Spend a unforgettable holiday in the enchanting surroundings of the town of Cisternino (reachable from the near airports of Bari and Brindisi). Trullo Edera offers a heaven of peace and tranquillity, set in an elevated position with a stunning view. It's the perfect place if you like nature. You can stay under an olive tree reading a good book, you can have a walk in the small country streets or go to the nearest beaches. You can even easily visit any of the sights in Apulia such as the caves of Castellana, the trulli of Alberobello, the baroque cities of Lecce and Martina Franca, the excavations of Egnazia, the zoosafari of Fasano, Castel del Monte with Frederick's castle, Grottaglie famous for its ceramics, Taranto, Brindisi and Lecce museums. Prices vary on period and are to be considered included: in-outcoming cleanings, towels, sheets, water, gas, electricity.
  • Anna and her family are wonderful host! Anna is very sweet, kind and friendly person. she picked and dropped us to Brindisi city. she even showed us Cisternino town. House is beautiful, like a fairytale house. It is huge and very comfortable. one can relax, cook and enjoy nearby beautiful towns (cisternino..), also their farm. they have bicycle too. They left so many wonderful food items in Trullo for us. all the items from their farm and also homemade stuff like lemon jam. everything was just amazing. Hope to stay at their Trullo and meet this wonderful family again.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Anna’s Trullo. Anna was incredibly helpful and responsive. The pleasant surprise for us was the setting— sometimes rural looking Airbnbs can turn out to be in less than appealing settings (eg on a busy road) since that is harder to tell from the posting. Not the case here! The home is on an beautiful piece of land filled with green grass, olive trees, and old stone walls, and is next to Anna and her family’s homes, with a few neighboring Trulli scattered around but no close by neighbors (which is great). The location is also convenient to the town of Cisternino (~10 minute drive), and Alberobello, Martina Franca, and Locorotondo are also nearby (~25-45 minutes), which we had fun exploring as easy day trips. There are also beaches nearby but we didn’t visit as it was March. It was also fun to tour the other trullo Anna rents out (two bedrooms, with a lovely patio facing the view), and another one she is finishing refurbishing now- they are all essentially right next to each other so we hope to come back again with our family and rent all three! One note- from this trullo, one cannot sit and take in the view, as the patio wall is too high to see out onto the landscape, so if you are looking to sit and enjoy a landscape take the adjoining two bedroom that has the patio facing the view. We still had a lovely time sitting outside having our breakfast and reading in the sun, and took in the landscape via plenty of walks and drives, but just wanted to note for others who are curious.

  • Anna's trullo is a wonderful place for a break in this beautiful region. It's a huge and secluded space to relax with great amenities. Her mother gave us a very friendly welcome and Anna was always helpful. A car is essential but it's well situated for exploring the surrounding towns. We found the trullo a little chilly in winter but there were plenty of blankets and the fireplace kept us warm. Recommended!

  • If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in a serene setting this is the Trulli to come to. Host and family are great and the home is as magical as the setting. Hope to come back very soon

  • We loved our stay at Anna's trullo, and wish we had scheduled more time there as two nights was not enough. Anna and her mother were friendly and helpful at check-in, and the snacks left for us were much appreciated. The kitchen was well-equipped so we were able to do some cooking. It was a perfect home base from which to explore the other towns and sights in Puglia.

  • In July 2014 we spent a wonderful week at I Sette Coni - Trullo Edera. The trullo was exactly as advertised and everything we had dreamt of. The trullo is cosy, well equipped and we especially loved the secluded little garden. It is situated 5 minutes by car from Cisternino in quiet and beautiful surroundings with lots and lots of olive trees, almond trees, vine and rows of tomatos. As others have mentioned: A car is absolutely a must. What really make this place stand out, however, is the host. Anna and her family are extremely open minded, welcoming and warm hearted. Always ready to help with practical information about the local area as well as info about local life in general. As non-italian speakers it was of great value that Anna is fluent in English and we really enjoyed our walks with her in the area where we got to know more about the history and customs of the area, how olives are harvested and processed, how to enjoy fresh almonds from the trees and lots more. We quickly came to see her as a friend more than anything else. Annas mum, Tonia and dad, Marco do not speak English, but that really didn't make much of a barrier for communication. They are both very smiling and forthcoming and with gestures and mimics and italian Words, which were not aware that we knew, it was very possible to have meaningful and enjoyable conversations. Every now and then Tonia dropped by with small homemade treats: A bunch of eggs or a handful of tomatos, a bottle of olive oil and not least a wonderful tasty freshly baked foccacia. We can whole heartedly recommend Annas trulli to anyone looking to experience the Heart of Puglia. Don't forget to book well in advance because this is becoming a popular place and we fully understand why. Actually were we were considering not leaving good recommandations, as we know it will make it even harder for us booking this place in case we want to come back .. which we are sure we will :-)

Grazie ancora ! Cordiali Saluti Gianluca e Romina

The world famous Seashell house is a gated property .... owners/architects live next door. You will have a private pool, two king beds , kitchenette and BBQ and entire property, both shells . In shell wifi, air conditioning. I am proud to enable your stay . Enjoy a day or more feeling like a celebrity as passers by will seek to look in with intrigued expressions.
My dear friends Raquel and Eduardo Ocampo designed and built the Seashell House and for many years no one knew that it was possible to stay here and fewer knew how to arrange a stay. I decided it was too special to keep to myself and I invited the world via AIRBNB !!! Raquel and daughter Vane are your hosts at this unique island paradise . If crowded pools, lobby's and the "tourist bubble" are not your idea of an escape then the SEASHELL HOUSE may be the perfect place for your stay in ISLA MUJERES. Nearest airport : Cancun International Nearest port :. Puerto Juarez (downtown Cancun adjacent) or Playa Tortugas (Cancun hotel zone) Nearest beach : we face the rocky north side of the island and the best beach is north beach which is 15 minutes away by golf cart. El Garrafon snorkel park is a short distance in the opposite direction. Maximum guests is exactly as specified ...there is space for four . Isla Mujeres is 7 km long and 650 meters wide. Arrive by convenient taxi (6USD)or by golf cart(35 USD PER DAY) to THE SEASHELL HOUSE(S) PRIVATE GATED PROPERTY IN RESIDENTIAL ISLA MUJERES ISLAND ~ PRIVATE POOL ~ ONE KING BED IN EACH HOUSE The residential area is on a cliff side of the tiny island to allow privacy. You are not right in the middle of all the tourists but getting to the most beautiful beaches is easy with a golf cart or taxi. Of course, privacy is sometimes lost as tourists on golf carts notice the spectacular architecture and stop to gawk over the fence making you suddenly understand how celebrities feel. The smaller rounder shell has an immaculate KING BED and private bath with shower and a tv with a wide array of channels in English and in Spanish. The private bath with shower is made of tile and shells . The taller shell has a sitting area downstairs and KITCHENETTE with a large fridge, microwave, gas stovetop and sink with all the tools you need to enjoy meals . The round sitting area also has a tv with satellite channels. There is also a half bath off the sitting area. Up a rounded staircase is the master bedroom with a KING BED and private bath with shower. There is a balcony over looking the pool and across the street , the Caribbean Sea. Wifi is provided for free in the QUEEN CONCH Every room in the house has a remote controlled air conditioner. Towels - linens and soap are provided of course :) Ample parking for your golf cart or scooter. Tiny geckos make there home in and around the property, and all over Mexico, so if cute little geckos freak you out and will disturb your stay then do not come to the Seashell house. Come to Isla Mujeres for a vacation that you will never forget, one that you will have fond memories of all year long...until you come . The houses sleep FOUR PEOPLE TOTAL. There is one king bed in each house. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE HISTORY : In 1994 architect Eduardo Ocampo arrived in Isla Mujeres and built a house for himself (and later met his wife Maria Raquel) His brother Octavio Ocampo visited frequently, Eduardo had two pieces of land in a quaint residential area with caribbean sea views....and wished to build on his lot for his brother. Of course, this could not be any house. Octavio, a famous painter and needed something unique. Eduardo at first wanted a palala...but this was not allowed...having been very influenced by the "mountains" of seashells all around, he was inspired to actually construct a seashell. This would be the vacation home of his brother (in Cuernavaca) , it would be rounded on the inside, the spiral staircase... just inside the shell, a door where there was the mouth of the shell and windows with the form of shells THE LEGEND : Years later Eduardo would be tickled to learn that the islanders had created a sort of legend which goes like this ... The fisherman of Isla Holbox met with the fisherman of Isla Mujeres to boast of their individual islands...Isla Holbox sounded "Our island is where you find the biggest fish in the world !" The fisherman of Isla Mujeres responded "We are proud to have the biggest shell in the world !" The biggest shell ? Yes the biggest shell !!! When we found it we made ceviche for all of the islanders...and then we sold it to a gringo that lives in it now !" Though the owners are not gringos...they still laugh when they hear the legend. Guests can use the BBQ and parking lot . Raquel and her daughter Vanessa are at the adjacent property . If you cannot find her for your needs you may interact with cleaning or pool staff or leave a message . The neighborhood is beautifully peaceful and quiet . At night it is very dark and very serene . A golf cart is necessary as the Seashell House is located in a residential area. I serve to make your stay possible as I wanted to share it with the world but Raquel is the owner ... Please treat the homes with respect so that she continues to enjoy renting
Residential area of Isla Mujeres is unique..away from the tourists and busy hotels...you can enjoy the stars at night and be incredibly tranquil.

  • Really was an amazing house the floor plan, layout, and all the details and work that went into building this house. Mosquitoes are no joke but we were warned.

    Douglas2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great experience at the Seashell House. Vanessa communicated clearly and answered all of my questions and made the necessary van and golf cart reservations for us. She met us at the ferry, shared lots of information, and made great recommendations. She was incredibly hospitable and we can't wait to return to the island one day.

  • The stay in The Seashell House (Casa Caracol) was unbelievable, it was like living for a couple of days in one of the Gaudi's creations (but without hoards of tourists :)), although golf carts and taxies stop by outside and some want to take a picture. This house is an architecture wonder with so much attention to every detail. Beautiful at daylight and magical at night. Hosts are wonderful and communication process was very good. Everyone who gets a chance to stay there can consider themselves lucky and it will be one of the most memorable experiences to remember. Hope we can stay there again!

Escape civilization to this incredible and peaceful getaway! Reconnect with nature and disconnect from technology on your own private deck surrounded by pristine and untouched nature just a short drive away from LA.
This is the personal Airstream of a nature-loving Malibu designer who built it as his personal getaway from his busy hectic schedule. Stripped down to its bare aluminum studs, the airstream has been redesigned into a large studio with three large frameless glass panels that slide open to a huge cantilevered deck with unrivaled views of the pristine Santa Monica mountains rolling down to the Pacific ocean below. Lounge in our luxury extra thick wool rugs and cotton poufs, drive down to surf one of Malibu's best breaks or go hike Sandstone Peak (Santa Monica's highest mountain). But whatever you do, make sure not to miss the incredible sunsets off our deck. At night, watch the milky way appear and count the constellations above or the moon reflect on the ocean below. And if the wind is right, listen to the sounds of the crashing waves travel up the canyon or even the seals barking down below. And then at dawn, if you're lucky with the morning fog, wake up above the clouds like you are the only person in this planet. VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT CLICK ON THE AIRBNB LINK FOR DIRECTIONS as it might take you to the wrong location. Only use the accurate directions provided on our itinerary. If you don't you might get lost and we are not responsible if you do not follow our easy and foolproof directions. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS LISTING if you are afraid of nature or its creatures. Understand you are surrounded by thousands of completely untouched nature. You are very likely to hear (or see) coyotes, owls, seals, roadrunners and bunnies. There is a bobcat in the area but these are usually very skittish. There are a mice in the Santa Monica mountains. About once a month, a guest will complain that they saw a mouse. Said mouse might come into the airstream if food is left outside the fridge. We do not offer refunds if a mouse comes into the airstream but we do have 4 traps around the airstream so the odds are heavily stacked against the mice. In three years we have yet to ever see a rattle snake near the airstream so the area is definitely not prone to them. This listing is weather dependent. If there is a high chance of rain scheduled during your stay we reserve the right to cancel the reservation due to potential slippery road conditions and the fact that we have to store all the expensive furniture inside the airstream. The beauty of this experience lies in seeing infinite views and yet no trace of humankind. Sleeping with the doors open, under the milky-way while hearing the ocean waves crashing below and the occasional seal barking in the distance or coyote howling for its pack. Our guests have the most special nights here. Reconnect with nature and disconnect from technology :-)
Circle x ranch, county line beach, matador beach, zuma as well as many other hikes are all less than 10mn away.

  • Absolutely Stunning! Epic Location as described! Christian was very easy to speak with. Cant wait to go back.

    ryan2016-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the most beautiful and unique Airbnb listings I have been to. The view is incredible and the airstream is beautifully renovated. I would love to go back. Thanks Rani!

    Holly2016-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of the most amazing experiences. Pictures do not do it justice! Christian was so accommodating. I booked the airstream the night before (literally hours before check in time), and he got back to me right away in the morning. Everything was set up and clean by the time we arrived. Trust me, this is so worth the price! The view is breathtaking during the day, and the stars are unreal at night. I definitely will be making this a yearly trip...maybe even monthly.

    Grace2015-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is MAGICAL!! Will definitely stay here again! The drive is a bit intimidating but worth it!

    Stephanie2016-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was amazing. The $$$ was definitely worth it once you see it in-person. Once in a lifetime views of the sunset and stars. A few things we did right: 1. Got up to the Airstream before the sun started going down. Would be hard to find otherwise. 2. Brought a very easy to make dinner, snacks, and a lot of water. 3. Enjoyed our time listening to music with a speaker I brought, reading, hanging out with the neighbors dog (who we called Charlie only because we didn't know it's name) and looking at the stars. Few things to note: 1. Only follow (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps to get to the road- but follow her instructions closely. 2. We drove up in a Chevy Volt (not the best off-reading vehicle). We got up there- but would have been easier in an SUV. 3. Remember your way up the mountain- because we took the wrong way down and it wasn't good for the car- or the other person who caught us going the wrong way and had to back-up on a mountain. The stay was great and we will definitely do it again!

