Characterful and quirky upstairs flat with mezzanine and outside terrace in a converted vintage property in the Peak District town of Wirksworth, sleeps 2. Dogs welcome. Wirksworth is an attractive and lively town with an award winning restaurant (Le Mistral) and old fashioned pubs. Come and explore its winding streets, its unique mixture of architectural styles and well establised walks. In addtion to the stunning scenery of the Peak District National Park, there is an annual arts festival (September), community owned swimming pool, Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Cromford Mill, Carsington Water, the National Stone Centre and excellent antique shops both in Wirksworth itself and further afield in Matlock Bath and Ashbourne.
  • The place was really well presented, obviously cared for and interestingly decorated to idiosyncratic taste - it looked a labour of love which made it all the better a stay. The location was really good with a private parking space, just down the road from Wirksworth's town centre. It was quiet too, which is especially welcome if you're looking to get away from the constant drone of the city.

  • Absolutely gorgeous flat! I only wish that we had stayed longer! There was everything that we needed and it felt very cosy and sumptuous at the same time.

  • Wonderful apartment in a great location. Wirksworth is a lovely little market town with great access to the Peak District, making it a good base to explore from. Couldn't have asked for more from the apartment.

  • The Coach House is a lovely flat in a great location. Sylvia was a great host and made us feel very welcome, we'd definitely book with her again.

    Rachel2014-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely flat, convenient location. We picked up the keys from a local pub. Everything was really clean and tidy and Sylvia was lovely (we met her on our way out). Thanks for a great stay.

    Catherine2015-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Sylvia's flat is spacious and welcoming. It's in a great spot in the centre of Wirksworth and the locality has plenty to offer. We really enjoyed our stay here and would certainly recommend it.

    Damon2015-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We didn't actually meet Sylvia in person but she gave clear and helpful instructions via email beforehand. It is difficult to add anything extra to other reviews, the flat is lovely and cosy, nicely decorated and very comfortable and homely. Wirksworth is an interesting and pleasant village with some attractive restaurants and pubs. We could definitely have stayed longer (like other reviewers) and will return again in the future (like other reviewers).

  • Had a wonderful time at the Brew House. We were met by a very enthusiastic Steve who welcomed us into his house with open arms, not what we were expecting and was a really nice surprise. After a brief run down of local walks and places to eat etc he showed us to the room. All I can say is what a little gem, loved the cosiness and yes its small but just perfect to celebrate our anniversary. Had great fun climbing the ladder to the bedroom, everything we needed. The garden was lovely, a secret garden with lots of things to see, discovered that the tiny bedroom windows were the same level as the garden which was another special touch. A great holiday thank you Steve and Sue, we cant recommend you enough and will definitely be back sometime, but for longer.

  • We can't recommend the brew house highly enough. We had one lovely night in the brew house and can't wait visit again! Hopefully next time we can stay a little longer. Steve was a superb host and honestly could not have asked more from him or his amazing home. The brew house is small but is plenty big enough for two people and it is presented really well. Also the wet room is great, loved the shower. We spent the evening in their beautiful garden with a bottle wine which was so nice and would highly recommend making use of the garden. The figs on their fig tree weren't quite ripe to eat but we were encouraged by Steve to help our selves if they were ready. The town it self was lovely and very friendly. Steve recommended a few pubs and restaurants to try. We tried a couple and they were really nice, the black head pub had a good selection of beers and nice beer garden. We also went to a restaurant called Le mistral as recommended and we had the best meal we have had out in a long time. Looking forward to staying again. Mark

  • We had a wonderful stay in Wirksworth. Steve was a great welcoming host, happy to accommodate our arrival time and gave us great recommendations on when to eat and drink. I wish I could have stayed longer and I would definitely stay again.

    Stefan2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a tremendous, cosy, and characterful spot The Brewhouse is, nestled in the truly unique (and equally characterful) town of Wirksworth. For such a ‘small’ place it’s absolutely packed with shops, history, sculpture (do visit the StarDisc - it’s worth the hill), small shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as a small, independent cinema. Visitors can find lots to see within walking distance of Brewhouse, but it’s a great jumping off point for all manner of riches in the broader Derbyshire countryside. Steve is a great host - welcoming, and full of information and enthusiasm for the town, and his home. The ‘starter pack’ of tea, coffee, biscuits, milk, and souvenir chocolate (!) was a very welcome and thoughtful addition. The garden, garden-room and courtyard all expand the Brewhouse’s space to be more than it at first appears, and the town itself also has much to recommend it.

    Emma2017-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. What a fantastic place. The town itself is very cool with plenty of places to eat/drink/shop. Steve gave us a fantastic welcome to the property and neighbourhood. Very quirky little place, we thoroughly enjoyed listening to some vinyl.

    April2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely as described, but a little better! The brew house was absolutely immaculate. Beautifully decorated with a spotless finish. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the cool box was a handy touch. Steve was a very welcoming gentleman. Couldn't ask for more.

    Kelly2015-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was very welcoming, as was his wife Sue. Made us feel very comfortable and gave a brief lowdown of what was in the area and decent places to eat. He also looked after a couple of our bags for a few hours after we left the accommodation, which was very helpful. They couldn't have done much more for you as hosts and would happily stay there again if we went back to the area. We stayed for two nights, and I don't think you'd want to stay more owing to the lack of cooking facilities. There was a microwave for doing porridge which was great. Make sure you get along with your companion well if not travelling solo as it's very cosy!!

    James2016-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful historic building situated perfectly central to all your needs. Close to some atmospheric heritage pubs and eateries. Steve goes above and beyond to welcome all into his unique and delightful home. The brew house delivers as promised, with fantastic spaces including an outside dining area and out house to relax and listen to some old classic records. The picturesque mystical garden is one of a kind, with fascinating art and sculptures to interest all. Would highly recommend - 5 stars.

  • We had a great weekend in the Wash House! Steve and Sue were both so welcoming to us on arrival. The place itself is beautiful, it had everything we needed, and was very comfortable. Wirksworth offered us a good breakfast, a really good long walk in both the sun and snow, and a good pub meal at the end. We couldn't fault it at all - thanks again both, hopefully we'll see you again soon!

