsburg Bridge and you are in Manhattan. It is a short walk (3 min) to the North 6th Street East River Ferry ( the scenic quick river route to Midtown Manhattan or lower Manhattan, please check schedules). Subways: L train ( gray line): First stop in Brooklyn, only one stop to Manhattan and a neat 10 minute walk from my place going by shops, restaurants and street vendors to the very frequent Northside L train subway stop at Bedford Ave and North 7 St, (Everything you want to pick up to take back to my place is on Bedford Ave or Kent Avenue which are the walking routes to the subway. (Among the small shops, restaurants and bars, there is now a "Whole Foods" supermarket and a Iphone store on Bedford!) The JM subway that goes over the Williamsburg Bridge with wonderful views of the river and NYC skyline to lower Manhattan (Chinatown etc), is a little further (13 min walk ) through the South Side. After a night out in the neighborhood, you will find this quiet, comfortable, timeless place to come home to that is the top floor of a restored Williamsburg house. All East River parks are a short walk away with their spectacular river and skyline views. During the warm months the weekend flea/food markets down Kent Avenue/North 8 on weekends are fun and back dropped by the river and Manhattan skyline. Grand Street River Park is only a block and a half away. I love going there in the mornings with a cup of tea and taking in the NYC view. The quaint restaurants and music clubs are amazing and abundant, the "Williamsburg Foodtown" Market has all the groceries you need and frankly the only reason I would leave the "Burg" would be to go to a museum, St. Patrick's, Grand Central's Oyster Bar or ice skating at Rockerfeller Center. Indoor Flea Market on North 7th right off Kent Ave, "Mast Brothers Chocolate" on North 3rd off Berry, "Beer Garden" restaurant lunch, dinner, brunch with live music on Friday nights on North 3rd and Berry, "Sea" restaurant (Thai) on North 6, "Sweet Water" (Bistro) restaurant on North 6, "Dumont Burger" for awesome burgers on Bedford between South 2-3, "Aurora" (Northern Italian) with great brunches, lunches and dinners is right around the corner as is "Coxley's" sport bar with 40 beers on tap and great chicken wings on Grand St. "Teddy's" rest and bar (American Bistro) on North 8, a landmark that serves brunch, lunch and dinner and also has music sometimes at night, and the "Knitting Factory" music performance space and bar is 6 blocks away on Metropolitan. The best NY steak house, "Peter Luger's" reservations only, is in the vicinity. The floor is divided in 4 areas: upon entering you are in the kitchen and living, dining room with a wall and door that separates this space from the large bedroom in the front, the large tiled bathroom and the smaller front bedroom. The living area can easily convert to a sleeping area for 2. The place is adorable and sleeps four comfortably. Much quieter than most places in the area. Heat, air conditioning, wifi, fine linens/towels and kitchen utensils are provided for my guest. Full laundry drop off service and dry cleaners is available a couple of blocks up the street at "Berry Cleaners" or 302 Bedford Ave. My personal assistant/butler and I will check with you on your arrival time, hand over keys and be close at hand for anything you need during your stay. I and my husband are on our private lower floor of the house.
The neighborhood feels like a small village. It is very safe and has such a mixture of different foods, cultures, and restaurants. The Manhattan skyline views along Kent Ave can get no better and the wonderful Pier off North 5 on a Sunday afternoon is full of families, tourist and the occasional fisherman. During the warmer months there are outdoor flea markets and food markets of North 8 on the East River side. Bedford Avenue (3 blocks away) on the North and South side is filled with non chain restaurants, bars and shops.

  • Me and three other friends staid at the "Cabin in the Sky" for about a week over new years eve. All of us loved the place and had no complaints! It is very spacious and cozy, and in a great location. All the appliances work perfectly and the beds are very comfortable. Maria was very helpful and nice getting everything situated as well as Azul who was there to help us whenever we needed it. I would recommend staying here to anyone of my friends or family!

    Jake2013-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our night in this quirky place. It is a third-floor walkup on a busier street, but neither was really a problem. We felt very welcome, and Brooklyn is such a unique place. Each block brings a new experience. I wouldn't suggest planning on doing a lot of cooking, the stove is more of a conversation piece than a chef's tool but we weren't there to cook. Also, there wasn't enough hot water for two showers, but I like really hot showers.