    Kyle2016-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a remote location with a view, this is the view of your dreams... It looks even better than the pictures online... I would definitely recommend if you want to spend some time with no noise except nature. One thing i wish was specified on the post is that this property is difficult to access with a car that is not high enough. I would suggest taking a "regular" car (meaning not a sports car) to go up there.

    Yon2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • I run out the words to describe how spectacular this place is ! We had a great time there, get to see the sunset and enjoy the mother of nature, and experience the sky turned from orange to dark shade blue. I can't complaint at all. The place is beautifully made, bed is very comfortable, and so many clean sheets to exchange , driving up there is little hassle, I would suggest go up early before the sun goes down, and get enough food during the length of your staying. Great experience, will go back again

    Ingrid2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beautiful stay at the hideout- very tranquil and secluded. We loved riding around on the scooter and seeing the friendly faces of the Balinese people. Wayan was an excellent host and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. His cooking was top notch. And the kitten!! Cherry on top. We'll definitely be back.

    Renee2016-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome spot to chillout for a weekend or even a week! We stayed there 2 nights and it wasn't enough to fully appreciate the House and it's surroundings. The fact that they produce their own energy and water is amazing! Really easy to find with the directions provided even if it's off the beaten path. The food cooked by Wayan is amazing and delivered straight to you table so don't worry about having to find spots to eat around. Don't count on the wifi to be able to work or watch videos but it's enough to just access the basic stuff and it will force you to appreciate your surroundings ! Be sure to visit the local market if you're there on a Saturday morning! Ali was kind enough to bring us to enjoy the local feel of the area! Thanks for an amazing stay!

    Villa2016-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Me and Claudia have been here for two nights and it was amazing. The house is really nice and peaceful and everything is clean! We didn't meet Alena because she doesn't live in Bali but she is very helpful. She sent us an explanation of how to get to Hideout. We didn't find it easily beacause it was night time but asking around we finally found the house. Everyone helped us a lot to find the house. The host, Wayan, is a really nice balinese man that helps you a lot with everything! He cooked the breakfast for us everyday (it was really nice) he is a VERY GOOD cook. We really loved trekking with Wayan. He also brought us to a traditional balinese market and we had dinner with him and his family. Hideout is a really good house that we recommend a lot if you go to Bali. You can not miss it!

  • We had a wonderful time at Bamboo House. It's super quiet there, the river is awesome and really refreshing, and altough the house has no AC we had a wonderfull sleept there. To get around we could use tho scooter, which was a good way to explore the surrounding. We also booked a massage, which was super!

All the rooms are furnished with exquisite bamboo furniture which perfectly complements the décor. The scenery and view from the house amazes guests. If you are a party of more than 6, let us know: we can arrange extra sleeping arrangements. The house includes WIFI, TV with DVD player (bring DVDs if you want to watch), and Satellite TV. Access is also available to the communal space, which includes a natural pool, pavilion, and a restaurant Other bamboo houses listed: Tower House https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16442850 Incredible All Bamboo Home by River https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1072746 and Bamboo 3 storey Home, Pool, garden https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/870094 and Spectacular Bamboo House by River https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/811798 and Exotic, Peaceful, Bamboo Paradise https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/11379306 and Extraordinary 5 floor Bamboo Palace https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1878334 and Amazing 4 storeyBamboo Home by River https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/965408 For dining, guests can order breakfast, lunch and dinner from our menu. We also offer private lunch /dinner catering or a Balinese chef to cook at your villa and menus from Ubud restaurants who will deliver takeaway meals direct to this house! Part of our attraction is that we are set in a very natural environment, and whilst there a couple of local village stores nearby with some very basic supplies, we are 15 mins away the main road. • The Sunrise Bamboo Home is as magnificent in person as it is in the pictures...and perhaps moreso. You can't really get a sense for the "feel" of the beautiful design and energy of the space through pictures alone. The staff was highly attentive, friendly, and accommodating. They will make you feel at home, as Sunrise Bamboo is but one of 12-13 houses on the property that they help manage. If you are a bugger for privacy, you may want to speak to Sutini upon your arrival and express (Website hidden by Airbnb) the staff checks in with your place quite regularly, especially if you order food to your home and plan on taking advantage of some of the trips they have to offer.

  • After seeing the TED talk, I was fascinated by the Green Village, so I was so excited to see this appear on AirBNB! The accommodation is absolutely fabulous. It's every bit as amazing as the pictures! It was fun to explore all the rooms and their unique design features. Loved it! It's not for you if you don't like bugs though. As everything is open, all sorts of critters can come in. One night in particular there were moths everywhere. There are mosquito nets on the bed so that mostly kept stuff out. My 4yo was bitten a lot though during our stay. Staff were friendly and obliging. There's not a lot to do in the area (Ubud is about 30 mins away by car), so bring a book to read and relax. My only complaint was with the food at the Green Village Cafe. Often the delivered meal differed to what was on the menu. Breakfasts were always cold. In general the food was largely tasteless and disappointing. Certainly no where near the standard of the accommodation itself. I'm more than happy with simple food, but that doesn't mean it has to be bland.

  • Green Village is a fantastic place. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay.

  • We thought this bamboo villa was too good to be true when we saw it on airbnb. Luckily Andrew was more willing to answer all our questions beforehand and assure us it was exactly as it looked in all the pictures! The villa is truly beautiful and its open aspect makes it a unique place to stay. We had expected there to be a lot of insects in the house which wasn’t the case at all! Sleeping with the sounds of the river and the crickets was amazing all the while being surrounded by modern comforts. Stunning surroundings, delicious breakfast, and the extremely helpful management of the Green Village itself made our stay one to remember. The management helped us find a rental moped with which we easily did our trips to Ubud (20min) and the surrounding areas. There are not many restaurants in the area but with the choice to have a cook make dinner for us in the evening we did not miss that at all. We highly recommend this place and hope to be able to come back to in the future.

  • Really nice location. Very friendly staff!

  • Amazing place to stay and definitely an experience to remember. However, there was a lack of places to relax other than sitting in the tree house, no chairs or relaxation area beside our pool and it was very overgrown so we couldn't sit out and enjoy the sun. The communal area was a bit outdated and also overgrown so wasn't really a place you could go to either. A bit disappointed with our driver that came to collect us to take us to the Green Village for the first time. He didn't say hello or welcome us in any way and the journey was in silence so it left us feeling a bit confused. Other than that I enjoyed my time at the Green Village. I would recommend staying here for one or two nights I spent three nights here and it was maybe too long due to the lack of things to do and the distance to places.

  • Mirna is such a nice, friendly person. We had a warm welcoming when we arrived at the Bamboo house. In the Bamboo house a big fresh fruit bowl was served every day. If you want to do any activity Mirna organize everything for you.

Located in the coffee region, in the Andean mountains of Colombia, South America, a charming cabana made from bamboo, with a great view and a "sendero" or pathway through the bamboo forest which criss-crosses our 5 acre organic farm, leading down to a stream. A place to relax and commune with nature.
Surrounded by beautiful rainforest plants, strategically placed for privacy, with an outdoor shower in a garden. Commune with nature, listen to crickets and night and birds in the morning. Situated on a small organic farm. We grow tropical fruits and trees, flowers, with aloe vera as our main crop. There is an enchanting pathway through our bamboo forest, leading down to a mountain stream and a small waterfall. Near many coffee region tours and attractions, including our own organic farming workshops, visiting a nearby bee farm where our neighbor propagates bees in danger of extinction, local coffee tours, butterfly emporium, hang gliding, zip lining, white water rafting, horseback riding, hiking, visiting nearby historic towns and world heritage sites.
We are situated in the heart of the coffee region in the Andean mountains in Colombia. We are in "Vereda La Pradera" neighborhood, near the small town of "El Caimo", 20 minutes from Armenia and 20 minutes from the airport, by car. Close enough for comfort and easy access, far enough from the hustle of traffic and city noise that you can commune with nature. Sleep to the sound of the crickets and awaken to the sound of birds.

The Joshua Tree House is a two bed two bath 1949 hacienda located 10 minutes from the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park in Joshua Tree, CA. This is a place for dreamers to reset, reflect, and create. Designed with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; from making local coffee by drip in the morning, choosing the perfect record to put on as the sun sets, or by relaxing in the hot tub surrounded by over 100 Joshua Trees and a starry night sky.
Instagram: @thejoshuatreehouse (all photos tagged with #thejoshuatreehouse) This house is very close to downtown Joshua Tree with many shops and restaurants about a 10 minute walk from the house. This also means that some sound from the highway can be heard. If you're looking for a completely silent desert experience, we would recommend our other property: The Joshua Tree Casita (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/10614974). Please also check that listing if you can't find the dates you're looking for. Welcome to the Joshua Tree House! This hacienda was built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) With over 100 Joshua Trees on the property, the views from the house are magical. If you're up for it, sunrise on the front porch is incredible. We estimate that some of the larger Joshua Trees on the property are as old as our country! *Mattresses and Bedding by Casper* There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms in the house, and works well for a group of friends, two couples, or small families. We can also set up an extra memory foam mattress in the hammock room (has privacy with pocket sliding doors) to accommodate groups of six.
Joshua Tree is a small community made up of musicians, artists, and explorers. In the village you will find locally owned and run restaurants, art galleries, music venues, and vintage shops. There are many wonderful places to visit during your stay at the house including the Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy & Harriet's, the Integratron, Salvation Mountain, the Salton Sea, Noah Purifoy Outdoor Museum, Crossroads, BKB Ceramics, and la Copine (a delicious new french restaurant in the desert).
  • What a perfect place for a relaxing J-Tree getaway! Spent the weekend with my girlfriend and we loved the place in every way. We got in at midnight on Friday and they hooked it up for us by having the bedroom preheated, the jacuzzi hot and ready to go, and they even had the indoor fireplace all setup, ready for a fire. It made the arrival so much more comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen was very accommodating, as we cooked breakfast there every morning. Tons of space inside and around the property. Cynthia & Johnny were very helpful in providing tips and suggestions for the area. This was my first time visiting Joshua Tree so this made for a stress-free experience for us. It was also very close to neighboring stores and restaurants so we didn't have to go far to get what we needed. The place is beautiful inside and out and they also have a heated blanket in the bed...what a dream. I highly recommend this place!

  • We absolutely loved every detail of this place! And the Horton under the stars was amazing!

    Isis&Josh2015-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • A magical place to escape! It's spacious, unique, centrally located and secluded at the same time. Amazing Joshua Trees and cacti in the garden, great hot tub and wonderful details in and around the house. We loved Sara and Rich's notebook with some local tips and must sees. Too bad we didn't get to meet them in person though.

    Malou2016-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Sara & Rich’s House is very accurately represented in description as well as Instagram photos. Communication is a breeze and the entire transaction from planning to departure- seamless. No surprises here! Prepare yourself to rise and set with the sun- you don’t want to miss the profound beauty of the Joshua Tree skyscape. Centrally located and easy to find, the home is right off the main drag. You’ll hear a little traffic but nothing that will keep you up at night. We enjoyed the jacuzzi, the super comfy beds ...and left feeling rested, revitalized and renewed.

  • The Joshua Tree House is a perfect place to experience the beauty of the desert. The home has wonderful views of the property, surrounding desert, and sunrises and sunsets. The hosts were great to work with and the home had all we needed to make it a wonderful and magical stay. One of our best Airbnb experiences for sure.

  • We could not have felt more at home during our stay at the Joshua Tree House! Rich and Sara are two amazingly creative individuals who have built an inspiring and relaxing getaway experience. Going into descriptive details would spoil the surprise, but here is a list of reasons why were coming back: Cozy fire place, amazing hot tub, beautiful sunrise/sunset, comfortable bed, great location, and so many thoughtful details! Thank you for making a home away from home for all to enjoy! We will most certainly be back.

    David2015-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a quiet new year's at Sara & Rich's place. It was perfect for us. Our hosts were super responsive during our weekend stay. It was a great place to start the new year.

Appearing in numerous books on natural building, our cottage is a welcoming and cozy retreat hand sculpted of local, sustainable natural materials located on a lovely acreage with sheep, gardens and orchards.
Our neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. We are a ten minute walk from the beach and a twenty minute walk, in the other direction, to a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce, as well as galleries, a bookstore, and a spa.
  • How better to spend a rainy, West Coast week-end than by sitting in the middle of a dream-like cob house, in front of an open firebox, reading a hand-drawn book (considerately left by the hosts) on how to build them, by hand? When a question arose, I would just look up, peer under, touch a surface, and notice such creative material responses! Thank you Manny and Alexis for keeping the Cobb Cottage so beautifully, and for letting visitors experience its sense of curvy possibilities and timelessness.

    Margot2015-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • ;We rented the Cob Cottage for our 9th wedding anniversary. I wanted somewhere magical and we certainly experienced that at Alexis and Manny's cottage. Words cannot describe this little gem. It's like stepping into the Hobbit House. The interior is as charming as the exterior. There are unique little decorating touches throughout which shows how much our hosts paid attention to every detail. There was fresh baked banana bread waiting for us on the counter. Their hens provided us with delicious eggs. Coffee, milk, etc were all provided for us. In addition, their sheep greeted us when we arrived and got out of the car. I was smitten. It is so quiet at night. We had the best nights' sleep. Their location is close to everything. You can cycle off the ferry and be there in under 30 minutes. Alexis and her family are wonderful. The twin boys are a joy to watch play around the farm. We will definitely return! Thank you Alexis & Manny.

  • Im actually not very sure if I want to leave a review since Im being very greedy about this place and prefer not to let anyone know about how amazing, beautiful, peaceful and special this place is so I can be able to book it for myself anytime I want! but here's my review:) Doesn't matter how many times you look at the photos before you go, you still won't know what is waiting for you and you'd be totally surprised by the character of this fabulous place and the lovely owner's hospitality. The cottage is extremely clean and comfortable, they have thought about anything you may need and they have put it there for you use. Overall you will be living a dream at Alexis and Manny's cottage.

  • We truly had a weekend getaway! Alexis is such a nice hosts, she tried to accommodate is in every single way! Love the boys! We will for sure come back. Thanks!

