Just booked in Detroit

Walk to Belle Isle, 6 min drive to downtown! A spacious 1BR corner loft overlooking the river and two parks. Lots of light and beautiful view. Convenient location off Jefferson Ave and Detroit's Riverwalk. Gated parking for one car. First time visitors to Detroit and city regulars will enjoy using my loft as a base of operations. I've been a contributing author to Wildsam Field Guides, an eclectic guidebook publisher, and have great recommendations for most cravings in this unique city.
I have a few spaces in Detroit. If this loft is unavailable, check one of my other cool spots: https://www.airbnb.com/users/6405993/listings This loft is beautiful, open, and full of light. A perfect retreat in Detroit. I grew up in Montana, lived in India for a few years, and ran a journalism startup in Detroit called Jaunt, so I have decorated my place with remnants of my travels. I also contributed to a Detroit guidebook called WildSam Field Guides, so I can help you put together a good itinerary or fill any holes you might have. I mostly live on my sailboat during the summer and I teach Marine Science on a sailing school vessel. The loft is all open except for the bathroom. The bedroom is separated by a wall without a ceiling. The kitchen has all the basic essentials and utensils plus coffee, tea, cereal, oatmeal, etc. for breakfast. I have an HDTV with Blu-Ray, Roku, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and an HD OTR antennae for NBC, ABC, FOX, etc. Then there's the bed. Queen and super comfortable - I splurged on the bed because good sleep is really important to me. For extra guests, there is a queen pull-out sofa in the common area. The apartment can accommodate up to four (two in each queen bed) but you're starting to get a little cramped. I will decline requests for greater than four people unless you have a special circumstance. There are two A/C units: one window-mounted right next to the bed and the other in the living room space. They do a good job on the loft 90% of the time, but if the sun is glaring and it is scorching hot, they won't be able to create the refrigerated A/C frigidity we are used to with central air. The bedroom unit works perfectly if you shut the door to the common area. In the winter, you can turn the heat up as much as you like and make it toasty warm.
I moved here in October, 2014 from the nearby West Village area where there are a few great new restaurants, like Craft Work, Detroit Vegan Soul, and Red Hook Coffee. The loft is on the Riverwalk, which is a bike/walk trail connecting you to downtown and Eastern Market via the Dequindre Cut, a converted rail line that runs off of the Riverwalk. I am also walking distance to the Belle Isle bridge. The building is kitty corner to a Coast Guard base, a U.S. Federal building, and the offices of a private security firm. The streets are lit and other residents of the building are frequently coming and going. I have always felt that the area around where I live is quite safe.
  • Thane was great. Friendly, knowledgeable, prompt. Place was wonderful. High ceilings, great light. Lots of interesting stuff.

  • We are regular visitors to Detroit. Finding new territories and enjoying the different styles of neighborhoods, and living spaces is what makes the airbnb experience so unique. Iron Street was as "Banksy" in person as it was in the photos. Thane...you did an awesome job my friend, with the art-deco, Just walking up the stairs and down the brick hallways put us right in the heart of Greenwich Village, Downtown Capetown South Africa, and London all while walking down the hall to Visit Miles Davis..All rolled into one experience. The Visitor-Contact, was a polite woman who knew a lot about everything. ..which was a great amenity in itself. Thane was quite accessible and the loft was impeccably clean and neat. Great heat, plenty of linens and one of the Best 2 pillows, I have ever laid my head on. Only a few miles from everything,UBER was definitely the way to go. Heck, there's even a gym, barbershop and hair salon right downstairs. Areas of opportunity to really have made a better experience, would be to have more modern Television equipment. Yes, there was a "working" television, but it took quite an effort to operate it and get even the most local television stations. (4 channels just didn't cut it, and ROKU...was non-existant. The home is so nice, that we wanted to just stay there and work and watch tv...which was part of our work...and we had major issues until the Host-Contact person came to assist to find us 4 channels. Laundry could not be done, because the washing machines that are available in the building are obsolete, rusted and not very sanitary. This isn't an issue if you are only staying a couple of nights, but I would bring extra garments if you plan to stay more than a few days. Last but not least, the walls and flooring in this unit are virtually paper thin, and we could hear phone conversations, of the neighbors above us and below us. We could hear every conversation, every laugh, every cough, every Song, every toilet flush a as late as 2am, and as early as 3am. We were deprived of sleep every night. Unless you are a party animal, a heavy sleeper who has plenty of clothes, and a great imagination (who doesn't like tv), I would not recommend stay here until some of these things are addressed. I can't say enough that Thane was awesome and his efforts to make us feel comfortable under all of these circumstances deserve much applause because had it not been for his professionalism and gracious efforts, we would have left. Instead, we made it work, Because we really think none of these things were in Thanes control. He totally made his loft a super cool hang out. And if it were a way to ask the neighbors to quiet it down a little, we'd definitely stay again. Because of THANE.

  • Thane's airy and spacious loft in Detroit was the perfect place to stay for the long weekend. Thane was a gracious and accommodating host. He gave us excellent recommendations for sightseeing & dining. All within comfortable driving distance from his place. Also- there were plenty of spaces to park near the front of the building which was a huge plus. Thanks for everything, Thane!

  • Great space. Great experience!

  • Beautiful loft with an awesome view

    Anthony2018-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful apartment! The place is fantastic indeed. It has everything that you might need during your stay. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Thane is as incredible as his apartment. He sent us this list of recommendations of restaurants and places to visit so we could plan our visit. The communication with him was all the time fantastic. He gave me very clear instructions on how to get the keys and responded immediately when I tried to contact him after we checked in. Overall, it was a wonderful visit. Thank you very much, Thane!

    Teresa2016-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome time at Thane's! Karen and he were fantastic hosts, met us on arrival, and took great care! We would recommend this place to anyone, great views of the river and a quick ride to downtown nightlife. The loft was roomy and felt like home. Thanks!!!

  • I loved my stay here! They were so welcoming and made sure I had a good experience. Since it was so cold I loved staying at the loft. I would definitely stay here again. The only thing is the thin walls and the people above, but that's nothing they can control.

A beautiful, open, airy loft space housed within a completely renovated 1926 industrial building. Centrally located on Woodward Avenue, steps away from the Amsterdam stop of the newly-installed QLINE in New Center. Hop on, and be anywhere you'd like in New Center, Midtown, or Downtown in minutes. Relax, you're home.
This is a modern loft apartment housed within a completely renovated 1926 building that originally housed graphic artists for General Motors, and other companies. Designed by famed-Detroit architect Albert Kahn, you'll notice the signature art-deco front-facade and incredible lobby of the building. All the character of the loft is still intact, from the concrete floors, brick exterior wall, and the mushroom columns Albert Kahn was known for. Home includes a large kitchen, front load washer and dryer, incredibly fast internet with wifi and one bedroom with a queen-sized bed. This building is incredibly peaceful, quiet, and relaxing; while being just blocks away from anything you'd want to do in the city. Kitchen includes gas stove/oven, stainless steel sink, refrigerator, toaster, pots, pans, coffee maker, and any other utensils you need to call Detroit home for a few days. You'll find a single bedroom (this was originally a studio unit, but has been converted into a completely-walled one bedroom unit). Beautifully comfortable queen bed, small dresser, and chair. The main bathroom includes a subway tile shower/tub, sink, and any towels and amenities you'll need to make your stay perfect. Awesomely comfy white cotton sheets are included in the bedroom. The living room includes a couch (can be used for extra sleeping space, but isn't a pull-out), coffee table, and two chairs. 50" HDTV is hooked up to an Apple TV with Netflix. Outdoor space includes a small patio (which you'll enter from) with two bistro chairs and table. Enjoy the sunny back-alley of the building with a drink of your choice from the fridge. Local spots within walking/biking distance include the incredibly beautiful art-deco Fisher and Albert Kahn buildings; Midtown Shopping (Shinola, Willys, Nora, Hugh, Carhartt, Fellow Barber, City Bird, Nest, and more); the mid-century gardens and campus at Wayne State, and more. Local attractions include the city and public art, Belle Isle with its beaches, waterpark, Albert Kahn designed conservatory and aquarium, and trails. The world is your oyster. Restaurants nearby including fast food, Northern Lights Lounge, Falafill, Dangerously Delicious Pies, City Wings, Motor City Brewing Works, Jolly Pumpkin, and more. The loft is all yours while you're here. Enjoy, relax, and hang out. I prefer text and AirBnB message for communication. Taking photos during your stay? Make sure you #thatdetroitloft.
Awesome location right on Woodward at the Midtown/New Center border. Just a few blocks either way to a ridiculous amount of inspiration, character, activities, and restaurants. Take in the Detroit Institute of Arts, or check out the art-deco skyscrapers of New Center.
  • Jesse's loft was just perfect! It's conveniently located in Midtown Detroit, close to all the coolest spots. The loft itself was the perfect size for my boyfriend and me. We were able to make breakfast on a few of the days during our stay; Jesse had a fully equipped kitchen. The decór was minimalistic and super chic- totally my style! I loved all the little details paying homage to Detroit. Don't even get me started on the bed, the few night I stayed there were some of the best sleep I've had all month :) I would highly recommend Jesse's loft if you're ever in the Detroit area!

