Singapore wears a face of a modern metropolis; one that has discarded much of its past. Hidden in plain sight – in the maze of the city-state's skyscrapers or in its seemingly obscure corners, however, are buildings or sites with a past, and with more than a story to tell.
Take a virtual walk with me through some of these sights. Be it a building in the city centre, a neighbourhood, or a remote corner, you could stumble upon a unique and surprising side of Singapore, its architecture, and unexplored sides of its past, that the guidebooks never tell you about.
Each virtual tour will include a pre-recorded segment, and a live session at which you will get to hear more about the visited site, some of the secrets they may share and perhaps even the role they may have played in Singapore's fascinating past. We will also have a chance to chat about the site, and also about Singapore’s many other hidden sides.
For February 2021, the site that you will be visiting is a little corner of Singapore's Chinatown that hold quite a few little secrets.

Hello, I am Jerome and best known as the author of the award-winning blog, The Long and Winding Road, through which I capture Singapore’s past and perhaps its colourful side through words and images.
The blog is a quest to rediscover the country of my birth, which rapid development has made much less familiar. It has also taken me to Singapore’s hidden gems.
Through journeys of discovery in collaboration with various Government agencies including the National Heritage Board and the Singapore Land Authority, I have been able to bring some of these places to friends and to members of the public since 2010.

Jerome held a very personal tour through Singapore's Chinatown where we were shown around an empty hospital - a building unique to the area with lots of historic significance. It was a special opportunity to be given a tour through an, otherwise unreachable building, and hear all Jerome's knowledgable insights. Jerome knows a lot about Singapore and was able to answer all questions very thoroughly!

Had a great time with Jerome understanding more about Singapore's off the beaten track locations and architecture. Jerome has a large repertoire of such locations and his passion clearly comes through. It was wonderful knowing more about Singapore's old airport and its place in Singapore's modern history!

To see the universe in a drop of water.
At a time when we cannot travel to see the world, it was a joy to see the world in our Little Red Dot. I was just browsing Airbnb wistfully the day before when I saw the new offerings of Zoom tours and immediately signed up for this. Pure serendipity.
Jerome brought us back to the past, through the present and gave us a glimpse of the future. We went through Old Kallang Airport and learnt about the history (Amelia Earhart, Dakota Crescent and the Kallang reclamation). We were also able explore through a video buildings we otherwise would not have normally seen and then relate them to the historical photographs that Jerome curated.
It was comforting to know that the Old Airport has stood in the best of times, despite the darkest of times and will one day be revived again once this unhappy time has passed into history.
Highly recommended for those of you who like me are itching to explore new things but cannot do so because of this pandemic. This tour gives the old things we see new life and meaning.