  • We were welcomed to this beautiful Cob Cabin with farm fresh goats milk and butter, fresh farm eggs, and a delicious banana loaf. It was a charming little country setting with chickens and lambs and the Cob Cabin was amazing in style and architecture. This is definitely somewhere we will come back to. We couldn't have asked for more. It far exceeded our expectations.

    synergetic2016-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing time. Alexis and Manny were amazing hosts and the getaway was just what we needed. I would recommend this listing for anyone that is looking for peace and quiet.

    Sarah2015-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Alexis was a great host and the cottage was awesome! One of the most relaxing weekends I've had in a while!

    Mike2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Alexis was an incredible host! We mistakenly arrived early and she greeted us with open arms and warm banana bread. We felt so transported - it was an incredibly tranquil stay with visits from the sheep and views of a picturesque self-sustaining farm. The cottage was beyond what we imagined. Super cosy, excellently stocked kitchen and house. Everything was thoughtful and taken care of. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer, book it if you can!

Sept. 20th is now open - this could be your chance to stay here. With a geodesic dome loft & a large deck in the trees, you'll feel like you're in a tree house in the woods. Since we book so far in advance, if you would like to stay here, check out our other listing, the Hummingbird Haven: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6562632. We have been listing with airbnb since July '09 and have had the most reservations of any of their listings! But you've got to plan ahead if you want to stay here.
We have 10 acres next to land without fences so you will get to enjoy nature: just hang out on the deck, take a hike in the woods, watch the hummingbirds, pet the goats, go to the beach or gaze at the stars - as long as the moon isn't full. ; ) During the summer, if there isn't any nightly fog, we can see the Milky Way here. To check our availability, click on the "Request to Book" link. And yes, if it isn't available, it is already booked! If you want to stay here on a weekend, you will usually need to make your reservation request about 9-11 months in advance. (Please read all of this description before making a reservation request.) The cozy and clean semi-rustic cabin has a loft under a geodesic dome (the "mushroom cap"). In the loft is a Queen-sized super popular Casper Mattress which allows for very comfortable sleeping and just hanging out. We provide clean sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of blankets are also provided. The other "bed" is a couch that we can make up into a bed. If there are going to be 2 of you, but you want separate beds, please make the reservation for 3 or let me know ahead of time - there is a $10. charge for using it as a bed. In the loft, we have a 32" HD Flat Screen and a DVD player (no TV) for movies. (We have over 80 movies you can view as well.) On the main floor (a Pentagon) is the couch and a pull-out table. We provide a small refrigerator, a blender, Hot Air Popcorn Popper, French Coffee Press, an Electric Water Kettle, (ask about our other appliances) a salad spinner and dishes. Yes, we have a wine opener. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We also have a barbecue grill on the deck with an extra gas burner on the side. We provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, popcorn, butter, honey, sugar, nutritional yeast (for the popcorn!) spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks. Our well water is treated by an ozonator, a UV light and a soft water filter. If you have a baby and you won't be needing the second bed, make your reservation for 2 and let us know if you will need a small pad for the loft. Again, if there are 2 of you but you want to use the second bed, please make your reservation for 3. The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and a Natures Head self-contained composting toilet. Some guests have had a problem with our bathroom, so I want to make it clear that we have a curtain for the door to the bathroom and we require that you put your used toilet paper in the trash. (it won't smell) If you follow the instructions for how to use the toilet, it won't have any odor. If the thought of using a composting toilet grosses you out, then don't make a reservation here. ; ) We provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6' you may have to do a little ducking here and there.) As Saturdays are very much in demand, (and we like to be free on Saturdays), we require a minimum 2 day stay on the weekends. Keep in mind that Friday and Saturday nights are $155. - $160. each. Therefore, to stay here on a weekend will cost $310. $360. plus the $35. cleaning fee, the $41 airbnb fee and the 11% Santa Cruz County Transient Tax of about $42. So for the weekend, it will be a total of at least $428. To stay for 1 day mid-week costs a grand total of about $200. On 3 day holidays, we require a 3 day reservation. (This includes Presidents Day, Memorial Day, M.L.King day, and Labor Day.) But to stay here on a weekend, you will usually have to book the cabin 6 - 8 months in advance - unless you are lucky to find a cancellation! Check-in time is between 4 and 10pm. If you want to come sooner or later, this can sometimes be arranged. Check-out time is noon. As we have experienced some damage from guests, we are now requiring a $100. security deposit. Although it feels very isolated here, we are less than 10 minutes to Aptos Village where you will find stores, restaurants, a health food store, Safeway, etc. We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay: 10 minutes from the beach (Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beach) as well as the 10,000 acre Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along Aptos creek. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 25 min. to the Beach Boardwalk, 45 minutes to Monterey and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, 50 min. to Carmel and 1 1/2 hours to Big Sur going south and San Francisco to the North. Yup, we are located in one of the most beautiful areas of California. (these times are not during rush hour(s) ; ) If you love hummingbirds, bring your camera. Our garden is the year-round home to many Anna Hummingbirds. (We usually have about 250-500 year-round) During the summer, we are also called home by many Rufus and Allen Hummers as well. So you have got to see our "Hummingbird Airport" where we feed them about 120 oz. of syrup on a summer day! Please, no smoking in the cabin or on the property. We used to let smokers stay here, but they stink up the cabin and it is a fire hazard outside. Some cell phones don't work here, but since we have free wifi in the cabin, if your phone works with a wifi network, you are good to call. You can sometimes get Verizon service on the swinging seat by the driveway. To learn about things to do in the area, do an internet search for Santa Cruz, CA. Dogs are welcome to stay here but with a few requirements: since we have so many animals, we require that your dogs be kept on a leash when outside (the goats get very nervous with large loose dogs). Also, we don't allow dogs in the loft or on the couch downstairs so please bring a doggie bed. (your doggie can go on the couch if you bring a cover for it) If that is difficult, let us know and we will provide a doggie pillow. We have a gate that we can set up so your dog can be off the leash on the deck. If you are bringing a small child, we can put a folding futon (2/3rds of the futon or a foam pad next to the bed ) Just let us know ahead of time. Keep in mind, though, that a child should not be left in the loft by themselves as the bed is fairly high up against the rail. As we are about 3 miles to the nearest bus stop, it is pretty difficult to stay here without a car. You are invited, if you feel you would be harmonious here. Pet the goats, check out our chickens, cats, miniature dog and enjoy the very fresh air. I might even teach you how to milk a goat. If you come here when there is no moonlight and the sky is clear, you will see lots of stars. Tired of the heat in the summer? Since we are on the edge of the "fog belt", it can be both sunny and cool here. If you want a noisy place, you won't like it here: most of the sound here comes from the birds or crickets chirping, the tree frogs croaking and the breeze blowing through the trees. People do live on the land here though, so don't expect it to be totally devoid of human sounds and the occasional chain saw. : ) (We feed the goats oak branches)
Even though we live only a 8 minute drive to Aptos village and the beaches, it feels very remote and private here. It is usually very quiet at night - sometimes we can hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach. There is lots of land to hike on and explore here as well. We have 11 people living here in a rather loose community.
  • A truly amazing experience. The mushroom dome is a very creative space teaming with energy and beauty. I loved sitting on the deck in the afternoon with cup of hot cocoa and wandering around the forest. Kitty and Michael are very open-hearted and welcoming; I will always remember my stay.

    Rainey2009-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our 2-night stay. The location was wonderful-- close enough to drive to some great hiking areas, and such a peaceful and beautiful setting in itself. Kitty and Michael made a point of coming over and introducing themselves (they were out of town the first night we stayed), and we cooked some great meals in our home away from home. Thanks!

  • We enjoyed are stay. unique caben experience, and trailes to hike on for days.

    Lyn2010-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The stay was unprecedented. I can't think of a more thought-provoking place. It's a peaceful, relaxing, and unique space of warmth. It's just perfect for taking a break from hectic city lifestyle. Kitty and Michael are awesome hosts. I had a really good time conversing with them. The family is profoundly organic with a great appreciation of nature. I'll definitely come back again...

  • I brought my boyfriend here to this amazing little geodesic dome as a surprise for this birthday. Even though we ran into a few weather bumps before we arrived at our destination due to the wet weather we had a wonderful time in this cozy little haven. The cabin is set away from the main house on the property with a beautiful view of the woods. Kitty showed us around and shared some interesting stories with us when we arrived but then left us to discover the fantastic details that make the Mushroom Dome special. The space is quite intimate and "rustic" but you can tell that the hosts take great care in keeping up the cabin. All of the amenities were available as promised and the fresh goats milk for our breakfast couldn't be any richer! We were determined to take a hike, even through all the muck, and made some great discovers around the grounds before checking out. The Mushroom Dome Cabin was a fantastic getaway spot that we would recommend to anyone. Thank you Kitty!

  • If you love hummingbirds, mushroom-domed cabin, and goat milk, not in that particular order, this is the place to be! Kitty has such a lovely place here for those whom want to be close to nature... and lovely animals : ) We had a wonderful and peaceful time, would definitely return in the future!

    Mai & Wayne2015-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • We followed the directions Kitty & Michael sent us prior to our visit and found the remote-ish property without a single wrong turn. Kitty greeted us with a tour of the property, lesson on hummingbirds, highlights of the area and specifics on Mushroom Dome living. The space was as expected and just perfect for our needs. Hubby took to the ladder to the loft bed with ease, while it took me a second to figure out my approach and dismount. I'm sure the average person would have no problem. I couldn't ride a bike til I was 12 and couldn't tie my shoes until 2nd grade, so I'm sure it was me, not the ladder! We met the goats, dogs, cats and chickens. All friendly and enjoyed a bonus of fresh goats milk in our coffee each day. Perfect accommodations allowed us to grill a lovely meal outside on the deck, enjoy the absolute beauty and quietness the area offered. This was sorely needed for us and we soaked in each moment. The queen sized mattress was incredibly comfortable and provided a great nights rest. Shampoo & soaps provided were refreshing and welcomed. The idea of a composting toilet was a little off putting at first but really, it is no big deal at all, so if you are hesitant about it, don't let it keep you from enjoying this property. They graciously provide internet service which worked great the first night but was spotty at best the last 2 nights we were there. I'm sure they would have been happy to reset the router, had it been important enough for us to ask but as we were trying reallllly hard to "unplug" we instead took it as a sign to just not indulge. The suggestions given for recreation were great. The aquarium, the boardwalk, the beach and the parks were enjoyed to the fullest. If we come back this way, we wouldn't hesitate to book a stay with Kitty & Michael.

  • Kitty and Michael gave us a truly once in a lifetime experience at the beautiful Mushroom Dome Cabin! Kitty was a warm and wonderful host, providing us with everything we needed (you've got to try the goat's milk) and a bunch of great local recommendations. The cabin is cozy, but perfect for a group of 2 or 3. We especially enjoyed reading and playing games out of the porch in the morning. Be sure to check out their hummingbird feeders on the back porch of the main house, truly something else! Can't recommend this listing enough, stay here!

This inspired dwelling nestled right into the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge mountainside. Reverently framed by the iconic round doorway, the wondrous views will entrance your imagination and inspire an unforgettable journey. Every nook of this little habitation will warm your sole, every cranny will charm your expedition of repose. Up the pathway, tucked into the earth, an unbelievable adventure awaits!
The majority of your neighbors will be deer, rabbits, birds & grouse. It's 2 miles up the mountain and although there are houses it gets more remote the closer you get to the hobbit hole.

  • For those for whom this matters, this listing is NOT HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE. In order to get to the Hobbit Hole, you have to drive three-quarters of the way up a small mountain on a narrow dirt road. I highly recommend that you drive a truck. Then once you park, there's a hike up a steep and narrow dirt path from the parking area up to the Hobbit Hole itself. You will be out in the middle of nowhere, likely with no cell signal, and there will be bugs. Also, there's nothing to cook with and no refrigerator. Bring camping food. If you can live with all of that, everything else about this listing is amazing. The Hole itself is smaller than it looks in the photos, but it's perfect for two people who just want to get away and enjoy each other's company and the spectacular view of the Columbia River. If you choose to hike a bit, you can also catch a magnificent view of Lake Chelan. The Hole has a (very tall) queen-sized bed, a full bathroom, and a cozy living room with a fireplace, table/workbench, and chess table. The water in the bathroom is not potable, but potable water is trucked in as necessary. The cleaning service also leaves a few delicious scones and cookies for you to discover upon arrival, and you're only about 30 minutes away from Chelan, WA, if you need supplies. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and highly recommend this listing, so long as you are physically fit enough to make the climb. And while you're there, be sure to write your name and your story in the journal. There are some good tales in there.

  • This place was amazing! Would love to see it again

    Jessica2017-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t think I could sufficiently describe just how stunning and magical this AirBnB is! The Hobbit Hole is situated atop a hillside overlooking the Columbia River Gorge and is very much reminiscent of the Shire except in the magical PNW. Luxury and simplicity at its finest here! I spent hours taking in all the beautiful details from the beautiful wood slice flooring to the intricate design on the back of the door, to the beautiful wood vanity and driftwood sink and the wood detailing on the privy. Everything was so, so beautiful! The environmentalist in me was also giddy at the fact that my one night stay had very little environmental impact with all the lights and outlets being powered by the sun! A few things to consider: it is quite a trek up to the Hobbit Hole from the parking area, which definitely adds to the experience, but I didn’t really plan for this and brought a pretty decent sized cooler with wheels. Had my hubby been with me, I would have had him carry the cooler up, but it was a pretty monumental cooler drag for me up the hillside! haha! Worth the work out though, as I had turkey/cheese sandwich and salad for supper and lox on a bagel and strawberries for breakfast the next morning. I also brought my pup with me and he was in heaven! So much open space for him to run free, but I did encounter either a rattlesnake or a bull snake on our morning walk a little ways from the hobbit hole (my heart was in my throat so I didn’t get close) so I suggest keeping your fur babies on a leash if you do go out for walks around the hobbit hole. Just to be safe ;) Thank you so much Kristie & crew for answering all my questions and making my stay one I will never, ever forget! Hoping to come back to the Hobbit Hole (aka dreamiest AirBnB in all the land) with my husband soon! :)

  • Loved the cookies!