    Michelle2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jesse was an awesome and attentive host. He responded to all of my messages promptly and the house was explained exactly as it was. The house was beautiful and was decorated so cute! Definitely made our experience in Detroit that much more special. Highly recommend.

    Liz2016-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend at Jesse's place- everything was perfect!

    Andrea2016-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Jesse was a great host yet again. His place is a unique beauty in Detroit. I would recommend anyone stay here. I know I will probably stay here again myself. :)

  • Great spot to stay with lots to do and see!

  • This was such a cool place to be in. Beautiful light, a great workspace, comfortable room and a great place to relax and listen to some records. We really enjoyed this space.

    Jackie2017-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was clean, comfortable, and well located. It had everything we needed. Although we never met in person, we had easy and quick communications with Jesse. We had a great time in Detroit and would recommend the loft to friends and family.

  • Solid, beautiful loft space with tasteful decor. The host was very helpful and supportive via communications. The location is busy and central, but the loft itself is quiet and comfortable. It was a great environment to get work done, which I had to do on this trip.

Welcome to Woodbridge Farm! ...a friendly, spacious & quiet neighborhood, close to all of the happenings in/around Detroit. Enjoy the newly renovated 2nd floor of our 1884 Historic house. The apt is cozy w/ yummy architectural/design details.
WOODBRIDGE FARM: We love it here! ...very special and unique. The street is filled with Urban Pioneers and creative types; artists, musicians, gardeners, and makers. You will find that most homes sit on larger pieces of land, giving Woodbridge Farms a unique feel. Many of the houses in the area have undergone impressive renovations, and for the others the renovation is underway. We have completed the interior renovations of this home, and soon we will start renovation on the house next door, which we also own. From the outside they look a little rough, but keep coming back and you will be able to witness the transformation! US & OUR RENOVATION PROJECTS: We are longtime Detroiter’s. We are committed to the City, and we are so happy to have been a part of the revitalization of Detroit. We love old homes …and we love to renovate them! Zac is a general contractor, and Renee is an Interior Designer. Together, we have been restoring old homes in Woodbridge for the last 15 years. LOCATION: You are a short walk/drive from Detroit’s midtown area, where you will find a variety of restaurants and shopping. Both Corktown and Downtown are within a few miles. It is a very quiet neighborhood, conveniently located to all major freeways. Lots of parking. THE LISTING: Newly renovated, with the best of care. Open plan kitchen, dining, and living. King size bed with fine linens and nice pillows. The bedroom windows are opposite the sun rise. It is a very peaceful space, bright, open and fresh. We are sure you will love the apartment. It is clean and private. We have an office on the first floor that is completely separate from the space. Zac is typically there M-F 9-5 should you need to fax ,copy or have any questions. If you have any special requests we will do our best to accommodate you, if given a bit of notice. We live 2 blocks away from the apartment should anything urgent come up.
  • This place is even more gorgeous than the pictures if you can believe it. Centrally located in Detroit it's not that far from anywhere. I couldn't think of one thing that didn't impress me, and we love Taco the cat, he's such a charmer. I'd recommend this to anyone and I definitely hope to stay again.

    Chris2016-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • This Air BnB was exceptional and Zac and Renee were extraordinary hosts in their prompt replies and friendliness. They know Detroit so well and are happy to offer their recommendations for favorite spots around the city. Beautiful, comfortable space, would stay here again in a heartbeat (and I hope to have the chance to!)

    Katie2018-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time exploring Detroit from Zac and Renee's place. (If you want to walk to the shops/restaurants nearby in Midtown, be prepared to cross over the highway.) We'd stay here again!

    Emily And Alex2018-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Zac and Renee responded right away with an informative and welcoming message. Their communication was very pleasant and friendly. The check in/check out was flexible and very straightforward. The space is absolutely gorgeous with lots of natural light and open space. Very comfortable + relaxing and such a cool location in Detroit! I love the work Zac and Renee are doing in the neighborhood and I will definitely be staying here for a getaway again!

    Madeline2016-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our week at Zac and Renee's place. They have done such a wonderful job renovating this unique Detroit house, and were super accommodating if we ever had questions. We are from Mi, have lived right downtown Detroit, but if you aren't familiar w/the city we could see how this location could be easily misunderstood. Don't worry, it is very safe, and many of the houses are being quickly renovated/restored (even the ones that don't look like it from the outside). Detroit is such an amazing community of people and new developments, and this is the perfect place to stay for the Detroit experience!

    Mallory2016-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • We drove down from Toronto to explore Detroit over a long weekend. We absolutely loved this place! Beyond the lovely decor and cozy feel, the house is very conveniently located. We were only a 5-10 minute drive away from most of the landmarks on our list, and we discovered some additional ones thanks to Zac and Renee. The area is still in the process of being revitalized, but the neighbourhood feels safe. We recommend it for anyone looking for a central place to land in Detroit!

    Anne2016-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful gem hidden on the second floor of a victorian home. We absolutely loved staying here. It was clean, simple, and well-organized. It had little in it but at the same time everything we needed. We would 100% recommend this to anyone spending a few nights in/near midtown, going to a show or checking out some galleries. Can't wait to have a reason to go back.

    Harry2016-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent host. Zac and Renee made my stay very easy and their place looked exactly like the photos.. The place was very clean and roomy. I'd visit again for sure.

Upstairs from Slows BBQ and on the same block as Astro, Sugar House and Gold Cash Gold, this two-bedroom neighborhood inn provides an immersive, welcoming travel experience in the heart Corktown, Detroit's oldest neighborhood.
A small-scale, design-focused Detroit inn, Honor & Folly is reminiscent of the way folks used to travel: a few beds above the village pub or restaurant. You'll be immersed in this historical neighborhood that's also at the forefront of the city's current revitalization. Featured in Martha Stewart Living, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit (made the 40 "Best Food Lovers Hotels in America" Awards), The Globe and Mail, Details Magazine, Conde Nast Traveller UK, and Afar. With a prime Corktown location, you'll be situated smack into the middle of one of the most thriving, charming and walk-able neighborhoods in the city—right across from the city’s most beautiful icon of urban decay: the old train station. Admire it up-close or enjoy the beautiful view through the big living room windows—you can even see the Ambassador Bridge! Sharing a block with Slows, Astro, Gold Cash Gold and Sugar House, Honor & Folly also offers plenty of other nearby bars, shops and restaurants within a quick stroll (I provide guests with a list of my favorite recommendations), as well as easy access to downtown. The well-appointed space is decorated with goods made by Detroit and Midwest-based designers and artisans—much of which is also for sale. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed and its own bathroom, for a capacity of four people, with additional possible sleeping arrangements for kids. From time to time, Honor & Folly is used as a community space, hosting workshops or events, but you will have the space entirely to yourself during your stay. OTHER AMENITIES: outdoor balcony | local design | fully stocked cooking kitchen | potential to arrange custom catering, private dinner parties, etc.
  • Honor and Folly could not be a lovelier place to stay. I arrived before my friends and got to enjoy a few hours all to myself. The apartment was clean, inviting, really spacious, and as beautiful as you would imagine from the photos. Great stuff right outside the front door, too. My friends and I are local, but this was such a welcome respite from our everyday lives. I hope to stay again!

    Lisa2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Loved being able to walk downstairs and enjoy a great meal and nice beverages!

    Bryan2017-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing location, right between Slows and Sugar House! The space itself is very clean and cute--beautiful windows overlooking the street and a pretty large back deck. The beds were cozy and the kitchen had everything we needed. We'd stay again for a weekend splurge.