    Mark2015-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was clean, cozy and impeccably charming. As pictured - in a great location near great restaurants, shops and vibes. Azul was extremely accommodating and the entire process was a breeze. Would stay there again!

  • Greg and Maria made us feel so very welcome in their beautiful home. Maria's assistant Azul was also just the perfect host and we had the most wonderful first wedding anniversary out in NYC because of it. We cannot thank yourselves enough and hope to return again soon! Very best to you all, Ali & Rob x

  • Excellent place with a nice view ! Azur was very cool and helpful. Good place to stay in NY !

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Maria's apartment. The location was exactly as described and it was the perfect place for us to explore Williamsburg and also hop on the subway or ferry to Manhattan. Both Maria and Azul were quick to help with any questions that we had.

This is a safe space. We've created a wonderful space that we love. It's full of good energy and happy vibrations. All 420 hardware is available. All is Love here. It's in Southeast Denver near I-25 and Evans. It's 15 mins from downtown & 20 mins from the airport. Come play!
*** PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE INQUIRING. *** *** THIS IS A SAFE SPACE *** *** Must be LGBTQIA+ friendly because we are, too! *** ️‍ *** There is cat hair in the space. If you’re severely allergic please don’t stay here. :) *** *** 420 Friendly - cannabis inside, anywhere, cigarettes outside. There’s a 420 shelf for all your hardware needs! Dab rig, pipes, papers, grinder, etc *** The space doesn’t have a consistent smell of cannabis. It’s aired out between every group of guests. * If this place is booked for the dates of your trip, check out our other listing: https://abnb.me/fvZssMVlJT It’s our totally separate private basement. Super nice! Check in is at 2p, but is definitely flexible depending on your needs and the guests prior to you. You can at least drop your bags off if your travel plans have you arriving early in the day. Lauren is a very open-minded queer woman that wants you to have a great time in Denver. She can help you find what you want to do and where you should go to do it. You’ll be communicating with Lauren consistently. Natalie loves to build community and speaks Spanish fluently. The condo is easy to find with lots of street parking. Please park on Arizona Ave. We’re close to the airport in terms of Denver standards -about 25 minutes. The bus system is relatively easy to use but gets limited late at night. You have to climb one flight of stairs to get to the condo. Make yourself at home! We travel a lot for work, so you may need to change your own sheets though it is not likely. Lauren is a sound healer and offers discounted treatments if you stay with us. Lauren’s work is to bring the body from a place of imbalance to a place of balance using the vibrations of ancient instruments. It's like a full cellular body massage! We don't have cable - We have internet, plenty of DVDs and a little projector for a fun entertainment center extraordinaire. If you bring a laptop or gaming system you can connect it via HDMI to the projector. There's a grocery and liquor store within walking distance if you have any needs that I don't have stocked. Feel free to do laundry with my personal machines and supplies.
Very close to I-25, yet quiet and clean. I have very nice neighbors.
  • Perfect stay for a quick stop in Denver! The apartment has great energy with colorful walls, artwork/musical instruments, and positive messages that made us super relaxed and inspired. Very clean and spacious with easy parking out front. We unfortunately did not get a chance to meet Lauren, but she was an excellent host, very friendly and welcoming in our communication. Thank you, Lauren!

  • She is totally amazing and a complete pleasure to meet. She saved my life when my plans fell through and let me book her place my entire stay without any hesitation! 5 Points is Denver's historic African American downtown. Once upon a time, Welton Street was home to some of the greatest jazz clubs in the country. The famous Rossonian is in the process of being restored to it's former glory and many music venues have sprung up around the neighborhood. Though the gentrification of 5 Points is well underway, it's residents are hoping to preserve it's diversity and sense of community. This part of Denver is growing and changing rapidly! There are tons of galleries, street art, breweries, restaurants and bars nearby. We are close to Downtown but still quiet and neighborhood-y. please checkout our guide book to see our recommendations. *This is an Urban environment. If you are uncomfortable being around folks of different cultures, classes or colors, please find a different neighborhood to stay in.
  • Eliza's house was beautiful and BOTH BEDS WERE COMFORTABLE! I can't stress how rare this is. Walkable to downtown, the airport train and good food, super cute interior and touches, we had everything we needed for a great stay.

