Just booked in Poughkeepsie

Just booked in Poughkeepsie
Sleep staring at stars in wine country! Featured in The New York Times, The Today Show & called by Forbes "The World's Most Beautiful Tiny House," the Hudson Valley Glass House is a magical getaway. Just 90 mins from NYC, but a world away. 30 acres of rolling hills give total privacy & isolation as glass walls open up onto endless views of vineyards, orchards, & wildlife (spy coyote, deer, & amazing birds!). Modern comforts (WiFi, A/C, loaded kitchen) mean you don't have to give anything up.
Hi! If you're thinking of booking, please message me first to confirm, and also please read the entire listing to the end as it likely answers any questions you may have... Welcome to The Glass House. Come see why Forbes called it "The World's Most Beautiful Tiny House" and called an "off-grid oasis" on The Today Show. Sleep staring at the stars and feel the stress melt away in this glass-enclosed tiny house (just 180 square feet!) retreat, just 90 minutes from NYC, but a world's away. This is a truly special place, and most people find it surprising that it can exist so close to New York. With all sorts of wildlife coming within inches of the house (don't be surprised if you see coyotes, families of deer, and every type of bird you could imagine--not to mention more butterflies than you've ever seen, depending on the season), this is a truly immersive experience into nature. But despite its small size and isolated location, it is surprisingly luxurious on the inside. The listing includes: -A 180 square-foot glass-enclosed tiny house, offering spectacular 360-degree views of the Hudson Valley and surrounding vineyards and apple orchards -Lots of privacy on a 30-acre farm. -Outdoor dining and lounging furniture, along with access to a fire pit that you can definitely grill on. -A plush queen-sized bed with a super-comfy memory foam mattress and insanely comfortable pillows -A dining table with two chairs for sitting and eating. -A modern stainless-steel kitchen with a mini-fridge, induction cooktop for cooking, microwave, and electric kettle. Despite the small size, it has just about everything but a range oven. -Wi-Fi for keeping in touch with the real world and streaming shows on your personal devices. Also note that while the house is tiny and has a maximum occupancy of two people, I am sometimes able to accommodate larger parties for those bringing tents and willing to camp outside. Please inquire about pricing for such scenarios. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Can I get to the house without a car? A: The house is about 25-minutes driving from the Beacon train station. If you choose not to drive the whole way there are Zipcar pickups at the train station (reserve in advance!) and Uber JUST launched in the area ($20-$30 for the ride from the train). A car is highly recommended (especially if you want to explore the area), but this definitely makes things possible for the car-free—just be sure to show up with everything you need for the stay as the farm is in a rural area that is not particularly walkable. Q: Do I need to bring towels or linens? What about a hairdryer? A: Nope! I provide all these things. Same with basic toiletries (unless I happen to be out, which is very rare). Q: Is this house really off the grid? A: Yep! It features solar panels for power, a propane HVAC system for heating and air-conditioning, and a unique dry-flush toilet (more on that in the "Other Things To Note" section below). One exception: You absolutely have working Wi-Fi. Q: How will I receive the key? A: The house features a keyless entry system with a code that lasts as long as your stay. This allows for effortless check-in and entry. Q: Is the place professionally cleaned between guests? A: Yes, and I take pride in providing a clean home for guests. Take a look at my reviews—I think you'll find my guests agree! Q: What's up with the cleaning fee? A: I get a lot of questions about this, so I'll just break it down so you understand why it is what it is: All but $10 of that goes directly to my cleaner. She is a professional who does a great job and who I insist on compensating fairly for her work. The dry-flush toilet cartridges cost me about $20 apiece, so the remaining $10 lets me split that cost with guests. (Of course, if you happen to use more than one cartridge, I cover that cost alone). Q: What's my total booking price? A: I honestly have no idea. With fees included, Airbnb only shows the guest, and not the host, the total cost. This figure should be present after you enter your dates. Note that, pricing varies on a daily basis, and Airbnb actually uses some crazy algorithm to adjust it automatically, so I don't actually control this. Q: I am looking for a last-minute stay. Can I make a same-day booking? A: If you're looking for a same-day booking and the place is free, please inquire and I'll try! It depends on whether my cleaning crew can spring into action at the last-minute, which isn't a sure thing. Check-in may also have to be later than the listed time in order to make sure the place is ready. Still, can't hurt to ask. Q: I know it says "No Animals". Can I bring my small/well-behaved dog? A: I love dogs, but there is a farm dog who gets very nervous when other dogs are around, and so we can not allow animals. This is also for your dog's safety, as there are coyotes in the area. Basically: Please don't try to sneak one in--this really doesn't end well. Q: I'm a blogger/YouTuber/influencer. Can I stay for free? A: No. NEW: There's now a second tiny house at the farm. If you have a larger group and are looking to rent both (the new one can hold three people), definitely inquire. Or check it out for yourself here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/29535692 One last thing: I really, really appreciate that you followed directions and read the whole thing. Please put the phrase "Don't throw rocks at glass houses!!" at the top of your message so I know you did so as such bookings tend to go so much smoother! And thanks for hanging in there!
The Glass House is situated on a 30-acre farm in the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley. Guests have total privacy, but are joined on the farm by the main farm house, a smaller residence with live-in caretakers that can help out in case of an emergency, and one other tiny house. Around the farm are views of rolling vineyards and apple orchards—many of which are absolutely worth a visit. Downtown Marlboro is minutes away and has a few nightlife and dining options, and the hopping town of Beacon (home of the Dia; Beacon) is about 25 minutes away. Storm King Art Center (a must) is also about 30 minutes away. Also near: New Paltz, Cold Spring Poughkeepsie, and countless other Hudson Valley gems.
  • This relaxing retreat is perfect for the individual who wants to quiet their mind and connect with their soul, perfect for a couples getaway to retreat into each other.

  • In a word: Magical. The Glass House is a unique place that is unlike anywhere else I've ever stayed. Yes, it's a tiny home, but the giant windows make it feel surprisingly spacious and we never felt cramped. The best part is when you go to sleep. When you turn the lights off the glass walls seem to disappear and, like the listing says, it feels like you're sleeping outside under the stars. The farm itself is also awesome, with tons of space to explore. In the early spring, we had great views of some amazing scenery. We also enjoyed making a fire in the fire pit down by the pond. It really was recharging to feel like we got away from it all. The place was also very clean with some nice design and decor touches and had a very comfortable mattress. Seth was a great and attentive host who quickly got back to any questions I had. I'll definitely be back.

    Kari2017-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful solar-powered little place. The view from the bed is great; there are fields of pretty wildflowers all around. There is also a little algae-covered pond a short walk away. Very quiet most of the time. Seth is very helpful. There is a coop of chickens nearby and it is great fun to watch them mutter to themselves. Word of caution to people who don't like insects -- you will encounter ants and a spider or two.

    Ying2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Unique, romantic, and wonderful place. Seth is very responsive, and the house is stunning, comfortable, and thoughtfully furnished. It's perfectly warm in winter. As a slightly broke young adult I nearly balked at the price, but he does a really great job of making every penny feel worth it and I definitely intend to come back. Nothing was out of place, lots of little amenities were thought of for us. Also, the bed is EXTREMELY comfy! Can't recommend this place enough. If you aren't sure if it's worth it, it absolutely is, and you should take the plunge.

    Naomi Rochelle2017-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I enjoyed two days at Seth's tiny house. The bed is very comfortable and it was a pleasure to wake up with landscape all around us. We spent our time exploring towns, museums and hikes nearby - there are many easy day trips to be had. PS. If you arrive in a torrential downpour at night like we did, make sure that you bring hiking boots and a flashlight since you walk through a dark field without guide lights to the house.

    Kat2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Really, really cool tiny house. Beautiful architecture, all the amenities, on a scenic farm. I think I'm gonna buy a Vista Escape (the model of house) myself! Seth is a great host - he was very attentive to every need. He made sure everything is taken care of and ready to go. If I'm ever in the Hudson Valley again, I'd love to visit the Glass House.

  • Seth gives very clear directions for this unique space and is very helpful and available for anything you need. He also gave great information on local museums and places to eat. I had a great stay and I'm so glad Seth made a tiny house is available to check out in such a beautiful and peaceful setting. Have a tiny adventure!

    Deborah2018-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Seth was extremely helpful and communicative. The house is in a lovely setting and is well designed and comfortable. We had a bit of an issue with the lack of water, which Seth had forewarned us about but we hadn’t fully appreciated — after a couple of showers and one night’s cooking it was gone! But Seth was once again very accommodating and helped us out as best he could. Overall a lovely stay.

