  • David's place is in such a perfect location to explore some of the best parts of Richmond. I booked it with a general idea about where it's located and when we arrived I was so surprised to see just how central it is to everything in the Fan! The inside was adorable, well laid out, comfortable, and clean. Couldn't have asked for more!

    Emily2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place was perfect for my needs. He was very accommodating and gave me great tips for local areas. Right next to one of the local bus routes allowing for easy access to downtown and the rest of Richmond. If I do come back to Richmond, I would definitely stay at his place again.

Excelente Jill, muchas gracias!!!

  • THE DONUTS were amazing, thank you so much for leaving them out. first, i was only in richmond for an evening, arrived after dark and left before the sun rose. what i saw of the space was beautiful, just as the pictures showed. it was a cold blustery night and the fire place was very cozy while i sat back and watched tv. the bed was so very comfortable, and i'm about to purchase the same pillows that were there, they were that great. will be coming through town again in the summer and if the space is available, i would love love love to be able to stay here.

  • A must stay in Richmond- wonderful space and comfy bed. See ya next time.

    Ryan2017-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place! The Sugar Shack donuts were heavenly upon arrival and the place was just cozy and and very welcoming. The listing was 100% as advertised and I can't wait to stay there again. I was already familiar with the area, but it is in a location that works really well as a base for exploring any and all of RVa.

    Mike2016-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Though we never had the chance to meet, Jill was kind to respond to my many messages and texts and make arrangements for us to get in when our train into Richmond was delayed by several hours. The apartment was great- very big, very clean, stylish, and unique. It is the sort of place I'd like to live in if I were a young and hip person working in downtown Richmond. The bed is also super comfy, and the shower worked well. Oh, and as everyone else says, the donuts from Sugar Shack are a nice touch. Thanks, Jill!

    Amy2016-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jill helped us through our first Airbnb adventure. We were able to sign up to Airbnb and book the Gem the night before our arrival (appears we were very lucky!) because she got back to us so quickly. Jill also provided good recommendations regarding local restaurants and activities. The space was very comfortable and well equipped. Did I mention the donuts?

    Steve2016-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jill's. The apartment was very cute, clean and accessible to all we wanted to do. Jill was a great host. she notified us that we could check in early the day of because previous guests had left. Her directions we clear and she even left doughnuts for us which was great because I was starving when we arrived!

    jennefer2016-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a central location in the heart of the lovely city of Richmond, VA, this is the place for you. Its also such a cool use of space that instead of being company, we entertained at Jill's place. From the sympathy she showed over our traffic woes to the welcoming donuts to the comfortable bed in a room designed for sleeping well, Jill is a great hostess The fact that she's a Red Sox fan made my husband feel right at home.

  • The Cozy Row was amazing! I get right at home from the second I opened the door. Tamara and Brice have beautifully decorated the home and the character from the Original fireplaces and floors, add a very warm touch. There is literally nothing more I could've have asked for. I will be staying here every time I come to VA

  • Tamara's cozy cottage is even better than the pictures! It also feels a lot bigger than advertised. My husband and I with our two Labradors felt very comfortable. Tamara was very helpful with recommendations on where to eat. We will be back!

    Alexis2017-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • I needed a place for a night in Richmond for some work and stumbled upon Tamara's place. It's location was perfect - it was easy to get to off the highway and was within 4-5 mins walking distance to downtown/food options. The place was clean and they provided a fully stocked kitchen (tea and coffee provided, some snacks like popcorn and peanut butter crackers), bathroom (shampoo/conditioner/soap provided), and had a tv with apple tv. The check-in process was smooth and I could not have been happier with Tamara's place!

    David2018-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Spotlessly clean, adorably decorated and with a super-comfy bed! Right off the highway - this was an ideal place for me to catch some R&R midway through a road trip. Thank you!!

Additionally, if you are a fan of historic architecture spanning over 2 centuries, the Fan is the place to visit. The hosts gave us our space but stayed in contact with us to ask if we needed anything. The location was perfect & I appreciated the parking passes! Seriously great location!!

  • Cozy, functional, and clean accommodations in a great location. Very good value for a stay in Richmond.

    Tom2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Christy and Derek were AMAZING hosts. So friendly, accommodating, and sweet! We booked last minute and they still made time to show us to the apartment and walk us through, pointing out all of the incredible amenities. The space is beautiful, comfortable, and clean, in a perfect central location to everything you might want to see...we were able to walk almost everywhere during our stay! Christy checked in to make sure we were settling in okay, and we were! The bed was so comfy, and we made time to enjoy the space because we immediately felt at home. It is incredibly private with its own entrance. We actually searched AirBnb to see if we could extend our stay in their beautiful space by a night, but we weren't surprised to find that they already had another tenant on deck! We hope to stay here again next time we are in RVA. Cheers!

    Chelsea2016-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible find!!! Will 100% be back. Perfect spot and amazing place to relax, sleep, and hang out! Christy and Derek were such gracious hosts- they were always a text away and had refreshments and snacks waiting in the apartment when we arrived- even a bottle of wine! Great location and felt very safe and comfortable. All finishes in kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms are updated and decor is chic, simple, and clean. Amazing weekend and SO affordable!

    Emma2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Christy met me and was super friendly and gracious - she showed me how to get to the apartment and how everything worked. The apartment itself was in a great location for exploring Richmond and for going out, but it was still quiet. It was clean and neat - I would totally stay again!