    Sonya2017-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Eliza Jane's house was terrific. The location was perfect for accessing central Denver. The house was spacious, sunny, and very comfortable. We enjoyed the record player and album collection too! Eliza Jane had great communication with us and made sure that all was set up for a great stay.

    Brian2016-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, artistic, eclectic home in a great central location. We loved the record player, the beds were comfortable and the house was well stocked with thoughtful touches. We would love to stay here on our next visit.

    Lyndy2014-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect little house, great location, and great amenities. Nothing beats having an amazing record collection to browse through! Bus and rail station are a shirt walk away and open you up to get to the downtown core in 10-15min. Overall this property was all we wanted and more!

    Byron2015-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • We LOVED this little home. Just a hop and a skip from downtown area, it was the perfect home base for us to explore the city! We played an old Hawaiian record my dad had listened to growing up that we found in their record collection and enjoyed just hanging out and relaxing together as a family. It was my dads first time in an Airbnb, and as a world traveller and previous hotel owner he was shocked about how nice it can be to come home to a space that has character and feels like its been lived in versus a sterile run of the mill hotel room. I loved the art on the walls, not that that matters too much, but the aesthetic of the home was perfect. Was also nice to have a nice warm home during a cold spell outside!

    Kelly2015-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • The house was amazing! It was beautiful, clean and in an awesome part of town. If your familiar with Denver, you'll know that this is the place to be. This House was so charming and inviting, I felt like I was staying at a friend's.

    Wes2015-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great house! They have a banjo, a piano, and a record player. It definitely attuned to our likes!

    Nam2013-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • A group of friends and I decided to stay at Eliza's house as an alternative to the usual hotels we stay at. We couldn't have been happier to have made that decision. Eliza's place is a great place to stay if you are ever in Denver.

Beautiful apartment, within walking distance of parks, bars, museums and downtown. This is the perfect place if you are looking to feel super comfortable in a new space and if you want to explore the city.
  • Great place! Right by a ton of great places to visit in Capitol Hill. Bigger than it looks in the pictures and very friendly hosts.

    Jonathan2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • A mixed bag: a funky place, but with things missing (such as a table or shelves to use in the room). A pleasant enough host - but one who was very seldom around, and a resulting lack of clarity about the rules (can one use the kitchen? should one turn off lights left burning?). There was also no information about the city or how to get around (a map would have been nice) for those unfamiliar with it. Perhaps it's the Northwest spirit: you can go there, but you're on your own after you arrive...

    John2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great neighborhood with plenty of top-notch local spots and a very central location for those who want to travel a little further. It never took us longer than 20 minutes to get anywhere, and we walked or took the link the entire trip. There’s also a ton of room in the apartment and lots of unique decor you won’t get at a lot of places. I will say, it was quite chilly in the unit, so if you— like me— can’t handle it, definitely pack pajamas and other clothes accordingly.

  • Looking for a unique, home-y place to rest for a few days in Seattle while being close to cute shops and restaurants? Stay here! I loved the artful aesthetic and natural light not to mention the super comfy bed. Plus James was easy to reach and made check in and out simple and easy! Will definitely stay here again!

    Elle2017-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • James + Christine were great hosts! They were super friendly, yet still let us have our space. Their place is even more lovely than it looks in the photos and is very spacious! The location in Capital Hill is wonderful - groceries, coffee and restaurants all near by. Transit is easy to access and you can walk to Downtown in about 35 minutes, which we loved. The bed was comfy (and larger than it looks in the photos), the room was quite large too and the kitchen had pretty much everything you'd need (minus a microwave)! I would highly recommend staying here and would definitely stay here again!

  • A very artistic place in a great neighborhood, and within 30 minutes walk of downtown Seattle. Wonderful hospitality and very good communication. We can definitely recommend staying here.

  • If you're seeing Seattle, this is the place you have to stay/bed down. Home and neighborhood a pleasure all around.

    John2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for me and I loved staying here. I felt at home as soon as I walked in! I slept well in the cozy, comfy bed, and it was very quiet until morning. James is a most interesting and helpful host! This room is in an apartment in an older (20's - 30's?) building so I found the fixtures and design charming.