    Jessica2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Meghan's place perfectly met our needs! You simply cannot beat the location!! As others mentioned in previous reviews, you are right in the center of what Corktown has to offer! Countless restaurants, bars, shops, etc on the same block and close by. Really close to downtown and other areas of Detroit as well- such as Eastern Market district and West Village. We enjoyed it all & were so happy to have a place so close to it all as our "home base" for the weekend. There is a bike share right around the corner as well making that another great option to get around. The apartment itself was immaculately clean and the interior decoration seemed very carefully curated. We really enjoyed the space! Very open feel & lots of room + 2 full bathrooms and even a back deck outside. Meghan made sure to check on us during our stay and communication was easy and effective. Would definitely stay again when visiting Detroit and would recommend to anyone considering it. Thanks again for everything, Meghan!

    Lindsay2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Best place to stay in Detroit. Love it.

    Gabe2017-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • From my first inquiry on the listing Meghan was extremely responsive. The place was even better than described and we had the best time. I hosted a group of 8 clients for a pop-up salon before Fash Bash and the space was plenty roomy enough for 8 women to get hair/makeup done and move about with ease. We didn't stay the night there so I can speak to the comfort of beds but the living space was incredibly charming and clean! We will be renting avian hopefully in the near future. Thanks for everything, Meghan!

    Julia2016-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Meghan's place is really nice. It's on a lively block with restaurants & bars right outside the door. It's across from the old train station which we found fascinating. It's easy to get to and a fine location for exploring the rest of the city.

    Amy2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beautiful weekend at honor and folly. It was so nice to be unplugged yet still so centrally located. The place was pristine and we felt very safe during our stay. It was a welcomed comfort at the end out our daily adventures. We stayed with our two children aged 1 and 6 and they were both also very happy and comfortable during our stay there. The restaurants nearby were also a treat, the coffee at Astros is unbelievably good. Meghan was a gracious host and her suggestions for our time there were absolutely perfect. We can't wait to return!

Many of the building on this block were part of his film production complex that produced 7,000+ films. This building and neighborhood continues to be a welcoming place for industrial design thinking. Henry Ford invented the Model T two blocks away, Motown's Hitsville 8 blocks away, Shinola headquarters 5 blocks away, and the list goes on…
  • The place is in a good location, safe. LOT'S of light. I would recommend a sleeping/eye mask if you'd like to sleep in or are sensitive to light pollution. Also maybe some earplugs. There was some rail traffic, neighbors and a dog that kept me up the first night. We moved to the smaller room the next night and I slept much better! It's clean, kinda feels like a movie set.

    Tallulah2017-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second time at the loft's and it's a cool experience, especially for our work group to stay together. Only warning is that it's SUPER bright at night with street lights and in the morning the minute the sun comes up. Love love love those windows, but I don't love not having curtains.

    Rachel2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Interior as pictured, large space, well maintained.

    Annie2017-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • The place had really cool vibes and was perfect for hanging out. Unfortunately we stayed during a terrible snowstorm so we did not get to adventure too far from the apartment. Thankfully the place heated up very nicely & we enjoyed making dinner and spent the night watching movies in the giant bean bag chair.

  • Nice and enjoyable experience.

    Stephanie2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kyle's apartment is lovely. The apartment has high ceilings and huge windows. It is bright, airy, and very spacious. There is so much space it was very easy to roll out my travel yoga mat and practice in the morning light. A real treat! If you are a business traveler, you might want to bear that in mind that the apartment does not have a good work space. There is no desk or a table that could function as a desk. Overall, the furniture was on the shabby side with some stains and fraying that made it hard to relax and feel at home. But, again, the apartment is spectacular, and Kyle is an excellent host. He is very quick to response to questions and concerns. The toilet was broken when I arrived, and he send someone immediately to fix it! So attentive and speedy! He made checkin and checkout a breeze! Thank you, Kyle for an excellent stay!

Fresh Gothic-Victorian nearby the Museum of African American History, Wayne State, Third Man Records, Shinola. Sfumato Fragrances NOW OPEN in the garden level, perfume shop and low-key scented cocktail bar (search for the latest Lonely Planet article). Selden Standard across the street. 9 min walk to QLINE (approx 10 min to Downtown on the streetcar). 10 min walk to U of M Ann Arbor shuttle bus. MoGo bike rental 1 block away. Rocket Fiber gigabit internet speed. Sonos controls in wall speakers.
This 1880s Gothic-Victorian Mansion was renovated in 2015. Everything is new, clean and modern. There is a queen sized bed and an air mattress. The space can definitely accommodate 3-4 people, but it’ll be cozy (i.e., it’s a Studio). There is ample closet space, a full kitchen, washer/dryer and a private bathroom. The space gets great light. In addition to the low-key cocktail bar in the garden level, Detroit Clothing Circle clothing shop downstairs offers curated racks of clothing with styles that won't blend in with the herd.
We have a great location in Midtown Detroit, many great bars, restaurants, and shops are within walking distance. Popular nearby attractions include the DIA, MOCAD, Chartreuse, Jolly Pumpkin, Hop Cat, Motor City Brewing Works, Great Lakes Coffee and Whole Foods.
  • A clean and bright little haven that is so close to so many great restaurants and shops! I would stay here again.

  • Sarah's apartment is exactly as advertised, spacious, clean, and everything you need. The neighborhood was my favorite part with so many cool restaurants and bars in short walking distance. Sarah was easy to communicate with and on the ball with any questions we had. 5 star stay. Would definitely stay again.

  • Sarah's spot is super, super close to cute shops, many highly rated restaurants and awesome neighborhoods to wander. Plus, we were able to let ourselves in via her instructions, so our delayed travel didn't add even more stress to the trip - we knew we could arrive whenever. Thanks again, Sarah!

  • The apartment was exactly as represented--clean, sunny, and in a great location. Sarah was helpful and responded to a few minor issues quickly. We were very comfortable for an extended stay, and really enjoyed all of the nearby restaurants, coffee shops, and stores.

My husband, Matt, and I have a lovely flat in Hamtramck that has been restored to its original 1920s charm. Our style is intentional and warm, and decorations include things that we have collected through the years that have meaning to us. Equipped with a queen size bed in a spacious bedroom it is perfect for a couple or close friends! There’s plenty of room for an air mattress too. The living room has a couch, eating table, chair, and bar with stools for enjoying food and beverages. We provide a TV with Netflix access, games, and books for when you feel like relaxing after a long day of hanging out in the city. The brightness and vintage style of the kitchen will warm your heart. You will love cooking in this space, not to mention you will be provided with any cooking supplies you need. Lastly, the bathroom is large and clean with a vintage claw foot tub for a tranquil bath or shower. For longer stays, you are welcome to our washer and dryer in the basement.
Hamtramck is touted as ‘The World in 2 Square Miles.’ Located directly in the center of Detroit, it is a diverse city that has its roots in the rise of the auto industry. Anyone who loves history will appreciate the beauty and architecture that still exists in Detroit and Hamtramck. Originally a hub for Polish immigrants Hamtramck has maintained its eastern European flair and guests will find excellent Polish restaurants, markets with delicious pierogi, keilbasa, and stuffed cabbage along with a Polish Art Center equipped with treasured artifacts and souvenirs. Hamtramck also has some excellent Bengali, Indian, Iraqi and Yemeni food! Welcome to our 101 year-old home in the historic Arden Park Neighborhood! Located near major freeways, you can reach downtown/mid-town or the suburbs in minutes. It's all the tranquility of Detroit's historic beauty with access to everything the city has to offer! Come enjoy a homebrew in our cozy back yard in the summer and our warm wood-burning stove in the winter. We've put a lot of work into renovating our place and hope you'll appreciate our labor of love in progress!
You'll stay in one of our lovely second floor rooms. Its gets plenty of light, has a television (with a retro gaming station if you're into that) and pretty much exclusive access to the second floor bathroom. Bear in mind our home is a 101 years old and still a work in progress - please mind our dust and let us know if you have any concerns. Summer: Given the age of our home there is no Air Conditioning. While your room has a ceiling and window fan it is on the second floor and can be warm.
We live in the historic Arden Park neighborhood. If you get time have a walk around to see some of the amazing mansions nearby. It's very safe and you will have access to street and/or behind the house parking. The major freeways are very close making travel to downtown/midtown/suburbs quick and convenient.
  • My friend and I were really only looking for a place to spend the night, not anything extra, and this was perfect. I appreciated the typed out notes about the place and there were even suggestions for food. Their dog, Mississippi, was so kind and lovable!

  • We had great couple of nights in Justin's and Alana's beautiful guest room/house. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. It was easy to communicate with the hosts. Definitely worth the price! I would recommend. :)

  • Alana and Justin are great hosts - a wonderful stay in their project-of-love to refurbish a family home in Detroit. Very quiet and restful stay. Their jovial dog is a happy bonus!

