Qué harás

Drive through CWM Penmachno, pass the quarry to the end, meeting point on the left, oppersite chapel. Come in wellies. The reviews capture the experience, please read below as written by people's experience:
Imagine driving over a single lane mountain track to a tiny hamlet, hiking up to mine shaft hidden in a forest. The host then unlocks the rusting bars & you walk in a dark tunnel dug 160 years ago, as fresh water streams out, taking you with head torches deep under the Welsh mountains & into abandoned caverns & waterfalls. It's magic, Alice can unlock. Hearty, wet, exciting & magical.
We really enjoyed this experience. It’s a fair trek to the mine but a beautiful one through the woodlands walking up a stream... uphill! The views were amazing!! The mine itself was great and very wet. There’s one part where you climb up a waterfall/steep stream! This was lots of fun but quite challenging and exhausting. Once out the mine, there’s another steep uphill walk. Alice is lovely, very chatty! She isn’t a fountain of knowledge on the mine like her husband, but clearly very experienced walking this route! It took nearly 3 hours as no rushing, no issues waiting for group, we looked around an abandoned village. No phone network here.Highly recommend this trip, very good value for money.
Other things to note
Wellies and water proof coat needed. Bring snacks and water.

I have been exploring the slate mines of North Wales for over 10 years. There is a nice mine at CWM Penmachno, it's an interesting route through, the mountain and out the top. Just need wellies, I provide hard hats and torches. I am a qualified mental health nurse and can provide encouragement and support. I am also a member of the British Caving Association. You need to be able to manage a three mile walk and stairs. I can also give information about the local community and it's history.
My son first went through this mine at the age of 3 years and my father in law was 80 years. I am happy to take children free on this experience.

We throughly, throughly enjoyed this experience. I booked many different activities for my partners 30th for our holiday in N.Wales some much more pricey than this activity. He said this was his FAVOURITE! Mary was fantastic, answered all of our questions with enthusiasm and was just a really welcoming, warm host. I was concerned about the physicality of the actual walk but it’s perfectly fine for a variety of fitness levels, there’s no rushing and it’s very inclusive to be able to stop and catch your breath if needed. To see these mines in person will leave you in absolute awe! I echo the other reviews you DO need wellies, the walk is perfectly capable to be done in wellies. I would recommend this experience 10x over! If you get a moment to chew Mary’s ear off on the way back, you’ll also hear some other great stories about her time mountaineering all over the world! 🙂🙂🙂

Mary was fantastic, friendly and welcoming. She was very knowledgeable about the mines and it’s history. Would highly recommend the walk, it’s fun and we very much enjoyed walking through all the water (make sure you wear wellies!!) The views when you come out of the cave were absolutely stunning. We’ll be talking about this trip for a long time! Thank you Mary for the best day.

Absolutely amazing experience. Climbing up the stream inside the mine by far the best part of the tour. A little extra with going to see the village of the workers. Fantastic. Highly recommended

If you are looking to do something a bit different and you are fit and able then this trip is for you. Traverse through forest before entering an old slate mine dug out under a Welsh mountain. Don’t forget your waterproofs.