A cozy cottage behind a lovely Victorian house. It has a 3/4 bath (shower). The cottage has a brick patio and a large trellis covered with roses and grape vines set in an English Garden. Also, see our equally nice "Victorian in the Heart of Ballard" rental: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20928
A cozy cottage behind a lovely Victorian house with separate access and a 3/4 (meaning shower but no bathtub) bathroom. The cottage has a brick patio and a large trellis on the south side covered with roses, grape vines, and wisteria and is surrounded by an English Garden. The pictures posted should give you the right idea. (Alternative accommodation: We also have a really lovely rental space in the main house. See: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20928 ) The cottage: there is a microwave, a small fridge, and an electric kettle for making coffee or tea. It offers considerable privacy if that is desired. The bed is queen-sized. Extra high-speed WiFi is also provided along with cable TV, including all of the premium channels. It is also possible to close some giant wood-paneled pocket doors if you want to divide the studio into a bedroom and sitting room, if case someone wants to sleep and someone else does not. The cottage is used as a studio by Liz (who is the English gardener) when it is not being used as a guest house. So there is a lot of (really excellent) art, mostly studies in the human form, on the walls and shelves. (If you would like a cast of one of the statues, talk to Liz.) The Ballard Neighborhood is a great place to visit: *10 minute walk to downtown Ballard with fabulous bars and restaurants, great Sunday farmers market, nice three-screen cinema, and much more. *5 minute walk to the Ballard Locks, where ships enter and exit Puget Sound from Seattle waterways. *10 minute drive to downtown Seattle. Buses also run regularly downtown from close by - either to downtown Seattle or to the University District and elsewhere. Evenings are very quiet here and the air quality is unusually good for a city. We get a fresh sea breeze off of Puget Sound in the early evening. Guests find the cottage a calming and refreshing refuge from the bustle of the city.
Ballard is a fantastic destination neighborhood for restaurants and bars and music. We are an easy walk (5-10 minutes) from downtown Ballard. Great breakfast places even closer.
  • We had a great time here. My boyfriend and I went to a wedding this weekend and were looking for a nice quiet and romantic place to stay that was outside of downtown. This place was perfect! The room was clean, cosey, quiet and in a very great location. (only a ten min walking distance from downtown Ballard). I had some reserves about the futon and one of the previous reviews about it being like an icebox in the winter...But the futon was really a comfy bed and there were two space heaters that heated the room just nicely. Liz and Brad were great and very accommodating. We'll be back again!

    Sara2011-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • The place was lovely and just what I needed. Convenient and cozy with a comfy bed and colorful art everywhere. It was nice to get to meet Liz when I arrived. I appreciate being able to book and arrive within the hour! Warm, friendly, knowledgeable hosts with fast communication. I'd definitely recommend for a single person or couple wanting to enjoy Ballard and the surrounding beautiful areas- Golden Gardens, etc.

  • Brad and Liz were great! Excellent location, comfortable room and clean bathroom. Great stay, highly recommend.

  • Great value. Really good location.

    Joey2018-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended little cottage with great hosts in a great neighborhood. Brad and Liz were friendly and helpful with directions, suggestions of places to eat, and any requests we had. Plus, there were cool cats for petting in the lovely garden. The only issue we had was a somewhat flakey wi-fi connection, though Brad was super attentive in dealing with this. We look forward to staying again next time.

    Clark2011-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Brad & Liz are fantastic!!! My wife Monica and I want to add a huge pile of flowers onto the already huge pile of positive reviews of there place... and them!!! If you are looking for a great place with great people....this is it!! A review I read before staying at there place said "this is the best Airbnb place to stay in Seattle" I want to repeat that statement..."This is the best Airbnb place to stay in Seattle!!!!!!" My sister lives in Seattle...and my wife and I plan to visit again. When we return...we plan to stay with Brad and Liz Les & Monica

  • This was our second visit and it did not disappoint. Comfortable and quiet in a great location. We will be back (again)!

    Lorraine2017-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was wonderful! It was further back from the city so you could sleep peacefully but close to everything. The cool neighborhood of Ballard plus the close proximity to downtown Seattle, allowed us to explore a lot of areas and try delicious restaurants. During the winter, space heaters are used, it is very cold when you first walk into the house but it warms up pretty quickly. Parking was easy and right in front of the house. There is a friendly cat who greets you upon your arrival--unfortunately I am very allergic so I couldn't fully enjoy his presence. I would definitely recommend staying here for your next Seattle getaway, it has everything you could possibly need!