  • Whimsical, cozy, straight from a storybook - the perfect place to spend time in a winter wonderland!! As beautiful and intricately detailed as the hobbit hole looks in the photos, I promise that the craftsmanship and quality is even more stunning in person! We went in December when everything was covered in snow. The drive up the winding road was doable, but I definitely felt more comfortable doing it in four-wheel drive. The drain had frozen and the pipes froze our second day, but Kristie was amazingly helpful and considerate - doing everything she could to fix it and offering us some reimbursement when the the anti-drain-freezing product didn't arrive in time! I only mention this to emphasize how wonderfully attentive Kristie's service was! Also, I highly recommend the provided Yaktrax for getting up the hill - we were wearing heavy duty snow boots, but the Yaktrax still made the hike much easier. Our experience at The Hobbit Inn was sweetly magical. It was lovely to be away from the daily grind, taking a much-needed break from the frustrations and temptations of all things internet, and instead leading simple, deeply satisfying days whittling and playing chess and talking and reading by the fire. I can't wait to go back!

    Lindsey2016-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • A magical place in the hills with such a killer view. I recommend this place 20/10.

    Conner2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • I mean, as other reviewers will tell you, it's as amazing and magical as the pictures suggest. I'd recommend it a million times over... We did go in the beginning of July and if you are not familiar with the middle of WA, be prepared- it's HOT. We had driven about 6 hrs to get here and brought a frozen jug of water which was perfectly ice cold for us to drink and probably my best recommendation if you go during the summer. There is water there but COLD water is nice. We slept great. It's so quite and dark at night. There are outlets there to charge your phones, not that you'll get any service there :) Perfect place for any LOTR fan. I brought my husband here as a b-day surprise and he completely freaked out when he saw the round door while we were driving. It was great! It's a really lovely place and yes steep walking up from the parking space but I feel like it adds to the charm of your adventure.

The Off-grid itHouse brings together raw industrial aesthetics with the tactics of green design to forge a new home in the sunbaked wilds of the California high desert.
The Off-grid itHouse is an architecturally significant house, recently noted by Dwell as one of the 'Best Homes in America' and in the Los Angeles Times as one of the best houses of all time in Southern California. The Off-grid itHouse is one of 10 IT Houses built in California, which have received much acclaim such as the Western Home award sponsored by Sunset magazine. Also noted as one of the top 10 airbnb rentals worldwide. This is the prototype for the pre-engineered system known as the IT House. The house is 100% off-grid, powered by solar panels for energy and hot water, and is located in a pristine remote valley in the beautiful California high desert. The house observes key green principals of smaller footprint, minimal disturbance to the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, use of renewable resources, and living simply and minimally. The setting of the house is remote and serene, a quiet refuge from everything, free from distractions. Amazing views and vistas in all directions. Perfect for design or green aficionados, writers or those needing a secluded quiet getaway.
Located in Pioneertown, CA, nearby several unique attractions, Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy and Harriets Pioneertown Palace, local museums and art venues such as the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, the Integratron, and other seasonal events.
  • Off-grid itHouse is an amazing place, my gratest gratitude to Linda by creating and sharing it trough Airbnb!

    David2014-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The house was beautiful. Linda put a lot of time and thought into everything from the architecture to the bath towels. It was a bit cloudy towards the end of the day our weekend, so we lost power both mornings. Luckily we brought a camp stove and lanterns to conserve at night for the next day.

    Jorge2015-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning home set within an environment of immense beauty. The beautifully designed living spaces blend seamlessly with the outside and from the moment you wake up you feel as if you are one with the nature around. We are reminded of Mother Nature's beauty and fragility in her raw form. It's wonderful to watch both sunrise and sunset, put wood on the fire, play games with your family, uninterrupted by screens and buzzes of phone messages. Linda has created a luxurious home for you to experience "back to basics" within. What could be better?! Restore, rejuvenate and relax! It really could be a life changing experience.

    Samantha2015-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at this house was a birthday treat to myself. I think it was the best birthday I've ever had! I've dreamt of this house since seeing it in an article a few years ago. The house and the site are jewels. Words really can't describe the experience. The off-grid aspect made the house a living thing. I want an IT house of my own! I will never forget the time spent there.

    Paul2016-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed two nights during our honeymoon and would have loved to have stayed longer. This was the perfect place to decompress and disconnect from phones/tv/internet and to read and be with each other. Everything in the house is well thought out. We spent a lot of time reading and simply admiring the stunning desert view, which changes with the light throughout the day. Highly recommended.

    Kim2015-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best airbnb experience I've ever had. This house is special. From the view to the gorgeous design of the property--you feel like you're in a dream.

  • WOW! Linda, thank you for being the conduit for a truly rare opportunity to connect face to face with the incredible Californian High desert. After driving 6000 miles from NY to Southern California on an Art & Architecture pilgrimage taking in a total of 16 US States & studying iconic works by such brilliant architects as Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies Van Der Rohe, Phillip Johnson, Rick Joy etc etc, we must say your Off-grid itHouse was without question one of the highlights thanks to its architectural integrity, respect for its environment & its unique ability to act like a viewfinder to the living breathing desert, its animals, reptiles & changing kaleidoscope of light & shade. We very much look forward to returning some day soon. Steven and Maya.

  • This was a wonderful place to spend two days. We had complete privacy, a lovely space to relax in and enjoy light snow. It's so close to Akureyri but seemed so far from anyone. Great taste and stunning style. We also had a terrific experience on the whale watching tour - a whale came very close to our boat.

    Lesley2013-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • On a hill, overlooking the fjord, with Iceland’s forth largest town Akureyri, you have a stunning panorama. The crimson-orange glow over mountains and wetlands in the fading autumn light is truely mesmerizing. As a starting point for a whale safari (e.g. in Husavik) or horseback riding (e.g. Langhus farm near Siglufjordur) you won’t find any better! iPad sound system and a cool beer in the fridge upon arrival, are nice touches. Shops and restaurants are nearby (10 min.). I would highly recommend this place!!1

casaBARTHEL is a perfect place for a vacation and an artist residency, immersed in the Tuscan landscape only twenty minutes’ from the Duomo and one hour from Siena. Come and live with us: enjoy our olive trees, the kitchen garden, the tennis court and the small swimming pool. The TREEhouse is a romantic room immersed in the pine trees with fire place for the winter and AC for the summer. It offers a bedroom with a queen size bed, a small kitchenette with stove and fridge; a bathroom with shower, and a private outdoor terrace. And a fantastic view towards the Tuscan landscape! And if you want to see and know more about our passion for the interior design, the arts and crafts, and antiques you should come visit our design and make shop ‘Riccardo Barthel’ in Via dei Serragli n. 234 r, in the Santo Spirito district of Florence! At the beginning of the 1980 our family moved into the ‘Poggio Secco’ (Dry Hill) farmhouse, just outside Florence city center, in front of the Certosa dell’Ema. The compound had a big stone villa surrounded by olive trees, a compost hub, a pigeon house, a barn, a tall cypress tree and an old German shepherd dog. Everything in the farm was placed around a large terracotta courtyard, a sort of public square. Thirty years later the ‘Dry Hill’ is still our home and a small community that includes my mum Daniela, aunt and uncle Sandra and Nanni, me, my daughter Cristina and my husband Andrew. We all live here sharing the same love for the countryside, its olive oil, good food and the family lifestyle! The rent includes the use of the communal swimming pool and the tennis court; the dining porch with the BBQ and the wooden oven; dryer and washer; table tennis and football table, plus a car parking inside the property. We are glad to interact with our guests; you will be part of our large family! Galluzzo is a nice small village with everything you need:crocery stores and a nice farmers market open every day. The certosa monastery is a must. Le Corbusier was there to learn! There are public busses in Galluzzo to go to the city center and to go to Siena. But to get to our house and to enjoy the surrounding you should come by car!

  • My boyfriend and I stayed in Casa Barthel for a relaxing and romantic night and it certainly did not disappoint!! We were met at the gate by a lovely woman by the name of Teresa who helped with our bags and led us to the tree house. The grounds on which the tree house resides are absolutely beautiful and the view is second to none!! The tree house itself was incredible--like nothing we've ever seen before. It is well decorated and truly an experience to stay in. In the morning Teresa greeted us with croissants and helped us call our cab so we could reach our train. Overall this was our best AirBnb stay yet and we truly hope one day we can come back!

  • My wife and I had a wonderful two night stay here in Sep '15. The location and grounds were spectacular. It was nice to have the option to explore Florence, but also the Tuscan countryside and Chianti region right at our doorstep. The simple architecture of the treehouse was inspiring and Elena's food recommendations were top notch. Only drawback was the very slight humming of cars from the nearby highway.

Charming and romantic,' Round' Cottage on the Santarella Estate in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. Formerly, the cottage was sculptor Henry Hudson Kitson's summer studio on the Santarella Estate. The two-story cottage has a charming bedroom with 35 foot high conical ceiling with canopied bed upstairs with views through massive, multi-paned "mill windows" to the trees and sky and out to the lily pond. The downstairs sitting room looks out on the babbling brook and lovely gardens.
Now open year-round! Charming, One Bedroom Cottage, former sculpting studio on the Santarella Estate in Tyringham, MA. Known as the "Silo Studio" Cottage. There is a bedroom with canopied queen bed upstairs and a sitting room with window bench-seat, coffee table, table and chairs, kitchenette area with wet bar with Micro/Fridge coffeemaker, toaster and bathroom with shower are downstairs. Fall asleep to sounds of the babbling brook and views to pond and forest from the large screened openings upstairs, like living in a "tree-house". Accommodates two only, fully furnished, all linens, towels included. There is Satellite DTV and Wireless Internet on site. The cottage is situated on four acres including lovely gardens, beautiful lily pond, running brooks and 2 acre woods. Absolutely unique, one-of-a-kind experience! Please Note, the cottage has traditionally been a three season rental from approximately March- November, however, due to much interest and demand, we have recently added a larger capacity pellet stove and made winterizing efforts and plan on keeping it open for guests interested in a winter experience in the cottage! Please keep in mind that access to our grounds may be limited with the accumulation of snow in winter months. During predicted extreme weather events, we will gladly work with guests to change reservations as we are always concerned for their comfort! Our lovely grounds are open to our guests. There are garden paths, babbling brook with stone bridges, loveliest of lily ponds, stone bench seating area with 'chiminea' and firewood for guest's use. There are two acres of woods with a loop trail as well. The town has an exceptionally beautiful Swimming Pond about 2 miles away which our guests may use. There are BBQs and picnic tables and it is often deserted. While we do have a pet friendly policy, prior approval and acceptance of our rules and policies is required before a pet may stay with you in our accommodations. There is also a $25.00 additional pet cleaning charge. The cottage is located on the Santarella Estate surrounded by gardens and storybook architecture. Santarella is located in the Tyringham Valley, tucked away 3.5 miles from Mass. I-90, a lovely and magical place where one feels like they have stepped back in time. This is definitely a place to 'get away from it all', enjoy quiet, rural surroundings close to the Appalachian Trail and Tyringham Cobble for hiking and many lovely ponds for swimming or kayaking. Vehicle is necessary. Grocery and other shopping at 3.5 miles.
Tyringham Valley was one of the original settlements in Western Massachusetts. It is mostly agricultural conserved land giving it a very rural, bucolic and idyllic character. The lovely 'Hop Brook' runs through the middle of the valley which is sparsely populated with mostly historic homes, making one feel like they have stepped back in time. An original, beautifully preserved Shaker settlement sits on top of the hillside opposite Santarella, overlooking it. At the far end of the valley, the gracious columns of the burned Ashintully mansion overlook the entire valley and are all that remain of the gilded-age estate which has beautiful preserved formal gardens, great to visit and hike. The Appalachian Trail is 2.25 miles from the cottage.
  • The Silo Studio Cottage is like no other place you will ever stay -- in an awesome way! It's like walking into the illustrations of a great fairytale storybook. My husband said it was like staying in Gandalf's hat. The grounds of the Santarella Estate were gorgeous in the fall (as I'm sure they are in any season), and the surrounding valley and hills were just as magical. Lee, MA is a great little walk-about town, and there are many interesting sites in the area. We loved the refurbished grain silo with its grandiose canopy bed and crazy big windows that fill the suite with sunlight and the sounds of birds hopping about and leaves rustling. The bathroom is quite small, due to the shape of the building, but not as bad as a cruise ship. It is on a different floor than the bedroom, which could be a problem for someone with limited mobility. The studio cottage was clean and comfortable, but be forewarned - this is kind of like glamping. Old wood, brick floor, in a garden = some bugs. But we didn't mind, and it was totally worth it. Perfect fit for our 10th anniversary trip. We never met Denise, but she was available through email prior to our arrival, and arranged for a friend to meet us and give us the key. Three thumbs up!

    Marilla2013-10-07T00:00:00Z

  • My mom and I stayed at the silo cottage at the end of June and had a great weekend. Denise and her husband are very kind people and their hard work shows at this beautiful property. Our favorite parts about our stay was watching fire flies at night in the back yard, admiring the gardens and spending time in the shade by the pond. We came during a heat wave and they were thoughtful to give us some extra fans. I can’t wait to bring back other family and friends!

  • The silo had such fantastic reviews, I felt confident it would be great -- I was happily not surprised! We wish we could give it 6 stars for charm and originality. It was like something out of a dream -- a little fairy house! And tucked into the perfect fairy landscape, with a pond, babbling brook which you can see and hear from the silo, picturesque mossy wooded areas all interconnected by tidy pebble pathways. We had unseasonably cold spring weather, but the pellet stove in the downstairs room kept it comfortable, and while the air in the bedroom upstairs was cold, the bed itself had mattress heaters which we turned on before getting in -- SO luxurious! Plus, flannel sheets and warm and cozy blankets. The downstairs room is well-appointed with anything a person could need, and the bathroom is adorable, immaculately clean, and has plenty of hot water for showering. Denise and Dennis were warm and friendly and gave us tons of information on local restaurants, hiking, music, museums, etc. in the area. We would highly recommend staying here and would love to return again some day!

  • This was my boyfriend and I's first Airbnb experience as well as our first trip to the Berkshires and I am glad we found such a neat place that left a wonderful impression. The property is even prettier than in the pictures and the hosts, Denise and Dennis are friendly and helpful. They provided lots of great suggestions for local food and activities as well. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in Western Massachusetts!