  • Great place if you fancy a quiet with easy access to the Peak District. Tranquil, right on the high street with a minute walking distance to bars restaurants and Gino's were the Pizza it's great! I would recommend anyone to stay here. The "room/house" was great, small sink, toaster, kettle, cafetiere, access to an independent fridge and freezer and a vinyl player. What else would you need! Last but not the least, you can walk from the house to the top of the hill (10 minutes) Stonewood Getting Away to the Stars. (should do it if clear sky) It is amazing. I will be coming back again.

  • What a wonderful cottage! Alistair and Christine were very patient with us as we arrived later than planned from getting a bit lost! They were both very helpful on the phone making sure we found the cottage and helped us to park our car. The cottage was spotless and so beautifully decorated. We would definitely like to stay here another time!

  • I can't think of a better base from which to explore the Peak District National Park than this beautiful little cottage. The lovely village of Winster is filled with heritage listed stone buildings and narrow lanes that wind steeply up the hill. The cottage is cosy, character filled and the perfect choice for a couple or solo traveller. The hosts are friendly and welcoming, respectful of their guests' privacy, but close by if needed. You may have to walk up the hill for mobile reception, but that's a small price to pay for the perfect weekend away - longer if you're lucky.

    David2015-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • A great location in the Peak District with plenty of walking trails on your doorstep. Alistair and Christine were brilliant hosts and made every effort to ensure our stay was comfortable and relaxing. Would highly recommend!

  • We have just spent a lovely 4 nights in Wirksworth - it was out first Airbnb stay and based on this experience won't be our last! Jane's house lived up to exactly what all the other reviews had said - it is very stylish, comfortable, spotlessly clean, in a great location and the cake and flowers were individual touches and much appreciated. We ate at the local French restaurant (couple of minutes walk) and had take outs from an Indian restaurant in Matlock and pizza place just around the corner. During the day we visited Chatsworth, walked up Mam Tor and from Ilam to Dovedale and across the stepping stones. We wouldn't hesitate in coming back again.

    Jo2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely relaxing stay at Jane’s place. It is located in a lovely little village with some good walking routes around.

    Laura2018-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Jane's house. All the informations she gave us were useful. The red folder in the house gave us great ideas for restaurants, walks... The house is lovely, very clean and offers all you need. We stayed 5 nights and didn't want to leave ! We would highly recommend this house. Thank you Jane.

    Flore2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful – decorated very nicely – immaculately clean. Jane’s communication from the outset was great – she even left a delicious homemade cake for us all to enjoy. The cottage is very well located in the village of Wirksworth within a minutes walk from local shops/restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.

  • What a wonderful time we had here! A beautifully clean, well-appointed and comfortable home from which to explore the Peaks and every tiny town between. Wirksworth itself is a delight, and there is so much to see and do. The cheesecake on arrival was delicious, and indicative of the thought and care that has clearly gone into everything from decor to conveniences. Thank you for such a lovely stay!

  • Three of us stayed in the cottage for three nights over Easter weekend. We arrived to a clean and tastefully decorated home. The kitchen cupboards are well stocked and there is a convenient supply of toiletries if you forget any! The beds were very comfortable and the choice of pillows was great! The stairs are quite steep, so perhaps bearing in mind for people who struggle as the master bedroom is on the top floor. We walked (in less than 10 minutes) to the centre of Cromford and I can recommend the steak and ale pie at the Greyhound Pub. We went for a drink in the Boat Inn but did not eat here. Anya was a great host and responds quickly to messages. If we visit the Peak District again, we would return to the cottage.

    Abbie2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. It is very comfortable and has everything you would need (including a well stocked kitchen). The hosts have clearly taken a lot of pride in arranging and decorating it, with lots of nice little thoughtful touches. The cottage is on a reasonably busy road but we didn't notice much, even though I am a light sleeper! The location is perfectly situated for the Peak District and Cromford is a beautiful little village with a great butchers and a choice of pubs.

    Erica2015-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • A very good place to stay, don't bring more than one car, as there is little extra parking nearby.

    Charlotte2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful week in the cottage. It has the charm of a traditional house but , at the same time, it is nicely decorated, warm and comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with everything you might need, and there were complimentary tea, coffee, sweets and biscuits. We really enjoyed all the time we spent in the cottage and all the walking routes and sightseeing tours in the area. Beautiful garden too. Anya was very helpful from the beginning and provided us with very useful information about almost everything.

    Mario2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, clean, comfortable and interesting. We had a great short break here and was as listed. I would recommend this as a good place to stay if exploring the East side of the peaks.

    Philip2016-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is found in the village of cromford. This is a great spot close to the peak district and to the lovely matlock bath. The cottage was beautifully clean, and we were left some beatiful little touches which made us feel so welcome! The cottage is very well equipped and had everything we could have ever needed for our stay! The wood burner was perfect on this cold and rainy November weekend.

    Rebecca2015-11-08T00:00:00Z

  • We loved our stay at Sharon's penthouse so much we didn't want to leave! It's very comfortable and spacious with a great kitchen, shower and large lounge with dining table. The view from the lounge and the bedroom is stunning. We booked last minute but Sharron was very accommodating making check-in really easy. We arrived in the dark and the directions to find it were spot on. We would definitely stay here again.

  • A wonderful and comfortable apartment. Beautiful views over idyllic countryside, with easy access to Matlock and Matlock Bath. Attractions and things to do aplenty and the relaxing atmosphere of the local area made our stay very worthwhile and we would love to stay again in the future.

  • Very cosy cottage. Clean place and good communication from out host Linda.

  • Really nice cottage in a great area. Enjoyed our stay.

    Joseph2015-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous village and fantastic location. The internal stairs are very steep and need to be taken very carefully. The kitchen is bijou but everything was there we needed and it just meant only one of us could be in it at a (Website hidden by Airbnb) husband obviously...he he... The bed was super comfortable and as it was so quiet too we both slept wonderfully. As this is a very old cottage with small windows and thick walls it was a bit chilly, even in July...but it was lovely using the wood burner.

    Debbie2016-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • No surprises, is as stated...cosy and comfortable cottage, ideal for our walking trip. Only trouble was working out how to lock front door (you have to raise lever upwards while turning key). Linda was helpful and prompt in her replies to my messages. Recommended.