We are conveniently located within a 10 minute WALK from the Poughkeepsie Train Station and the historic Walkway over the Hudson! Our three family home is nestled in the Little Italy district of the City of Poughkeepsie - Appropriately there is no shortage of Italian bakeries or Italian restaurants in our neighborhood! Four restaurants (Amici's, Milanese, Cosimo's and Emiliano's) and two bakeries (La Deliziosa and Cafe Aurora) to be exact, all within WALKING distance! Good food is definitely not hard to come by in our neck of the woods. WALK on down to the Poughkeepsie waterfront... Dine inside or al fresco overlooking the beautiful Hudson River at the River Station Restaurant. Make sure you try one of the five delicious soups, homemade daily or pop into the historic Ice House on the Hudson for some of their yummy eats! Maybe you're just in the mood to cozy up next to a fire and enjoy a delicious glass of wine? Well then WALK down the street and around the corner to the Nic'L Inn. • Me and my husband were on a road trip and stayed at Robert & Regina's just for one night. It was awesome! So beautiful with so many details. I really liked the furniture and the decoration. The kitchen is really well equipped and we also had some cold drinks in the fridge. Check in was very easy because they have a code box on the door. I would highly recommend staying there and would come back any time! Thank you so much for hosting us!!!

    Sarah2017-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful stay! Robert & Regina communicated well, and the place was very nice! Bringing a car would be helpful to get to food places easier, but other than that, a great stay!

  • Clean and tidy place to stay. Everything was very easy. Can't fault it. Thanks very much.

  • Robert and Regina were super helpful and responsive. Their place is comfortable and clean and conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, downtown, the train station, the river, and the Walkway Over the Hudson bridge. We had a pleasant overnight stay while waiting for our train connection the next day.

    Nance2018-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable apartment in a pleasant neighborhood near the train station. Friendly, hospitable hosts.

    Mark2018-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place and completely met our needs. Unfortunately during this get away I wasn’t feeling great and we ended up calling it an early day. Having a comfortable space with a kitchen to make our own food was just what I needed. We were still able to relax and just hung out there. It is in a city area and by a train station. If you are looking for a quiet country space this isn’t the place to be. This was very close to the walkway over the Hudson and had several places to eat near-by (though we didn’t utilize). I would recommend and definitely stay again.

    Traci2018-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place for a quick getaway. Clean and spacious. Comfortable bed and great places to check out. I would recommend a trip to Essie’s, awesome food! This is a great place to stay.

  • Convenient, simple, and affordable spot if you're doing work in the region. Accommodating hosts!

    Brighid2017-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • To be honest, I booked this place with hesitation because I prefer to have a house to myself than to rent a room in someone's home. Luckily for me the space at Rob and Elisa's offers privacy and autonomy in comings and goings. They make every possible effort to ensure your comfort and have appointed the space well with a small fridge, coffee maker (ready to go), TV and full bath. There is also a lovely pond view from the room. From their place it was easy to visit Poughkeepsie and New Palz and to attend my friend's wedding at Liberty View Farm.

    Marni2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great play to stay while exploring the area.

    Evelyn2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • After a few days in the city during a heatwave, Rob and Elisa’s home in the woods was a welcoming oasis. Thank you <3

    Carmel2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Location is easy to find. Very unique home in quiet setting, a pond in a back of the house. The room is spacious. Feel secluded, but very convenient place, close to main roads. Elisa is very nice host. She is available any time, but leave you alone, so you can go in and out without bothering the host.

    Katsuko2016-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • I made a last-minute reservation in order to finish a work deadline. Elisa was super accommodating about letting me check in a bit early and stay a bit late (because she was in touch with the other guests before and after me). The coffee pot ready to go with the morning's coffee was a particularly delightful touch. The room was comfortable, the air conditioning worked perfectly during these hot summer days, and so it was a wonderful place to hole up -- offering a view of the treetops and a peak at the pond below. I popped in and out of New Paltz easily for fabulous restaurants. I hope to book there again!

  • A stay at Troy's beautiful home in Hyde Park was everything I had hoped for (according to all the other reviews) and more! We checked in on Friday and only stayed a night but he provided us two home-cooked, Norwegian style meals. We felt lucky to be there on Friday as we were part of Troy's Fish Friday dinner party and his friends made us feel welcomed and included. The room we stayed in was clean, the sheets were crisp and had a private bathroom.

    Sarah2015-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the Scandanavian house and would definitely stay here again. So long as you have a car, things in Hyde Park are very convenient and fairly close to the train station. The room was clean and full of wonderful little touches--pretty much had the downstairs as a private area. As everyone else has chimed in, the breakfast is off the hook. Thanks so much Troy--we look forward to seeing you, Ella and Annie again.

    Ann2015-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The house was absolutely divine and the downstairs bedroom a pleasure to stay in - so comfortable we had a daytime nap and slept in the next day! The Scandanavian breakfast was absolutely delicious and Troy was helpful, communicative and respectful with some GREAT tips about the area! I can't wait to return!

    G2015-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Troy made us feel right at home! He was a wonderful host with a gorgeous house. It was so nice to spend the weekend upstate and enjoy the spring weather. He creatively put together dinners outside and the Norwegian breakfasts were amazing! Troy was also very accommodating! He made breakfast for us at 4:30AM since I had a race to attend to and after the race he welcomed my sister and brother to dinner. He also provided massaging equipment to help me recover from my race.

    Ellie2015-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Troy was enjoyable. His home was open, friendly, and comfortable. Highly recommend his home and the wonderful breakfast he prepared for us.

    Henry2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Troy welcomed us with such friendliness that we instantly felt at home. His home is filled with light and beautiful things from all around the world. The garden and patio are well maintained and the room where we stayed had a private bathroom which was perfect for us. The Scandinavian breakfast that he served exceeded all the other airbnb experiences so far. He has two dogs that are adorable. We had so much love from them as well. PLUS he gave us a private tour of the Vanderbilt estate which was special! HIGHLY recommended to stay at his place. You will leave, wanting to stay longer.. Kabita and Taras.

  • The most considerate, fascinating host…with a breakfast not to be missed!

    Beany2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 nights at Troy’s place which we thoroughly enjoyed. His Scandinavian-style home is warm, interesting and inviting. Troy is a wonderful host with a big heart who made us feel at home. The bed was so comfy with a big down comforter and fluffy pillows. He served a Scandinavian breakfast both mornings which was a pure delight. We will always remember it! There was a fire in the fireplace and beautiful classical music playing softly on the radio. We’ve been trying to recreate some of his breakfast now that we’re home. When we left we had forgotten some clothes we’d hung in the closet, and Troy called twice to try and reach us. Fortunately, we were only about an hour away and turned back and to retrieve them. Thank you Troy!! We loved hearing his stories about his travels and his work on his home. He is very knowledgeable about the area and gave us good helpful suggestions. When you leave you feel like you’re dealing with a friend. Thanks so much for a very memorable stay, Troy!

  • I had such a great experience at this Airbnb. Troy was great about communicating with me, even if my last minute reservation. I was in town looking for an apartment. Troy and his friends all had helpful information about the area and really made me feel at home. The room was very comfortable, and the bathroom was well equipped. The house itself is beyond beautiful, the picture really don't do it justice. You can really tell that Troy loves his home and community. Overall a fantastic experience! I recommend this place to anyone coming to Hyde Park! After staying at this Airbnb I am even more excited to move to Hyde Park!

    Angela2015-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking to spend time in and around Hyde Park and the Hudson Valley, LOOK NO FURTHER!!! After a very warm welcome to his home, we knew Troy and his great living space was the PERFECT place for our Hudson Valley weekend. His home, his dogs, Annie and Ella, were so great to get to know. He shared the journey of his life and his love for Norway and introduced us to a true Norwegian feast for breakfast. Let me be clear, this breakfast is truly spectacular. Gathering around a large table mingling with Troy and the other guests was such a fantastic way to start each day. We could come and go with no worries and at the end of each day it was fun to chat with Troy over wine and beer. His suggestions for what to see and experience was totally appreciated. We can't wait to return and spend more time with Troy, Annie and Ella at their truly magnificent mid-century modern home. The icing on the cake? I feel we have made a new lifelong friend with Troy and can't wait to see him again!!