  • We had a wonderful stay at The Old Smock Windmill. It has been beautifully restored & Clare is the perfect host. She's there if you need anything but never intrusive. We loved the little touches upon arrival, with the incredible fresh eggs and the baked bread. The surrounding areas are lovely, with plenty to do. Equally the windmill was so nice, we were happy to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Thank you again Clare, we hope to visit again one day.

  • A truly beautiful designed place and incredible relaxing at the same time! This was seriously one of the nicest, most homely and comfortable places I have ever stayed. Why go outside? WOW!

  • My husband and I had a fantastic weekend at the Old Smock Windmill. Clare was very friendly and showed us around the windmill when we arrived, explaining some of the features. There was a lovely welcome basket in the Kitchen too which was a nice touch. The windmill is beautiful and a lovely place to relax in. We enjoyed putting the fire on and having a glass of wine on the comfy sofa! The views from every window are spectacular and it was a real joy to stay here. Will come back!

    Rachel2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We will always remember our stay at the old smock mill! A fantastically relaxing place which we enjoyed with our 6 month old baby. Clare was super accommodating and set us up a bbq in her secret garden where we enjoyed a couple of sunny afternoons. Stunning views, perfect interior design and a very helpful host! Don't hesitate about the price, it's worth every penny!

Red cinder leads you through the dense jungle to your secluded bamboo treehouse. Nestled on top of stilts 15' up in the canopy of the local flora, ascend to your retreat via the trapdoor or begin your adventure in Volcano National Park 10 miles away.
Upon arrival, let the red cinder path be your yellow brick road as you are lead through the jungle to your personal paradise. At ground level you will encounter a hanging bed, suspended beneath the floor of your new living quarters. Stop and relax or continue up the staircase to the trapdoor. It is through this trapdoor that you are allowed access to the lanai amongst the canopy of trees. A beautiful wrap around lanai allows for a 360 degree view of the lush jungle, while two sliding glass doors grant access to the bedroom. Upon entering, you will notice that the generous windows and doors allow for natural sunlight to flood into the house, complementing the bamboo fixtures and vintage 1970s wallpaper that backs the bed. The white bed linens reflect the light giving a dreamy, cloud-like aura to the space. There is counter stocked with a local coffee and snacks nestled into a corner of the house and overlooked by the handcrafted porthole windows. Bamboo backed cubby holes and hangers furnish the wall behind you and create an elegant, minimalist closet space for you to store your personal items for the duration of your stay. Just past the closet is a sliding door that accesses one of the most fun areas of the house: the bathroom. The bathroom jalousie windows stretch from the floor to the ceiling and the horizontal glass plates open up, creating an indoor-outdoor effect. Naturally caught rainwater cascades from the large shower head above before disappearing into the floor boards below. You'll notice that the natural theme spills over into the bathroom with sustainable cork board backing the shower and air plants intermittently growing throughout. The toilet and hand-made rock sink in the corner make use of grey water eco-principles by allowing you to wash your hands with fresh water before it goes on to fill the bowl. One of the most fun aspects of this property is that it allows you the opportunity to experience true off-grid living without sacrificing any of the comforts of normal life. Natural lighting, solar power and rain water catchment are the three principles that have been integrated into this tree top design, making it almost like a living organism itself. The beauty of this high flying haven is in the details. I spent the better part of three months personally constructing the building as well as the accessories inside. My goal was to create a customized and secluded space for your occasion. The chandelier, hanging lights, port-hole windows, rock sink and platform bed were all DIY projects that I specifically created to enhance your experience. The bamboo pillars that 'support' the lanai and the moss carpet under the hanging bed were harvested from local areas on the Big Island. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION Don't worry, the capital letters are just to emphasize importance. I'm not mad at you. But please read this entire section before making a reservation. As lush and inviting as the Dreamy Tropical Treehouse is, there are inevitable 'challenges' that come with staying in an off-grid treehouse in the Hawaiian jungle. My goal is give you an experience that combines adventure and luxury so I want to make sure that you are aware of the following things: 1. The treehouse is about 15-feet off the ground and is only accessible by the 'ladder-stairs'. 'Ladder-stairs' is just another way of saying 'very steep' stairs. There is a hand railing and none of my visitors have ever had a problem going up and down. There is a pulley system for hoisting up your bags. Only those who believe they are physically capable should book a stay. Just remember to go up and down facing them... like a ladder! 2. The running water comes from the rain falling on the roof and is not treated; therefore, the water is not potable. I will provide several bottles of drinking water. 3. The electricity you use is generated by sunlight and is stored in a battery. Once the battery runs out of power it has to recharge. This shouldn’t happen but just be mindful not to leave lights or power hungry items running for extended periods of time (No hairdryers). The windows allow for plenty of light during the day. 4. This is the rainy side of the Big Island so expect some showers! Realize that the pitter-patter on the roof is the rain's first stop on its journey to the water tanks and then to your shower. Also notice how warm it is. Don't think of rain as a trip ruiner but instead an asset to be enjoyed! 5. There are bugs but this isn't the Amazon. For such a tropical climate you will be surprised at how few bugs there are. The main things you will see are moths, fruit flies (due to fruit falling off of the trees) and mosquitoes. Bug repellent is provided but it never hurts to bring your own. They really don't get that bad but their presence increases after a hard rain and during the twilight hours. Luckily, the hanging bed has mosquito netting that drapes down to encompass it. 6. Noises. Living off-grid in the jungle also brings about its own set of noises. The water pump and solar inverter will make soft noises throughout the day as they are used. The falling fruit from the vivie trees can also be alarming if you don't know what it is, and at night you are going to be serenaded by the sweet chirping of coqui frogs. Rustling branches, grunts and squeals typically means that the cute family of wild pigs is nearby. They are harmless and will runoff as soon as they sense your presence. Quietly grab the binoculars and, if you are lucky, may catch a glimpse of them! All of these aspects are what makes this place so unique and, with the right mindset, only enhance your overall experience. Guests have free range to fully utilize every aspect of the house. The hanging bed, wrap-around porch, indoor-outdoor shower and closet are at your full disposal. I have recently installed a kitchenette that has a sink, cooler for storing food/drinks, and a coffee maker (also capable of heating up water). Any and all goodies stocked in the house are there for your enjoyment. Here is a more comprehensive list of amenities and features that will be available to you: •Indoor/Outdoor Shower •Toilet with Overlaid Sink •Organic Shampoo/Conditioner •Towels •Ample Parking •Tiki Torch ‘Flashlights’ •Hanging Bed •Table and Chairs for Lanai •Binoculars •Several Books •Outlets (3-prong and USB) •Kitchen Sink •Coffee Maker •Clean Linens •Gramophone Music Player for iPhones •Cooler for Food/Drink •Card Game Guest interaction can be tailored to your needs. My goal is to make sure your stay is unforgettable so you can always contact me via phone or email. Because I do not live on the island year round, a local neighbor can assist you if you have any problems that need tending to. Upon your arrival I can arrange to have someone greet you and show you the property or simply stow away the key for your convenience. The choice, of course, is yours. Even though I am not on site, I can always be reached. Feel free to call/text/email me at any time during your stay should the unlikely event that a problem arises. I will immediately contact the proper authority to have the problem remedied. The treehouse is located at the end of a neighborhood street making it very private. It is set about 50 yards off the street behind a windy, jungle path further adding to your privacy. There are only about five full time neighbors scattered throughout the neighborhood so don't expect to see a lot of people. The treehouse is about 20 miles from Hilo, 23 miles from Pahoa, 12 miles from Keaau and 8 miles from Volcano. Volcano is the closest place for laundry, good restaurants and groceries, though you will pay a little more for the groceries than in Hilo or Keaau. I recommend you stop on your way in from Hilo. When you book I will include a guidebook that has the locations, hours and prices of local restaurants and grocery stores. There is quick access to highway 11 and it is 10 miles from Volcanoes National Park. Numerous opportunities for sightseeing and adventures are within a 40 minute drive of this treehouse paradise and they will be included in my guest guidebook as well. This is the ultimate spot for couples seeking romantic seclusion in the middle of a tropical jungle or individuals who want to escape the world. Unless you feel like hitchhiking, you will definitely need a rental car to comfortably explore the surrounding areas and access the treehouse. While nothing is 'far' on the big island, everything is just a bit out of reach by foot... except of course for those lovely, yet dense, jungle strolls. • The tree house is great! Everything works fine, and the feeling of waking up there is very cool! We did not have any problems with sounds (like frogs or pigs), and everything worked fine, just be patient with getting the shower water temperature right. One small note is that the last stretch of road has some dips that gather water when it rains. We were fine with our SUV, but a super low car might have trouble if it has been raining heavily. Thank you Kristie for building and opening up this beautiful place!

  • Chic and charming jungle retreat, perfect for a couples getaway. We drove down a dirt road to a mysterious lava rock pathway lit with tiki torches tucked into the forest. Climbed the ladder, thru the trap door, into an instant escape. Listened to the sounds of the jungle at night, woke up to the sun beaming thru the trees. Swinging in the outdoor bed swing at this romantic little hideaway was a highlight on our trip to the Big Island. Located not that far from Volcano National Park. I'd stop by this enchanting little treehouse again for a day or a week. Mahalo Kristin.

  • The treehouse was an amazing place to spend a couple nights! It was peaceful, secluded, and romantic. We loved all the thought that went into everything and were impressed with the bathroom. One of the nights we were there, it rained and there couldn't have been anything more perfect! Wish we had booked an extra day just to spend hanging out and relaxing in the treehouse... Next time though :)

  • Excellent few days in the treehouse. Very convenient location to Volcano National Park. The treehouse is a once in a lifetime experience. Pulley system worked great to get luggage up and everything in the treehouse worked as described.

  • The Tropical Tree House was a wonderful dream. Tucked away from the world surrounded by lush greenery and animal sounds. Such a unique experience waking up in a rainforest. Everything was clean beautifully presented. Highly recommend.

  • Stunning, magical, thoughtfully designed, we could not dream of more. Kristie was kind and provided wonderful local tips. The tree house is as pictured and even more. We were sad to leave, and hope to come again!

  • Great stay in the forest! You can hear frogs at night. There were mosquitoes but that is expected and bug spray is provided. 10 minutes from volcano national park is nice.

  • This treehouse was a dream for getting away for awhile. It was a romantic escape and the child in you will be giddy to be living amongst the trees. It was super close to Volcano National Park, in which we spent a bunch of time, and also not too far from decent food options as well. My only complaint is that our stay wasn't long enough, and we didn't use that swing nearly enough!! (completely our fault). There were bottles of water and snacks for us to enjoy, and Kristie emphasizes green practices which I love supporting all the ways we can be more friendly to our earth. Thank you for creating such a beautiful space for people to enjoy on their Hawaiian vacation. Amazing. Would do it again in a heartbeat and would recommend it to anyone I know going to the island.

Volvería a ir!

*This cabin was featured in the New York Times in January, 2017. * A magical homesteader cabin embedded in 5 acres of unfenced Joshua Tree desert wilderness, 12 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. Experience peace, quiet, wildlife and STARS—on the grid but off the pavement.
If this cabin is booked on your dates, check out our other two cabins nearby ("Homestead Camp Cabin in Joshua Tree" and "Midcentury Prefab Homesteader Cabin") *** If you would like to use our cabin as a shooting location please get in touch to discuss our rates, otherwise we do not allow commercial or professional shooting of any kind (photo, video, film) during your stay. Thank you in advance! *** The restored cabin, which has been featured in the New York Times 'T' travel magazine, Wilder Quarterly, The Weekender and the book 'Jackrabbit Homestead,' was constructed in 1955 and still has its original green paint. Joshua Tree National Park is a 15 minute drive from the cabin. The Integratron and Giant Rock are also 15 minutes away. The cabin is less than two miles from artist Noah Purifoy's famous sculpture garden site. Two miles in the other direction is Dhamma Dena, teacher Ruth Denison's Vipassana Buddhist center. The always swinging Pappy & Harriet's BBQ and music roadhouse in beautiful Pioneertown is a 30-minute drive. The Lou Harrison House, which hosts occasional devotional, folk and avant garde music events in an intimate setting is less than 10 minutes away. We will be happy to give you directions to each of these unique places (and many others) that we frequent ourselves. The cabin sits on 5 acres, and feels remote, but it's just 12 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. You will travel a few miles on a secure, hard dirt road to get here. Enjoy the spectacular panoramic sunset and sunrise—as well as a blanket of stars. In the wintertime, you can build a fire too. Sleep comfortably in a queen-sized bed. The renovated interior has a cookware-outfitted kitchen and dining area. There is an outhouse with a dry toilet and roofless shower a few yards from the cabin. Wireless internet is available if you require a connection to the digital world. The cabin is equipped with air conditioning. The cabin is located next to BLM land and a wildlife corridor, which means you will witness these wild animals in their native habitat. The cottontail rabbits, cactus wrens, lizards, desert tortoises, jackrabbits, coyotes, owls and roadrunners (and more!) that make the desert their home make a visit to this serene cabin all the more special. Guests may have freshly prepared organic juices made by local juice cleanse guru Angela de la Agua delivered to the cabin. A menu/pricelist is available upon request. Please note that we have a TW0-NIGHT MINIMUM stay, and a THREE-NIGHT MINIMUM FOR HOLIDAY WEEKENDS. This requirement allows us to keep our rates low, so that the greatest number of folks get a chance to experience being here in the unfenced desert, under the Milky Way. We donate 2.5% of our proceeds to the Mojave Desert Land Trust, an excellent local non-profit organization devoted to protecting the Mojave Desert ecosystem and its scenic and cultural resource values.
  • amazing cabin out in the desert! very peaceful, styled interior (and exterior as well), patio with sun in the morning and in the evening. too bad we could not stay longer!

  • Our stay at the cabin was phenomenal! The huge windows immerse you in the landscape, which is just as awe-inspiring as the pictures. We used the fire pit both nights, and if you stay here in the winter, I highly recommend it. You'll need to bring your own wood, of course. And Stephanie and Jay are wonderful hosts.