    Keith2014-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great time. Location is great and you can settle in to relax or go to a wide variety of attractions that are well sign posted. Do be aware parking is at a premium though! Lots of lovely local pubs and eateries and plenty of scope for walking adventures!

    Alasdair2016-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • We were a family of staying in the cottage for 3 nights. The cottage is set in an idyllic location right in the heart of the village. Linda is a great host, very quick to respond and forthcoming with advice and suggestions. Cottage is clean and well equipped. We had a brilliant time and will come back. We spent many hours (and pounds!!) in Scartjin Books which is a lovely bookshop just a few doors away.... And Huntley Green just down the road serves up fantastic food, cakes and coffee!

    Keng2015-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely place to stay, even with the small kitchen we managed fine, nice walks around can recommend the boat Inn, scarthin bookshop/cafe and the chip shop that does gluten free fish and chips !!

World Heritage cottage in bustling Cromford Our house in North Street is a beautifully presented grade two listed terraced cottage set in a peaceful location in the historic village of Cromford. This charming cottage has 2 bedrooms, a modern bathroom, lounge with log burner and a dining kitchen.
North Street is a sympathetically restored 240 year-old terraced, former millworkers' cottage situated in the village of Cromford on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park . The cottage combines simple Georgian style with modern comforts and is perfect for those wishing to explore the picturesque Peak District. The sitting room is tastefully furnished with an impressive stone fireplace and wood burning stove for a chilly evening. The modern kitchen provides all the cooking essentials as well as a table for dining. Original steep stairs lead to the first floor where there is a beautiful double bedroom with a spiral wooden staircase leading to the second floor, charming bedroom and bathroom with generous walk-in shower. Our outside bench is at the side of the cottage where you can relax to the sound of the spring filling the stone well. We Provide: All bedding, hand towels, bath towels, tea towels, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, toilet rolls and starter pack for the burner/stove.
Cromford is a must for those with an interest in industrial history and exploring the beautiful Peak District. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford is famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the cotton trade, and often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. North Street is the earliest planned industrial housing in the world and the finest of its type, built in 1771 by Richard Arkwright to house the workers from his pioneering cotton mill. Surrounded by countryside, it is at the heart of a designated World Heritage Site. Cromford offers a selection of quality bistros, pubs, shops and cafés, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill and canal. You can also enjoy a visit to nearby: Matlock where antique hunters can enjoy a range of interesting shops (3 miles) Matlock Bath where the cable cars of the Heights of Abraham will offer you a whole new perspective over the area, known to the Victorians as Little Switzerland (1 mile) Chatsworth House & Country Estate (10 miles) Bakewell, a charming market town and home of the Bakewell pudding! (10 miles)
  • The house is amazing. Beautiful & a perfect location. We could have spent our five days in & around Cromford but it was also ideally placed for exploring further afield. We loved all the local history & the fact that the house is such a part of that. We didn't have time to explore all the local amenities, but would highly recommend The Greyhound & The Boat. And had I not been dragged out by a very patient other half, I'd have spent my whole time in Scarthin Books! Karen is a great host who made everything so straight forward with excellent communication. Highly recommended.

    John-Paul2018-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's cottage is beautifully located with everything at your fingertips. Much more than what I expected with the cottage making you feel at ease, comfortable and right at home. The stairs are fairly steep and might cause some difficulty for some people but everything else was perfect. So good, we plan on visiting again next year. Highly recommend Karen's cottage to anyone looking for a home away from home!

    Robyn2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was a really great base - we chose this place as it was close to the attractions in the Peak District that we wanted to see. The house itself was lovely: really comfy bed, easy to use shower, and kitchen with all the bits you would need if you wanted to dine in. Karen kept up communication throughout and left very detailed guides on things to do in the local area. Cromford itself is quite quiet and has a couple of pubs and a restaurant in - ideal if you want a peaceful place to enjoy the Peak District.

  • Lovely cottage in a lovely area.

    Jj2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at Karen’s beautiful cottage. It was very well located, cosy and had everything we needed. It’s located at the end of a quiet historic street and there are lots of places to eat and drink moments away. Highly recommended!

  • The reviews of Karen's cottage speak for themselves. A lovely cosy cottage with all the amenities and extra touches you would need. We really felt at home and had it made our weekend very special. Cromford is a wonderful, quaint little village that I would definitely like to return to and is well situated to get to other parts of Derbyshire and the Peak District. Thanks for a lovely stay.

    Lucy2018-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a memorable stay in this historic cottage. The property is very attractively presented and well-equipped. Karen had put a lot of thought into making our stay comfortable and had provided a range of information about local places to visit. Good local shops and lots of walks straight from the front door. A great experience and well located for visiting places of interest.

    Juliana2017-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely and quaint period property, great for our long weekend away! Karen was great at responding to messages including allowing us to drop off some food for the fridge early and the log burner is ideal if the nights are cold.

Please note that I have the whole holiday cottage available for rent for larger families at school holiday times., however, by renting just the small snug, I can offer a cost effective stay to couples and single travellers. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. My garden at back. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday. Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants). 20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall. Live bands at the boat Pub every weekend. Thu night quiz. Great food. See Facebook. Barley Mo Bonsall a short 3 minute drive or steeper walk is the most quirkiest Pub I’ve ever known. My friend runs it, amazing bands every Saturday. Yearly hen race. Attracts a quirky eclectic crowd. Food fantastic. A real heart of the Peak village Pub and always a fantastic experience. (On Facebook too).
  • Deborah is a lovely host, she makes sure you have everything you need and is very friendly and attentive, she even took the time to show me round the village on my first night. The snug is quirky and authentic and the pull out bed is very comfortable. There is beautiful countryside a short drive away. Kitchen is well kitted out for your cooking needs. Great stay.

    Liz2018-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little place. Deborah was great. The cottage was really cute - very warm and the shower and oven etc all very good. We had the luxury of the drive way space for parking as well, not sure this is always available. Deborah was kind enough to do a last minute booking for us when another place has cancelled and she hadn't been expecting guests. The place was spotless despite this. Did result in us not having sheets for the pull out bed - but I'm sure that's not the norm! Thanks again Deborah.