Fulfill that childhood dream of camping out in a treehouse! From this central haven, explore Richmond's trails/river to your heart's content. Then, relax on the deck and enjoy the magic of the trees. — •Airbnb “Top 20 Places to Stay in VA”, (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) •Named as (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) "Best of Richmond" by Style Magazine •Featured in Airbnb article on hospitality, (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) — •4 bikes to use for free •Bathroom, kitchenette and indoor lounge w/ tv in lower level of host house •Dog-friendly — Insta & (Hidden by Airbnb) : @trailside_treehouse
Here's your chance to fulfill that childhood dream of running away and camping out in a treehouse. This is not a tiny house wrapped around a tree or a glamorous treehouse complete with running water and a kitchen. Instead, this is an authentic treehouse that we built for our nephew in 2014, complete with reclaimed redwood walls and windows from our old house. After 3 years of friends asking us to camp out in the treehouse, we opened it up for rentals and created a space devoted to the stuff of childhood dreams. As we designed the space, we asked ourselves one question: what would we have wanted in a treehouse as kids? The Trailside Treehouse is our answer to that question--it's a magnum opus to childhood. Please note: There is a zipline on the property. Per our insurance company, guests are not allowed to use it. Please prepare your children ahead of time so they're not bummed when they arrive! The treehouse isn’t an inexpensive place to stay. It’s not simply a comfortable room to stay in as you pass through town, as are many Airbnb’s. Instead, it’s an unparalleled experience that we hope transforms our guests by bringing them back to their childlike centers. It’s a place to practice juggling or learn new yo-yo tricks. It’s a place to flip through a book about bowling rules and get curious about things you haven’t wondered about since you were a kid. There are notes to discover in the nooks and crannies. There are games you may not have played with since you were a child. There's a bin of junk food and a fridge full of sodas. We've stocked the treehouse with activities that we hope reminds you of the curiosity you had as a child. We want you to feel that your time here is invaluable—that it is a priceless trip that sets you up for a transformative week or month or year. Reinvigorates. Rejuvenates. Renews your very sense of self. ••• This two-story treehouse was designed by renowned Richmond architect, Henry Tenser, and modeled after a western firetower. It was featured (alongside the modern home where the hosts live) on the 2017 Virginia Home and Garden Tour as well as three Westover Hills Neighborhood Association tours and the Modern Richmond Tour. ••• The treehouse sits at the top of a wooded gully that leads to the James River Park System and is mere yards from the popular Buttermilk Trail--one of the most celebrated urban single-track trail systems in the entire country. For trail-lovers and adventure-lovers, you simply can't find a better spot to stay the night in Richmond, Virginia. ••• To access the treehouse, you'll cross a wooden bridge and enter onto the main deck. If you're ready to play, jump into the twisty tube slide and play on the playground equipment beneath the main floor. If you're ready to relax, take a seat on the deck and enjoy your wooded surroundings. ••• Enter the main floor screened porch through the screened doors. The main floor is screened in on all four sides and features two hammock swings--the perfect place to read a book or recount your day on the trail as you rock amongst the trees--mosquito-free (a rare summer treat for Richmond). When more than 4 people wish to stay in the treehouse, this first floor can be transformed into an additional sleeping area with a fold-up memory foam mattress and/or sleeping pads. Just let us know if you need those! ••• The sleeping area on the second story is located up a knee-hole ladder and through a trap door. The second story is surrounded by windows on all four sides, including two fish-eye windows so you can poke your head into the concave plexiglass and get a look at the ground three stories below. The second story also features a balcony, which is accessible through a screen door. You'll sleep soundly under the corrugated corten steel roof. The sleeping quarters features a queen bed with a memory foam mattress and a bunkbed cot, which we leave as a sofa when we have 2 guests and transform into the bunkbed cot when we have 4 guests. ••• The sleeping space comes with a queen bed, standard. For more than two guests, we set up the bunkbed cot. For more than four guests, we also set up a queen airbed and/or sleeping pads on the first floor. So, sleeping options can include: -1 queen bed with fresh sheets and pillows -1 bunkbed camping cot with pillows -2 sleeping pads with 2 pillows -Queen fold-up memory foam mattress ••• Inside the host house, you'll have full, private use of our basement, which includes a temperature-controlled lounge area with a TV, sleeper sofa, bean bag chair, kitchenette with sink, microwave, and Keurig, and full bathroom. The entrance to the lower level is private and accessible from the exterior of the home. The bike room is also in this basement space. You are welcome to take out a bike as long as you sign a waiver and wear a helmet! There are 4 bikes total. ••• Guests may (and should) use the stone fire pit. We’re running a little low on wood, so please bring your own if you think of it. ••• Please let us know in advance how many guests are in your party so we can set up beds, set out the appropriate number of towels, pillows, blankets and make sure there are enough snacks and drinks. Our standard guest limit is 6. If you want to bring a larger party, we have some options. Let us know and we will help you figure out whether the options suit your travel style, including the sleeper sofa inside and putting two children per level of the cot. ~ Standard sleeping arrangements are as follows (let us know if you'd like something different): -1-2 guests: queen bed on 2nd floor -3-4 guests: queen bed + bunkbed cot on 2nd floor -5-6 guests: queen bed + bunkbed cot on 2nd floor + fold-up memory foam mattress on 1st floor -Dog: dogbed on 1st floor ~~ ••• Late checkout is usually fine. Just let us know so I can plan my day accordingly with the kids. You can also feel free to leave your car in the driveway while you enjoy the trails after checkout. Thank you!
Westover Hills Neighborhood is located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. It's a highly sought after area due to its easy proximity to the James River and James River Park Trail System, both of which border the neighborhood. Riverside Drive, on which the Trailside Treehouse is located, is a popular Virginia scenic byway. Expect to see runners, bikers, cyclists, walkers, and more as you cruise down this windy road.
  • this place is a gem and carrie and josh are wonderful hosts!

    Lyndsey2018-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Pure magic from start to finish. Within an hour of being warmly welcomed with a tour, I was checking my calendar to see when I could come back. Amazing amazing amazing!!!

    Suzanne2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Pure magic. A bucket list destination, especially those with children.

    Corey2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the Trailside Treehouse made us feel like we were living out of a storybook for a night! What a unique experience it was. The hosts were extremely accommodating and left us completely prepared to spend a comfortable night among the trees. Even though we picked the hottest day so far this year to be there, the 2 oscillating fans and open-air conditions kept us cool through the night. We were worried that it would be difficult with our 2-year old, but the place was well equipped with everything we would need, and he had a blast on the slide and climbing up and down the ladder. Highly recommend and hope to be back again!

    Lauren2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Welp, just as incredible as everyone else has mentioned. The hosts are helpful, friendly, and real... truly into authentically connecting you to an experience you will never forget. We stopped in on our honeymoon road trip and Carrie & Josh personalized the entire experience for us. I'm happy to share with all of my friends and can't wait to be back. We won't forget this! Thank you so much!!

    Anthony2018-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This adventure was simply amazing only thing I would suggest us just to unwind for being awesome.

    Kenneth2018-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We really appreciate Carrie taking the time to welcome us when we arrived and taking the time to show us around. The bathroom is a small distance from the treehouse but is still private and complete with a shower. The entrance to the trails is also a short distance away and our family really enjoyed wondering through them. The beds in the treehouse were surprisingly comfortable as were the hammock chairs. We also appreciated the many earth friendly steps taken through the treehouse, yard and even bathroom. This was a great place to stay with our family. We hope to do it again soon!

    Shawna2018-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best air bnb we’ve ever stayed at. It was right next to the trails and it was a great day to hike, even in January! The electric blankets kept us warm without any issues. Carrie and Josh were exceptional hosts. They provided lots of awesome snacks too :) we highly recommend the trail side treehouse!

The Manchester Residential and Commercial Historic District is located in the city of Richmond, Virginia, on the south side of the James River. It is connected to the financial district in Richmond by the Lee, Mayo and Manchester bridges. In the 1800s, Manchester along with Richmond, had become a major port and commercial center serving the eastern seaboard and beyond. Manchester was granted city status in 1874 and became the seat of Chesterfield County. In 1910, the city of Richmond annexed Manchester.
  • This is the second time we’ve stayed here. Great hosts and a great place.

  • Tom and Erin’s place was exactly as advertised. What did not show up in the write up was just how responsive and helpful they could be. We arrived late and in inclimate weather.. Erin had the sidewalk and walkway completely shoveled. She also had texted us with weather updates and waited to make sure we arrived safely. Communication was quick, responsive, and helpful.

  • Everything about the stay was great. Thomas was extremely communicative and the entire process was very smooth. The apartment was just as listed; very clean and pretty and the bed was fabulous! Great stay.

    Diana2016-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas's apartment was perfect for my short trip to Richmond, although it would have been extremely comfortable for a long term stay too. Thomas was great at communicating prior to my arrival in order to exchange details, which helped the check-in process go smoothly. The apartment was well-stocked with drinks, toiletries, towels and extra sheets, and the location afforded a good deal of privacy without having to worry about prying neighbors. Street parking was easy to find. I would definitely come back!

    Sana2016-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this charming efficiency. The space had everything we needed and was much bigger than photos convey. The space was immaculate, the bed so very comfortable, and the fridge was stocked with goodies. The efficiency was updated with all the latest technology (roomba, bose sound system, flat screen, w/d, dishwasher, etc.) which we were very impressed by. Thomas' sister Erin lives upstairs and manages the property, and both Erin and Thomas were extremely responsive to our needs and checked in on us, which was very appreciated since we had an extended stay. We really enjoyed the location -- there are a couple great coffee shops and restaurants walkable, and it's only a short drive to downtown Richmond. I would definitely recommend booking this efficiency!