    Alex2017-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lot of fun to stay with Alana, Justin, and Mississippi!

    Anne2017-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Justin and Alana made me feel at home from the very start of my stay. Justin and Alana are both incredibly welcoming and accommodating people, and I really enjoyed my time with them. They provided ample guidance on where to go and what to do in the city on my relatively short stay. I will definitely look for availability in their home again on my next visit to Detroit. Their beautiful house is just minutes from downtown Detroit by car. The house itself is a treasure. It has retained all of its early 20th century charm as Justin and Alana have worked to make some very successful renovations. They clearly care for the history and well-being of their community and are a tremendous credit to the city.

    Michael2016-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • I booked the room for a last minute trip to Detroit and the host was absolutely amazing. Justin contacted me a few minutes after I confirmed my reservation and provides excellent communication throughout the entrire stay. Once I arrived to beautiful home, I was introduced to everyone and Justin provided a wonderful tour. The home was absolutely amazing and there was a cozy/comfortable ambiance. The room was clean and beautifully decorated. The hosts provided a welcome letter and additional information about the area. I enjoyed the short stay and I would definitely return. Thank you so much for making my experience in Detroit memorable.

Our peaceful and comfortable loft is located in the heart of Corktown, Just 5 minutes from Downtown Detroit, and 5 minutes to the Ambassador Bridge to Canada. Our loft provides an ambiance and an amazing view of the City of Detroit.
The Loft is beautiful. Lightly decorated with burgandy cement floors, newly remodeled kitchen and 2 bathrooms. A full bathroom is located on the first floor and a walk-in shower is located on the second floor. The building is quiet. The unit includes purple sofa and loveseat, 2 big flat screen TV's , brand new bed, and linen. The space can accommodate up to 4 people. 2 can sleep upstairs. An air bed is provided for lower level if needed.
The neighborhood is seemingly quiet. The loft is located directly in between Corktown and Southwest Detroit. From the outside, the building appears to be an old warehouse, but inside the building is decorated with hardwood floors, and an beautiful structure.
  • Me and my friends enjoyed our stay at Amara's loft. We were allowed to check in a little earlier than what we communicated prior. Her assistant, Carmella, greeted us and was just was finishing up cleaning. She was very pleasant. Due to our early arrival the towels and comforters weren't ready but she brought them back that evening clean. The location was great. We loved the building, it's wood floors and brick walls. The lower level of loft is very spacious. There was an air mattress available for use. It was a bit warm, as there is no air conditioning, but it didn't bother us, we were comfortable. Also, the noise wasn't an issue for us either. The only issue was the wifi. I did ask if there was wifi available and was told that there was, yet it wasn't functioning. It wasn't that important to us but it would have been nice to have it. I would definitely book another stay here. We had a wonderful time.

    Shannon2015-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is nice and basically what was described. The apartment we stayed in was not the same as the one pictured, but was the same layout. The floors are concrete not hardwood, and there are two purple cloth couches, not the one leather couch pictured. These differences weren't really that important though. The apartment is in good condition and the cleaning lady Camella was very nice. The people before us checked out late so she was there cleaning when we arrived at our scheduled 3pm arrival, but that didn't cause much of a disturbance. There was some food left in the fridge and some personal items in the closets and bathroom, but still generally clean. The location is good, though not really in walking distance of much. You'll want a car, or you'll be ubering a lot. You could walk about 20 minutes to Corktown but it's not really an area I'd want to walk through alone or at night. The apartment description clearly says there is no Air Conditioning, but I failed to notice this. That's obviously not Faustine or Camella's fault, and I learned that many apartments in the area don't have central air. Since I'm from warmer climes I just assumed there would be AC, my fault, but thought others might want to be aware of that. In sum, the apartment was a good, inexpensive option, though I'd think twice about renting it during the hot months as sleeping can be a little uncomfortable.

    Sean2015-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • All fine. Faustine was helpfull and friendly. Photos of the flat realistic. nice flat. All clean. But be aware that you stay in a not soundproof room. Very thin wooden ceeling, floor, walls to neighbours. Can be very noisy at night, if the neighbour is walking around above your head or people next door have a party. feels as if you share the room with them. We left one night earlier, others might be luckier oder less sensitive as far as noise is concerned. wifi didn't work. but again: apart from that - all good.

    Peter2014-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Faustine was very helpful and easygoing. The loft is room and very close to downtown via car. I would book again.

    MTkalla2014-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • I was Amara first guest and this was now my second stay there. It was like coming in town staying with a friend. It was last min and as always she was accommodating to the late hours i got into town. The place was clean and well kept and she even had water in the fridge. The building and parking are safe and secure. And i love the hardwoods and timbers of the place. There was no AC but she offers a fan that keeps the place cool and comfortable. She has wifi and a few flat screens and even a computer if you need to look up something. 2 guest could stay comfy with a guest mattress and have separate baths. I will be back again.

    Jason2015-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place once inside. Make sure you request toiletries. No issues!

    Kim2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very quick with responses. No issues getting checked in and settled. Solid spot with a ton of light. Really a great value!

    Justin2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay! I was in Detroit for a weekend, getting in early on a Saturday, and Amara went out of her way to accommodate my schedule, making sure that the place was accessible earlier than she expected. The place itself was nice and clean, fresh linens/towels were provided. It was located close to Downtown Detroit and other places of interest so accessibility was no issue. It was easy to find and navigate, felt safe, and folks in the building were friendly. I met a few folks that were artists or interesting folks in general, and that just added to the good vibes.

Few minutes to Caesar's Casino and downtown You are a few minutes ' walk of the Detroit Riverside Park。 My listings close to nightlife, public transport, suitable for family activities. Because of location, landscape, and you will fall in love with my listings. My houses are ideal for couples, solo travelers adventure, business travellers, families with young children.

  • Great stay - clean, lovely decor, easy check in, good parking. TV was a bit tricky to figure out (mostly in Chinese, only one channel in English) but we found the Netflix app and were able to log into our account, which was perfect. Would definitely stay again!

    Genevieve2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • For the most part, good. There was a fragrence diffuser, though, and even though we disabled it for the length of our stay, the smell lingered--including in my stuff once I left. That was my only real complaint, though. Otherwise it was much as expected.

    Jordana2018-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. I can understand many of the comments about the area appearing to be run down, but I think that it's just that the buildings are old. The interior is newly renovated and very clean. I went with my husband and son and felt very safe in the area. It is walking distance to the water which is beautiful. Shiyun was an accommodating host, quick to respond to our questions. Plus, he provided some fruits and cookies for breakfast which was a very thoughtful bonus. I would definitely stay here again.

Hello! Our home is an 1890 Victorian mansion that we purchased in 2012 and lovingly renovated over three years using a team of local craftspeople and myself. This space is a quirky 1 bedroom, 1 bath garden level loft with much of its original character preserved. Located in the heart of Midtown just one block from 15+ bars and restaurants, DMC, Shinola and way more. The space is designed with leisure stays in mind but also capable of accommodating business travelers comfortably. Parking included
The space features a custom cherry old-growth wood bar along with handbuilt cherry countertops. The bathroom has its own interesting character equipped with the biggest shower I've ever installed as a builder. The apartment is stocked with coffee, has an Apple TV and high-speed WiFi and dart board. The space is equipped with a modern heating system and natural cooling from the original stone walls. It’s very comfortable year round.
Midtown is an exploding, vibrant neighborhood in the center of Detroit. There are so many fantastic bars, shopping opportunities, museums and restaurants within walking distance. The Wayne State Police is highly active and patrols Midtown 24/7 with a fast response rate making Midtown the safest neighborhood in Detroit and one of the safest university campuses in the nation.
  • Kelsey's apartment is located in a fantastic neighborhood of Detroit. We had a great time checking out the local amenities, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, a good coffee shop, restaurants, and breweries. The apartment itself is really neat and fits Kelsey's description. Our only problem during our stay was that the heat was not working, and Kelsey was out of town, so it made it really difficult to coordinate getting it running again.

    Laura2016-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • In the mix of local shops, restaurants and short ride to downtown. Ideal location if you are unfamiliar to Detroit.

Only heard people above us once when they were leaving and using the stairs. Self check in was the easiest process. The lock with the key in it was literally attached to the door. Very cool place. • A cute and stylish little apartment within walking distance from shopping, food and drink! The bed and sofa were very comfortable and it was nice to have coffee available upon arrival. The home doesn’t have its own temp control which wasn’t great as it was chilly, and it doesn’t have cable. There was a Netflix account attached but was always maxed out on users, which was a bit of a let down during our down time. Overall it was a great value.