She picked us up from the ferry, she gave us a 3 hour tour of the island ( valued at $60 if you book one downtown!), she had 2 bikes for our use. Her house was very near downtown, but also secluded and private. She is on the beach and let us take her chairs out to the beach. We stayed upstairs in a very private area with out own bathroom. One of our favorite places to stay via Airbnb!!!

This is the ideal Beaver Island getaway. Carol's place offers a convenient location, charm, and a local connection to the island's heartbeat. We loved that Carol picked us up from the ferry and gave us helped us orient ourselves to the town. My grandmother and I loved lounging on the deck day and night, and it was the perfectly located for us to slow down and relax mid-day when needed. Carol was warm and welcoming, and being above the boat shop was a treat. This apartment will elevate your Beaver Island vacation to a blissful experience.

WORDS alone are insufficient to describe how wonderful this space is and how awesome Seamus is as a host. Much love and an entire island community contributed to the creation of the Lodge at Tara's Meadow. The place and space alone are enough to ease the stresses and tensions that tend to blur our everyday lives into an oblivion of constant running around - but when you add the grace of Seamus the host - you have a recipe for a guaranteed great time! Time slows down here. In fact, leave the watch, phone, and laptop at the airport, and enter God's Time on Tara's Meadow to rekindle that which REALLY matters to you! The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful the Lodge and Meadow really are - you just have to experience it. I have three degrees and run a business - in no way am I being reimbursed for this review - I am speaking from the heart - if you found this review - then you DEFINITELY need to visit this place! Get out of the constant hustle and bustle, catch a fifteen minute flight to the island, ask to sit in the copilot's seat on the plane, and get ready for the best adventure the Midwest has to offer! Seamus is the best host! He also does tours of the island and lives an intimate and very real connection to the history of the island and the history of Ancient Europe in general. When I asked for a much needed retreat here, Seamus first met with me to plan out every meal - fresh whitefish from Lake Michigan from the local deli on the island, blueberries from the mainland, herbs from the island, he is the most gracious host offering to split the cost of food. Seamus lives humility and grace. He walks and talks the island traditions. Take advantage of this amazing situation while you still can! As I said, I have several degrees, one in biochemistry and environmental chemistry, and I call Seattle a second home, so I am not easily impressed to say the least. But for me to have this much good to say about a place - and to say that my words are an understatement - truly reveals the impressive quality, the attention to detail, and amazing grace that is all that Seamus and Tara's Meadow have to offer. Invite the whole family! You will not regret it! In fact, like me, you will be eagerly awaiting your next visit! Plane ride and all, this place and this host are hands down AWESOME!

We loved the location (right next to restaurant, grocery store, marina) and the view. Within walking distance (.5 mile) of the ferry dock and interesting sights on Whiskey Point. This new place is squeaky clean and a great value for the money. Sleeps 3 comfortably, and you can save money by cooking if you like, it's fully equipped. Loved the view from the deck. If you're considering a trip to Beaver Island, we'd highly recommend staying here!

Just had a great stay on Beaver Island with Linda and her dog Ruby at their retreat home! Linda was very welcoming upon my arrival, filling me in on things about the Island, and also had a check in book with tips on places to visit. She also loaned me a map to help get around the island, which was very helpful. The house was super clean and had everything available to make it a comfortable stay, including WiFi if you need it. The bedroom and bathroom had individual heat control which was great and the mattress was very comfortable as well. As far as location, Linda's place was perfect because it was just a few mile bike ride to town and very close to the beach. I would definitely recommend staying with Linda if you are planning a trip to Beaver Island!!

The house is a few hundred yards from the "downtown". It has a rustic look inside and out but everything is clean and working. There is a TV with DVD. There is stacked laundry in the kitchen. Two modest bedrooms downstairs and a loft upstairs with two beds. One bathroom with a shower. The yard is rather bare and the house is behind a building but you can see the water from the street. There is a restaurant and a grocery store within a block. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. Our only wish is that there were dressers in the bedrooms.