    Siobhan2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, quirky and unique cottage! I stayed for 3 nights with my partner and my dog and we had a fantastic time. Debora was so friendly, as were her two adorable pooches, who welcomed my cheeky terrier into the pack. The garden and Morrocan-esque gazebo seating area is a beautiful addition to the inside space. We were lucky enough have great weather, and drinking wine by the outdoor fire in the evening before retiring to the comfortable (and huge!) sofa bed made for a fabulous first night. The kitchen is well equipped, and thoughtful and practical touches like tea, wine and condiments were provided. The location is handy if arriving by train, or driving, finding a parking space was no issue. An ideal base for walks by the canal, the Black Rocks and just a stroll to the shops, deli and pubs! (The Boat Inn and Scarthin Book shop cafe I can HIGHLY recommend for scrumptious food!!) But what made our stay truly memorable was the warm welcome and hospitality we received, thank you Deborah and we will most definitely be back soon!

Beautiful 3 bedroom Grade 2 listed stone cottage in this historic village, formerly one of the Arkwright workers' cottages. Large and welcoming kitchen with island and seating, lovely dining room opening up into the lounge with original stone fireplace and impressive log burner. Original stone tiled floor throughout. Downstairs also has a 'snug' with sofa bed and utility area which leads to a small outside seating area. Very large master bedroom and fully refitted bathroom with separate shower.
Would suit a couple or large group alike. Cyclists, walkers, outdoor, adventurers, young and old....
Cromford is a wonderful and friendly village, steeped in history and providing ease of access to number of key Peak District towns, great walks, trails and attractions. Local village shop, a few take-aways and restaurants and two lovely pubs.
  • The house is great, plenty of communal space to relax in. Beautiful village with everything you need on your doorstep. Had a lovely weekend.

  • The cottage is lovely and has a real homely feel to it and is in such a great location. Cromford is really pretty and the canal towpath is only a 10 min walk away and right on your doorstep are a few pubs, cafes and shops. We had a fantatstic weekend here and would highly reccomend

  • Lovely location and great property for a stay to visit the local tourist hot spots, will be back again!

  • We had a very enjoyable stay. The house was nice and clean with plenty of bedding, hot water, kitchen utensils and everything we needed. The pictures don't really do it justice as it is a lovely large spacious house that retains a cottage feel to it. It is perfect for a large family and the kitchen is a great social space with everything you'd need. The little town of Cromford is within easy walking distance (5 mins) and there are nice pubs and shops. We also got a Sainsbury's home delivery on the first day for ease. I would definitely recommend Corner Cottage as a holiday rental and would love to return.

  • Absolutely amazing cottage!! Cosy, warm, romantic, quirky! Such good value for money. Jane thinks of everything - milk, juice, pastries, games, DVDs, leaflets, books - jars of sweets and even hair curling tongs! Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. We felt so at home and comfortable. Would highly recommend Rose Cottage. :)

  • Wonderful place with a great host. Fantastic attention to detail in the cottage, with lots of nice touches such as milk, butter, sweets, crisps and a starter fire pack for the log fire. Also an iPod with a docking station and amazon echo. Jane responded to my numerous emails in super quick time and made local suggestions for nice places to visit. We ate in the pub just across the road, literally not 50m away and had a lovely meal and a few drinks. Thanks Jane, great stay.

  • Great little cottage for a two night break in the Derbyshire Dales. Warm and cosy with a most comfortable bed and lots of lovely little touches to make it a perfect stay. As pointed out the stairs to upstairs are steep!

  • Jane's cottage is a cozy getaway just a few minutes walk away from the high peak trail. As soon as we walked in we fell in love with the atmosphere and found that Jane had gone out of her way to make her home even more welcome for us. The kitchen was fully equipped with a lovely fire in the living room. The bathroom, clean with a good pressured shower and a beautiful bedroom with a big cozy bed. There is also a cottage manual with lots of information on walks, restaurants and takeaways in the area. We'll definitely be back - and for longer!

    Juliette2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was an exceptionally great host, we felt very comfortable and cosy in her place and everything was very neat and tidy with a bit of small touches that made a difference, not to mention the fireplace that adds a lot more charm. The area is very quiet and close to all the good sights, definitely recommend the place.

    Jean2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • It was the attention to detail and the little touches that made this place so special. Great location for exploring the peak district and the whole process was seamless. Definitely worth a visit

    Clare2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was incredibly accommodating regarding arrival and check out times which was a great start but the cottage speaks for itself. Location allowed easy access to some of the best areas of the Peak District and the was so charming and cosy inside as well as being immaculately clean and tidy. Jane even left fresh orange juice, croissants and fresh local milk. The bed was super comfortable and we had some of the best sleep either myself or my girlfriend have had in ages. I couldn't recommend this stunning little cottage enough. We will totally be coming back again soon. Many many thanks!! :)

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.
  • Lovely cosy and comfortable cottage - great value for money - well equipped, walking distance to Matlock bath centre - lovely log burner great to return to after a snowy walk - highly recommended

  • Stayed at the painters cottage over new years with a couple of friends and absolutely loved it. It's a really charming cottage and we'll equipped with everything you could need. We particularly enjoyed the wood burner and would definitely stay again. All I would say is if your driving that the satnav wasn't totally sure where it was so just keep going till you get to the dead end sign and it's on the row to the right of that you can't drive the last bit but parking on the road was fine.

    Tom2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely long weekend away. Though steep, so not necessarily for those with mobility problems, the cottage had the perfect location for us having come without a car. Just 5 minutes walk from Matlock Bath Station those not fancying the walk into Matlock can pick a return ticket for just 80p. Matlock Bath "strip" is under 10 minutes and, though steep it is only a 20 minute walk up to the Heights of Abraham. As well as the train, the 6.1 bus runs from the bottom of the hill into Derby, or a more country route towards Bakewell via Haddon Hall and Matlock Farm Park, and with a hop on and off bus ticket choice, it really opens up the exploring possibilities... The cottage itself was lovely and homely and enjoying evenings by the fire certainly added to the charm. Stunning views for the master bedroom and living room were complimented by the painting throughout. If traveling in the area, whether couple, friends or family, I cannot recommend this cottage more.

  • This cottage is ideally located near the hills and climbing crags, in the centre of beautiful Wirksworth. Everything is convenient, and the pub across the yard is quirky and fabulous. Paul was a great host, and had added many thoughtful touches to the cottage. We were made to feel very welcome and we really enjoyed this spacious and beautifully renovated cottage. We’d love to come back soon, particularly to try out the local cinema, which is highly recommended.