    Josh2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Troy has raised the bar for five star hotels, let alone bnbs. My friends report no interactions with hosts and lots of "no" rules, while Troy welcomed me as a long-time friend and treated me as royalty. I'd love to explore "upstate" NY again soon, from Troy's abode!

    Cynthia2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • we had a lovely stay at troys beautiful home. We felt right at home and were given great advice about what to see and eat around Hyde park. The breakfast was outstanding and the breakfast conversation very engaging - definitely a highlight of our trip!

Located in a nice, quiet residential neighborhood in the City of Poughkeepsie. Close to restaurants, short drive to shopping, and easy to get to all the sights - Walkway Over The Hudson, Dutchess Railtrail, hiking in the Shawangunk Mountains and beyond. Nice and cozy - open living area with a big, comfy couch, counter space for 2 to eat, and a nice kitchen stocked with the basic amenities. Perfect bedroom with attached bathroom. The bed is amazing! Everything you need. We'll definitely stay again!

  • Robert and Regina were awesome hosts! They were extremely accommodating with my schedule, and the commutation was perfect! The unit was just as described! It was clean, comfortable, modern and close to the train station as well as some of the other attractions Poughkeepsie has to offer. Overall it was a phenomenal visit with them and would not hesitate to recommend them as great hosts! Maybe a springtime trip is in order!

Built over 100 years ago as a chicken hatchery, this gorgeous little gem has been fully restored as a two-story guest cottage. Located in New Paltz just minutes off Exit 18 on I-87 in a very private, quiet, country setting. Only ten minutes from New Paltz Village & SUNY New Paltz and set back on a lightly traveled road for those long summer strolls. You don't even need a car to get here! It's just 12 minutes by taxi from the New Paltz Bus Station or bring your bike up and cycle everywhere!
The Little Yellow Cottage displays much of it's original construction including post and beam, stained glass in the cupola (even an original stained glass portrait of Abraham Lincoln!) and a screened in porch for breakfast with a view or just hanging out. Inside you’ll find a spiral staircase and all the 21st century amenities you’d expect, including radiant in-floor heat, AC, TV, wi-fi and laundry in the full kitchen. One queen bed sleeps two on the ground level and one Murphy bed sleeps a single on the lower level. Private picnic table right outside. And the postal code may say Highland, but the Little Yellow Cottage is really in New Paltz!
Check out the funky art hub of New Paltz or SUNY New Paltz just 10 minutes away or climb the Shawanagunk Mountains 15 minutes away. You don’t even need a car! Bring your bike up on the bus or train and take a taxi ($12) to the Little Yellow Cottage. Cycle the 20 minutes into New Paltz or even spend a day on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail also just 20 minutes away. Talk a long walk on a quiet country road and snap a selfie at the tranquil Black Creek just a minute away.
  • Justin’s “ Little yellow cottage” was darling and just perfect for our weekend get away stay in New Paltz. It was quiet, charming, and immaculately clean. We brought our bikes and were happily surprised that just out the door, we could easily ride in a beautiful country setting. Justin’s cottage is very close to New Paltz and amazing hiking trails nearby. Thanks for providing little extra touches like an assortment of teas, coffee, oatmeal for breakfast and even some chocolates. We will definitely be back again.

    Loren2018-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • The little yellow cottage is just lovely - cosy, stylish, comfortable, quiet. A perfect place to escape and relax. There is everything you need and Justin is a wonderful host, very quick to respond. Highly recommend!

  • Great tiny house. Super cute. Can't say enough good things.

    Kathi2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Justin’s place is great - very modern, sparkling clean and very well located. Just be aware it is on the smaller side, so you wouldn’t be spreading out as a family or large group.

    Preeti2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Justin is friendly and helpful. Cottage is adorable. Quiet and peaceful. A romantic spot for a quiet couple retreat. Loved the screened in porch.

    Amy2018-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic home. We were traveling through New York and found Justin's home to be conveniently near highways, the town of New Paltz, and more. One if the best Airbnb's we have ever stayed in. We were able to relax in many areas of this home especially the screened in porch. I highly recommend this home.

    Greg2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The little yellow cottage was even better than expected! Very clean and has everything you need. An incredible place to get away and be in nature and still so close to downtown New Paltz. An awesome and unique place that has it all!

  • The pictures look just like the place. You have a private entrance, optional garage parking, your own thermostat and full bathroom. Veronie asked if we needed directions or help in area. We were fine and had a plan but I'm sure she would interact with you as much as you like. Veronie is a welcoming host in a beautiful.home. I would stay again. Thank you Veronie for the Birthday gift as well. Julianne and Sean

  • We didn't get to meet Veronie in person until we were leaving, but she could not have made the check in and check out process easier! Her place is so comfortable and relaxing, perfect for whatever amount of time you want to get away. The sitting area is delightful and the desk gives you the option to get any last minute work done you need to! Would absolutely stay again. Great area to visit and explore!

    Elizabeth2016-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Veronie is very charming and helpful. She provided us with everything we needed. The accommodations included a small fridge, microwave and coffee makers that were very handy.

    Margaret2016-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Veronie was a great host, making sure everything was set for our arrival. The place was clean and looked exactly like the photos. She even left a note with some helpful instructions, as well as pamphlets of local attractions and menus of local restaurants. While this is technically a room of the house, it has its own separate entrance and you essentially have the whole place to yourself. We had a lot of privacy, which was great. All in all, highly recommend both this Airbnb and host!

  • Great spot for a single person or couple. Clean, private and convienent.

  • Great Place! I would stay again anytime!! Veronie keeps a very clean place. She is in contact with you to make sure you are comfortable and all is well in the private room. Nice area and very close to many restaurants, shopping and scenic spots. There’s a mini fridge, coffee maker, TV with various things to watch. I was very pleased with my stay here. She always responds fast as well.

This spacious suite is peaceful, & wooded with separate entrance, patio, wifi, full kitchen, bathroom (small shower), queen bed, sleeper sofia, TV (uses fire stick, wifi & blu-ray, no cable) Local (seasonal) sites to see: Walkway over the Hudson, FDR Home & Library (Hyde Park, 14 mi.away), Culinary Institute (11 Mi), Vassar College, Highland Landing Park, Old Kingston (original site of NYS Capital), SUNY New Paltz, Antique stores of NP, Huguenot Village, Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Mtn House.
We're unique because we live in a rural setting, yet within a few miles of - Mohonk, apple orchards, vineyards, 5 colleges, The Walkway Over the Hudson, etc. We also are 10 minutes from the train to NYC. *If you come from NYC by train - we offer pickup roundtrip for $10 (please make sure you ask if you need this.)
We fondly call our neighborhood, "the Outback," because we're in the woods. 1. The biggest plus is the peacefulness and we are centrally located near SUNY New Paltz and Vassar Colleges. There are also 2 community colleges nearby as well. 2. We regularly have a family of wild turkeys, deer, and red tailed hawks coming through the yard. Of course the usual chipmunks, ground hogs and squirrels. We even had a huge, beautiful large Owl land right outside the Suite window this past spring.
  • Mark and Kit are wonderful to stay with... They are very thoughtful and check in periodically to make sure everything is going well. All the appliances are up to date and makes the kitchen nice to work in. Would like to come back some day

  • Kathen's place was just what we needed. Off the beaten path and comfortable. The room has a nice big bed and a decent sized kitchen. Would recommend to anyone needing a place of their own while visiting the New Paltz area. Thanks again Kit!