***Holiday Visitors*** I have blocked off the 23-27 of December due to personal travel plans. Anyone is welcome to inquire about those days. Incredible location in historic Church Hill. 30 seconds from Alamo BBQ, Union Market, a one minute walk to Sub Rosa, The Rosevelt, five minute walk to Patrick Henry's, Proper Pie, The Hill Cafe. 12 minute walk to Shockoe Bottom and any number of bars and restaurants therein and an Uber ride home from the bottom usually runs $7 one way.
Location, location, location: this place is right smack dab in the middle of where you want to be if you’re staying in Church Hill.
  • Genes place was super clean and quiet. Perfect for my night in town for work. Easy to get to. Will definitely stay here again. Thanks, Gene.!

    Ashley2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • I loved staying here! Really fun and unique space, very quiet, and within easy walking distance to several awesome restaurants, bars, grocery stores...everything you could need. I was only here one night but had a great dinner and cocktails at the Roosevelt just down the street, and had no problem getting to the airport in the morning. Gene was amazing with communication, getting into the space was straightforward, the entire experience was great!

    Emily2018-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Genes Place was pretty cool. Very eclectic and progressive art vibe. Love all the notes on the walls. And the wall unit A/C’s... perfect!! We arrived to a nicely cooled down house just how we like it! Thanks for letting us stay

    Justin2018-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Gene's place was cute and artsy! We enjoyed our overnight stay. Close to downtown Richmond and beautiful charming old home. Gene was friendly, the home was clean, and quiet. The only thing was one part to the neighborhood that was undesirable. Overall we felt safe and would recommend!

    Dominica2018-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Gene’s place was great! Very stylish and unique. The check in system was awesome and he even accommodated our time needs with short notice which was very well appreciated. The price and stay are definitely worth booking with him again!

    Adrienne2018-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very communicative. Accommodated my requests. Checked in with me during my stay. Clean, eclectic, interesting art pieces in the apartment. There seemed to be a balcony that was off limits, but I never got around to asking Gene about this, and it didn't matter bc the place was great. Would definitely book again.

    Liz2018-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • A sweet neighborhood cat named Breakfast will stay by your side as long as you let him. Neighbors are vehemently inclusive of all types of people. Shops and restaurants are right on the next corner of the neighborhood. Personal touches directed towards each guest are instituted by Gene!

    James2018-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Genes place is truly incredible. I will be back for another stay and highly recommend his place for a stay in Richmond you will not be disappointed.

This house, built in 1900, is located in the fascinating, historic neighborhood of Jackson Ward. It is within easy, short walking distance to VCU, the Fan, and Downtown. The neighborhood itself has many bars and restaurants within a 5-minute walk. All other parts of the city are within a quick 10-15 drive or longer walk, if you feel like taking your time. There are three sweet animals on the premises - 2 dogs and 1 cat. **Please read everything below before booking.
This guest bedroom has wooden floors, a ton of natural light, it's own A/C unit, space heater, bright, artistic decor & a TV with Roku. The queen bed has a pillow-top mattress, soft sheets, firm pillows and a duvet for colder weather. You have closet space, shelves & hangers to use. The shared bathroom with a shower is right next to the room.
Jackson Ward is a fantastic, central location in and of itself for history & great food and also for accessing other great parts of the city. There is a bar just at the end of my block - the Gwar Bar (yes, owned by the metal band of the same name). Saison restaurant and its adjacent market (mostly beer and snacks) are three blocks away. Sahara Mediterranean Restaurant, Rogue Gentleman's Bar, Max's, Idle Hands Bread Company, Comfort, Spotlight Gelato, Lift Coffee Shop, Mama J's, Bistro 27, Tarrant's, and Quirk rooftop bar are all within a 5 minute walk. The closest grocery store is a 10 minute walk away. This is just a snapshot of what is within close-range.
  • My wife and I enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the Van Gogh room, and the bed, sheets, and pillows were very comfortable and the AC plus ceiling fan in the room were great for helping reduce humidity and keeping cool, comfortable sleeping temps. The bathroom was pretty awesome with double-shower and nice sink and toilet. We had access to the kitchen but didn't need to use it much. We particularly enjoyed Colby the house cat!

    Derek2018-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Tara was very helpful with parking tips due to a street art festival. And I found parking right near her home both nights! I never heard the dogs. Tara was delightful. I will definitely stay here again.

    Rebecca2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Tara’s home is absolutely stunning and situated on a quiet street in the middle of the art district in downtown Richmond. It was a lovely and short walk to Broad Street where we were seeing a show, and we loved the convenience of the bars and bottleshop in Jackson Ward. The room is beautiful and comfortable, and the large shower in the bathroom was an unexpected treat. I wish we could have stayed the whole weekend to enjoy this place!

  • Bill was a wonderful host and we had the best first experience with airbnb staying at his comfortable and sunny apartment. The location is so convenient to many restaurants and the museums, as well as Carytown. We walked everywhere. I loved the many maps Bill provided with the apartment and Bill took the time to talk to us about the many must see things and where to eat in the neighborhood as well as in the city. I can tell Bill loves his city and wants to share it with his guests. The apartment has everything one needs for a comfortable stay. I would love to come back to visit Richmond and stay at Bill's.

    Anh2015-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Bill was a great host, very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and definitely willing to help. The apartment is superb, you even get a private 2nd floor deck, which was one of the highlights of our stay. Overall a great experience, but on the flip side, this is not a good place to stay for someone who is allergic to cats or sensitive to some cat hair.

    David2012-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Bill was a great host! I booked on short notice and he was very accommodating even though he had plans that day. He made sure to bring fresh strawberries. The apartment was clean and felt like home. The location was great and parking was simple. I hope to stay at Bill's again.

    Douglas2013-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed in this airbnb twice now and would recommend it. Location is great with lots of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Art museum and other attractions are also close and the neighborhood is wonderful.

    Christine2014-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful week stay at Bill's house. The apartment was very clean and carried the Historic Fan theme throughout it's decor. Bill and Lissa were continually attentive to our requests, although we had very few. Everything was already taken care of for our stay.

    Christie2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Bill and Lissa were wonderful hosts. The space was lovely, private and cozy with all of the basic needs, plus some extra niceties that made it very welcoming. It is in a great location as well. It is walking distance to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and to many restaurants. I would recommend this AirBnB to anyone. Many thanks to Bill and Lissa for making our first AirBnB experience so lovely.

    Catherine2014-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • A clean, quiet, and spacious private apartment in a great part of Richmond. Walked to nearby bars, restaurants and the art museum. Bill stocked the apartment's kitchen with fresh fruit, coffee, and cereal. Will definitely stay there again!

    Maureen2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Once again, Bill and Alissa's gorgeous place in the Fan has been a terrific experience! The suite is beautiful, in a perfect location, and their hospitality is out of this world. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Beautifully decorated 1-bedroom apartment that is walking distance to tons of fun things to enjoy in the Fan. You will have the entire place to yourself including a huge bedroom with king bed &TV, living room with double-high queen air mattress (way more comfy than sleep sofa) and TV, bathroom and kitchen with microwave, fridge, stove, washer/dryer, etc. Also has a private lot for off-street parking. 2blocks from Carytown, 3blocks from VMFA, 3blocks from Byrd Park.
  • Located in a great area. Clean, well decorated and had that Carytown charm. Loved the outdoor space! Favorite part of the apartment was the bed. Soft, king sized mattress. Will use again when visiting RVA.