  • Connie's studio was lovely! It was the perfect size for two, and was easy to locate and in a great spot in Midtown. I would definitely recommend booking with Connie; she even sent us a message to make sure everything was good to go once we arrived! If ever I'm in Detroit again, I'll be sure to look up Connie's listing first.

This cottage like home is close to The Detroit River, Canals, Residential Islands, and Grosse Pointe. You’ll love this cozy home, filled with lots of natural light, and right next to a major bus line for easy access to downtown. The space is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
Hello! Welcome to Jefferson Chalmers! I have done much traveling, and I know the importance of having a friendly, clean, and safe refuge when traveling in unknown territory. Jefferson Chalmers is the neighborhood that I grew up in, and I have been working on homes here to preserve the community. This home is one of them. It is a very cozy cottage like space, a perfect place to use as a home base for touring the City. There are three full time residents here, an artist, a clothing designer, and a dancer. The home is always full of interesting and friendly people. There is one full bath and and a full open kitchen which is available for cooking and storing food. This house was built in the 20s but was abandoned for many years and suffered a lot of damage. I just finished its rehab and am happy to see it alive again. Instead of a full tear out I tried to preserve the existing detail that is created when a house is abandoned. Income from the home will go into further renovations over time and will slowly erase the scars of abandonment. Given the increasing interest in Jefferson Chalmers, and given my need to fund my preservation projects in the community, I decided to make this space available to travelers looking for a quality, laid back living space for a reasonable price. This provides a place for you, brings awareness to the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood, and funds improvements on the Marlborough block!
The housing consists of bungalows and Arts and Crafts houses built in the early 20th Century that have maintained their character and beauty. Most blocks have many owner occupied houses and mowed lawns. The neighborhood is on the Detroit River and is bordered by beautiful river side parks, canals, and residential islands accessible by bridge. The Jefferson-Chalmers Business District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 and is one of a few early twentieth-century neighborhood commercial districts that still survive in Detroit. During the 1920s, this district along Jefferson was the center of the east-side neighborhood's commercial, social, and cultural life. The district is unique in that two big-band era ballrooms, the cultural fulcrums of the early 20th century social scene, still exist within the district: the Monticello and the Vanity Ballroom.
  • La casa tiene aire acondicionado y es cálida a pesar de ser antigua. Aunque sólo tiene un baño pudimos disponer de él a cualquier hora. Tiene lavadora y secadora, cosa que nos resultó muy útil.

This home, located right next door to my residence, is the third Detroit home I've taken on as a renovation. It still has a few more details to hammer out, but due to the huge demand for accommodations, I decided to list it early at a discount rate. It is adjacent and connected to my urban duck farm!
I'm not going to lie, since the housing crash, many people left this neighborhood, so there is blight, empty houses, and empty lots where houses used to be. But the good news is, it is considered one of the more stable neighborhoods in the city. In the entire three years I have been renting on airbnb, over 100 rentals per year, we have not experienced a single crime incident. We are also located blocks from Grosse Pointe, one of the safest suburbs in the area, where there is shopping, groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, and most other amenities.
  • The house was comfortable and provided everything we needed. It was centrally located to get to all the events for my son's wedding. We enjoyed the art deco kitchen.

    Hermine2016-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to call home for a week. Lots of space, a decent kitchen (that came with some surprise food), an amazing sofa, and a good neighborhood. We somehow missed meeting Suzanne every single day, but her communication was great (even when we accidentally parked on the grass that was her lawn and not her driveway, she was very patient (note to future guests: park in the driveway to the right)). The one teeny inconvenience we noted is that the two smaller bedrooms do not come with doors (but all of the beds are amazingly comfy). She calls it a fixer-upper, but this 1st floor of a house is charmingly simple yet has everything you need, and the fact it isn't fancy keeps the price in the range of perfect. Thank you for hosting us Airbnb newbies - we will definitely aim to be back next year.

    Janine2015-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne was the perfect host! She was able to host our last minute adventure with a days notice. She responded very quickly to all my questions and with no problem let us stay another night. It was fast to get to downtown by car and there were plenty of awesome places to bike to very near the house. Suzanne supplied us with bikes & even joined us in showing us around the surrounding areas. Our stay was perfect and even more than we expected! We loved it.

    Arielle2015-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Always pick one of Suzanne's if you're in the area. Seriously. Do yourself the favor.

    Shamadul 2016-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne is there if you need her but never really there if you dont! Cool ducks. Chill house. Lots of space.

    Brad2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here with four of us adults and one child and baby. Everything was just as described. We were very comfortable and had everything we needed. I was surprised to find thoughtful touches, like a quilt on the couch, organic coffee, and all the dishes and cutlery we needed. The area seemed a bit rough, but we had no issues at all and felt very safe. It was a very peaceful and quiet street.

    Candice2017-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to experience a classic home with the character and a feel of tenacious Detroit, then book the house now. I wanted to experience Detroit in its urban farming revival, and the urban duck farm in the back was the cherry on the top of my expectations. Suzanne was an absolutely wonderful host with clear communication and a smile the next morning. I'd do this again anytime.

    Holly2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • The house was as advertised. Suzanne was awesome! Plenty of room for just my sister and me. Would be comfy for three more! We were able to cook and pack lunches and snacks. We also had a car and so driving to our conference was a snap. We got to see a lot of the city for ourselves this way. We send our love to Detroit! Say Good Things About Detroit was our favorite message; we saw it everywhere.

Corktown is amazing! It is home to the city's most eclectic coffee shops, bars, restaurants, breweries, record shops, cutest retail spots, and secondhand shops. Most are a 10-15-min walk or 5-min car ride away. The loft is also super close to downtown, all festivals (e.g., Movement, MoPop) and the Cobo Center (10-15 min walk); The Renaissance Center (RenCen, 6-min drive/27-min walk); and Hart Plaza is a 4-min drive/23-min walk past Rosa Park's old condo and the Detroit Riverwalk (a site of the Underground Railroad).
  • It’s Such a beautiful space. Danielle was so prompt with her communication, and provided clear directions for entrance and anything we needed. It was pleasant time staying here, I would love to come back when I visit.

    Sam2018-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Danielle was a wonderful host who responded quickly and was very helpful. The check-in process was a bit confusing, and I ended up being told to go to the wrong apartment before Danielle quickly corrected her mistake and got me situated. The studio itself was lovely and had a cool style and great vibe. The highlight was the bed - it was super comfortable and a great place to get some rest. However, there were lots of big windows without any shades or curtains, which made it tough to sleep in. Also, the apartment building itself reeked of cigarette smoke, which made it really unenjoyable coming and going through the fairly confusing hallways and such. Luckily, inside Danielle's studio, we couldn't smell the smoke at all. Overall it was a nice stay, but given some of the challenges, it felt a bit too pricey for us.

    Nathan2018-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The loft is absolutely beautiful and the pictures are an accurate representation of how nice the space looks. It is a big open room, nicely decorated with plenty of furniture and seating. It is located very close to the downtown area and is a prime location. Danielle was super helpful and responsive, making for a very pleasant and comfortable stay. The building complex is old and has a lot of character. If you're looking for something cool and hip, this is definitely the place.

  • Very clean and spacious. Easy to walk anywhere. Danielle made herself available to us whenever we needed and had great recommendations for food and drinks. She also dropped off bottled water to us after we inquired about the tap water.

    Desta2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Danielle’s place is absolutely perfect. And she went above and beyond to make our stay fabulous. AirBnB at its best. Highly recommended!

    Hosanna2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Danielle was an incredible host who really cares about her guests. The loft is awesome and very comfortable.

  • Danielle's loft is amazing. It was the perfect home base for exploring Detroit. It is the perfect location, just a 5 minute drive from downtown or the cute restaurants and bars in Corktown. And her home is even more beautiful -- and bigger! -- than the pictures. She has great style and everything you need to feel at home. And she was the most welcoming, helpful host with tons of great recommendations. Looking forward to staying at her loft on future trips to Detroit!