POUGHKEEPSIE: Home to 4 colleges (Vassar, Marist, Dutchess Community & The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park), Poughkeepsie is both a college town and a city in transition with a diverse blue collar urban community. With close proximity to restaurants and cultural destinations, Poughkeepsie allows you to experience the conveniences of “small city” life while only being a 10 minute drive from the country. A historic industrial port city, Poughkeepsie is currently going through an exciting resurgence, characterized by a grassroots local food movement, farm-to-table restaurants, and a number of revitalization projects, including the renowned Walkway Over the Hudson, the world’s longest pedestrian bridge spanning the width of Hudson River. The Walkway connects the Dutchess County and Ulster County rail trails, making Poughkeepsie a destination for bike enthusiasts. Vassar College and the city’s south side also make for wonderful bike routes with cute residential streets, historic homes, and lots of trees. We love Poughkeepsie for its diversity – its people, its culture – and the way it encompasses the full socio-economic spectrum, from its pristine college campuses to the developing commercial zone and restaurant scene in the historic main street corridor. Poughkeepsie is an exciting place with a unique energy, and an ideal home base for experiencing the rest of the Historic Hudson Valley. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Gray Street, where the guest house is located, is a residential, tree-lined street in a transitioning neighborhood 5 minutes from Vassar College. The neighborhood is a blend of everything from young entrepreneurs, academics, government workers, tradespeople and low income families. The guest house sits across from Forbus Butternut Park, a 1-acre greenspace overseen by a local non-profit. There is a church on the other side of the park, and the Poughkeepsie High School and football field is about 2 blocks away. During the day, kids sometimes play in the street, but for the most part it's very quiet since Gray Street isn’t a major thoroughfare. AROUND THE REGION: Because Poughkeepsie is centrally located, it makes for a great jumping off point to explore the rest of the Hudson Valley region. Towns like Beacon, New Paltz, Rosendale, Millbrook, Hyde Park and Rhinebeck are all within an easy drive with lots of things to see along the way. Hudson, The Catskills, Cold Spring, Phoenicia and the Berkshires all make for wonderful day trips – full of meandering country drives, antiquing, hiking, fishing, wine-tasting, museum-hopping, or cooling off in a swimming hole. I run a blog that’s dedicated to travel, food and culture in the region called An Upstate of Mind, and I’m happy to send along recommendations for our favorite spots tailored around whatever you like to do. The surrounding Upstate NY towns are lovely, but to make for a full day, it’s sometimes good to combine a few destinations into a “mini road trip” that lets you soak in the local flavor and experience the sprawling natural settings the Hudson Valley is known for.
  • Seth's place was a great getaway spot from the business of the city. More importantly, it was just as advertised: a well decorated, clean, modern house, with lots of natural light. I couldn't ask for a better "home away from home" feel. Seth's hospitality, however, is the biggest asset to this listing. He is a true expert on all of the upstate hot spots. I followed his recommendations diligently, and each turned out to be exactly what he had described. He sent me several emails before my arrival and throughout the weekend and all we're full of gems. As Seth would tell you, a car is a necessity for this area. I tried to avoid this, and found myself calling Enterprise early on Saturday morning. Stupidly trying to save $30 bucks led to a needless headache, although if you're TRULY just going to sit in his house, I guess you could bring groceries and use cabs. Would definitely stay again!

    Jesse2016-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's The Artist guesthouse is beautifully furnished and missing absolutely nothing for a perfect stay. He also gave us extremely helpful advice for touring the Hudson Valley. Our experience couldn't have been better. Hope to stay again soon!

    Judy2015-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Artist Guest House Apartment was as stunning in person as it was in the pictures. The home is beautifully curated, as was our stay, thanks to Seth's wonderful recommendations and great blog site. It was exactly the type of weekend escape we needed to reset before returning to the city.

    Brenda & Chris2015-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a great stay here. Seth was an amazing host - very responsive and gave tons of recommendations for things to do, places to eat in the area. The guest house was clean, bright, tidy, and exactly as pictured. The tasteful decor was unique and made it a special experience to stay here. The art work was a bonus! The location is perfect for exploring the Hudson Valley. We drove up to the Catskills and also checked out nearby towns such as New Paltz and Beacon.

    Stephanie2014-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's place is an incredibly stylish apartment near downtown Poughkeepsie. The apartment is spacious and clean with modern amenities. Seth was incredibly communicative and accommodating throughout and had a host of local recommendations. Overall, highly recommended!

    Sean2018-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at the Artist Apartment for three weeks and enjoyed my stay every day. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, very comfortable and well equipped. I love the decoration and the large windows that let so much natural light in the front and back of the home. Seth was an ideal host. He was very accessible and gave great recommendations for day tours and places to eat or shop. I am planning to go back in the future; the apartment is an ideal place to stay if you want to explore Poughkeepsie and surrounding area.

    Reyes2016-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is gorgeous. Healthy plants all around, nice sitting areas and wall decor. We had an amazing time! Seth was our own personal tour guide and sent us a great list of things to do in the area. We did as much as we could during our x-mas weekend. He was so communicative and responsive. It snowed then rained so he came by to put salt down. So sweet! Getting the key was seamless. Because of him we are already planning our next trip. We took Amtrak up and used the cabbie Seth recommended, Khalid. He was awesome! Honest about his arrival times, opened the door for us, quiet and his car was spacious and clean. We went to Frida's and Henry's in Milton (on the list), so good. Overall - fantastic host, stylish apartment, great recommendations, tasty food. Thank you!

A Scandinavian Comtemporary home with a great host!
Wonderful neighborhood up from the Hudson RIver. River views in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Quiet with a sound of the train whistle
  • The host was very accommodating especially since I requested a reservation at the last moment. Even though the host had already made plans for the evening, he stayed around until I was oriented to the house/room & the area. The room was very comfortable & peaceful. It was the ideal location in Hyde Park, NY. I would highly recommend staying here. And of course, it included a Nordic breakfast to die for! Troy the host introduced me & others to the traditional Nordic breakfast with lots of background information. The breakfast was very filling & healthy & unique.

  • Outstanding. Triple A. We sincerely enjoyed our stay with Troy. The house is lovely, the room really nice, the bed comfortable and both bed- and bathroom spotless. Just like the rest of the house. On top of that: Troy is a superhost, taking us to the beautiful Vanderbilt Gardens, giving us all kind of tips and preparing us every morning an incredible Norwegian breakfast. Troy is great, just like his two sweet cuddly dogs: Anna & Ella. Thanks Troy! Say Hi to Richard!

    Ilona2015-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Another remarkable weekend away, third time staying at Troy's is the charm... but so was the first. I always come away feeling like I traveled abroad to Norway, but thankful I'm only a few hours drive. Again, could not be more perfect!! Tusen takk Troy ~ Kathy

    Kathleen2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • I would like to thank Troy for being such as amazing host. Our experience in his house was outstanding, everything was perfect. Beautiful and cozy house located in a quiet area with views to the Hudson river. I do not have words to describe the Scandinavian breakfast. DELICIOSO! Thanks a lot Troy, we wish we could stayed more days. I am sure we will come back soon. Clara and Julio

  • Our stay at Troy's was fabulous. Troy is a master of hospitality, and keeps a perfect house for it. The decor was tasteful and unique, and gave the house a flair of extravagance. The breakfast was amazing, and the dogs were nothing but sweet. I am eager to take another stay here, and would definitely recommend anyone else on it.

    Kyle2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • A treasure along the Hudson. The beautifully designed Nordic themed home with its lovely curated moments was amazing...from a lit fire both in the pm and am, to its comfy bedding, and the simply divine 3 course breakfast. The attention to detail was superior. Best of all was the creative chef and host Troy, and his sweet pups!! I can't wait to return with my family and friends.

    Belinda2017-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • We have the most pleasant experience staying at Troy's B&B. The living room is very spacious with the beautiful plants carefully arranged, the seats are super comfortable, the view out of the large windows is serene, the relaxing background music perfects the whole picture there. The Norwegian breakfast Troy prepared is an eye-opener for me and my daughter. Each course is a piece of art! Nourishing in ingredients, pleasing to the eye! Troy is very knowledgeable about the local historic attractions. He provided us great recommendations to sites to visit and gave us quite a few nice travel brochures. He even took us to Vanderbilt mansion and Val-kill for the tours, which totally exceeded our expectations. Troy is an extraordinary host, we enjoyed every minute while we stayed there. He has many great stories to share, which is a bonus for our vacation, the experience you won't get staying at the regular hotels. This is our first airbnb experience, it proves to be the best stay we ever had during all of our travels. Thanks a bunch Troy. If ever we are in the area for vacation, I'd look you up first. I'd love to bring my family and friends to meet you.

  • We loved our stay at Cynthia's place. The house was everything and more than the listing promised. The location really could not have been better. It is just across the street from the FDR estate and presidential library. Cynthia was very informative and welcoming but not at all intrusive. She communicated with us and helped point out some Everything you could possibly need is available in the house. The beds are very comfortable and the house is beautifully done, very charming but not fussy. This is a great spot to stay when visiting Hyde Park.