  • This apartment is on a lively Main Street full of restaurants and bars. Great location! The apartment is on the second floor of an old row house that’s been recently upgraded. Some renovations remain unfinished (shower dial and faucet haven’t been caulked to secure it, sink hasn’t been attached fully to the base cabinet) but the place was very clean and good for one night. Check in and out were super easy. David provides water and snacks as well as soap and dish liquid. The road outside the apartment bedroom is noisy but David thoughtfully provides a noise machine. Was just fine for our needs and we’d recommend to others.

    Katie2018-04-13T00:00:00Z

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Cool bedroom with tons of amenities in the heart of the Fan! Walkable to VCU, the Siegel Center, museums, art galleries, theaters, a brewery, Training Camp, a bike share station, and so many restaurants and shops. Perfect for solo adventurers, couples, business travelers, & more! If you're conscientious and respectful in shared spaces, and want to stay in the best neighborhood in RVA, then welcome to our home, friends! Walk Score 93/100: Walker's Paradise. ☞ Book now!!!! ☜
Welcome to the Kuma room! This room is one of 3 upstairs bedrooms in our historic home. We live here full-time so it will be a shared living space with us and sometimes another Airbnb guest in the 3rd bedroom. As such, you must be OK with sharing a bathroom/shower and kitchen with us and other guests, and possess the conscientiousness and patience that can sometimes require (and please no excessively long showers or baths). We have been Airbnb Superhosts for over a year and are excited to start sharing our home with Richmond's many visitors!
Richmond locals know that the Fan is the place to be. An eclectic mix of residential and commercial spaces, this is where RVA natives come for their favorite shops, bars, and restaurants. Additionally, if you are a fan of historic architecture spanning over 2 centuries, the Fan is the place to visit. Walking around neighboring streets, you will find a variety of architectural styles such as Italianate, Richardsonian Romanesque, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Bungalow, American Foursquare, Tudor Revival, Spanish Colonial, and Art Deco. (Not to mention some impressive front yard gardens!) We live right where the residential neighborhoods become mixed use, so there are plenty of shops to pop into or restaurants to try as you explore the beauty and culture of the area. You can read our full guidebook to RVA "Why We Love Richmond" at the following URL: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/13574336/guidebook
  • Christy & Derek's place was fantastic. It is exactly as pictured, in a perfect location, and with plenty of access to nightlife. They have everything you would need and the whole apartment is extremely clean. I would definitely stay there again!

    Michael2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • This air bnb is the perfect location to all the great restaurants in the fan. Also walking distance to many other venues Richmond has to offer. I was visiting VCU and this was perfect. Christy and Derek are very knowledgeable of the area and help when ever needed. The room was uber comfortable. We already miss Kuma

    Liz2018-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Was astounded by cleanliness and also by the welcoming vibe the hosts had. Made it easy to check in and amenities were great! Definitely recommend using for a weekend visiting RVA.

  • Perfect spot for downtown Richmond activities! Derek and Christy are super friendly and so are their cats! I’d definitely recommend their place.

  • Christy & Derek have a beautiful home and they were exceptional hosts. Thanks for a great trip to Richmond.

    Steven & Nicole2018-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at Christy and Derek's and it was fantastic again! We were there for a week. They are just so welcoming and have such a beautiful clean space. They really think of everything and Kuma and Tora are good company as well. The bed is comfy and it's quiet and relaxed. I had to check in on work a couple of times and the desk space doesn't make you feel cramped at all. Plus, faster wifi than I have at home. We had no problem finding parking, but the house is also walking distance to great places to eat, museums, and art galleries.

This private one bedroom apartment is located a few steps from Carytown and all its amenities... restaurants, boutiques, bars, and shops. The renovated space is cozy yet ample and also less than a ten minute drive from University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, and downtown Richmond. FOR YOUR BENEFIT please read the entire listing description and ask any questions you might have :-)
This 800sqft apartment is the private downstairs floor of a historic brick home built in 1913, my wife and I live on the upstairs floor. You enter the house through a shared front door to access a common area foyer and then there's a separate private door to enter the downstairs apartment. The bedroom has a queen size bed and the couch is an additional sleeping accommodation for one person. (Not a pullout sofa, but quite comfortable for an adult.) You'll find the kitchen equipped with stainless steel appliances, coffee maker, basic food staples (coffee, flour, salt/pepper, olive oil, etc.) and cookware essentials. The bathroom is what you could politely call 'snug' so if you're a tall/large person you might feel squeezed for space. The apartment finishes include pine and tile flooring, high ceilings, neutral color tones, and stone counters.
Located in the vibrant and charming Museum District less than a block away from Cary Street (aka Carytown). Within a few steps there are restaurants, bars, local coffee shops, boutiques, three grocery stores (Fresh Market, Ellwood Thompson's, Kroger), a post office, brewery, two dry cleaners, and even vintage $4 movie theater.
  • Justin's place is less than a block away from all the little shops, restaurants, or places to grab coffee that you could ever need! My girlfriend and I had a great time exploring Carytown, as well as other parts of Richmond, thanks to Justin's cozy and conveniently located listing.

  • Awesome location, walking distance to Carytown. The APT was very clean.

    Ray2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at Justin's place! Such a nice apartment- very clean and had everything we needed! Location was great too! Bathroom was definitely small and water pressure wasn't the best, but everything else about this place was perfect!

    Sarah2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Justin's place is absolutely beautiful. Its proximity to some of the major sights and museums in Richmond was really convenient. Parking was easy, the house was extremely clean and had all of the amenities of an upscale hotel without the expensive price! Justin even went the extra mile and provided snacks and drinks and a bunch of delivery menus. Overall: great experience, great location, would definitely stay again and recommend to my friends!

She had delicious local coffee available as well as fresh fruits and the basics. The apartment was spacious and just a short drive near good restaurants (area map included!). Ami is a warm and inviting host, and her space reflects that energy. Thank you!

Manchester or "Old Towne Manchester" is a residential neighborhood and commercial historic district south of the James River in Richmond. Many vestiges of its past are clearly visible, notably the courthouse, the Hull Street business district, a number of historic houses, and several former railroad and street railway buildings. It is connected to the financial district in Richmond by the Lee, Mayo and Manchester bridges. In the 1800s, Manchester along with Richmond, had become a major port and commercial center serving the eastern seaboard and beyond. The skyline is dominated by the Southern States silos, the tallest structures south of the River. Today, Manchester is a unique stamp of local hipness and urban revitalization!

    Enrique2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice apartment.

    Charles2018-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Good spot for visiting Richmond, with a car. If you’re not a fan of box-spring beds, might not be the place for you. Comfortable couches and big space good for hanging out. Also large bathroom with towels. Quick communication with host and key / getting in and out was easy. Apartment itself is not near downtown so you have to drive or take Lyft. Also if you plan to watch tv, I would have your own credentials handy. WiFi was easy and worked well though.

    Michael2018-04-27T00:00:00Z

    Julia2018-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • I extremely enjoyed my stay. Nakiya’s places was very clean and had wonderful ammenity. She responds to questions and concerns and genuinely wants the best time for her guest. 10/10 for this place.

    Arian2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Felt as if I was living the high life! Amazing place.

    Shelby2018-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • This stylish condo had everything we needed. Nakiya was extremely friendly and left very detailed and easy to follow directions. Along with a pretty great view of the city, everything you could want is just a quick Uber trip away. My only negative feedback would be the noise from neighbors above the bedroom. You can hear every footstep from the neighbors above when you are in the bedroom. Besides a little noise occasionally coming from the upstairs condo, this place is perfect!