With that being said, if you require more privacy, this is probably not the best place for you but most guests see it as a great way to meet people and embrace the community vibe as part of the adventure. OUR HOUSE & OUR SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD Built in 1923, this nice, rustic home is located on Detroit's "Lower East Side" near Grosse Pointe and less than 1 block from the water. It has Large private backyard, river access & great parks 1 minute walk away. Our block is part of the famous "Copper Canyon" and is known as one of Detroit's safest areas where many families and police officers live. We are conveniently located 5.5 miles to downtown (12-15 minutes by car or 30 minutes by bike). Off-street parking is available.
LOCATION The home is conveniently located 5.5 miles east of downtown Detroit (12-15 minutes by car or 30 minutes by bike). "Jefferson Chalmers" (formerly Fairview) is a historic river-front neighborhood located along Detroit's "Lower East Side" and south-west of Grosse Pointe Farms. It is the 1st site in Michigan to earn the National Treasure status in 2016, just 1 of 70 in the United States. A RICH HISTORY: THE BIRTH OF THE AUTOMOBILE & PROHIBITION Built in 1923, this home is part of an exciting history that we hope you will learn more about. Local history highlights include: * During the “roaring 1920s” prohibition swept the country and alcohol was banned. The Fox Creek, located just behind the house, became a major channel for smuggling illegal booze from Canada. Legend has it this house was used as a speakeasy (secret bar) where people gathered for a drink. * In 1905: Henry Ford raced through this neighborhood and proved his ability as an automotive pioneer which helped him get financing and launch the Ford motor company. The automotive industry was literally born here! Our home is located along the actual route that Henry Ford took during his famous race in 1901 (historic maps available). We are just across the street from the water and you can throw a rock & hit the nearest canal from our backyard (but please don't do that haha). We are also within 1-2 blocks of several large beautiful parks such as Alfred Brush Ford Park and Riverfront-Lakewood Park. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY Since 2015, we’ve worked on this home continuously and we are excited to share it with you and fellow travelers. In a way, our home is just like the city of Detroit – it had a glorious past and went through some very tough times, but if you dig through the surface, it’s not hard to find its beauty. This charming home, like many others in Detroit, was abandoned and abused, and just needed to be re-discovered, re-invented and brought back to life… WHAT BROUGHT US HERE After driving through Detroit in 2013 we fell in love with the city and its people so we decided to move here. Since 2013 we have been busy saving old houses, removing them from the "demo list" and helping to bring them back to life. We scouted literally every neighborhood in Detroit when we first arrived and we chose this particular neighborhood (Jefferson Chalmers) because of its rich history, great neighbors, and its outstanding natural resources. This neighborhood is not the closest to downtown Detroit (12-15 minutes by car) but our convenient river access, proximity to nearby parks, and overall friendly and safe vibe makes this our favorite neighborhood in Detroit and we hope you will like it here too! HELP US CONTINUE RESTORATION WORK All proceeds from AirBNB help us fund our continuing restoration work so each guest brings us one step closer to saving these awesome historic homes. WE'RE HERE TO HELP We hope our place serves as a great base for your Detroit adventures and we hope you enjoy your stay. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your experience here even better!
  • Genial! Una casa preciosa en proceso de reconstrucción que merece la pena conocer junto con el barrio. La habitación y la cama perfectas. Me hubiera gustado conocer a los dueños pero no se encontraban allí.

    Mehdi2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • The room was big enough for 3 people and the bed is so comfortable!! Lots of amenities and the hosts are always quick to help. No A/C though, but we asked for an extra fan and it was promptly brought to us. They even let us come early to just park our car so we could get to our music festival on time. Loved our stay!

    Mackenzie2016-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Alex for being so discreet. We were able to move freely in the apartment. We appreciate the music and the many sweet attentions . If the opportunity to visit Detroit presents once again we'll be pleased to stay at your apartment again. Thank you

  • I only had time for a quick overnight, but Alex made sure that everything was set up for me and I felt welcome. They've done a really nice job with remodeling the house and I wished I could have stayed longer in that comfy bed. Cool cross between a hotel, b&b, and hostel with nice security but a common space made for interacting with the other guests.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME: Instant book ensures no discrimination #DisforDiversity. Secure, clean, comfortable private room in a warm home on a tree-lined street in one of Detroit's best neighborhoods for diversity and architecture - Hubbard Farms. Adjacent to Corktown, Mexicantown/Mexican Village and the riverfront; close to downtown and COBO.
This 3 bd/1.5 ba non-smoking home offers 1 private, furnished guest bedroom with private 1/2 bath (full bath is shared). Comfortable living area, full kitchen, dining area and pleasant porch to spend the evenings on. This home has maintained much of its historic aesthetic, with modern appliances and convenience. There is 1 small, high energy boxer/pug mix dog in the home. (PLEASE NOTE: Totem, my beloved family member, was abducted on 5/7/18. It is a sad time. I have not removed her reference, in hopes she will be returned and future guests won't be confused by the disconnect. However, she is not currently a feature in my home.) The location is in a quiet, safe, historic district within walking distance to Corktown, the iconic train station, Mexicantown/Mexican Village, the river front, a community garden, large public park and lots of entertainment. The El Club music venue is within 4 blocks. Downtown and COBO are a short distance away (~2.5 miles) and cheap by Lyft or quick by bike. WSU is ~3.5 miles and Ford Hsp ~4.25 miles from the house. Loaner bike available with *refundable* security deposit. Public transportation is accessible either in front of the house or across the street. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. This is a low-scent house. Products have trained many of us to associate "clean" with aggressive perfumes, which you will not find here. All sheets and towels are washed after each guest use; in fact, if anyone should fault the linens, it's because frequency of washing wears them more quickly than is practical to replace them. If there is any mark or lint or whatever, these are just normal laundry limits and no indication that anything is amiss. If you really feel something is genuinely off, please let me know when I can actually correct it and improve your experience. 2. Totem, my dog, lives here; as a sentient resident, she is not expected to be put away like an object to accommodate guests who are not dog people. She is not allowed in the guest room (although some guests cheat), or on any beds (although sometimes she cheats). Yet, the reality of her existence means that guests are likely to encounter modest amounts of dog hair in passing - this is far less than how much we encounter guest hair, so it seems fair. Totem also takes her watch dog job very seriously, and barks when guests enter and sometimes when they're in the hall. Stepping through the door and greeting her notifies her that you are a guest and not an intruder. We are all thankful for Totem's vigilance, since none of us would want an intruder to get in without enough notice to put our pants on. Totem is a complete lap dog/attention hound, but she cannot be expected to understand complex social relationships and needs clear cues. If you find any bit of dog hair a signal of filth, or you are terrified by 20 lbs of appropriate bark, this may not be a place for you. For a mildly funny commentary on Totem as an Airbnb host, you might want to read "Hostess with the Someness" on my blog, hicdracones dot c-o-m.
The neighborhood is historic and residential, but with immediate access to a vibrant, ethnic commercial corridor, restaurants, bars and other entertainment. Some guests have insisted on calling this area "transitional." I believe that this is because Detroit is unique to most cities and gives many cues that would mean something different in another place. In fact, Hubbard Farms has been remarkably stable even in the worst of the crisis, and Southwest Detroit has had the most contiguous occupancy of any sector, due to the strong Latino base. The entire city of Detroit is "transitional," but this neighborhood is far less so than most. The city requires houses which are vacant for any reason - even if under rehab - to be boarded. Therefore, a boarded house is not necessarily a sign of decay or problems, here. In this neighborhood, there are no vacant houses which are not currently owned and in some stage of renovation. However, in Detroit as a whole, empty houses are normal. It may be considered a form of blight, but it is not *necessarily* the "rough" signal that some assume - it can be, but there are other cues, as well, not just empty houses. Throughout Detroit, property crime is typical of a city, but in this area, more serious crime is very low. On the other hand, it is precisely because Detroit is "transitional" as a whole that so much exciting energy of creation is here: there is literal room and economic feasibility to create new things in a way which is rarely found in highly dense, polished places. Southwest is well-known for its "edge effect," a principle of true diversity which gives it a fairly unique flavor here in Detroit.
  • The home was great and the host was very accommodating. The house is a $5 uber ride from downtown, which makes it very convenient as well.

  • Marlena was an absolute life saver on our trip to Detroit! Our other airbnb arrangements got canceled and she was able to help us out in a pinch! She even picked us up from the bus station! As for the stay, it was great! We couldn't of asked for better. A nice cozy place! Her dog was a hoot too! :D If we ever stay in Detroit again, we'll definitely be staying at Marlena's!