A snug, rustic getaway only 75 miles from New York City. Our newly renovated barn is near fine restaurants and the banks of the Hudson River. Visit Storm King or the Walkway over the Hudson, go hiking, travel our Craft Beverages, Distilleries and Wine Trail! Take in New Paltz, Hyde Park, Woodstock, Rhinebeck for fun shops, restaurants and history. A truly gracious space with top reviews, we are easy to get to by train or car and Uber is available. Have a wonderful getaway in the Hudson Valley!
I am told again and again that our photos don't reflect the beauty and size of the space. It is quite large and very pretty! We hope you will love the antiques, artwork, and amenities. Fully renovated, it has a large great room, a galley kitchen, a dining area, a lounging/TV area, a sitting and reading corner, and a queen sleeper sofa. The separate bedroom has a queen sized bed and a washer and dryer. There is a deck for lounging, al fresco dining and enjoying the gardens. We supply handmade soaps, fair trade coffee, and Sonoma linens and high speed wifi. We are located in an old Quaker part of the village of Milton. The barn was used for the gardens and greenhouses that were part of the original larger property. There are beautiful gardens all around the house and the river is at the foot of the hill! There is also a lake behind the house and an old Quaker cemetery next door. Very friendly neighbors! However this property is not a farm; it is in an active neighborhood with country life going on. The barn was originally used for the gardens, not farm animals. Since we live on property and have close neighbors we ask that you be respectful if you are returning late at night by being quiet and turning off outside lights. Unfortunately we don't feel that our space is suitable for children under 12.
We are very central to everything the Hudson Valley offers The Poughkeepsie train station is 5 miles away and taxis, Uber, car rental and Zipcars are available from the station. We are within a short driving distance from Vassar, Marist, SUNY New Paltz, and several other colleges and schools. A partial list of attractions and distances: In Milton and Marlborough We are very fortunate to have a world class music and art venue in the neighborhood. Please make sure to drop by THE FALCON for brunch or dinner, drinks, and amazing artwork and music! We also have many fine vineyards in town; you can visit them by following our very own Shawangunk Wine trail Bad Seed Hard Cider Tasting Orchards- Fruit picking Riverfront Park Nearby Another local claim to fame, the Walkway Over the Hudson, is in Highland NY, 4 miles north. It is the highest pedestrian walkway in the world and a breathtaking experience! Make sure to take it in, it is easy to find and has lots of parking. Rail Trail Biking and Hiking-Ulster and Dutchess County Fanny Reese Park- Highland NY. Hiking Minnewaska State Park, Gardiner NY. Hiking and Rock Climbing Poughkeepsie - 4 miles: The Bardovan Theater Shopping and Restaurants the Chance Theater Civic Center Locust Grove Historic home of Samuel Morse The Ranch Skydiving Gardiner NY New Paltz -10 miles Shopping and restaurants Hiking and Climbing the "Gunks" Hyde Park- 12 miles Shopping and Restaurants Franklin D Roosevelt Home Hyde Park- 12 miles Vanderbilt Mansion Hyde Park -13 mile Storm King Art Center Cornwall NY, 20 miles West Point Military Academy Tours and Museum- 24 miles Beacon NY- 14 miles Galleries and restaurants DIA Art Foundation Colleges Marist 7 miles Culinary Institute 9 miles (several restaurants on site, reservations required) Vassar- 9 miles Mount Saint Mary 11 miles SUNY New Paltz 11 miles Kingston is 15 miles away and there are just too many attractions to list but I will mention the Rondout waterfront is amazing and you can rent kayaks there at A Day Away Kayak Rentals. • The place is great and so are the hosts. I'm sure we'll go back sometime!

  • Jennie's place is a calm, comfortable, well conceived space. Jennie was very communicative and made arrival very smooth. The barn features excellent craftsmanship and is thoughtfully designed and decorated with an interesting array of art and objects. It is fairly close to other homes, but the space felt private enough for a weekend getaway. There are excellent restaurants nearby that are worth exploring. I have a fondness for the energetic sound of trains passing and really enjoyed hearing them at a very comfortable volume level in the distance.

    Josh2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Jennie provided great communication and was very accommodating to our check in time. The cottage was super clean and very roomy. The bedroom was very comfortable. We enjoyed relaxing in the cottage and exploring the beautiful neighborhood. This was also a great base for short drives into Hyde Park and Poughkeepsie.

    Barbara2016-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The barn itself is great, beautifully renovated and charming.

  • Jennie’s place was beautiful and charming. She and Steve were great hosts and gave us spot-on recommendations for places to eat and see live music. We hope to return soon!

    Clara2018-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jennie and her husband were great hosts. They are as hands-on/off as you want them to be and filled with great tips on the area with respect to where to eat, places to go, and areas to live in (I will be moving to the area in August and this was something of a fact finding mission). They were fast to fix anything that may be wrong, provided us some nice organic coffee, and have turned that barn into a really cozy unit. The area is lovely and so isn't this apartment.

    Benjamin2016-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Warm space with farmhouse antiques, yet balanced with comfortable seating and bedding... very near orchards and vineyards, and live music venues.

  • What an incredible spot! Modern amenities, extremely clean, and the best view on the Hudson River. Centrally located to all the sights in Hyde Park. We loved coming back to this home after a long day of exploring. Jim was responsive and helpful providing lots of fun things to do in the area. We look forward to staying here again for our next visit to Hudson Valley!

    Michelle2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s place has everything you would need for a relaxing getaway. The views are incredible, there is a gas grill, and the house is clean with everything you need.

    Bonnie2018-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s place was exactly as pictured. Impeccably clean, convenient and a pleasure to come home to. The train sounds in the area and The boats going by only added to the ambience. Would love to go back.

    Karen2018-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The layout on Jim's place is amazing! Everything looks out large glass windows onto the Hudson River. Beautiful. The place as well stocked. Bathroom basics like shampoo conditioner and soap. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots plans and flatware. The gas grill outside means you can eat on the wraparound deck! Bed was very comfortable and white crisp sheets were great to sleep in. The TV is even mounted so you can pull the TV out to watch it in bed :) If you are a light sleeper, this place might not be right for you -- the train will go by at night or early in the morning. We were fine after closing the windows. The light is also amazing -- remember to put down shades/ do AC accordingly. Jim was communicative and helpful. We loved his place and would stay here for the comfortable cottage and the AMAZING view!

    Philip2018-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jim is a fantastic host - very easy to contact and very attentive to details. This cottage is exceptional and the pictures don’t even do it justice! Very private, everything is new and clean, and the view is just beautiful! We are already trying to figure out when we can go back!

    Bridget2018-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful and unique airbnb. The privacy, the quality amenities, and especially the deck and view as you relaxed over (not just overlooking) the Hudson River made us want to never leave. We did in fact enjoy many meals we brought in rather than eat out. The proximity to Hyde Park activities was perfect. And Jim is very easy to communicate with. We enthusiastically recommend this as a couple's getaway!!.

    Craig2018-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Jim's place is amazing. The space was modern and perfectly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Huge windows show off a beautiful view of the Hudson River, and there's a deck (with a grill!) to get even closer to the water. The TV swivels so you can watch from the bed or the chairs in the living room area. Jim also included thoughtful extras, like shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower and bottles of water in the fridge. We didn't really use the kitchen during our stay, but there is a full kitchen! Jim's communication was prompt and helpful, he gave us lots of recommendations of places to go in the area, and the check-in process was very easy. Would definitely stay here again!!

    Beth2018-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. Jim’s cottage was absolutely perfect. This quiet and quaint escape right on the Hudson River is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy truly spectacular views and amenities. After staying in several Airbnb’s, I can say that Jim’s place hits all the notes you need it to and more. The thoughtful touches add to the experience, including tips and suggestions from Jim on local attractions, menus from some favorite local eateries, a truly amazing mattress, bottled waters in the fridge and coffee and tea K-Cups as well as a full kitchen and grill on the porch. The cottage is so clean and well designed, with lovely fixtures and a truly amazing shower. It really has a boutique hotel feel, but with views and privacy that can’t be beat. There is a little train noise, but being from NYC, it didn’t bother us a bit and we hardly noticed it. In fact, I might say it added to the experience, along with the noises from the river as well. Jim is so welcoming and lovely. He was quite responsive leading up to the trip, sending personalized suggestions, and even stopping by on the morning of our departure to ask if we enjoyed our stay and if there was anything that would have added to it. I can’t truly say there wasn’t. It was perfect. You can tell Jim takes pride in this place, and it’s the sort of special spot you want to return to again and again. In fact we are already looking at the 2019 calendar. Can’t say enough good things about this place, it’s a must book.