My place is ten minutes walk from downtown, in the Churchill Historic District. Jefferson Park is across the street with workout equipment overlooking the city. There are many restaurants in easy walking distance with the famous Alamo BBQ just a block away. You’ll love the neighborhood and the cozy bed with blackout conditions when you close the doors. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. Hypoallergenic with HEPA air filter.
I work from my home and value open space and clean lines over possessions. I spent a lot of time in Japan and absorbed some the aesthetics of home decor there.
Churchill is an old neighborhood with distinct architecture and history. Patrick Henry gave his famous "Give me liberty, or give me death" speech just up the street at St. John's Church. The streets are lined with full trees and the sidewalks are paved with funky old bricks. Neighbors always say hello. There are several acclaimed restaurants within easy walking distance like the Roosevelt, Proper Pie, Alamo BBQ, and Dutch & Company. You can also walk down to the clubs, bars, and restaurants of Shockoe Bottom.
  • Will's place is very spacious for a studio and has a cute little doored-off area for the bed. The location is absolutely awesome if you like food - there is an out of this world bakery, a couple delicious restaurants, and a healthy-food convenience store within walking distance. Parking is abundant and easy, and the backyard has a nice peaceful feeling!

    Erin2018-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication, super easy check-in. Studio was surprisingly much larger than I originally thought. Very clean and organized! Neighborhood is adorable.

    Christina2016-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Will was very responsive and an attentive host. The place is under an lot of history. A note: if you need a more substantial mattress let Will know and I am sure he can work with you.

    Noah2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Will was super quick and easy to communicate. The apartment was clean and smelled nice and fresh. The location was easy to get to and from (though I will never understand roundabouts in a city...), and we were able to find street parking pretty easily. There is no cable TV, but we used the HDMI cable to hook the computer up to the TV and watched Hulu and Netflix no problem. Unfortunately, the upstairs neighbors were loud early in the morning, so we didn't get a good night's sleep either night we were there, but otherwise, the apartment was great for a landing spot for a couple days.

    Rachel2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Super convenient to downtown Richmond. This was our second time staying here.

    Fatima2018-02-03T00:00:00Z

    Dan2016-08-06T00:00:00Z

Beautiful historic house in the Fan. Despite being a quiet residential area, the Fan is walking distance to some of the best restaurants in the city. Eat breakfast on our beautiful terrace shaded by a 150 year old tree. Visit the museum or the movies without the car!
I am a musician and have salon concerts given by the best classical and acoustic musicians in the city.
Our neighborhood is amazing! We have concerts in a small secret garden a block away from our house. You can get a glass of the best prosecco and tapas around the corner and visit our museum up the street. Carytown is minutes away on foot with local artisan stores, turn of the century cinema and amazing restaurants, bars and cafes.

They made my stay in Richmond special and I'll definitely be going back if I travel there again. The house is beautiful and in a wonderful location too.

Monument Avenue (one of the top avenues in America) is a lovely place to stay while visiting Richmond. You will be in the center of it all. The condo is within close proximity to several museums; famous Carytown known for it's boutiques, restaurants, and specialty shops; Scott's Addition known for it's many micro breweries; the Richmond Diamond, home of the Flying Squirrels; two college campuses, VCU and U of R; Downtown and the James River.
The condo is on the 3rd floor of a historic building. (no elevator so pack light!) The space is a 500 sq. ft. condo with 1 bedroom with 1 queen size bed, living room with breakfast bar, kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances and a bathroom with shower and jetted tub. The space is your home away from home. relax and enjoy. The bedroom closet is purposefully locked. If you need to hang clothes, please use the front closet.
This is a safe neighborhood with friendly people. You will see many people running, walking or biking along this beautiful tree-lined avenue.
  • Nice and clean. Updated space. Very comfortable bed. Had to park across the street.

    Brenda2017-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Michael's place for two nights and loved it. It felt like a hotel in its cleanliness and decor but had all the comforts of home. We loved the neighborhood and took some long walks down Monument. We also loved Early Bird Biscuits, Heritage and Lunch. Supper. The jalapeño cider at Buskey was top notch, too, as were the antique finds at Class and Trash. Overall a great weekend!

    Sarah2017-06-11T00:00:00Z

  • We wanted to rent the condo starting a day earlier than planned and Michael helped us get thru the necessary steps . We had a problem because we had no internet when trying to make the change. Thanks again Michael!

    Herb2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's place was perfect for our short weekend getaway! Exactly as described, neat and clean, easy check in and a fantastic location. Housed in a lovely historic building just half a mile from Cary Street and a quick drive to nearly everything else you'd want to do in Richmond, we very much enjoyed our stay and would rent this space again in a heartbeat. One important note is that the kitchen is not to be used for cooking, but you can use the fridge, microwave, Keurig and sink, so unless you hoped to make proper meals, the amenities are perfectly suitable.

    Sarah2016-12-04T00:00:00Z

My renovated townhouse is located in the historic Fan District; within walking distance of dozens of restaurants and VCU's Monroe Campus. The guest room has a private entrance through the garden and off-street parking.
Come and explore the heart of Richmond's historic Fan District. My house on Floyd, is blocks away from VCU, hailing distance from the James River, and a brisk walk to Downtown or Carytown. Built in 1889, the modest frame house is set back slightly from its neighbors. It nestles behind an iron fence and arched gate, in an established garden. It was the first house built on the block and has a fenced garden at the rear of the house. Guests will stay in my first-floor apartment. I live here, as well. There is one shared bathroom, two steps away from your room. Your room has a private entrance to the garden and a reserved off-street parking spot. The recently completed garden screen house is a pleasant place to enjoy a drink. The guest room has a new full-size bed and mattress with a memory foam. An iBed cot, with foam mattress, is available for a restless sleeper. There will be a small fee for a third guest. There are down and feather pillows and soft cotton sheets and fluffy towels. Should you like, I will make a carafe of coffee; there is an assortment of teas. You are welcome to use the refrigerator and the stove for light cooking. The 26" monitor is equipped with Chromecast. You can cast your Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and other accounts for viewing. Wifi is available. The house is within walking distance of thirty restaurants, coffee shops and bars. There are museums, galleries, parks and the James River, all within a short walk or drive. Carytown, a dynamic shopping and entertainment district is a mile away.
The Fan is filled with wonderful architecture and interesting, creative people. My favorite Cuban restaurant is two blocks away, Foo Dog, a half block, and the James River and Hollywood Cemetery are a bike ride or short drive away.
  • Lovely, homey, charming, great location.

  • Catherine is a fantastic host, and her house is wonderfully cozy and welcoming. She provided so much information about the surrounding area and even made us coffee and came to cheer us on at our race! (We were in town for the marathon.) She is truly a wonderful, welcoming person and we would absolutely recommend her place to anyone staying in Richmond.

    Kendall2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • An interesting place with lots of color and light and plants. Nice cat and dog that like attention but willingly leave you alone, too. Catherine is a fantastic host and had some great suggestions for us.

    Carrie2017-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine is super friendly and her place was extremely comfortable. Great location too, walking distance from some great restaurants and bars! No issues with the room, host, or location; our 1-night stay though coincided with a gathering at the home (unaware this was the case) and we were hoping for a more quiet visit overall. Regardless, the house is nice, Catherine is really interesting and has some great knowledge of Richmond landmarks and good eats, and the room was generally comfortable and cozy (no lock on the door!)

    Sanjay2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovingly eclectic space and gracious hostess. Location is superb with so many restaurants and entertainment within walking distance. Richmond is a beautiful city, well worth visiting. Staying at Catherine's made it all the more pleasant and memorable. Amazing and gracious hostess.