    Anne2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Paul was very helpful, giving advice of events happening in Wirksworth and where to eat. We each received a voucher for the micro brewery, which is located at the front of the cottage. The people there were friendly and welcoming, and we spent an enjoyable few hours looking through the records for sale upstairs and making a few purchases. Location great for walking, there was a small market on the Saturday with a great food choice and local produce. The cottage was just what we were looking for, quirky and cosy. Lovely bedrooms and bathroom. Good laundry and kitchen facilities. We stayed just for the two nights, would have been great to stay longer. Would definitely stay again.

    Carol2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay; loved Wirkswoth and this house, just off the main street and next to the Church, was a great find. Paul was very helpful and responded quickly to all enquiries. I'd have no hesitation staying again and happily highly recommend to others.

    Stephen2018-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • As you can see in the AirBNB pics, Angel Forge is a lovely spot and bigger than we had expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Paul was there to greet us and show us around, which we really appreciated, especially as it it a bit of a secret garden tucked away behind its own wall. We stayed there as a base to visit Chatsworth House, which is only a half-hour drive away, but the village of Winksworth is charming in its own right, full of tiny lanes and alleyways and historic houses. The Airbnb description says it is behind a pub, and we thought that meant attached to the pub, but not at all - It is down a laneway and in its own private garden spot. Very quiet and scenic with the churchyard behind it. Paul has practically rebuilt the old Forge, using quality materials and authentic hardware. It was pretty chilly outside while we were there but the house was quite comfortable. In the evenings, we briefly put up the central heating a couple of degrees and were cosy in no time. We were charmed and think you will love it as well.

  • Lovely, spacious cottage with quiet, pretty garden. Centrally placed in Wirksworth for shops, restaurants & pubs with easy access to the beautiful Peak District. Paul and his wife were friendly, welcoming and informative.

  • A wonderful cottage, with great facilities. The feather star pub was quirky and friendly. Nearby walks from the doorstep. Will definitely return. Thank you!!

    Victoria2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • The property was as gorgeous as the photos. Very comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and a useful manual that covered everything you needed to know about the house. Paul kept in touch and provided useful information prior to arrival, and welcomed us in person shortly after we arrived.

    Jane2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! This place was perfect for exploring the Peak District. Cosy and comfortable and in the middle of a beautiful town with all the amenities you could possibly need within walking distance. Would certainly recommend to friends and family.

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.
  • We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Matchbox. The cottage is beautifully furnished and well equipped - just as the pictures show. Stunning location. Hosts were incredibly helpful and communicative. Would recommend this place to anyone!

  • A great base for exploring the Peak District. A cosy and inviting cottage with all the aminities you could need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Local shops and pubs are a 5 minute walk and we would highly recommend a visit to The Feather Star. A quirky little pub with a great selection of beers and Ales. Friendly staff, board games and a roaring fire, what more could you ask for. Would highly recommend this cottage and location.

  • A quaint little place with an incredible view! Exceeded all expectations and would highly recommend Andrew’s beautiful spot.

    Ryan2018-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely place and the views were absolutely beautiful and looked over a huge amount of the Peak District. Only issue would be it felt slightly small and there were steps up to the bedroom that were very steep and wouldn’t be suitable for everyone (especially is you’re 6ft) It was quite a novelty staying there though and is great for a night stay with a gorgeous cafe close by for food. A very quirky barn convert well worth the trip

Hidden away in beautiful Wensley Dale, locations don't come much better than this. There are superb views across the valley on all the lovely walks from the cottage. A brisk evening stroll along the road by the river will soon get you to the Three Stags and Square and Compass pubs in Darley Bridge. Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill.
The Hayloft has been carefully created out of a mellow stone hay loft in the midst of the sleepy little hamlet of Snitterton. It has a lovely vaulted lounge, dining and kitchen area. The lounge has a comfortable settee and chair, flat screen T.V. D.V.D, SKY and Wi-Fi together with a glowing inset electric fire. The superb kitchen has quality fitted units, halogen hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and automatic washer/dryer. A vaulted double bedroom. An adjoining bathroom with bath/hand held shower and W.C.
Don't forget to visit nearby Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Peak Steam Railway. Other treats include Calver Edge's breathtaking views, Monsal Dale's wonderful waterfalls, the 'little Switzerland' of Matlock Gorge, Sunday breakfast in the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and the ultimate of meals in Stone's restaurant in Matlock. Make sure you get back in time for a drink on the little patio as the swifts and house martins swoop overhead
  • A really beautiful stay in an idyllic location. Wendy was a super host and the flat was very clean and stylish whilst also being the perfect cosy getaway. Would definitely reccomend to friends and family and look forward to returning!

  • The hayloft has got a superb location in stunning scenery, only a short, easy drive from the town of Matlock. The flat is stylishly furnished, very clean and comfortable with lofted ceilings. Despite the cold temperatures this winter, the Hayloft was very easy to keep warm and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped and has ample space to prepare meals. The bedroom is very spacious and has lots of lovely touches. There is also off road parking provided right outside. In all, Wendy is a superb host with great communication, and it was a pleasure to meet Marsbar the cat!

    Jimmy2017-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Wendy's barn. The information provided was very accurate. This is a lovely and private place to go as a rural escape. The barn and surrounding area are picturesque and the location was perfect as a place to explore the Peak District from. I'd recommend Wendy's to anyone wanting to visit the Peak District.

  • The Hayloft was the perfect location for a long weekend away. Great location close to Matlock and very peaceful. Good for walking with lots of beautiful scenery nearby, and nice local pubs. • Very good communication. The place is very cosy and stylish. Great location for visiting the area, not too remote as there is a huge Sainsbury’s a 5 min drive away. Only comment is that the bathroom was not that clean. We had a lovely New Years stay.