Relax in a tastefully-appointed early 1900s Craftsman home. Beautiful natural light with views overlooking College Hill Park. An easy drive to Beacon, Rhinebeck, Millbrook, New Paltz, Hudson and the Catskills. A short walk to The Walkway Over the Hudson & Dutchess County Rail Trail.
A welcoming turn of the century Craftsman home located at the end of a small private street overlooking Poughkeepsie's largest green space, College Hill Park (once the grounds of a women's college). Guest Rooms 1 & 2 on the second floor feature one queen-sized bed and one full-sized bed respectively. Included with your stay: - Bedding, towels and additional linens - Wireless high-speed internet - TV (Cable & Apple TV) - Dishwasher - Microwave - Gas stove & oven - Refrigerator & freezer - Outdoor gas grill - Cooking utensils, mixing bowls, pots & pans - Dishes, eating utensils, etc. - Coffee maker (drip) - Coffee, coffee filters & tea - Hairdryer - Air conditioning
POUGHKEEPSIE: What we love about Poughkeepsie is its diversity – its people, its culture – and the way it encompasses the full socio-economic spectrum – from the pristine campus at Vassar to the developing commercial zone and restaurant scene in the historic main street corridor. Home to 4 colleges (Vassar, Marist, Dutchess Community & The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park), Poughkeepsie is both a college town and a city in transition with a diverse blue collar urban community. With close proximity to restaurants and cultural destinations, Poughkeepsie allows you to experience the conveniences of “small city” life while only being a 10 minute drive from the country. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The house is located on a quiet dead end street overlooking College Hill Park, Poughkeepsie’s largest greenspace. There are only 6 houses on the street and all the neighbors know each other. It’s a family-friendly, chill environment. We’re a block away from the Dutchess County Rail Trail, leading to the Walkway Over the Hudson (about a 10 minute walk). Reservoir Street is part of a blue collar and light commercial neighborhood. Because of its proximity to the park, the area around the house is quiet and even slightly secluded feeling since the rolling landscape blocks out the activity from the central part of the city.
  • Beautiful house, fantastic host. A group of 5 of us spent our New Year's Eve/Day in Poughkeepsie just to escape the NYC madness. Seth called about a week prior to our stay confirm that we were all set and to answer any questions regarding Poughkeepsie and our stay. I have to say, the house is incredible. We spent our first hour there exploring, looking at paintings and examining antiques. Every time you walk through a room you discover something new and interesting. The kitchen was perfect for cooking, the bedrooms cozy and comfortable and the entire place was extremely clean. Our only disappointment was that we weren't able to have breakfast on the adorable front porch because it was 15 degrees out! :-) Seth's place is also just a short distance from the train station and the downtown area and other local attractions. High recommend a stay here!

    Ray2014-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Seth has a cozy and lovely spot in Poughkeepsie. Six of us left the city for a relaxing weekend, and had such a pleasant time. Seth provided us with recommendations, directions, and all sorts of accommodating suggestions. Great house, great host.

    Liz2014-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at this Hudson Valley charmer. The dining room table affords a large group of people and the kitchen was perfect to cook up an amazing family dinner. We loved Seth's art collection and as well as his collection of antiquities. We will definitely stay again!

  • Seth was really on top of it... sending greeting messages and details of great places to eat. Would definitely recommend for adults. (too nice for kids unless they are keen not to touch.

  • It is a beautiful house with a vast collection of objects from the past century. The stay was warm and comfortable. Seth pointed out very nice spots for dining out and spending recreational time. The location is perfect as a base to visit the Hudson Valley. Highly recommended!

    Marco2013-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay. It was like being at home in a great little town. Seth made us feel very much at home and had great recommendations for the area. Would stay here again in a heart beat!

    Dan2016-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Seth was in every way an extraordinary host. This house is a true gem in a yet-to-be gentrified part of Poughkeepsie, NY. The house is beautifully decorated with an eclectic mix 20th century classics, carefully curated artwork and original posters. There are also a some fascinating antique machines on display. We're a couple who really appreciate good taste when we see it and Seth's home is truly enchanting. We'd definitely stay again when in the area.

    Ole2018-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful AirBnB! We were here for a wedding and found this to be a perfect spot to relax with old friends and get ready for the event at Vassar College. It was even more lovely than the photos can show. While it was an incredibly hot weekend, there were air conditioners throughout the house. Seth was easy to get in touch with and replied quickly. We'd definitely recommend this spot.

Baseboard heat included We can accommodate up to three people- Camping and tented options available (you provide the tent) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Can I get to the house without a car? A: The house is about 20-minutes driving from the Beacon train station. If you choose not to drive the whole way there are Zipcar pickups at the train station (reserve in advance!) and Uber/LYFT launched in the area ($20-$30 for the ride from the train). A car is highly recommended (especially if you want to explore the area), but this definitely makes things possible for the car-free—just be sure to show up with everything you need for the stay as the farm is in a semi-rural area that is not particularly walkable. Q: Do I need to bring towels or linens? What about a hairdryer? A: Nope! I provide all these things. Including Keihls + Glossier body products Q: How will I receive the key? A: The house features a keyless lockbox that has a one time code Q: Is the place professionally cleaned between guests? A: Yes, and I take pride in providing a clean home for guests. Q: What's up with the cleaning fee? A: I get a lot of questions about this, so I'll just break it down so you understand why it is what it is: All of (except10$) that goes directly to my cleaner. She is a professional who does an exceptional job and who I insist on compensating fairly for her work. A: No. One last thing: I really, really appreciate that you followed directions and read the whole thing. Please put the phrase "I see Moonshadows!" at the top of your message so I know you did so as such bookings tend to go so much smoother! And thanks for hanging in there!
Vineyards, Orchards, and wine trails and nature. The tiny house is situated on a 30-acre farm in the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley. Guests have total privacy but are joined on the farm by the main farm house, a smaller residence with live-in caretakers that can help out in case of an emergency, and one other tiny house. Around the farm are views of rolling vineyards and apple orchards— we are on the Shawangunk wine trail and literally minutes away from Bad Seed orchards and other cider houses. Downtown Main St. is minutes away and has a few lovely nightlife and dining options, and the hopping town of Beacon (home of the Dia; Beacon) is about 20 minutes away. Storm King Art Center (a must) is also about 25 minutes away. Also nearby are Woodstock, Hudson, Kingston, New Paltz, Cold Spring Poughkeepsie, and countless other Hudson Valley destinations.

Our place is all about comfort and convenience! It is under 5 mins from the NYS Thruway and not far from public transport. Close to nature, Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve, rock climbing, skydiving, Walkway Over the Hudson, Rail Trails and much more. Located less than 10 mins. from the fun and friendly village of New Paltz and in the heart of the amazing Hudson Valley full of activities, farms, restaurants and bars. The house is great for couples, solo adventurers and business travelers.
Our charming farmhouse is set on approximately one acre. The back of the property is forest, with many beautiful old trees around. There has been several exciting wildlife sightings, like foxes, bald eagles, turtles and more! The house is spacious, clean and welcoming. It is never a full time residence so it is not cluttered with daily living items. When you walk into the house you enter the well-stocked, eat-in kitchen (which guests have complete but shared access to). Up the stairs and to the right you will find a beautifully and thoughtfully prepared master bedroom with natural light, views of gorgeous trees and amenities including a Sealy Posturpedic King Size bed, high quality bedding, room darkening shades, TV with streaming capabilities (BYOL--bring your own login-info), a window unit air conditioner (during the summer months), a free-standing fan and an empty dresser and closets for your use. Attached to the bedroom is the master bathroom that will be private to our guests. Both the bedroom and bathroom is private and lockable for the duration of your visit.
The house is situated in a mixed use area, which makes for many great conveniences. Very close by there is a mini-market with a deli, a liquor store, a diner, a gas station and a great Mexican Restaurant. Down the road there's some classic Hudson Valley farmland with an orchard that has a great local farm store, has hard cider tastings and has gourmet wood fired pizzas overlooking the awesome orchard landscape during the warmer months. The house is backed by forest and the yard has several beautiful old trees. A few things to note about the nearest neighboring properties. Since the area is mixed use, there are residential homes, as well as a small water treatment facility, a garden nursery and a backyard firewood business next door. We have rarely experienced issues relating to these neighboring properties. It’s just kind of a unique neighborhood. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.

  • Central Poughkeepsie location, easy access to downtown, walkway and Hudson river. Nice place, good size kitchen, full bath. Just what I needed for my stay!