  • I'm not going to lie, when I checked out of this home I felt melancholy. I left a piece of my heart in this place. The backyard felt of zen and the tenants in it were loving. The bed was comfortable and Catherine was a breath of fresh air. I wouldn't miss out on having a conversation with her. Enjoying the back patio or any spot in the backyard is a must! There is plenty of lighting and seating at day and night. Her dog is a king and very proper. Give him some love, he is a king. =) She gave me a map; highlighted and explained the area so I could get around easily. I WILL be staying here again when I'm in this area. So wonderful to have met you Catherine. You are a beautiful soul.

  • Cherry blossoms were blooming. Lovely spot

    Larry2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine's home was very charming with a very comfortable room to stay in while we were in Richmond. We wish that we had visited later in the spring to enjoy her spacious backyard living area.

Hospitality is what we do. This downtown apartment has been fully remodeled in 2014. The apartment is above Lucy's Restaurant, owned and operated by a husband & wife team and is solely dedicated to hosting guests. We're convenient to the Richmond Convention Center, VCU, music venues, and local attractions. Visit us downstairs for lunch, brunch (weekends), or dinner. Serving lunch Tue-Fri 11-3, brunch Sat & Sun 10-2, dinner Tue-Sat 5-10 (Website hidden by Airbnb)
Brand new apartment, thoughtfully furnished with our guests in mind. Coffee, hot tea, full kitchen, dishwasher, washer/dryer, blow dryer, shaving mirror, soap etc, first aid kit, iron, high quality linens, towels, blankets, luggage racks, closet space, king size bed, twin bed, upscale queen plus sleeper sofa, cable, wifi, ceiling fans throughout.
Located in historic Jackson Ward we are close to great restaurants, theaters, galleries, museums and much more. Walking distance to Richmond Convention Center and The Coliseum.
  • The apartment was super clean and super comfortable! Very recently upgraded throughout! Also nice little touches here and there such as fresh cut flowers, reading material, coffee and tea, etc. The location is pretty good with about a 20 minute minute walk to the river. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Amanda was great to deal with. Excellent communication. On our second day, I mentioned that since I'm a super-light sleeper, I had a little trouble falling asleep the first night due to a downstairs air conditioner. She kindly offered to fetch me ear plugs and that they were working on fixing the issue. Lucy's Restaurant is directly downstairs, which is very convenient. We ate breakfast there on Saturday and it was fantastic! The bacon donut holes were to die for! They also have a great bar and fix a mean old fashioned for a nightcap before retiring upstairs for the night. I'm sure lunch and dinner would be excellent as well. Would definitely recommend this place next time you want a comfortable place to stay in downtown Richmond.

  • Amanda has a great clean and welcoming place near the convention center. Well stocked kitchen equipment. Amanda was very thoughtful making sure that we had coffee, tea, and a very clean place to stay. The apartment was spotless and the linens were cottony and soft! Very happy with her apt.

    Rhonda2017-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • I've stayed at numerous AirBNBs for business travel. I think this was the best value of all. Great communication. Great space. Clean and comfortable. Easy access to town. A+

    Maureen A2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot for our family, including a one-year old and our dog. Baby gate at the top of the stairs helped with both and the place came as advertised: very comfortable and lots of nice touches.

    Ryan2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, clean, comfortably slept 5 for a great price! We had an informal Friendsgiving in the house and a great vacation weekend. Thanks for everything!

    Ariel2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda's place gives you everything that is promised and more. In other words, the Airbnb entry doesn't really tell you how nice Amanda and Jason are. So, I am telling you - these are thoughtful and kind folks. You will feel very welcome. This is an excellent home away from home.

Private studio with lots of character in Churchill. Built in 1840 and part of the historic district, it has its own entrance, private bath, kitchenette, and porch. Enjoy quiet & private settings. Only 1 mile to downtown. Walk around Chimborazo or Libby Hill Park. Near many restaurants, coffeeshops, museums and historic places. Virginia Capital Trail is less than a mile away.
Please note that this is a studio good enough to host 2 people. This is not a 5 star hotel or a hotel at all. By booking this studio, you only have access to the private studio, its bathroom, kitchenette, and front porch. Please do not attempt to enter other parts of the house. There is construction next door and thus there is potential for noise but it is quiet for most of the time, especially at night. I offer a clean and safe place to stay at an extremely affordable price! so if you are looking for a 5 star hotel this studio might not be for you. I do this to offer travelers and alternative as they travel, please understand you are not booking a hotel, this is my house. The place is historic and has a lot of character and everything works! You will not find the IKEA type of place so if you are not independent, adventurous or are bothered by antique construction/furniture this place might not be for you. Take care and safe travels!
Church Hill is an Old and Historic District in Richmond, Virginia. It is well known for Chimborazo Park, where the largest American Civil War Hospital was located. It is also known as the site of Virginia's second revolutionary convention, where Patrick Henry gave his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech in St. John's Episcopal Church, Richmond, Virginia in 1775. In recent years, Church Hill has undergone gentrification and it is now home to many small businesses, including restaurants, bars, hair salons, and boutiques. In 2014, Church Hill was named one of the "10 Hot Food Neighborhoods Around the U.S" by Zagat. In 2015, Redfin included Church Hill in a roundup of most walkable neighborhoods in the city—while Richmond was named #9 in their list of Top 10 Most Walkable Mid-Sized Cities.
  • Not only an excellent value, but a great little place. The architecture & charm is amazing. Location is perfect to downtown and other highlights. Lots of restaurants nearby to enjoy! Carlos is a fantastic host! High level of communication. It's a great spot to enjoy!

    Deborah2018-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very sweet place and a very sweet host! Carlos was very easy to get in touch with. The space was cute and clean. The bedding was super comfortable! I appreciated the booklet of ideas for places to go in the area. I would definitely recommend it and stay here again myself.

  • Carlos was a great host! He was so kind to check in and make sure we were comfortable. The place was very clean and nice.

    Monica2018-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is full of history! Very cool space and location. Close to lots of historical landmarks if you love that as much as i do.

    Susanne2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place suited our needs. We were able to get around without problem, and was close to restaurants and our concert facility.

    Lindsay2018-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • For whatever reason you may be in Richmond, carlos’ spot is ideal. I was in town for a work training for a week, and his spot made me feel like I was on vacation. Very cozy and clean, and the location is prime whether you want to relax or explore Richmond’s downtown or various outdoor activities. Also, easy access to the highway (without being “near” the highway) which made getting to this training very simple. Will definitely be back for a true vacation soon!

    Natalie2018-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Carlos was an amazing host. Was available when i needed anything. He even sent me some of my belongings that i left behind. I would def recommend this one!

  • A cute little apartment in downtown RVA perfect for a couple to stay in. Carlos was a great host and answered quickly and even came over to help when I had questions about the place. He let us check in early and was flexible with check-out time, which was much appreciated. By far the best tub-shower I've ever been in, great water pressure and hot water. By a nice park I wish I had gotten the chance to check out. Easy street parking. Would definitely stay again!