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate newly renovated bathroom is for your private use. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (all homemade where possible). You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & Co-Op in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth. We are also with easy reach of a number of local wedding venues including Haarlem Mill (10 min walking distance), Shottle Hall and Alison House among others.
  • Andrew and Sue are a lovely couple who obviously like to share their home with visitors, and enjoy their company without being intrusive. they gave us some useful information about Wirksworth and the surrounding area. we also enjoyed a lovely breakfast of homemade jams and fruit. So when we need accomodation in the district we look them up first. Claudine & Graham

  • We had a brilliant time. Sue is an excellent hostess and obviously enjoys having guests - she was welcoming, enthusiastic, cheerful, full of advice and made our whole visit an absolute pleasure. She's also a great jam and preserve maker!!! Sue gave us loads of information about local walks, places to eat and pubs to visit as well as the folder of information in our room. Our room was large with ample wardrobe and drawer space. The bed was comfortable and warm. The private bathroom is spotless; towels, shampoo and lotions were all provided. Sue even made space in her fridge for our cheeses.

    Kate2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Sue for a lovely breakfast and for accommodating someone with a lot of dietary issues! Enjoy Norwich with the yummy fish & chips and hopefully your new caravan. Best wishes, Julie & Paul

  • Andrew and Sue are fantastic hosts very friendly and welcoming. Their home is in a very beautiful quiet area. Everything is spotless and there is everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Great breakfast too. Very highly recommended.

  • Andrew and Sue are great hosts. The room is spacious and the bed wonderfully comfortable. Breakfast of fresh fruit and muesli with toast and homemade jams was very welcome on my early starts into work. Sue introduced me to a run around the beautiful landscape of Wirksworth. I would highly recommend staying with these two lovely people

    Katie2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts and amenities including private bathroom. Quiet location with beautiful views from the room.

    Bridget2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was my 2nd time staying with Andy and Sue. Once again they made me feel very welcome to their home. It was a short trip as I was working in the area but I would definitely stay here again. Such lovely people.

    Alice2017-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew and Sue were both helpful and friendly for our short stay. Andrew picked us up from the train station and dropped us for a wedding, going above and beyond the host's duties. The house is lovely and breakfast (and the variety of homemade preserves) was great. Would definitely come back again!

  • This lovely cottage cannot be recommended highly enough! It is situated on a hill overlooking Wirksworth; a lovely little town with plenty of amenities. It made a great base from which to explore Derbyshire. The cottage itself is spotless, beautifully decorated, and very well equipped. Tiina was very helpful and, although we didn't get to meet her, provided excellent communication! If you are thinking of having a little getaway in the Peaks, then this cottage is a fantastic place to start!

    Scott2015-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was a fantastic private, peaceful and picturesque cottage. The kitchen was perfectly stocked and equipped for all our needs. Plus the Freeview TV was a wonderful touch as well! I would definitely stay again. Tina was a very helpful host and looked after us well. Thanks for a great few days.

  • Despite terrible weather over the weekend, our stay at this beautiful cottage was idyllic. The photos don't do it justice - it's amazing! I will be recommending it to many of my friends and family. Thanks, Tiina!

  • Great little cottage! Great communication and location.

    Vincent2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • A super, crisp, clean, bright and welcoming home. Washing machine/dryer and dishwasher is fabulous too. The house is warm and very well equiped and presented, in short a fantastic find in the gorgeous Derbyshire valleys.

  • We had such a great weekend here over the first May bank holiday. The cottage is so charming and with very stylish modern updates. I even enjoyed the tricky stairs! We didn't get a chance to explore Wirksworth but the wider area is full of things to do, such as Carsington Water. Many thanks to Tiina for making our stay in her lovely cottage so easy and comfortable.

    Richard2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in Wirksworth, much of it due to our stay in Tiina's immaculate cottage. The interior fittings are tasteful and of a high quality. The bed is a dream to sleep in, as is the kitchen to cook in. The setting of the cottage affords a lovely view of meadows and woods.

    Janmaarten2016-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect bolt hole and location for exploring this beautiful part of the English countryside. A really pretty cottage - small and compact but has everything you could possibly need, is beautifully furnished and has spectacular views. Tiina had sent comprehensive information prior to arrival and came over to the cottage when we got there. She was very welcoming - a lovely host - and then left us to it for the week, on hand if we needed her. Loads of things to do and see around the Peak District and we crammed a lot in but still felt very relaxed throughout. Just sitting in the garden with a book and beer, overlooking the views was wonderful. Very peaceful. Highly recommend this cottage for a weekend, week or longer stay for one person/two people. Be aware it is located up a steep hill (difficult to avoid in this area!), leaving the car at the bottom (only 100yds) and has steep stairs inside, so may not be suitable for all. We loved it! Thank you Tiina.

  • Booked 2 nights in Tilly's Cottage & when we saw how nice the place was, asked to have an extra one. We have throughly enjoyed our time in Derbyshire. The accommodation is a good base for cycling the Trails,we did the Monsal & Tissington Trails but will have to return for the High Peak Trail. Stephen was a very informative host & kindly allowed us to lock our bikes in his garage. We like quiet & TIlly's Cottage didn't disappoint. The Tansley Tavern,an easy walk of about 10 minutes, was good on both evening we visited.

  • Excellent cottage, lovely location, very clean and tidy and Stephen is a wonderful host with excellent local knowledge. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a wonderful stay! We look forward to returning. Would recommend highly to anyone.

  • Lovely retreat with a friendly host, set in a beautiful place.

    Sophie2018-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Stephen was a lovely host with lots of good advice and went out of his way to print off a local cycling trail for us. The flat was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. The steps to the flat are quite steep and it would have been nice to have had a sink in the kitchen area, but didn’t detract from a wonderful weekend. The two local pubs Stephen recommended both had amazing food and were within walking distance.

    Lorraine2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Attractions excellent value and reasonably close. Recommend The Gate Inn (also has WiFi) and the short walk taking in Lumsdale Falls (talk to Stephen).

A unique opportunity to stay in one of Derbyshire’s historic country homes; Riber Hall Manor. Riber Hall dates from the 1400’s. This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall. In 1724, the hall was split it into two halves. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with its deep history and authentic English country charm.
The hidden secret of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the famous Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall was a royalist stronghold and it is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from the hall to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. By 1724, the hall was owned by the Chappel family and two sisters divided the hall and split it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously known as a highly regarded country house hotel. Meanwhile, the other untouched side seems to have been forgotten over the years, until now. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with authentic and fascinating English country charm, plus a deep history that we love to share with our guests. Riber is a hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales, situated high on a hill overlooking Matlock; boasting some of the most dramatic views in Derbyshire.
Riber is a tiny hamlet, just two miles from the spa town of Matlock, 5 minutes by car from Cromford and Matlock Bath. Local attractions include Gullivers Kingdom, The Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth House (home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire) and Haddon Hall. Bakewell and Ashbourne are both a short car journey away.
  • If you have an interest in history and want the privilege of staying with a fabulous couple in their home then I would have no hesitation in recommending Alison and Nick's Riber Hall. Everything was top quality, from the stunning location to the fabulously preserved building dating back to the 1400s and the warm welcome received from the hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return, and have already recommended to our friends and family.