    Michael2018-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • The listing was accurate and the room is very clean, but the area where the Airbnb is located was not what I expected. The downtown area of Poughkeepsie is pretty empty with not much going on. The Airbnb was close to the train station, but not much else. Otherwise the room was very clean and Van was a great host!

    Allie2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Van is very personable & wonderful!

    Janet2016-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • If you need a space to stay within reach to The Grandview, train station or local spots; Van's place is nice and a great value for what was needed! He was very accommodating to what my boyfriend and I needed and available to communicate with. His place was nice, clean and the little touches were not only thoughtful but unexpected. I would gladly stay there again if I was down in Poughkeepsie. Thank you very much!

Bedroom with flat screen wall mounted television with cable and wifi. There is also a DVD player for movie night. The room is near the kitchen where complimentary snacks are available. The kitchen, bathroom, and living room are all shared spaces
It's very quiet and family friendly. The neighbors promote safety while observing privacy.
  • Close to everything in the area. Parking too!

    Deborah2017-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Van sent me a message letting me know where the key was to the room. It was clean & compact but adequate for a single traveller. He provided toiletries and snacks and a bottle of wine which was really appreciated as I had driven a long way that day and was too tired to go out. I couldn't get the wifi to work which was a problem although Van was making every effort to guide me in the process. We never actually met which was a pity as part of the AirBnB process should be to meet people. I would recommend the place for value and convenience to the Hyde Park area

    Nigel2016-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described! Clean, Comfortable, Great Location, Off Street Parking.. What more could you ask for? Van was a great host and was very prompt with communication. I would Definitely stay here again and the waterfront is Beautiful.

    Nicholas2016-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • The description of the room is accurate and Van's place is very welcoming and clean. There is easy parking on the side of the building. We were only there for a night so Van's place was ideal for us. Communication was great and Van was always responsive to any questions we had. I would definitely recommend staying here. Thanks for everything, Van!!!

    Truong2016-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at Van's! The room was exactly as pictured, and the snacks and wine were a nice plus after a long day on the road. There was a little mix-up when I arrived and wasn't sure how to get into the house, but Van called me back ASAP and told me where to find the keys. Would stay again!

    Kiah2016-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • It's a so beautiful and comfortable room.

    Amy2017-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • I came up to Poughkeepsie for a wedding and needed somewhere to shower, change, and crash after the festivities--all within walking distance from the wedding venue. Van's place was exactly what I needed. It was affordable, well-located and comfortable. He was willing to be flexible with me on check-in time, and his instructions for getting into the space were clear and straightforward.

    Dante2017-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • Van's place was perfect for what I needed! The parking lot for guests was ideal due to the lack of street parking, and the apartment was well furnished and comfortable. My room was clean and the wifi worked! Definitely recommend!

Family oriented , tree filled, bird filled, chipmunk filled ... Nice atmosphere! But close to everything.
  • 11 out of 10 - the very best. Kindest people, very generous, thoughtful about the big things (arrival, keys, communication) and the little extra things (mints, bike storage, kitchen usage, food, directions, etc.) My friend also stayed with me for his first Airbnb night - I told him this is likely the best Airbnb experience he will ever have :) Thanks Loraine!

    Lauren2016-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the blue room, which was comfortable and cheerful, as described. Loraine and her family were all very friendly, and great hosts who clearly thought through how to address guests' needs and comfort. The entire home was cozy, welcoming, and lively. It felt like we were there to stay with friends we simply had not met before! Would highly recommend it.

    Mor2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • For a quick one night stay (and as a first timer to AirBnb), Lorraine's place was great. Lorraine was very responsive to my messages prior to my stay. She also allowed me to check in a little earlier because I had an event to go to immediately after. Even though she wasnt around during the time I arrived, there were lots of helpful messages around the house designating where things were and general ground rules of the house (aka clean up after yourself, extra pillows are in X place). When I returned from my event (returning late night), Lorraine was present and cheerfully greeted me. The next morning I met another Airbnb guest who was also staying at house and she was super nice; we chatted over a cup of coffee. Lorraine's place was very welcoming and very homey, great for a quick one-night stay or for a couple of days.

  • Neelam and Rocky are very welcoming. They are just starting with Airbnb and are eager to learn ways to make guests stay better. The place was very clean and breakfast was delicious. I would stay here again.

    Robyn2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an amazing value. Wonderful accommodating hosts; awesome location next to the Hudson bridge walkway, restaurants, and hiking trails; super clean; and our hosts prepared one of the most delicious breakfasts I have ever had in my life. Our hosts went above and beyond in every respect.

    Andrea2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here with my wife and mother in law. Our host Neelam was very nice and hospitable. The bedrooms were private, and the beds were very comfortable. Neelam even offered to make us breakfast in the morning, but since we already had plans, she provided us with smoothies instead. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

    John2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • this was a great location to stay at. the walkway is an amazing experience. the food at every restaurant was excellent. be weary at night. be cautious. everything closes early.

    Melinda2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, we did not get to meet these hosts during our stay. We checked-in via lockbox. Figuring out lights and instructions was a bit confusing at first, but no real issues. We told the hosts we needed to leave early, which apparently caused confusion over the breakfast that was supposed to be included, so we never got that. We did access the Walk Over the Hudson a few blocks away from the house, but did not see much else around to visit.

    Meagan2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Rocky was an amazing host. He made sure I had everything I needed. Chatted with me for a bit but gave me my space. Made me delicious breakfast and showed me beautiful family photos. I felt very comfortable in his home. I didn’t get a chance to walk over the hudson but I will come back and stay at Rocky’s and Neelam’s. He also gave me a lot of other ideas of nice places around. Thanks Rocky!

  • The place to stay in Poughkeepsie! Neelam’s place was very clean and cozy and felt very homey. Neelam and her husband were very hospitable and friendly and made our stay so nice! • Tom and Mo left us dog bowls and old sheets for the dogs to sleep on which was very thoughtful of them. They included many useful things throughout the apartment including bug spray, anti itch cream, feminine products, a cooler bag, and much more. We found these to be very useful and overall had an enjoyable stay.

  • Where to begin? As someone said in a previous review, Ray and Irene have raised the bar for airbnb experiences. We were up for Vassar graduation as well as moving our youngest out of his college. We had a very busy schedule which meant that the thoughtful and copious food selection, bottle of wine, well-equipped kitchen, stylish immaculate bathroom, lovely soaps and bubble bath, etc were all much appreciated. Everything you need if you are attending functions. BUT then when we had time for fun, we had a lovely lovely view, firepit (Irene delivered fresh smore's ingredients), swimming tub, grill, fishing and canoeing! We just had such a good time hanging out and relaxing between our events. Thank you to Ray and Irene!

    Mary Beth2018-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Ray and Irene's Red Barn at Turtle Pond was the perfect place for me to stay while attending a week-long boot camp at the Culinary Institute of America. Ray and Irene are great hosts — welcoming and responsive. And the Red Barn is spacious (open plan, high ceiling, sky lights) and cozy (in terms of furniture and decoration, I mean) at the same time, full of character and style, in a beautiful spot, with plenty of peace and quiet. Ray and Irene's own house is on the property, close enough that they are available if needed but far enough to give guests privacy. I appreciated the fact that, although you enter the barn at ground level, the living space is upstairs, with large windows offering nice views out the front and back of the living space. I look forward to returning!

    David2018-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ray and Irene's barn is an absolute gem. 15 mins from Rhinebeck, it is set beside an orchard and in front of a lake with geese and horses grazing on the other side. Ray and Irene greeted us at check in and made sure we were completely comfortable. A bottle of wine was waiting for us, a fully stocked fridge as were other items including beautiful eggs from their chickens. The barn itself is gorgeous and my wife, son and two dogs had a lovely stay during our visit from NYC. Their hospitality and attention to detail is second to none and we'd love to return. This is the blueprint for how AirBnB should be.

    Mark2018-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Red Barn was wonderful. This was by far the best B&B we have stayed in. Every thoughtful detail made us feel at home. We loved the stock tank pool! By the end of the first day we were already thinking about when we can visit again.

    Jackie2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • As our first airbnb, it will be reaaaal tough to find a place to rival this one. Amazing attention to detail and comfort. Excellent hospitality, company and just a all around amazing experience. We left with happy and content hearts, grateful for the time that we spent here.

    Tasnim2018-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down, the BEST AirBnB experience I've had. Ray & Irene were wonderful hosts, going above and beyond to make our stay special. The barn and the grounds are breathtaking - we can't wait to come back!