Awesome apartment in the heart of the quiet and historic Church Hill neighborhood. Church Hill is located only minutes (or an approx $6 Uber ride) from downtown Richmond. A great retreat for anyone visiting the city! CH has grown in the last few years and now offers great options for restaurants and even a little night life within walking distance. Enjoy the views of the city from the parks, the architecture and the general good vibe the neighborhood has to offer.
This is an elegantly remodeled 2-story apartment boasting a number of amenities including exposed brick walls, giant windows, pocket doors, a gas fireplace, dishwasher, w/d, central heat and air, a clawfoot tub, hardwood floors, both a front and back porch and more. Decorated in a minimal and modern fashion with a good vibe and quite comfortable overall.
What doesn't Church Hill offer?! Everything listed here is within a 10 minute walk from the apartment. - So many restaurants and bars including The Roosevelt, Dutch & Co., Patrick Henry, The Hill Cafe, Union Market, WPA Bakery and Sub Rosa Bakery, Proper Pie and more - 3 Parks offering incredible views of Richmond and the James River - Historic sites such as St. John's Church and a Richmond National Battlefield
  • We loved staying at Tasha's place! It was beautiful and very comfortable. The neighborhood seemed totally safe and was very quiet. It was an easy drive to where we wanted to go (the Fan, Carytown & the National downtown). The rooms did get a bit cold but there were space heaters available that made it more cozy. The bed was super comfortable!! We'll definitely stay here again!

    Sara2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Tasha's place is funky and awesome. She was easy to communicate with before and during the stay, and offered everything we needed for our reunion weekend -- style, great location, colorful tips about the neighborhood, and comfort. I would highly recommend the place for friends or couples looking for a getaway in a fantastic part of Richmond. I would come back in a heartbeat!

    Mallory2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tasha was very responsive and a great host. Her home is beautiful and we will definitely be back on another road trip.

  • Absolutely amazing. Beautiful space. Tasha is down to earth and easy to work with. Loved everything.

    Kayla2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Location is fantastic! Tasha was easy to work with and after experiencing her home we would have loved to meet this intriguing young lady! History and great eats are within steps! Super clean and her place is very comfortable with style for days! Her place is a thoughtfully curated/styled home. We all felt comfortable and safe. Watched a movie after driving all day and shared some take out we had delivered all while we got a load of laundry done. Parked right out front with no problems. Would stay here again and would highly recommend her place.

  • Great location, beautiful apartment. Would definitely stay again!

    Natalie2017-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Tasha's place. The beds and furniture were comfy, the space was welcoming and there were cool things to look at and read. It's set in a quiet neighborhood with really good places to eat and lots of history. And it was nice to have coffee, tons of tea, and a big stocked kitchen. Parking right in front worked out every time and Tasha was easy to work with. Walk up the street to Tiny Space for fun stuff and to pet the doggies.

Welcome to Carytown! Right across the street from Richmond's iconic Byrd Theatre and sharing the block with 9 Restaurants, this second floor apartment has both charm & comfort. New kitchen, bath & furnishings, decorated with a contemporary & "earthy" flair. Carytown--Eight blocks of unique shopping and a Richmond foodie destination......only a short walk To Byrd Park, Maymont Park, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Fan District.
Built in 1919 and recently renovated (new listing this October) this gem in the heart of Carytown provides comfortable lodging for any trip to RVA. While Carytown can be quite "active", all new windows create a very quiet space inside. Brand new kitchen, bath & furnishings.
For close by dining, the hardest part in my block is which one to choose tonight....The Daily? Citizens Burger?? The New York Deli?? Copollas (Italian) Deli??. Keep on walking West (or East ) and you will pass the cuisine of many nations in our fun food scene.
  • Perfect accommodation, short or long stay. The apartment is a generous size, with a modern full size kitchen, big shower and laundry, which is great for travellers. We loved Brianna's attention to detail with bottled water, filtered coffee machine and coffee available too. Being in the middle of Carytown, everything is at your finger tips. Great cafes, restaurants, shops and super markets very close by. The apartment was and welcoming and very tastefully decorated. Will definitely stay again.

    Julie2017-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Brianna's place was really wonderful. The location is right in the middle of everything. Vintage shopping galore, good coffee and pastries, restaurants of every type, and bars that stay open late. The beds were comfortable, everything is clean and brand new. We hope to return as Richmond is a place with too many attractions for one weekend. Can't recommend highly enough!

  • First time in Richmond and we couldn't have picked a better place or location to stay! Bri was an amazing host and everything about the apartment was wonderful! You're steps away from everything you could possibly think of - tons of cute local shops and unique restaurants. Definitely see whatever is showing at the Byrd Theater (one screen, 2 shows/night and only $4) and the Sugar and Twine Coffee shop across the street is a great way to start your morning. If I'm ever back in Richmond I hope to stay here again!

Free, unrestricted parallel on-street parking on our block, quite often right out front. During the busiest evenings/weekends, there's usually a spot within a block or two at most although sometimes you may have to circle the block a couple of times--something usually comes available because the turnover is high. We love our location in Carytown with its eclectic mix of locally owned shops, restaurants, the historical and MAGNIFICENT Byrd Theatre (movie theater from the silent-movie era), coffee shops, book stores, and street entertainers. Mostly within walking distance or minutes by car or bus you'll find museums, parks, the James River and its hiking/biking trail system, historic sites, Hollywood Cemetery, VCU, The Fan, Richmond Convention Center, downtown Richmond, MCV, Brown's Island, Belle Isle, the Manchester district, Church Hill ... too many to mention. We are smack dab in the heart of the most vibrant part of the city! For food, fun and interesting things to see and do, make sure you check out our GUIDEBOOK/MAP! Carytown: Diverse! Convenient! Trendy! Funky! And! Locally owned! A wide variety of restaurants and stores. Lots of local beers and Virginia cider on tap. The Byrd Theatre! Byrd Park. Maymont & The Dooley Mansion. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The Virginia Historical Society. Virginia Society of AIA. Agecroft Hall. The Virginia House. The Fan. VCU. MCV. Richmond Convention Center. Downtown. American Civil War Center. Tredegar Iron Works. Hollywood Cemetery. + MORE ... too many to list here. Cary Street is within HALF a block right out the back door! From our house we have a view of Byrd Theatre (a Virginia Historic Landmark and also on the National Register of Historic Places). It has $4 movies 365 days of the year; what's more, every Saturday there are live performances on the Wurlitzer organ--this is a MUST see and included in the ticket price! Ray Dolby (yes, the creator of the Dolby Sound system) visited the Byrd in 2004 and was so impressed with it, he donated a Dolby Sound system (installed in 2006). Immediately behind us on Cary Street is Citizen Burger Bar that boasts beef from a local farm; they have a vegan burger option that's delicious and a menu of craft beers on tap. Sit out on the deck and enjoy Cary Street up front and center! Bev's Homemade Ice Cream is next door. The Daily on the corner of the same block is also very nice with wonderful wines, local beers, hard cider, and a delicious menu of healthy and organic food. Sugar & Twine has organic coffees, teas, sandwiches, treats, and vegan options (and free WiFi). Also, Coppola's deli (Best of Richmond) and the New York Deli (it's not really a deli, but a bar that's open 9 am till 2 am with a DJ after 10pm) are on either side of the Byrd Theatre so you won't be lacking for wonderful food and entertainment—and these are just in the block behind us. If these options aren't appealing, Carytown is about 3/4 of a mile long with tons of restaurants all up and down Cary Street—on BOTH sides of the street: Mellow Mushroom, Galaxy Diner, Mom's Siam, East Coast Provisions (excellent seafood says a guest), Amici's, Can Can, Nacho Mamma's, Home Sweet Home—WAY too many to list them all here. You may also enjoy the boutique, antique, and consignment shops in Carytown: Bygones, Mongrel, Virginia Diner (Virginia made products), Ladles & Linens, Walkabout, for ex. • Fiona was wonderful during the entire process of booking her space through airbnb. Due to some last minute flight cancellations, we had to shift our whole weekend forward one day but Fiona was still able to accommodate us. The basement apartment was awesome! They have done a great job of turning what would be a very dark and dank space into something warm and inviting. There are lots of lights and greenery everywhere. The space was very clean. The bed was comfy. The best part of the space was definitely the awesome bathroom, however. Heated floors, heated towel rack, and one of the coolest and tallest showerheads I've seen. There was also a nice kitchen downstairs that we didn't get much use of since we wanted to eat out, but would have been very helpful had we stayed longer. We also loved the fact that the space had a separate entrance so we wouldn't be disturbing anyone with our comings and goings. Fiona and her family were great hosts who offered us many suggestions of things to do. They were helpful and welcoming but not intrusive. The house is also in a great location with arguably one of the coolest neighborhoods in Richmond right in the backyard. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, and activities all within walking distance. We got around just fine without a car for the weekend. We will definitely stay again if we ever make it back!