    Janette2017-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • A true delight in every possible way. From the incredible location and fascinating and beautiful home of our hosts, to the genuine and warm welcome, generous hospitality and fabulous comfort and thoughtful and caring service offered. It was a real wrench to have to leave. ( The bed was one of the best ever!) Both Alison and Nick could not have done more to make us feel both at home and valued as guests. Nothing was too much trouble. We have discovered a real gem and we can't wait to return. Thank you Alison!

    Kate2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Alison is an outstanding host topped off by a fantastic, locally sourced scrumptious breakfast. Beautiful accommodation, steeped in history. We can’t wait to go back.

    Becs2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The place is full of character and gives one quite an experience to stay. Alison and Nick were wonderful as hosts going out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable. They even put some heart shaped sweets on the pillows to make our stay even more romantic!! It makes a great base to stay to explore nearby attractions like Chatsworth House and the Peaks. Will highly recommend this place.

    Pramod2018-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my girlfriend stayed here for Valentine’s Day. Alison and Nick were very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the house and the local area. The small touches for Valentine’s Day made it very special and the breakfast was amazing!

    Jiten2018-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you were to imagine the perfect place to stay, Riber Hall would probably not be far off it. From a 15th/ 16th century manor house steeped in history, to a beautifully appointed large bedroom with great bathroom, to two of the most engaging hosts you could wish for, it's already great. Throw in an awesome breakfast, great walks out of the front door, AND a really dog-friendly attitude and you have one of the very best. There's really just one piece of essential advice we can offer. Go there.

    Kate2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Riber Hall is absolutely redolent with history and charm. You will have a warm welcome from Alison and good conversation. Do take any advice about which roads to use seriously - there are some complete hair-raisers locally! The local area is scenic, steep and interesting - ideal for a break away from, say, city life.

Come and stay in my beautiful and stylish barn in the quirky little town of Wirksworth, known as the 'gem of the peaks'. The barn is situated in a quiet conservation area, minutes from the heart of Wirksworth with outstanding views of the town and countryside. Being on the edge of the Peak District, it is an ideal base for exploring this part of England, with great walks from the doorstep . Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and many other attractions are just a short drive away.
The barn is situated in the grounds of my home, but is completely independent and detached with its own entrance. Upstairs features an attractive large open plan living space comprising of a sitting area at one end, and a well equipped kitchen and dining area the other. Downstairs there are two double bedrooms, each with ensuite shower rooms. The property offers a small outdoor terrace, ideal for having breakfast outside on a warm morning. For those with bikes there is a secure area for storage.
Crofter's Barn is up a steep hill close to the centre of Wirksworth and all its amenities, including an independent cinema and plenty of eating places. Star gaze, meditate or enjoy local fish and chips in our delightful shared folly located in the grounds, while taking in the incredible view. There is also a shared seating area which you are welcome to enjoy. Great walks from the doorstep and ideally situated for the Peak District's many attractions, with water sports on nearby Carsington Water. Wirksworth is a vibrant little market town with a selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Browse for antiques, books, toys and gifts. The town is also home to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, running seasonal weekend trains to Duffield. The annual Wirksworth Arts Festival held in September offers a mix of live performance, art trails and exhibitions.
  • great place to take a break

  • The description and photos are accurate. The barn is cute and quaint with homely decor. It was extremely clean and fresh linen provided. A short walk up and down a steep road to access a few local cafes, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the French restaurant. Thank you for hosting us, Nicola.

  • Wonderful cottage on the hill with great view, its a converted barn thats really clean and well decorated, we wish we could of lived there! The hill amd entrance is steep and tricky but worth it, contact nicola in advance if your worried and she will help! She is really nice and has great local knowledge for walks and star gazing. Looking forward to returming one day.

  • We had a lovely stay in the charming barn, which was perfect for two couples catching up. Nicola's restaurant and takeaway recommendations were spot on and Wirksworth is a very beautiful spot, well worth exploring, as is nearby Matlock. The barn was spotless when we arrived, with everything you need for a relaxing few days away from home. Would definitely recommend.

  • Lovely little cottage in very pretty Peak District village. Nicola was a fantastic host. When we arrived in the torrential rain 3 hours late, she welcomed us with a smile and showed us around. She also provided milk, tea, coffee and some prosecco! A lovely place to unwind

  • Beautiful little hideaway in the heart of the Derbyshire peaks. Nicola was the perfect hostess. Highly recommended

    Elizabeth2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really comfortable stay at Nicola's barn. We were sad to leave and wished we were staying a bit longer. Great touches like Prosecco on arrival and knowing we were travelling with a young child made sure the barn was ready a bit earlier, all really appreciated. Would definitely recommend it as a fab place to stay.

Set on Matlock Bank in the centre of Matlock the cottage built in 1742 has a garden, patio, log burner in the lounge, full kitchen and bathroom with bath and separate shower, two bedrooms with super king size double beds (one of which can be split into two single beds upon request).
Homely warm cottage with lots of attention to detail - having worked in the hospitality business all my life I try and make sure the cottage is presented with everything I need and look for when travelling.
Matlock Bank at one time was a village in its own right so there are still a number of useful shops on the street.
  • Lovely weekend in Matlock. Good location with shops, cafes and pubs very close by. Martin was great, very prompt in replying and helpful when we asked to check in a tad early.

  • Martin was extremely helpful and communicative! The house was clean, tidy and cosy; as expected. Definitely recommend :) We particularly enjoyed the extra information Martin gave us about the surrounding area! I would just say the parking would be a little difficult with two cars, but as Martin states in his messages, there is alternate parking which he explains well! Thanks Martin! :)

  • Martin sent really useful information regularly before our visit via email. All the details about the house were spot on and the welcome of lights, heat and wine in the cottage were fabulous.