  • The first thing I my girlfriend and I were greeted with upon exiting our car in front of the Sonora Cabin was absolute silence. This was after our two hour thirty minute plus car ride from Los Angeles (pro-tip: leave by noon if you plan on driving out here on a Friday), stopping off for supplies, and making our way up the paved, then dirt/gravel/sand road to the cabin. Prior to arrival I had sent Jay a text message (Both Stephanie and Jay were very responsive via email and text) that we were arriving shortly, and he unlocked the cabin for us and met us there within a couple of minutes of our arrival. After a tour of the cabin and facilities, we were left to ourselves as the sun was setting over the hills. Another tip: do plan to arrive before dark, because, it is very dark out here. All of the previous reviews pretty much sum up our experience. The cabin was as described, Jay was very nice and welcoming, the outdoor shower and dry toilet took a bit of planning (bear in mind it was about 47 degrees at night, less in the morning). The first night we were there I spent about several hours in the cold night with my telescope observing all the stars, galaxies, and clusters we wouldn’t normally see in LA, it was amazing in the true sense of the word. The cabin itself is cozy, and makes you appreciate making do with a bit less than you’re used to. It is close to both entrances to Joshua Tree, plus food and other supplies. I loved waking up to the sunrise coming into all the large windows offering a view of the mountains and desert scrub. All the amenities described were there, and we were able to get by with them, including cooking a right proper dinner on both nights. In retrospect we could have brought more cold weather clothing, and robes for running from the shower back inside through the cold air. This is only my second AirBnB experience, and the complete opposite of my first in terms of location and amenities (high-rise apartment in Vancouver’s Olympic Village) yet it was very relaxing and refreshing and definitely on our list of places to visit again in the near future.

    Laurie2015-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jay was very helpful upon arrival, explained everything thoroughly and made us feel welcome. The homesteader cabin was beautiful and very clean, the bed was comfortable and the remote desert area was perfect for our 2 day getaway. The light is wonderful in the desert and the big glass windows make the room feel magical. Definitely very happy with our experience!

    Raffa2015-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • There is little I would say that the most posative reviews here have not already conveyed: the place was fantastic. Absolutely perfect for a few days away from LA. Would come again in a heartbeat. Book it if you get the chance.

    Leon2016-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • YES! This experience was everything and more I had visualised after flirting with the place for over two years. First: The photos are exactly what it is like! Warm, colourful, clean, neat, attentive to detail. quirky, cozy, authentic... and practical, too. Second: Jay was very responsive to my initial enquiries and throughout the booking and our stay. The directions we were sent were detailed and accurate... We drove up the dust road before sunset and got there in time for sundowners on 'our' porch overlooking the breathtaking quiet desert. Jay was there to greet us, and walked us around the house and the property, explained everything we needed to know to be comfortable and made sure we knew he was available for any assistance. Jay is friendly, forthcoming and clear, we felt welcome and safe. Our stay at Joshua Tree Homesteader cabin was the highlight of our holiday.

    Laura2015-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Jay and Stepanie's cabin was like living in a vintage desert dream. We loved waking up with the sun, and seeing the brilliant stars at night. It felt like the cabin was worlds away, even though it was just minutes from downtown Joshua Tree and the national park. Jay and Stephanie were great hosts - they responded quickly to any questions we had, and they are great champions for keeping Joshua Tree peaceful and special.

  • Our stay was beautiful. The villa was lovely and in a great location (off the main road but within a several minute walk to restaurants, bars, beach, shopping). They really went above and beyond in the little details (plenty of towels, lovely bedding, comfortable beds, coffee and tea available, hand soap, dish soap, etc). Everyone was incredibly helpful throughout our stay, helping us organize a car to the airport and daily cleaning. The pool was an added bonus (and a section of the pool gets sun about midday). I would highly recommend staying here. We had a great time!

    Alana2016-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • This villa was stunning. Cosy but comfortable with a nice pool. Great staff, excellent wifi and TV channels. Can't complain about anything.

  • Had a very comfortable stay at Love villa 4, with the feeling of staying at a friends home. The location is great, a short walk to the beach, shopping and restaurants, but tucked away in a quiet Laneway. Robyn and Richard have supplied all the comforts you will need including drinking water, and insect repellent (both important for your stay). Manager, Erni, is extremely helpful. Be prepared for the sound of scurrying on the roof at night (nothing gets in though). Would stay again.

An ancient trullo surrounded by panoramic contryside , away from the noise. Just relax, time taken lying on the hammock or a dip in our cristalline sea and in the evening a great apulian dinner in nearby villages. simple and authentic things
Trullo aromativc green is a 300 year old building, with the traditional "trullo" cones of this region of Puglia. Trullo is situated on the west facing slope of a delightfully quiet valley with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and ideal place for relaxing and is beautiful to explore on foot or by bicycle. The property has been designed to be beautiful, comfortable and environmentally friendly. Solar power is used for hot water and and waste water is re-used (please use the organic bodycare and cleaning products provided). In cooler months, heating and the woodburning stove will keep you warm. The trullo's traditional thick walls and high ceilings keep it cool in summer. And through the marvels of technology, a wifi connection is now available in this idyllic rural setting. The surrounding grounds are maintained organically. Set in four acres, Trullo aromatic green provides the space and tranquillity for real relaxation. Amongst the 110 olive trees are many almonds, walnuts, fig, cherries, apple, pear and mulberry trees, providing a garden banquet that guests can feast on. Produce from the land, including olive oil, is provided for your enjoyment at the property, and available to take home. At the front of the house is a large dining table under a shady gazebo. Nearby there is a barbecue . A large terrace is available to enjoy the landscape from a new perspective. Comfortably furnished, it's the perfect place for sundowners or digestifs. There is also an ancient aia where you just relax on a hammock. The kitchen inside is equipped to the standard that you would expect from this impressive property. I expect that you will dine outside most of the time, but if the weather turns, or you fancy a change, the intimate dining room will delight you. The living room provides ample space for everyone to relax. Enjoy the sound system - Bose iPod docking station and CD player - or watch a film on the Tv. A wood burning stove will warm the spirits in the cooler months. The bedrooms: there are one double bedroom and one can be configured as double or twins. They all have their own shower room and bathroom. Two miles away, in a small town called Casalini you can find everything you might need (delicatessen, supermarket, wine cellar, bar, newsagent, butcher, post office) Puglia and Trullo aromatic green will delight you throughout the year. Each season brings its own climate, festivals and produce. In April the days are warm, but Puglia is still quiet. So you would have a great time to explore the surrounding towns, markets and scenery. There are many festival processions over Easter. On May soft fruits such as cherries, mulberries and fiorone (early figs) are in abundance, markets are full of spring vegetables and the fields are full of wild flowers. This is a fantastic season. On June enjoy the countryside and the beaches before the crowds arrive. Days are pleasantly warm, and the nights clear. On July the real start of summer. Enjoy a day on the beach l, followed by a summer festa or concert. Famous classical concerts in nearby Martina Franca run from mid July to mid August. Finally on August explore the beaches and get plenty of rest during the day to ensure you are full of energy for the many festivals that take place throughout the region during summer. On September as the blazing heat of high summer subsides, enjoy pleasant days and some spill-over festivals such as the Jazz festival in Lecce, or buskers in Martina Franca. Places to Go Puglia offers a wealth of diversions; two coast lines, a vast number of hill towns each with their own characteristics, and always beautiful, rugged scenery with knarled olive trees, spring flowers, red soil and acres of vineyards. There will be plenty of information available to you on arrival (or booking, if you prefer) including recommendations and directions for your days out. Local Hill Towns Ceglie Messapica is just 10 kilometres from trulo aromatic green i, and provides all the amenties that you may need, including an attractive old town for your evening promenade. It is famed for its restaurants, including "Ricci's" - which has the accolade of being Antonio Carluccio's favourite restaurant in Southern Italy. Ostuni, just 07 km from Trullo aromatic greeni, is a fantastic hill town, with the centro storico revealing great bars and restaurants. The town has many facilities, and the market on Saturday morning provides everything you can imagine. Cisternino, just 6 kilometres, has its own character and charm, many free summer concerts and great restaurants. Alberobello is a must for anyone interested in the region's trulli buildings. It is a small town, consisting almost entirely of trulli. Although crowded with tourists in summer, it is worth a visit... and we can recommend some great local restaurants to complete your day. Martina Franca is the smartest town in the area. The Sunday evening passeggiata is a display to behold! The old town centre is a typical example of baroque art, with its white lanes, elegant mansions and stately churches and commune buildings.Beaches On this peninsula, you are never too far from the sea. The Adriatic sea is just 10 minutes from Trullo aromatic greeni, with family beaches and all facilities you need - including seafood and gelato! On the opposite coast, the Ionian, you will find stretches of open beach. Both coastlines offer large beaches and quiet coves, with beautiful clear blue water. Further south the shore becomes more rugged and dramatic. As well as a huge number of towns and beaches to visit, many other activities are available in the area Golf, Horse riding, Scuba diving and snorkeling, Kite-surfing, Cookery courses, pasta making, gourmet tours, Yoga (nearby classes or private lessons at Trullo aromatic green), Massage. We will, of course, be more than happy to help you plan and to make you reservations. Please note, some weeks we hold yoga holidays and gourmet tours for individuals or groups. • It's difficult to add something different to the other reviews, other than to say they are all correct. The trullo is beautiful, even more than one would expect. A welcome basket of all the essentials that one could need are awaiting your arrival. Four of us stayed five days in this wonderful Oasis, exploring all that the countryside provided (with of course the significant input of Isa). When we arrived on a spare tire (that's a story for another day), Isa quickly guided us to a great tire shop that within hours had ordered and installed a new tire. In short, if you want a truly great experience in beautiful Puglia... look no further. Steen, Helene, Ronaldo and Catherine

  • We had a fantastic stay at Trullo aromatic green. The house is full of character, beautifully furnished (lots of Indian antiques and modern Italian design) and idyllically situated at the top of a hill with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The house is fringed with little terraces for lounging and eating outdoors. The inside is charming and cosy (not nearly as small as we had feared from looking at the historic Trullos in Alberobella (a world heritage site). It keeps warm in winter and cool in the scorching summers. We lit a cosy wood fire several times (May evenings are pleasantly cool). Foodwise, we loved the saturday food market in Ostuni, the cityper supermarket (for convenience) and the superb Osteria del Tempo Perso restaurant in a cave in the old town. Don't be put off by seeing 'donkey' as a local delicacy on the menu. The food in Puglia is better than almost anywhere else in Italy (dare we say Europe). Isa is a kind, relaxed and generous host. She is nonintrusive, but ready to help whenever needed. She arrived one morning with a tray of cakes to cheer us up when we got a punctured tyre and took us to her tyre specialist for a fast and cheap repair. We couldn't have been happier.

  • There are not enough words to express my delight with this airbnb experience. Isa's description of the property and things to do had me in such a high state of anticipation that I never dreamed that it could be even better. She stocked the fidge with incredible food and picked fruit from the garden...which was great after arriving from such a long journey. Her restaurant and near-by town recommendations were perfect. Everything was so tasteful and cool. It really doesn't get better if you are looking for a quiet country retreat.

  • Isa is a very gracious and generous host who provided us with plenty of information on the surrounding area. The house is a fantastic place to spend a week relaxing. It has everything you need for a perfect stay. We loved the town of Cisternino, which is only a 10 minute drive from the house. For any vegans, we can recommend a little restaurant we came across in Cisternino called Romy and Jole. Thank you Isa for a wonderful stay!

    Natalie2015-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Isa was a wonderful host, and the trullo was beautiful. Photos don't do it justice. We can't wait to come back to the region.

  • Great host, great place, great stay! We wanted to be in the nature and not too far from the beaches - we got exactly what we wanted. Cisternino is our favorite village - a great place to have breakfast and visit before it is too hot..

  • The Trullo was fantastic! We loved every minute. It was the perfect home base for our Puglia vacation. Isa was a lovely host with fantastic suggestions that made us feel like locals - right at home. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND!

  • Isabella's Trullo is a magical place in the southern region of Puglia and is one of the best places we have ever stayed in on Airbnb (and we have been traveling all year!). It's in a secluded community of other Trullo homes along a picturesque white gravel country road, surrounded by olive groves and offering a breathtaking view of the valley below. Isa decorated the Trullo with beautiful hand-carved furniture and art. The location is perfect for exploring the Puglia region and all of the historic little towns around it. There's Locorotondo with its white washed buildings and narrow streets, Martina Franca with its beautiful churches, Albertobello with its fairy tale village of 1000+Trulli and many others. Isa knows everything about the region and will help you make the most of it. Our first day we arrived to find fresh fruit, cheese and wine awaiting us in the kitchen. It was my birthday and Isa even left me a delicious birthday cake in the fridge!! We spent a little over 2 weeks at her home and it was one of the most beautiful, relaxing and memorable experiences of our lives. I can't recommend it enough. If it's available, book it immediately and never look back!

  • Due to the fact that our car broke down, we could not spend the night at Alexis and Lotte's. Still, Alexis invited us over the next day and offered us the opportunity to visit the beautiful cavehouse. Along with a glass of wine the stories of passion and dreams about the region and its habits. We would definitely recommend a stay at Alexis and Lottes troglodyte. Thanks for sharing, Alexis!

  • Alexis and Lotte were wonderful hosts. Very friendly and made our stay memorable. We were given a fantastic breakfast in the morning that sustained us for a long day of touring chateaus! The cave was beautiful and quiet in the evening which made for a good nights sleep. They were also quick to offer suggestions for the area and for restaurants. They have two adorable cats that greeted us as well! Thank you for the experience!

  • This is a very special place. A cave that had been turned into a beautiful and romantic dwelling. The room and facilities were lovely and unique. The only drawback is the gravelly uphill path that is difficult for people with mobility issues. Also do not arrive after sundown as it is very hard to locate the path leading to the cave. We had to stop someone in the neighborhood who consulted with a business owner to find the place. It would not have been a problem during daylight.