    Lauren2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Red Barn at Turtle Rock Pond couldn't have been any better! Ray and Irene are fantastic hosts. The home itself is amazing - filled with rustic charm yet fully modernized. Even the pull-out bed was comfortable! The goodies which were left in the room for breakfast and snacks were such a nice treat. I highly recommend this room if you are staying in the Hudson Valley area.

  • Mariama and her son went out of her way to make sure I had a hassle-free trip. The bedroom was quiet and clean. Mariama offered to pick me up from the train station- due to travel delays, I ended up having a friend drive me around. However, her son was kind enough to take me back to the train station in the morning. I would absolutely love to stay there again.

Though in a residential neighborhood, amenities are under ten minutes away and the area is readily accessible. The cat, Oreo, is as cute as can be and always greeted me outside.

  • We had a really nice time! The carriage house is very cozy and the surrounding neighborhood is a great area. Its quiet and peaceful and the bed is so comfortable! Billiam gave us a warm welcome and left us some apples from his farm to take home! He was accessible via text and gave us some good recommendations. The bathroom and kitchen have pretty much anything you might need. The whole house is very clean, decorated, and well kept. Our first AirBnB experience was a pleasure!

  • Nna and Billiam's cottage was the most lovely experience I ever had on AirBnb. We arrived earlier than scheduled but they managed to meet us in time. The 2-story house is roomy and looks bigger than on the pictures. There are many lovely little vintage decor in the room. Full of surprises. The surrounding is extremely safe, quiet and beautiful. We are welcomed to park on the premise. The house is close to FDR museum, Vanderbilt Mansion and the Hyde Park. It is a great place for retreat!

  • The carriage house was perfect. Well appointed, comfortable, quiet, private, and a short 5 minutes stroll to the farm. Thanks for your wonderful hospitality!

  • Well decorated house, we loved the fireplace. It's a short drive to New Paltz, Highland and the Tuthilltown Distillery. Not much within walking distance so a car is recommended. Although it can technically sleep up to 6 people I think it's ideal for a couple since there's one bedroom, and it's separated from the living area by a staircase (no door). Agree with the other reviews about the mattress— super comfortable. We didn't meet the hosts but they were very responsive via text and Airbnb message.

  • This is a great place to stay for weddings in the Highland area. Billiam was very hospitable and we were very happy with our stay.

  • I had a wonderful stay here! The space was perfect for me, it was clean, spacious, in a quiet area, had what I needed as far as the kitchen, the bed was very comfy with a down comforter and there were plenty of towels. I would absolutely recommend this spot to future guests!

  • Seth's place is wonderful and we appreciated all the little touches — nice towels/bedding, quality shower products, beautiful furniture. It was the perfect, cozy getaway that we were looking for. The best part though was Seth's extremely detailed note on everything to do in and around Poughkeepsie! We used it as our guide and we had a phenomenal time. I couldn't recommend his place and the experience more highly!

    Kim2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's apartment inside is as it was described and the photos are very accurate, it's well decorated inside and the check-in instructions were great and we checked in and checked out with no problem at all. We booked this accommodation as we were going to a wedding nearby and struggled to find somewhere to stay that was self-catering. Personally, the location was not right for us, it is a neighbourhood which on first impressions wasn't great. We were quite disappointed when we arrived. The neighbourhood was quite lively the first night we arrived and at the other end of the street there were lots of young people hanging around outside, sitting in cars, smoking, listening to music etc. We didn't know the area at all but didn't feel all that comfortable being there with our young son. Perhaps this wouldn't be an issue for other travellers though. We had a car - you would definitely need one as the location is a residential area with no shops.

    Louise2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was beautifully decorated and had everything we could have needed! Seth provided thorough information about places to go and things to do in the area; we had a full itinerary already but managed to hit 2 of his restaurant recommendations, and they were both wonderful. This was my first Airbnb experience, but not my last!

    Frann2014-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • The interior design of the apartment is amazing, and it's equipped with everything one would need for a comfortable stay. The apartment is conveniently located in a residential neighborhood in town, and it was very easy to navigate to the surrounding areas. Prior to our arrival, the host provided a list of helpful and informative suggestions for things to do. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

  • I found The Poet Guest House to be exactly as described. I was visiting Poughkeepsie for a Vassar College event and it’s less than a mile from campus, so very convenient. I’m a middle aged woman and felt very safe and comfortable in the home. The bed was very comfortable and I loved the furnishings. Every meal I had was at the suggestion of Seth, and all were excellent. The unexpected gift was Seth’s thorough knowledge of places to eat within an hours drive, and suggestions of things to do in the surrounding towns. While I didn’t have time for those things on this trip, I plan to file away his research! I would stay here again if I’m up in that area.

  • Linda is the sweetest person and the perfect host. Her guest suite was the perfect choice for us as we were going through the trauma of moving out of our home of 30 years. We loved coming home to her cozy and well equipped home and each night had a wonderful sleep. Our morning walks were so nice in her lovely neighborhood with stellar views. And our favorite sushi was only 10 minutes away! We will definitely stay here during our future visits to the Hudson Valley!

    Becky2018-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Linda's place when I traveled from NC to attend some family functions and visit some dear friends I hadn't seen in 23 years since my move from Poughkeepsie. Linda's place was perfect for me. Plenty of space and very centrally located to all of the events I attended. The booking process all the way through text communication during the trip was quick and easy. Linda's house is in a great neighborhood, and you really have complete privacy with a separate entrance to the apartment. I would not hesitate staying with Linda again the next time I plan to visit the area.

  • Unfortunately we woke up covered in pet hair, itchy, and had to leave immediately. Will not return. Please be aware, if you have allergies, this place is a real danger. I have several pictures And also audio recording of the dog barking after 9 pm. Will never ever EVER use Airbnb again. We left half hour ago and my throat still hurts and I'm wheezing. Not ok.

  • This was my first experience using Airbnb and I am so grateful that Deborah was the hostess. Everything about the stay was awesome. Unfortunately, my wife and I were only able to stay for one quick over night. We loved the room, the privacy, and those adorable dogs! Hopefully next trip out that we can stay at this location.

    Matthew2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stay, Deborah made us feel at home quickly.

    Anthony2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was exactly what we needed. Fair price and loved the kashi bars.

    Damian2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • The place is very near to market and we enjoyed the stay. We will come back to stay.

    Raj2018-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie was quick to accept our reservation request and her communication was fast and helpful. Check in was so easy and she even offered us cheese and crackers when we arrived! Her place is within driving distance of many restaurants, shops and parks. We felt safe in her home and in her neighborhood. There was a heatwave while we were in town. She has a lovely above ground swimming pool that she said we could use...wish we had brought our swimsuits!!

    Tammy2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • I was visiting Fishkill NY, we made the reservation only a few hours before we showed up, Deborah’s husband was there to check us in, he is such a sweet heart. The bed and room are super comfortable, they have 2 dogs they are super friendly. Everyone was very nice, anytime I needed anything they responded really quick. During checkout he made sure how our stay went. After I checked out I realized I had lost my wedding ring, it’s been in my family for 3 generations!!! They found it for me and brought it to me!!! I can’t thank them enough, no words are enough to express my gratitude!! With that said I would definitely stay again!!! They are amazing host !

  • A better deal doesn’t exist.! Clean, charming place with a very caring, thoughtful and helpful host. I had an extremely pleasant stay and would recommend 100%

  • I stayed at Beborahs place for one night while attending a wedding in the area. Communication and check-in and check out were smooth and I appreciated their flexibility to allow an early check-in so I did not need to drive from Boston in wedding attire in the heat of the summer. They provided everything I needed, reliable wifi, secure off street parking, a clean bathroom and in room AC I could adjust to my preference. Recommend to other guests.

An amazing experience! Staying in the Love Shack gave us an insight on how it's going to be when we buy our tiny home. Being out in the Love Shack will make you feel close to nature. Bob is a super host, he made us feel welcomed the moment we met him. He was easy to get in contact with throughout our stay. His knowledge of the area is bar none, we took his suggestion of going out to eat at the "Eggs Nest" and the food was outstanding! All in all we plan on visiting the Love Shack again during the warm months, so we can do the 12 mile hike that behind the Love Shack. Cannot wait to go back!

The space was warm and very welcoming...lots of natural wood. Uwe's homemade bread was absolutely fabulous...crusty and tasty. He graciously drove us to Nature's Market so we could buy our evening meal and bent over backward to make us feel at home.