  • Lovely and clean cottage. Extremely peaceful, yet close to the heart of Wirksworth. We stayed for a couple of nights for a wedding in Derbyshire and couldn't have asked for a better place. Sigalit was a great host and gave very clear instructions. Would definitely visit again!

    Oliver2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Property just as described by Sigalit. Very cosy and clean.

    Martin2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Stemples is a lovely cottage and Sigalit is a perfect host. It's tucked away down a quiet side street, so it's super quiet and relaxing. For a traditional cottage it is pretty spacious, ideal for a couple, with a decent sized well appointed kitchen and beautiful bedroom. And the shower is excellent! Wirksworth has plenty of good food and drink options and is a great base for exploring the peak district. We had a great stay and would recommend this place to friends.

    Chris2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • I booked the cottage for my Mum and Stepdad for their 20th wedding anniversary 'honeymoon' and they had a lovely stay. They said it was spotlessly clean and very cosy in a lovely setting by the Church.

  • This cottage is truly a hidden gem away from the crazy world. Located right on the edge of the peak district, so easy and quick access to the many sights. The village pubs and restaurants were super friendly with great company and food. Personally I just loved the walking around the village and nearby countryside with the dogs. There is actually a lot to see in this village alone so no need to get in the car at all. I will be back again as I would love to do the 11 mile walk to Duffiled and then take the train ride back as I didn't get the chance this time.

  • The cottage was lovely, spotlessly clean and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

  • A beautiful place to stay in a beautiful setting. You'll leave wishing you could stay for longer. The stone work on the house is breathtaking, our girls said I should ask Stephen if we could move in! Having a rural home in France ourselves, made us feel at home. We will be back. Its clean, presentable and Stephen is a lovely character and a great host. Fridge was stocked with bread, yogurts, cheese etc - a nice touch. Oh and the goats are so friendly, not the type that run at you butting you with their heads (yes ive experienced that type too!). My advise, book a stay now before I convince Stephen to let us move in!

  • We loved our stay at Stephen's place - they have been mentioned previously in reviews but the little one loved being able to see the goats in their pen, and the food/drink left for us was also a really thoughtful touch. The place itself is lovely and secluded, and had a really nice modern and unique feel to it - highly recommended if wanting to get away from it all, or have a base to visit surrounding Peak District areas.

  • We had a great stay in this lovely, comfortable cottage. Spotlessly clean, well equipped and spacious.Setting was very peaceful and also well located for getting around. Stephen was a great host answering all our questions before we booked and during our stay. A very thorough explanation of where things were in the cottage and we immediately felt at home there. Can fault nothing , we'd recommend and would love to return.

Tower Cottage is a detached, 3 storey stone cottage for up to 4 guests in the heart of Wirksworth with its rich history and beautiful situation. The cottage has a double and a single bedroom (with pull out bed) and a shower room. There is a fully fitted kitchen and a sitting room with log burning stove. There is a patio garden, bike store and terraced gardens around the house with beautiful hill views. Sorry, no pets.
When we first set our eyes on the cottage we fell in love with it. We christened it Tower Cottage as everyone who has seen it, says it's like a little tower... which it is. The cottage is in a beautiful & quiet location tucked away up 'The Dale', which is one of the oldest parts of Wirksworth. It is rare to find such peace in a town dwelling, with virtually no traffic in the vicinity and yet just minutes away, the activities and amenities of a bustling market town. We don't know much about the history of the cottage yet but it was probably a miner's or quarry man's cottage, like many of those around it. It has been lovingly restored to modern standards, with double glazing & good insulation, whilst retaining original features. We have decorated the cottage with a mix of old and new and reflected the colours and images of nature and the stunning Derbyshire Dales and Peaks. Please note the second bedroom is on the ground floor next to the living room and the main bedroom is 2 flights of stairs away on the second floor and so children sleeping downstairs will be some way from you. The second flight of stairs are steep and have a tight turn and so may prove tricky if you have mobility issues. Wirksworth is famous for its quirky alleyways, jittys and ginnels - a network of walkways that run between the houses, perched perilously on the edges of the old quarry workings. Many say 'The Dale' area reminds them of a Cornish fishing village but without the sea. So, come and visit our cottage and explore for yourselves and let the stresses of life just slip away!
The market town of Wirksworth ('The Gem of The Peak') is of considerable historical interest and is a popular location for the exploration of the Peak District. Its uniqueness and friendliness make it one of the most appealing and fascinating towns in the area. There are fabulous walks from the door, cycle trails, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall, individual local shops, farmers market on the first Saturday of each month, restaurants, tea rooms, bistro, several public houses, an independent cinema and a heritage centre. Every year at Spring Bank holiday, Wirksworth holds its annual Well Dressing ceremonies and carnival. In September the town celebrates the talents of local, national and international artists, along with performers of all descriptions, when it holds its prestigious annual Arts Festival. Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway and operates passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel rail cars. An eclectic range of events run throughout the year in Wirksworth. Many of these take place at the Town Hall but also at the Star Disc (a representation in granite of the Northern Constellation), on a hill in Stoney Wood, near the cottage. With easy access to attractions in the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District, Wirksworth is also convenient for Cromford, Matlock, Ashbourne, Buxton and Derby.
  • Me and my boyfriend had a lovely weekend at the cottage. The place was beautiful, as described and the helpful guidebook Karen has put together was a great help when deciding where to go for a pub dinner. The kitchen was great to cook in and we made a casserole on one of the evenings with the help of the fully equip kitchen! The log fire is beautiful and the fairy lights outside are a lovely touch. We would definitely recommend and will be returning in the summer to see what the Peak District has to offer in the warmer months!

The cottage has been decorated to a very high standard with a very comfy sofa and bed! It's close to quaint towns to explore and near lots of great walks in the Peaks. Communication was brilliant throughout, the host really went above and beyond what we expected in every aspect. The handy information pack and walking maps were super useful! We had the best weekend in Katie's property and would love to stay again. I couldn't recommend enough!

This yurt is fab! We stayed in mid December and we were really toasty warm. Four of us stayed and there was plenty of room. Rachel greeted us with a pint of fresh milk from the farm which was lovely. Pub right over the road was really convenient. We wish we could have stayed longer and would recommend it to anyone after something a bit different.