    Hunter2016-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended. Great place, great host. Marlena sent us clear instructions on how to get at and in the appartment. The appartment was clean and a nice touch where the cue cards which made it easy for us to find our way around in the house. Bedroom had everything we needed and was very clean. Nice bathroom with a great shower and plenty of soap and shampoo (always easier than bringing your own). We had a nice chat with the very friendly host and learned a few things about Detroit. We still had a lot of privacy in this house and the neighbourhood is very quiet and safe. It's very easy to get to by car which we did but from what I read public transport is also readily available ( there is a bus stop right in front of the house).

    Jan2016-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Marlena's home was beautiful and comfortable. The area was reasonably accessible and anywhere we wanted to go was less than $10 in an uber. We didn't spend much time in Detroit but Marlena was very helpful with recommendations and accommodating our timing.

    Johan2015-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at marlena's place. Easy to find, easy to park, neighborhood felt safe, beautiful old house and very clean. She's been a great host, provided not only wifi but even Netflix on tv. Highly recommended for travelers to Detroit.

    Difan2015-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place was so cool. One could not ask for a better host than Marlena. If you are looking for a person who loves Detroit and is willing to give suggestions on places to explore? Look no further. Totes was such a cool dog, and I have not stopped raving about this place since I left. The house was clean and had an appropriate amount of space for two people. I will be back!

    John2016-07-09T00:00:00Z

My place is close to downtown, new center, wayne state u, motown museum, center for creative studies, cultural district. You’ll love my place because of the location..

  • Laa conexion a internet es espectacular. Cumple con basico, si esta buscando un poco de lujo o confort no es. El mas apropiado. Si bus as un lugar para dejar maletas y salir a conocer ... es ideal.

  • Needed a place to stay on a short notice, the host was very helpful and accommodating.

    Luka2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location but the kitchen and bathroom leave much to be desired. Kitchen sink was full of fruit flies and bathroom was very uncleanly. Sharing apartment with three other people, wish this was clearly communicated up front. Very difficult to contact host prior to arriving despite calling, texting and communicating via AirBnB app. Once arrived waited 10 minutes for host to arrive despite being in the house next door.

    Tiffany2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Tom met me at the door upon my arrival. He showed me around and introduced me to the guests. Tom is a nice and welcoming guy. The place is very clean and the bed was comfortable. The listing is near the downtown so you won't need to spend a lot of money for transportation. The place is safe, I stayed for four days and it was nice. Everything shared about the listing is true. For the price I paid to stay here. I think it was worth it and I would ignore the bad comments. I would go back to this place and highly recommend this listing for everyone.

The Duck 'N' Roll inn is a three bedroom home situated on a urban duck farm. A combination of contemporary features and old-time cottage charm will keep you comfortable and cozy while you enjoy Detroit's east side. It is close to Grosse Pointe, and most Detroit destinations are quickly reached by freeway.
The Duck 'N' Roll Inn has been a home to journalists, documentary filmmakers, artists, performers, urban planners and explorers, and this year, a temporary home for families reuniting. It's been a joy to teach the kids about the ducks! The "Duck 'N' Roll Inn" is an eclectic farmhouse on an urban duck farm, officially known as Laid In Detroit. The farm provides pasture raised duck eggs to Rock City Eatery, as well as local residents. Located in the easy-going east side, Laid In Detroit was voted "Best Inner City Duck Farm" by the staff of the Metro Times. Though it's not so much an "inner city" vibe as it is a laid back oasis amongst urban sprawl. It encompasses 4 city lots full of trees and garden, The house has 3 bedrooms--a nautical room, and kid friendly room, and a spacious bedroom known as "the disco room," which features a large skylight, a woodburning stove, enormous chalk boards, and a sound system with a disco ball so that it doubles as a dance floor! There is one full bath with an extra wide jacuzzi tub, as well as a half bath on the first floor. The property also features a steel bbq in the form of a dinosaur, an adobe pizza oven on site, as well as panoramic views of the gardens and the ducks frolicking in the pasture. We have a new addition to the farm! Meg, the livestock guardian dog is keeping us safe from predators and prowlers. Great Pyrenees guardian dogs are known for their friendly, gentle demeanor, as well as their superior livestock guarding abilities. When you meet her, give her a biscuit and a pat. She loves guests! (By the way, the dog is off limits to the house unless invited! No worries if you are allergic or not an animal lover.) The house is full of character with a large kitchen and dining area. The property also has many ecological features, such as a green roof over the duck coop. Your stay here will not only be relaxing and fun, but educational as well. Typical guests who have really enjoyed the Duck 'N' Roll Inn are artists, urban gardening fans, photographers, journalists, film makers, animal lovers, students, musicians, world travelers and anyone with an adventurous mindset. You can also rest easy knowing that the money from your reservation is going directly to a small farm business in a developing neighborhood in Detroit. Cornerstone Village, once a stable working class neighborhood founded by Belgian immigrants (some refer to it as "the Belgian triangle") has also been affected by the recent mass exodus from Detroit. But a strong coalition of homeowners with deep roots in the community have held things together. You will encounter some blight and vacant homes in the neighborhood. There are characters, and oftentimes people are out and about, playing music and socializing, but it is a friendly neighborhood, All guests have had a safe experience here. There are many great restaurants nearby, as well as bars, pubs, and grocery stores. The Cadieux Cafe and Ye Olde Tap Room have been around for a century. Trader Joe's and Kroger grocery are within walking distance. Laid In Detroit has hosts many events, including an annual Easter party for the kids.
  • This was probably one of the coolest places I have stayed at... It sort of has the feel of an eclectic magical oasis in the city. The house was very clean and comfortable with inspired decor and some conversation pieces. The ducks were very cute and it was heartwarming to see them frolic around. We also got to hang out with the beautiful fluffy dog Meg in the backyard. Suzanne herself was also very friendly and made us feel welcome. I can't really speak to the neighbourhood since we spent most of our time in another part of the city involved in family wedding activities, but let's just say you can catch glimpses of some gritty Detroit "flavour" if you look around the area. We felt very safe in the home though, and I would definitely come back here for a stay another time!

    Laurie2014-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Air B&B experience. Suzanne was a wonderful host. She was available when we needed her but not intrusive. The property is as represented and we had plenty of room for everyone. The yard did not have grass but I still enjoyed being outside. Neighbors were quiet. Very nice stay for our Henry Ford museum trip. We would recommend and stay again.

    Kathy2015-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • This house was in an interesting spot, and there were indeed, lots of ducks!! The property was very reasonably priced, and was certainly an unusual stop along our journey. Many thanks!

    Phil2015-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brief but wonderful stay at the Duck 'n' Roll Inn, a unique and striking setting to relax, work, and play (with the ducks, of course). It's very easy to get downtown from here, so commuting was a breeze. Suzanne was a great host, responding quickly to our questions and making sure we were comfortable. Next time, we'll have to stay a little bit longer.

    Harrod2012-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne was a great host! The home has a lot of charm. The disco ball in bedroom was fun! The Jacuzzi tub was nice. The ducks that live in backyard were so cute! Neighborhood could have been nicer, but we felt safe and even stayed for an extra day!

This beautiful and spacious apartment is the entire first floor of a two floor duplex in a historic home conveniently located in the heart of Corktown. Unit has a private entrance, large bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom.
  • Michelle was a fantastic host, I can't recommend her enough! She was incredibly responsive and attentive throughout my stay, and went out of her way to assist me - including allowing me to arrive early & leave late, as well as borrow her lovely bicycle for the day! Her apartment is gorgeous - Michelle has a great eye - and conveniently located in Corktown, a beautiful little neighborhood close to the river and downtown Detroit with a ton of trendy cafes, restaurants and bars in walking distance! Such good value too - I can't wait to stay again! 10/10!

  • My husband and I had a great time at Michelle's home. It's a beautiful place with a lot of space. It's clean and comfortable and in a great location. Michelle is flexible with checking in and out and easy to communicate with. We highly recommend staying here.

    Leah2016-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Michelle's apartment was super cozy and perfectly located in the city for heading downtown, discovering Cork Town and exploring other hip neighborhoods as well. The space itself is huge, decorated in a vintage modern minimalist style, and very comfortable, even in the cold of January. Check-in was seamless, and communication with Michelle was easy and friendly. We would definitely stay here on our next excursion to Detroit.

    Rob2016-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • She made it very easy to communicate with her, and when we arrived, everything was in perfect condition, and the atmosphere itself is just very welcoming. It was the perfect choice, and I'm so glad it was the place I decided to rent.

    Heather2016-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Michelle was a fantastic host; sweet, flexible, and communicative. We booked the day of and it was ready for us . The place was clean and in a fun and funky location. The style of the apartment was quintessential Detroit. Very centrally located.

