Gain a thoroughly enjoyable introduction to Kyoto’s food culture with this small-group guided tour for the city’s best eating spots. Start at the deliciously vast 400-year-old Nishiki Market, nicknamed 'Kyoto's Kitchen,' where over 130 food shops and stalls will beckon your taste buds. Stroll through the Market and learn about its history and taste the various dishes unique to Kyoto including: Tofu Skin, rice ball, fried fish cakes, Japanese Pike Conger Eel, Japanese omelet, and Sake.

Then rest your appetite by visiting a nearby shrine dedicated to the God of Education.

Then head for Pontocho Street; to arrive here, we must cross through Teramachi Street, Shijo Street, and Kiyamachi Street- all of which will enable you to immerse yourself in modern Japanese culture.
Pontocho street is very special, even for natives, because it is one out of the five Geisha districts in Kyoto. From here, you will walk across the majestic Kamo river and taste local sweets.

The final section of this tour will lead you to Gion district (which is also another Geisha area). The guide will take you out of mainstream hustle and bustle of the crowded streets and into the more photogenic and hidden soft spots. Not only will you be educated about the Geisha tradition (we call them Maiko or Geiko), you may even meet one if you're lucky.

We will finish the tour around 2 pm in the Gion area!!!
Other things to note
*Only cash is accepted at this market if you wanna buy some.
*We're sorry but you can not choose the guide.
*We have a strict policy about starting tours on time. No arrive on time, no refund.

I was born in Kobe, and I have lived in Kyoto more than six years after traveling around the world for two years. I have visited 55 countries. I love and enjoyed to see the local life in the world.
I used to work as an architecture designer, but now I work in travel agency as a Kyoto office manager because I want to give back to the traveler. I wanna show you our local lifestyle and culture. -check my Instagram @kyoto_foodink_tour. You can see some photo!
*In this tour I or my guides (Kazu, Naomi, Keiko, Akiko, Mika, Hiromi, Gummy) who love Kyoto more than me, guide you to the hidden spots!!

The tour was wonderful! We knew as English speaking tourists we could have some trouble fully communicating with local nationals and we also wanted to get the best understanding of culture while in Kyoto. This tour helped by having someone who could explain certain aspects of culture to us as well as helping us experience food we may not have tried ourselves. We enjoyed it!

Ki was an unfailing upbeat and helpful guide for navigating the Nishiki market and also a fast friend. We asked her lots of questions about life in Japan and she offered honest and insightful answers. We ate lots of delicious foods that we otherwise would not have thought to try on our own! We also started late (our fault) and she went out of her way to make sure we got the full experience.