Also, the complex lies a few steps from the old castle and the best viewing spot for the famous Oia sunset. Although close to local activity, the Hector Cave House provides peacefulness and privacy.
  • Giannis was very proactive in contacting me early & arranged transportation from the airport to his place. His friend opened up the place for us as he was in Athens. The reviewers were right that the place is even more gorgeous than the pictures. Words can't begin to describe the view & the ambiance. The house is 5 mins walking distance to the bus station which you can take to Fira & the other parts of the island. It is fully equipped with everything you would need to cook a full breakfast, bonus is the Illy coffee machine which he provided come capsules that makes an amazing cuppa. He constantly stayed in touched with us & recommended some nice restaurants & places to go. Also emailed us the map of Oia. He provided a cot for our 3 yr old too. We were supposed to meet up in Athens after but the rain was too heavy, it was unfortunate. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Amazing!! I was traveling with 2 friends around some of the Greek Islands and Hector Cave House won the 5* prize :) We didn't have the opportunity of meeting Giannis, but we were nicely received at 2am (boats delayed!!!!) by someone in charge of the house and Giannis even welcomed us by phone. Giannis also arrange a taxi for us, from the port to Oia. The Cave House was extremely clean, with coffee and bottled water available. The AC was perfect, the location is perfect, a few steps from the most wanted spots to watch the sunset :) and the view from the terrace, breathless.... :) Missing it already, Joana

Merci !

  • Our experience at the Hector Cave house was one of the greatest Airbnb experiences we have ever had. To begin with, the property itself is amazing, the photos do not even do it justice. The view from the terrace of the Caldera is breathtaking and simply doesn't get any better. The home itself is bigger than i expected, very comfortable beds, very comfortable temperature, great size shower and cute kitchen. Ioannis thought of everything we could need, there was iphone/ipod speakers, plus a stereo system, things to cook with, plenty of towels as well as information and maps. Ioannis also left me with the use of greek mobile phone in case we needed anything or to contact him during our stay. When I did need to contact him he with questions on how to find a pharmacy, he was very caring and helpful. The location itself is also ideal for Oia, you are a 10 second walk to view the amazing Santorini sunset. You are extremely close to all the shops, restaurants and cafes and a 5-10 minute walk to the main bus stop and supermarket. There were four of us that stayed there and we required 3 separate transfers from the airport as we arrived at different times and Ioannis was kind enough to organise these for us. The first two of us arrived at 5.30 in the morning and the lovely cleaning lady was kind enough to let us in at this time and make sure we were settled. I thoroughly recommend a stay at this magical place and I definitely plan on going back. Thanks again Ioannis :)

  • Hector Cave House will be the one of the best experiences you will ever have and Giannis and his staff should show other owners how to the care of their guest .

    Craig2017-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • This has got to be the most lovely place to stay in beautiful Oia. Perfect in every way. Giannis is a caring host.

    Tamara2016-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is tidy and has a beautiful sight on the caldera. Then, the host is always available for any information you may need. I strongly suggest to stay there to visit Santorini.

    Salvatore2012-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • As my very first stay with airbnb I could not have been more pleased! Prior to the trip from the moment of inquiry in to Hector's Cave up to and throughout our travel Giannis was extremely helpful and provided so much useful information and suggestions to make our travel to and from Santorini (as well as Athens and about) as easy as possible. I think we followed all of his itinerary suggestions! He has a wealth of knowledge and anyone considering his home should definitely seek it out. We had an early flight to Santorini and Giannis allowed us to leave our luggage in home while it was being cleaned so we didn't have to drag it around with us as we explored the island. The house was exactly as presented on line and was absolutely lovely. Giannis was easy to reach and very prompt to respond to any and all queries (even provided his father's number with whom I had the pleasure of talking when we couldn't reach Giannis.) Only regret was not getting to meet him in person after so much interaction on line and by phone. Highly recommend Hector's Cave; perfect location and wonderful host!

  • ESPECTACULAR!!!!

Be surrounded by nature and yet have all the comforts of home. Be our guest in this cozy log cabin surrounded by tall pines and mountains, and yet still a short drive to Lake Tahoe and the casinos.

It's located in a quiet neighborhood with no one across the street, with views of mountains and tall trees. There's a large meadow and the Truckee River just a short walk away. The cabin is located in a quiet family neighborhood so PLEASE respect our neighbors' peace and quiet and keep the noise down after 10PM. Also, no parties or groups exceeding 8 are allowed and may even result in immediate eviction and/or loss of deposit.

  • Ryan was great about contacting us and letting us know any and all information. His cabin is very clean and beautifully remodeled. We spent Thanksgiving here and had a wonderful time. The cabin is far away from the strip to enjoy the peacefulness of Tahoe and close enough for an easy trip to town. Our first day we sat on the deck in the warm sun and the second day it snowed. The Tahoe Chalet was remodeled and the bathrooms, furniture, kitchen, and esthetics are all wonderful. The people who live around the cabin were all very friendly and helpful. We had two children and a dog with us and the cabin worked out perfectly for them too. All of the adults who were there agreed this was one of the best rentals we have stayed in. We hope to return again someday.

    Kim2014-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures, but I thought pictures make it seem a little bigger than it is – don't expect to fit more than eight people in the main room comfortably. We had no problems at all with our stay itself. The cabin was cleaned and in good condition when we got there. There's a ton of cast iron cookware to cover all of your sautéing and frying needs. You may have to purchase/bring some kitchen staples (e.g. aluminium foil and flour) but I don't necessarily expect to have Airbnbs stock that for their guests. We had no problems using the grill even in the cold. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. We didn't meet Ryan in the flesh, but he provided the entrance code and was very responsive even though he was away traveling. There're grocery stores and liquor shops fewer than ten minutes away by car. Heavenly is ten minutes away and Kirkwood is forty-five. T-Mobile reception was a bit spotty, but Verizon worked great. The WiFi also worked without a hitch.

  • We absolutely loved this property. Everything was exactly as described and of high quality. We would love to stay here again!

    Dan2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great location for our family stay, and we definitely would pick Ryan & Darnie's house to stay in again for a Lake Tahoe visit. The house lodge like in it's feeling and decoration. Directly across the street was a conservancy area with hiking trails that to meadows and a winding river. Neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, and time spent inside with family a fun and rewarding time. This lodge home would please anyone spending time at Tahoe!

  • Awesome place to stay , esp when traveling with family and kids. They have a pretty sweet stack of books, games and movies.

    Samu2017-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very nice location. Very convenient to lake/ snow/ activities. This is my second time coming to this place and enjoyed it both times. The unfortunate part was to have had some issues both times we went with the place not being ready but Ryan was very quick to respond to our needs and made a great effort to make up for it which we appreciated very much. This will not prevent us from going again since the rest of our trip both times were great. Have not went during summer time but during winter it's just beautiful. Thank you again for letting us stay and make more memories.

A sturdy cabin with lots of natural light, right in a flowerful garden. It will feel like living outdoors, while inside the cabin there is a lingering aroma of larix wood and crackling of the woodstove.
This charming garden room has a 180 degrees garden view, with large windows in the front and in the roof. (Full length curtains for the windows allow for privacy.) In the cabin you will find a comfortable bed with good mattress - size 165cm by 205cm and plushy pillows. A comfortable desk and chair, free WiFi – to read or even finish some work. Water cooker and drinking water available. Besides being well-suited for the summer, it is also very cozy for the autumn and winter because of the romantic woodstove. The bathroom and toilet are just a few steps away in the main house. Inside the cabin itself is a faucet for water and thanks to good suggestions from guests there is now a chemical toilet for a pee in the night. We don't offer breakfast or cooking facilities, but her you get quietness and romance :) A small stream meanders past the front of the cabin. In the evening the garden is nicely lighted and makes for a beautiful sight and there are multiple sitting areas in the garden. And chickens to enjoy :) - no roosters! The cabin is about 8mts behind our house. Welcome!
The location is in the largest natural area of the Netherlands. The area is great for both walking and bicycling (if you did not bring your own, we have two you can borrow). Many short and long walking and biking routes through heathlands, woods and meadows start within a kilometer from the house. Also within walking distance (800 meter) are the town centre (with shops and several decent restaurants) and swimming pool. Lakes (including beaches) are 5 kilometers away.

  • Bea and Frans gave us a warm welcome and we immediately felt like home. Our stay at the charming garden room was a very pleasant experience. The room is very cosy, everything was as descripted in the profile and very comfortable. Our hosts were also very helpful with information about the area. We really recommend a stay at Bea's and Frans's.

    Stefanie2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • It was a really unique airbnb experience! The wooden cabin was cosy and comfortable. The best part was waking up with the garden view, and you can hear the chickens and birds outside. It was beautiful! Just slight inconvenience that we had to go out of the cabin to shower. But they provide a small chemical toilet if you need to use the toilet at night. Beas and Frans were very friendly and helpful. They made our stay very enjoyable.

  • It was a great experience to live in the wood house, so beautiful and romantic!! The transportion is also very convenience. It is so special memory:) Thanks Bea and Frans to hold us:)

  • Bea and Frans were fantastic hosts! The Gardenroom was everything you need to have a tranquil and relaxing stay while touring the wonderful, wooded areas of Ermelo. The wood stove was a great touch for those colder evenings and for cooking on. There is something special about the smell from a wood stove and the sound of the fire burning as you sip on some wine. Bea and Frans opened up there house to us and we were very appreciative of that, they are wonderful people and very thoughtful hosts. After a long day of touring around Amsterdam we arrived home late and to our surprise a fire was going in our gardenroom, it was toasty warm, amazing. We highly recommend the Gardenroom, Ermelo, Bea and Frans.

    Ryan2013-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in their garden room for two days and we loved it! It's very cozy and pretty in the inside as well as the outside. Bea and Frans provided us with everything that we needed. If it wasn't for the morning light that comes in, I could totally live there! I would recommend this accommodation to anyone who's looking for a relaxing and comfortable stay.

    Emma2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful little hideaway! I highly recommend it and felt so welcomed by Be a and Frans. I arrived much later as I had to work unexpectedly and they were so understanding. I also had to leave a day early due to an emergency and they unnecessarily but ever so kindly refunded the rest of my stay in cash. All I can say is I‘ll be back!

    Alberta2017-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great experience to stay in the garden house :) Beautiful nature all around us, amazing place to get some relax on our way to Amsterdam. If you want to discover the countryside on your bikes thats a perfect spot to stay :)

  • My husband and I stayed in this riad on our little holiday in Marrakech. We are so happy we chose this place, had amazing time! Riad is beautiful and tranquil, located perfectly to the suke, and felt very safe. And Sabah, who takes care of the riad, is such a lovely lady. We don't speak French, but we managed to exchange a lot of fun stories over breakfast table, and it was so nice. Francoise was very helpful too. She even sent us a document filled with very helpful information about the city before our visit. If we are to go back to Marrakech, we are definitely staying this read again!

    Shoko2013-11-10T00:00:00Z

This bamboo cottage is a secluded eco retreat down a quiet foot path nestled in the rice fields and only a five minute walk to central Ubud. Open air basket weave bedroom with mini loft, modern elegant bathroom and outdoor living area make this a truly unique Bali experience.
This is a woven house made almost entirely of bamboo. It is open air and as close to living in nature as you get. Our main lodge is down a private foot path only accessible to cottage guests. if you choose to join us for dinner, a swim or for socializing with other guests you are welcome to enjoy this common space with a saltwater pool and a swing. :)
This is a hidden spot literally just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Ubud with its restaurants and shops, but it feels lost in time and like a total retreat. In the day you will only meet rice farmers and local women blessing the rice. At night you will only see fireflies and hear the rushing river, crickets and the distant sounds of the temple. An evening massage is a great way to end the day at sunset on the terrace. We have an in house masseuse who is available by appointment.

  • Very nice place with a lot of amenities. The landscape around is amazing... BUT I can confirm what many other people said in the comments, it’s hard to find! Besides, the “entire villa” is not for 4 adult people. Maybe 2 adult and one child but not more.

  • Wayan was incredibly helpful. We didn't get to meet her since she was out of the country when we arrived. But even then, she continued communicating with us for directions and other related matters. The best part was her two amazing care takers! They were extremely accommodating! They even gave us a phone to borrow and a pocket wifi to use. We had an incredible stay because of them. As for our hut, it was beyond amazing! I wish we could've stayed longer. We slept through the sound of geckos, showered under the stars and watched fireflies surround our bed as we sleep. We even woke up to the heartwarming greetings of the farmers in the area. Next time I go back to Bali, I'm staying here again! P.S. For amateur scooter drivers like myself, best to just walk your way to the hut! The ride was a real challenge for me and my boyfriend! :D

  • This place and its staff are amazing, exactly as described in hundreds of other reviews here. This is Bali as it should be experienced. Just wonderful. I'd consider packing light but even if that's not the case the effort in getting to the cottage is still worth it. The hut feels secluded, yet the staff makes you feel safe and looked after. The scenery is gorgeous. Breakfast is delicious. Enjoy your stay!

  • Such a gorgeous way to spend our time in LA - great hosts and great place! We arrived in the evening and were greeted immediately (we were slightly insane after no sleep and 13 hr flight). The apartment was great and Dennis and Alex were on hand when we needed them. Fab pool which we had to ourselves throughout, well equip kitchen and nice bathroom. Comfy bed and cute private patio. We can't fault this place and would definitely stay again! Ps, very sweet dogs.

  • We absolutely loved DnA's poolhouse. The view was stunning. The house was so comfortable, every little detail taken into consideration. The owners were extremely easy to communicate with and responded immediately when we contacted them. We will stay here again when visiting LA.

  • Very very nice House wit a fantastic view over Akureyri. Gunnar is straightforward and simple. He have nice Tips and every thing was function good!! We like to come again!

    Hansueli2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The house was comfortable, clean and well presented. It was well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. The host was helpful and attentive. The house is overlooked on most sides and it does not enjoy it's own garden, so is not quite the tranquil haven we'd imagined. However, the views are great. The hot tub is nice, but needs filling with each use. Some of the finishings left us thinking this house is still 'being finished'. This house is not really equipped for children. In the end we spent less time at the house itself, for various reasons. But it is a decent base to explore the wider area.

    Matthew2014-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The house has a lovely living room, with the floor-to-ceiling windows giving you a stunning view across the fjord to Akureyri and lots of light flooding in. We spent evenings in the hot tub, looking out to the snow capped mountains, and were lucky enough to catch the Northern Lights. (n.b. Icelandic hot tubs are different to ours - you empty them out each time, like a bath, so don't panic that it's empty when you arrive!) Gunnar was very responsive, and called to check we'd settled in ok, which was very much appreciated. The house is a little tricky to find on (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps, so make sure you print off the pic in the gallery where Gunnar's marked its location.