Creator of Scrap Bar NYC and Goodbye Blue Monday in Bk, NY, I moved to Detroit five years ago and live here, on Farnsworth St, Detroit; it's on the city's east side, close to Eastern Market, Hamtramck, Midtown and Downtown Detroit (six minutes in any direction!) and all major highways.
space is a private room with a door that locks from the inside, ensuring privacy, in the middle of the apartment, behind the kitchen and bath, and has one window (see pic), available closet and storage space and a wicker-table for your stuff. it measures approximately 11' x 8 1/2' it also has a new addition - an old "left-handed desk"! i know you can't wait to see that!! yes, i also live here. please bear in mind that this is a hundred-year-old, wood frame house with 60+-year old old, scarred linoleum tile flooring. i ALWAYS keep this place vacuumed and mopped, but old is old, so what you see on these floors are permanent scars, NOT me being lazy!!
the best way to explain Farnsworth street is to look-up a story in the Detroit-Metro Times about Paul Weertz. It's a great story about the block where i live. the first photo of the white house with the white toyota stationwagon in the story is my place (and my car)
  • Stephen's place is artistic and comfortable. He was the former owner of the legendary Scrap Bar and Goodbye Blue Monday in New York. There are two pets on the property: a dog and cat, both very sweet and lovable. The location is in a quiet residential area. I had a great night's rest here. A divider is provided between the space and living room to include extra privacy. There is plenty of street parking and the neighborhood appears to be in a safer part of Detroit. I'd highly recommend staying at Stephen's. He provides great conversation and is generous with his guests. Fantastic host.

    Minar2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Goodbye Blue Detroit was great. iStephen was kind, generous and super cool. His place is clean, well laid out and comfortable. Located close enough to all the major sights I wanted to see, I really felt what living in Detroit might be like.

  • Stephen is a wonderful host. I enjoyed two very comfortable nights in his well-located home. Thank you!

    Clive2017-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Had a really good few days at Stephen's place. He's a great host, really generous with the offer of borrowing his bike, breakfast goodthings, and his pasta fagioli is excellent. Was a great pleasure to hear Stephen's stories of New York bar life and Detroit now, and to spend time hanging out with Maxx - he's a lovely dog. I actually get serious allergies from most animals but not Stephen's as the house is clean and tidy. Hope to be able to return one day.

    Luke2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • It was great !! :D Stephen is the best host ever !! The house is clean and cozy !! I loved !! Thank you !!

  • I had a nice time in Detroit. Stephen place is something special, authentic, alternative, nature (dog and cat). And the possibility to have a bike make my days there. Thank you Stephen!

Feel the industrial vibes of Detroit in this gorgeous loft, located in a 1920's automotive parts factory. Some features like the wood floors and pillars are all original. It also has exposed brick, and tall windows letting the sun shine through. Located in a quiet, industrial area 3-8 minute drive to Midtown, Eastern Market, Hamtramck and Downtown. Around 1 mile to Q line & very bike friendly as you can get to many places easily!
This industrial boho loft is clean, comfy and ideal for couples, larger groups, and individuals too. Fully equipped kitchen Private entrance in the parking lot Sleeping arrangements: Full size super comfy Sealy posturepedic mattress Sofa- for 1 (not too tall) Twin bed A queen air mattress can be set up upon request Please select the amount of guests you will be so that I can provide bed sheets and towels accordingly.
Make neighbors with the old factories and pheasants ~ The loft is located in an old industrial and unique neighborhood. Many of the plots and buildings here have been converted into artist studios/loft buildings, community gardens and music venues. The area is safe, but as a fair warning it may look a bit eary to those not familiar with Detroit. The people who occupy this building are friendly and it feels like a community.
  • Super cute little loft in a cool old industry building. Great host, responds very fast

    Naureen2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • I just couldn’t get over how cool the place was! It felt like I had my very own bohemian loft!

    Chelsea2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot! Felt safe, comfy, and in a reasonable distance of some good nightlife and yummy restaurants. Georgia was super nice, and helpful. Listen when she mentions the heat!! It gets VERY hot during the winter when the heat pops on. If using Uber be sure to use the addess provided in the check in instructions. Otherwise, everything was lovely, and we'd definitely stay again.

    Vanessa2017-12-10T00:00:00Z

  • This has to be the cutest cottage in Corktown! Refurbished and remodeled to the hilt. We enjoyed our short stay with Jesse and Lindsey, wish we could have stayed longer. Felt very safe in the Corktown neighbor just outside the city. Jesse and Lindsey were very accommodating and so easy to work with. We will definetely be back again for a longer stay!

  • We were SO excited for our stay in Lindsay + Jesse's place, because the photos had us swooning, and somehow it managed to be even more gorgeous than the photos. These two have impeccable taste and it's so darn homey in there. You can walk a block over and go to Batch Brewing (definitely do that!) and easily get to all the fun spots in Corktown. They left us some fantastic local coffee for the morning and plenty of water in the fridge. Only sad thing is we only stayed one night. :) If we could move in, we would. So if you're a solid human who can appreciate a lovely space and be an awesome guest to these great hosts, do it!

  • Absolutely fantastic stay! Jesse and Lindsay were very sweet and incredibly helpful. The place was a dream. I’ve been visiting Corktown for 20 years and being able to stay at this adorable spot made it better than ever. Very quiet for working but five minutes’ walk to everything you need.

  • Lindsay + Jesse have done a beautiful job of restoring and maintaining a classic home in a great Detroit neighborhood. Many modern updates. I would definitely recommend a stay.

One of the most beautiful homes on Airbnb. This is a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom historic home in one of the most beautiful, one of a kind neighborhood of Detroit. Woodbridge is in Midtown, and a mile from most of Detroit's finest sights, art, and stadiums. My wife and I are in Greece for at least six months helping refugees and your stay is our only revenue keeping us there. Thank you! Note on Cleaning Fee: There is a group that help maintain the place. It goes to them to support a living wage.
This is a great 4000 sq/ft three story single family home. Very spacious with tons of light. All the bedrooms have great closet space and two rooms have en suite full baths.
Woodbridge is one of the most beautiful areas of Detroit. Within 1-2 miles of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Whole Foods, Eastern Market, Downtown, Wayne State. Comerica Park, Ford Field, Masonic Temple, Fox Theater, Corktown. Detroit safety and emptiness comes up often. This house is in the safest part of Detroit. We are the only area that is patrolled by three police departments due to Wayne State University and the variety of medical centers near by. Many are thrown off by the current state of Detroit. There are amazing small "islands" of great neighborhoods throughout the city, but a lot of emptiness, grafitti, and development between all of them. You can't escape it if you are staying in Detroit. It's the nature of our city. This house is in one of the safest and most quiet neighborhoods in all of Detroit. We are only a mile from city center and most attractions. My reviews tend to be all 5 stars except sometimes we fall short in "location". I attribute this to guests being unfamiliar with Detroit, so I am trying to give a more detailed background of the nature of our city.
  • George was an excellent host! We were on town on a film tour and George drove us to our presentation when it became clear that we were going to have a hard time getting a cab. The house was beautiful, super comfy and clean. George made us feel at home.

  • George was very communicative and helpful. The house was a great historic house with an interesting layout. It was perfect for our needs (business travel), and very homey.

  • The host was very helpful in making our stay comfortable, yet was very respectful of privacy. A wonderful experience!

  • I loved absolutely everything about my experience with this house. I rented this house to host a low-key bachelorette party. The house is absolutely beautiful, with a ton of character inside and a lovely outdoor space. Plus some really great furniture. The kitchen was well-stocked, which made cooking for a group a breeze. The neighborhood is full of interesting and colorful old houses. We had a blast just walking around the nearby blocks admiring the houses. And the hosts were so helpful. We wanted to watch old DVDs, and George brought over and set up a DVD player ahead of time, just for us. Check-in was super easy and seamless. Plus, the hosts gave us so many ideas and insights about what to do in Detroit, it really made us feel welcome.

  • House was as described and very comfortable for a group of five. We had no issues with the location or any external factors, except happen to be there when there was a gnarly house fire on the other block! Kitchen was well stocked with pans, tools, and utensils. Beds were very comfortable and clean. Bathroom was clean and there was plenty of hot water. Would stay again.

Our host made us feel very welcome even before we arrived. The accommodation was as described and included useful notes on the neighbourhood and things for our family to do. The place was very clean and smart with nice furniture. The heating is controlled remotely by the owner and the back door coded entrance was simple to use. Thanks for a good few days.