I got to the apartment later than expected and she left lights on and a phone charger available when I mentioned I left mine behind. The apartment was extremely clean and decorated charmingly. Bathroom was an inspiration to copy in an update at my own home. The bed was VERY comfortable. The kitchen was completely stocked and had Chobani yogurt, granola, toast-butter-jams, coffee, tea, cream, milk and OJ for breakfast self-serve. With its own entrance, the apartment is completely private.

  • Fiona's home was absolutely perfect for our weekend trip to Richmond. Literally one block from restaurants and shopping, we were able to explore the Carytown area and get downtown with ease. The apartment itself is adorable and so cozy! We were super appreciative of the K-cups, milk, OJ, and yogurts available in the fridge. Fiona and her husband were both super helpful and communicative throughout the whole process. Thanks so much for sharing your space with us!

  • The apartment was as described and wonderful. Our hosts were very gracious especially when we arrived 45 minutes earlier then we had told them we would arrival time. The apartment was clean and our hosts supplied us with way more than we were expecting ... drinks, small snacks, a small breakfast. The spa bathroom was wonderful from the radiant heat from the floor to the warm towels from the heated towel rack! Our total experience was terrific! We will definitely stay here again.

  • Great basement apartment and centrally located to Carey Town and our activities during our trip to Richmond.

  • Fiona communicated with us throughout our stay and made us feel completely welcome. Her daughter walked us down after we got in late, and the place was stocked with coffee, snacks, fresh linens, and everything we needed to feel at home for the weekend. The proximity to Carytown was perfect and made our trip that much better. I cannot recommend Fiona and family highly enough.

  • This apartment is wonderful. The location is perfect! You are one block away from Cary St. and a ton of cool restaurants. Fiona and family are perfect hosts- always within reach if necessary and very attentive. The apartment space is great as well. The bed is very comfortable and all amenities are exceptional (e.g., full kitchen, rain head shower, heated bathroom floor). I can't say enough great things about this apartment!

Why is the neighborhood Lakeside called "Lakeside" when there's no lake? Took friends from out of town up there last week, had no explanation to offer when they asked, "so where's the lake?" - @heywren There is a lake -- two or three of them in fact. None are obvious from Lakeside Avenue. Which one puts the "lake" in Lakeside? The correct attribution for the namesake is the lake at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club. Lakeside is in Henrico County, not the City of Richmond -- located just north of the city line at Bryan Park, west of Interstate 95, east of Staples Mill Road and South of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Speaking of the garden, they have a fantastic library and I got help from librarian Janet Woody, who wrote to me: "Lewis Ginter named his wheel club Lakeside Wheel Club in 1895, then later built Lakeside Park on the other side of the lake. The lake was created when a creek was dammed at the site of an old mill pond. Over time, the bike trail from town to the park became known as Lakeside Avenue. The bike trail was described as 'smoothly packed cinders' and stretched from Broad Street to Hermitage Road, parallel to the Boulevard. Lakeside Park offered a café, casino, billiards, bowling alleys, fishing, waterfowl, a bear pit, and deer. At some point, golf was added to liven things up." She added "Searching the online newspaper database Chronicling America, I do not find any reference to 'Lakeside' before Ginter’s wheel club opened in 1895. In March 1895, a classified ad offered a small farm for sale near Lakeside Park. I was not able to find any other references to Lakeside Park until Ginter opened his park in 1896." Major Lewis Ginter is my favorite figure in Richmond history. There is little that you will see in post-Civil War Richmond that hasn’t been in some way influenced by Ginter or someone connected to him. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that he is the “Greatest Richmonder of All Time” and certainly my favorite historical figure in our city’s 400+ years of existence. Ginter has a long list of accomplishments and philanthropic gestures, according to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden: 25 Years and Growing by Frank L. Robinson and Lynn Kirk (available at the LGBG library): In 1884-88, acquired land for his visionary Northside suburbs, creating the neighborhoods of Bellevue Park, Sherwood Park and Ginter Park, the “Queen of the Suburbs.” In 1890 when he was in the tobacco business, Ginter and partner John F. Allen merged with four other manufacturers: W. Duke, Sons and Company; William S. Kimball and Company; Kinney Tobacco; and Goodwin and company to form the American Tobacco Company — a forerunner of today’s Philip Morris USA. In 1892, financed construction of narrow-gauge railroads in Richmond’s Northside for hauling stone from his quarries at Young’s Pond (now Bryan Park) — spurring development of the Richmond Locomotive Works. Personally financed and supervised construction of the majestic and perennial five-star Jefferson Hotel, which opened in 1895. In 1896, created Lakeside Park, which quickly became a streetcar destination for bicyclists and outdoor excursions. The area is now Jefferson-Lakeside Country Club. In 1897, Ginter’s Richmond Railway and Electric Company distinguished Richmond as the nation’s first city with an electric streetcar system. The company’s power plant was a precursor to today’s Dominion Virginia Power. Gifted land that eventually became for Richmond’s Joseph Bryan Park and also Northside’s Union Theological Seminary (celebrating 200 years in 2012), when it moved from Hampden-Sydney College. Purchased the Richmond Daily Times newspaper — which he later gave to his attorney and friend Joseph Stewart Bryan. The paper eventually became the Richmond Times-Dispatch and was the beginnings of Media General Inc.

  • We were in town visiting family, and this was the perfect little place to stay! It’s super private, extremely clean, and well appointed. We loved the keyless entry! We had been on an extended trip prior to checking in here, so we also really appreciated the washer and dryer and the chance to do some laundry before heading home. The price is AWESOME and Benjamin is a great host. We’ll definitely look to book this little gem when we come to town again. Highly recommend!

The space has a full size refrigerator and microwave and coffee maker, water boiler and a full bathroom. Not far from restaurants and breweries. Driveway parking is directly in front of the ground level entrance. The space is separated by a long hallway where we won't be able to hear each other. We enjoy listening to music. When the kids go down we usually do some yoga, read then call it a night. Message about an earlier check in if needed. Enjoy your trip. Thank You, Mike and Lisa
You will enjoy the quiet neighborhood and the central location to restaurants. Message me for an earlier check in.
Wonderful neighborhood to go on a walk. Close to Cap one, bars, restaurants, breweries, parks, downtown Richmond and Short Pump.
  • Lovely studio in a quiet neighborhood. It was perfect for my 36 hours in Richmond. Very accessible and hosts were friendly and considerate. Not alot of frills or amenities, but worked for my short stay. The bed, shower, and space were all very clean and enjoyable!

Excelente Jill, muchas gracias!!!

Annie was really communicative and flexible, and was really kind to give us the whole space to ourselves. The downstairs is really beautifully decorated, and the backyard is lovely to sit and drink coffee in the mornings. The walls are a bit thin so you will probably hear the neighbors, but not a big deal. There are a ton of amazing restaurants and bakeries nearby to enjoy, too!