    Ruth2015-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • What can be said about this place that hasn't been said. If you/ when you take the trip up to Akureyri, this should be the only place you consider staying. The house is big and gorgeous. Its on a hill that overlooks the water and the city. Huge kitchen, every amenity you need. Luxurious living for a ridiculously low price. (minus the gas it takes to get up there. haha) We rented a car from Snaefridur, which was dropped off at our the place we were staying at in Reykyavik (talk about considerate host!!) AND it was a brand new Jeep! I never once felt unsafe in that car on the fairly treacherous drive up. The whole experience was unforgettable. The drive up was incredible. The host's communcation was flawless. Checked in when we arrived to makes sure we didnt need anything (soo nice!) The perfect trip to Iceland! I would stay here everyday if i could. We will definitely be back soon!

    Ryan2013-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • You could not ask for a better location on the hillside overlooking Akureyri. House facilities very good. Great bar-b-q. Views and sunsets superb.

    Brian2015-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome design house soaked with light in an idyllic setting facing Akureyri. Unfortunately, not suitable for babies (very echo, no high chair, host kindly bought a baby bed for our last night) nor cooking (stove not working, minimal cookware, no microwave...). Feels like the house has not yet been inhabited by host (no hooks or storage, painting on the floor, stores with no blinds with 24 hours of light...). Hopefully, many defaults can be forgotten thanks to the naturally filled outdoor hot tub with the best view in town. This house does not need so much to be 5 stars.

    Antoine2016-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful home and when the instructions for the alarm were not where they are supposed to be (que loud alarm noise!), Gunnar was very quick to respond so that we could turn it off and even called us back to make sure we were all okay and if we needed help with anything else. Mistakes happen to everyone, but Gunnar was responsive and lovely in dealing with that situation, we enjoyed our short stay there immensely and hope we can return one day for a longer stay!

    Chrissy2016-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • We were 5 people who stayed for 3 nights in Gunnar's apartment. The apartment is lovely, we fell in love with it and did not want to leave. it had everything you would wish for and more. The kitchen is well equipped, it had all kinds of pots, pans and dishes, there is a coffee machine and a grill. We enjoyed the stunning view of Akuryri from the living room through the huge floor to ceiling window. The nieghbourhood was quiet, it was close to the town yet far enough to give a feeling of exclusion and calmness. Thank you Gunnar for an amazing experience:)

This spacious, unparalleled cave house, hanging on the cliffs of the caldera in the center of Oia, is part of a traditional complex of cave houses, owned & renovated by a family of architects.
Crowning a unique complex of cave houses which used to serve as the old bakery of the settlement, and just a moment from the main pedestrian street of Oia, lays the remarkable cave house of sculptural aesthetics. Originally renovated for personal use by local craftsmen, the house perfectly combines traditional style with comfort. The plasticity of its forms, the use of local techniques, the built in beds and the selection of antique furniture together with the modern amenities, strike the right balance between sophistication and coziness. The cave house has two private bedrooms one of which was actually the old cistern, now transformed into a cocoon, cave room. This couples' nest, is five organic-formed steps sideways and below the main level of the house, with an emperor size (200 x 200 cm) built in bed and vintage wooden furniture. The original path that was naturally created by the cliff structure, connecting the two caves which form this house, leads to the master bedroom, on the other side of the house, maintaining the original architectural plan. With a private entrance, two windows and a door that separates it from the rest of the house, this bright and spacious bed room comfortably fits an oak queen size bed (160 x 200 cm), a large desk with a chair, an antique bookcase and a handcrafted mirror. Both bedrooms are equipped with high quality latex mattresses. In the commodious, off-white living room, a warm and relaxing corner has been created by the two large built in sofa beds (easily accommodating two for sleep) and the square beech wood coffee table. On the side, a solid, oak wood dining table is surrounded be a wooden and a built in bench, comfortably sitting a company of six for a luscious meal, right next to the fully equipped kitchen. There, an oven, ceramic hot plates, refrigerator, coffee machine, electric kettle, toaster and cutlery ensure your stay will be as convenient as possible. The bathroom, deeply curved in the cave, with off white local stucco technique and marble from Crete, has a handcrafted marble wash basin and rain shower. Outdoors, the private terraces expand on different levels literally on the rim of the caldera, creating unique angles and comfortable sitting spaces. You have travelled miles in order to come here; this is the time that you can finally dip in the white washed, semi cave whirlpool. Grasp the serenity and beauty of the sensational, unobstructed view of the volcano. The caldera, the sea and the sky which will undoubtedly leave you breathless. Enjoy!
Oia is the most picturesque coastal town on the northwestern tip of Santorini. The town has whitewashed houses carved into the rugged clifftops, and overlooks a vast caldera filled with water.
  • As soon as I came across this listing, I knew it was the place I wanted to stay, and it absolutely did not disappoint. Laskarina was very responsive and she and her husband John were so helpful in getting us settled and answering questions. Laskarina arranged transport to and from the ferry port including help in getting our bags to and from the house. The house itself is really stunning inside and out - just like in the pictures. The view from the patio is like no other and is a perfect spot to sit and relax. It's easy to get up to the main path through Oia - the house is not too far down the hill and is really centrally located. We were able to venture out and explore Oia, but still zip back to the house quickly if needed. Oia is a main destination for tourists from the cruise ships, so be prepared that they often start to appear early and because the house is close to the main walkway, you'll hear and see them on the paths above. That said, the house itself is very quiet and we were never bothered. If you are planning on staying in Oia for a few days, definitely consider this house!

  • We enjoyed a fabulous stay at Unique Architecture in Oia. The house is perfect. Every detail catered for. Great view. A gorgeously inspiring & gracious space that allows for a cool & quiet escape from the sun & the masses. Lovely Laskarina & her beautiful husband Janis were attentive; so warm & welcoming... I'm sure they make everyone feel like they have just made new friends. Real value for money that feels like a home away from home. The perfect choice for Oia accomodation. Totally satisfied... we had a fantastic stay. Thank-you! x

  • Laskarina responded to our queries very quick and managed to clarify everything we need to know before our trip. We arranged airport transfer with her and there was a portal service to help us with our luggage to the apartment! Laskarina's husband, John received us at the apartment and gave us a detailed tour around the house, and there was a bottle of wine for us to welcome us! The apartment was amazing! It was really cosy with breathtaking view right outside of the door. We can't help to take a few seconds to enjoy the view every time we step out of the door. We stayed in the apartment most of the time as most of the shops in Oia were closed due to low season. But it wasn't a problem for us as the apartment was such a nice place to relax and enjoy the view.

  • Laskarina was the perfect host. Her place was great. Perfect location. We were able to walk all over Oia. Beautiful view. Laskarina provided us with a list of recommendations of things to do, places to eat, etc. She also set up transportation for us from the airport to the AirBnB. I would definitely recommend staying here.

    Patty2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Laskarina & her husband were excellent hosts. They were there when we needed them with answers to questions & great advice - but they were not intrusive in our time in any way. The flat is amazing. The pictures don't do it justice. The location could not be better - set in the middle of quintessential Santorini (Oia) - just a short walk from the sunset rock & feet from amazing restaurants. It is clean and open with great heat (important in winter!), stunning views, beautiful terraces .... it truly is perfect! We were 5 traveling & had no problems fitting - plenty of room!

    Keitsa2015-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • A great find in the heart of Oia on the rim of the caldera. Steps from good restaurants and magnificent views (between the tourists). Highly recommended for 2-4 adults

  • Unique Architecture in Santorini is a very special place. I felt really lucky to have found it on here. It's in such a beautiful, peaceful location with views that words and images cannot describe. The cave is so cool, and calming and clean and beautifully designed and styled. It's a magical place to stay. Laskarina is so lovely too. She recommended the best beaches and restaurants to go to and was so helpful. This property was just what me and my friend were after and more. It's an indescribable experience. Magical. Definitely recommended. I hope to return again soon. Thank you! x

Oak paneled walls, wooden window shutters, and warm parquet floors surround you. Choose from hundreds of books and read in a secret bed box behind floor-to-ceiling shelves. Family portraits and heirlooms happily coexist with works of modern art.
Romantic and stylish apartment, It's the perfect base from which to explore Edinburgh from. I've already had some great people come and stay, so I welcome you to my home. Edinburgh castle is a short walk away from the apartment, and the National Gallery, St Giles Cathedral, National Museum of Scotland are all close by. My apartment is on the fourth floor of an 18th Century tenement with views on to the historic Royal Mile. With all mod cons and a unique location, this is the perfect apartment to have as a base while you explore Edinburgh. The apartment retains the unique character of the Old Town with oak panelled walls and parquet flooring, mixed with family portraits, antiques and works of art, but also all the modern comforts of a home. It is on the fourth floor and is reached by a spiral staircase (76 steps in all!) For our American cousins that's a walkup :-) There is no elevator. The apartment is South facing and full of light by day. The hall has a cupboard to hang clothes/store shoes etc. There is also an ironing board/iron and a hair dryer kept here as well. The bathroom has a bath and a shower, there is always hot water and plenty of towels for you to have. Then through the main door off the hall, is the open plan living space. Five full height original Georgian sash windows face you as you walk into the space. Floor to ceiling book cases and a large period fireplace with French empire over-mantle mirror. There is free wifi throughout the apartment, also a big collection of fiction/history/cookery/poetry/art/design books to while away the time with and I have a music/radio player with an eclectic choice of C.Ds. Plus cards and board games. A large kitchen space with character and all the modern cons - toaster, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, oven, kettle, induction hob etc. However I don't own a microwave. There is a washing machine and there is washing liquid capsules for it under the sink, just put one of these inside the washing machine drum and close the door and turn to what ever setting you want. I do not have a dryer (it's not that typical here in Scotland/Europe) what I do have is a clothes horses which you can hang your clothes on. Their kept folded up in the hall cupboard. I hate staying in apartments on holiday where there aren't even any basics to cook with like salt and olive oil, so the kitchen is stocked with all the usual larder fare to help yourself to if you're cooking in. Plus coffee and all sorts of teas. I also have an honesty bar if you want to finish off with a drink or two after a long day of walking around town. By the windows is the generous dining space with oak dinning table and six chairs. The bed is a unique 'bedbox chamber' made from architectural salvaged fitted Scottish 18th/19th century carved oak. A floor to ceiling hidden panelled door lets you into this cosy space with reading lights on the headboard and it is fitted out with a British king size mattress - width 150cm and length 200cm, white cotton sheets, pillows and duvet. Mary Queen of Scots would feel quite at home sleeping in it! The living room area of the apartment is tucked at the West side of the room and has two good size sofas, reading lamps and is perfect to socialize in and also have quiet time with a good book. I hope to hear from you. I'm more than happy to answer any questions or give advice about Edinburgh/restaurants/bars etc All the best Calim
Edinburgh is beautiful and historic. This apartment is in the oldest part of the city, close to the castle. Museums, restaurants, and good coffee shops are really close by, as are the train station and airport links.
  • Where do I begin! Best to sum up in one word! Fabulous!!!! Calim has been so gracious, thoughtful, and kind in making, rechecking and confirming all arrangements, details etc from our first communication to our arrival and even whilst staying in this fabulous apartment. The space is stunning with every amenity you could imagine. This is the one all other air B and B places need to set their standard by. Location, amenities, interior design and most importantly, our host, Calim !

    Jeff2016-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Calim was a truly fabulous host! He was accommodating, super friendly and gave great recommendation for places to eat and drink. The apartment was the best I have ever stayed in on airbnb, in terms of interior design and location. There was everything you need plus more.

    Jodi2015-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment you walk in you become aware that Calim's flat is much more magical than any photo posted. Superbly clean, spacious and functional- yes! But it is also full of charm- the artwork and decor, even in the bathroom gives the place glamour and a coziness. My husband and I woke to the sound of bagpipes cheerfully playing from the royal mile below- and we would then brew the coffee and eat the fresh loaf with butter an jam that Calim left for us. Everything was so easily within reach because the location is simply perfect. My husband was hesitant that he wouldn't like sleeping in a bed that is confined by walls but even he loved it... Edinburgh is a gorgeous city to explore and this flat makes you feel like you're in the heart of it... So even if you sleep in you don't feel like your wasting your day because you see and feel Edinburgh all around you - outside the windows and within the charming apartment. Loved our stay. Thank you for your hospitality Calim and flexibility with check in and check out times!

    Agata2013-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a lovely flat in a perfect location. Central to everything we wanted to visit, we didn't bother to take the bus but simply walked everywhere. The view from the windows was fabulous and every so often we heard bagpipe music drifting in faintly from the streets below. Calim's place was clean, beautiful, exactly as pictured, and there was a wonderful selection of books and music. Calim himself was friendly and pleasant, even welcoming us with fresh-baked bread and tea, and his help with bags was most welcome! We opened windows as the weather was lovely, and found that we could use Calim's vacuum with wand-attachment to vacuum the occasional flies out of the air. (We didn't want to use a fly-swatter around his beautiful chandelier.) It was several flights up a circular staircase to his flat, so just make sure that a good climb doesn't bother you.

  • Edinburgh will forever be one of our favourite destinations because of our stay at Calim's delightful apartment. It was all it promised to be. Delightful, stylish, charming and cozy inside - and glorious views. Perfect location to explore the city. Calim left us some delicious fresh bread so upon our arrival (and as a reward for walking up the stairs!) we were able to enjoy a cup of tea, and make ourselves at home. For during our stay, Calim had provided a great array of restaurant and cafe recommendations and we had two delicious meals at "the Outsiders" and "Luciano's Kitchen". Would thoroughly recommend this beautiful apartment to anyone travelling to Edinburgh. We hope to return one day.

  • This was our first bnb and we were absolutely delighted with this place. Much better than described, fabulous location and everything we needed. But most importantly was the reception by Callum. Information and the welcome / departure were fantastic. You won't be disappointed! Thank you Callum :)

  • Calim's apartment was exquisite and the little touches meant we had a great time, we wish we could have stayed longer. Calim was extremely helpful and welcoming, and his beautiful apartment has everything one might need for a great stay in Edinburgh. His restaurant and 'to do' suggestions were spot on and increased the enjoyment we got out of staying there. Thanks Calim, we had a great time.
