Join me in discovering Melbourne's neighborhood markets from a local’s perspective. Learn how the markets are unique to our city with my own personal insight, interact with the vendors I have hand-picked and taste their mouth-watering local produce. We start at centrally located Southern Cross station and depending on the day we may visit the Queen Victoria Market, the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere, or the city's oldest market, South Melbourne Market. All of these markets showcase our multi-cultural society and boast a history and importance to Melbourne's local way of life.
We will take the tram to the market, unhurriedly introducing each vendor, who explains the passion behind their food and a rare insight into their history, all with plenty of samples to match the enthusiasm. After reveling in the buzz of the markets, learning the history, we end with a drink or delicious Gelato where we will happily give you plenty of recommendations to enjoy the rest of your stay in Melbourne..(along with a full belly)
Other things to note
Depending on the market of the day a MYKI transport card may be required.
We suggest wait until the day and if required the guide will advise how to buy.
The cost isapprox $15 for a card and day pass

Some of my favourite childhood memories were of wandering the markets with my father, meeting people from all walks of life and indulging in some of the tasty treats on offer. Thirty years on, I, like most Melbournians, still visit the local markets to pick up fresh fruit and veg, a delicious snack for lunch or a locally roasted coffee. Now managing the awesome Urban Adventures team, we have built up wonderful relationships with local vendors whose food, stories and rich history we love to share with you. With us you will discover the ways the markets are leading the way for sustainability and experience the amazing sense of community that we have in Melbourne. We look forward to sharing some of our favourite foods with you and guiding you through the swathe of smells, sights and sounds of the market.

Thank you Tristan, he’s great in suggesting what to do and he is knowledgeable. I learn so much about the rich culture of south Melbourne market during this experience since I used to live in Melbourne for couple years a while ago, there’s so much interesting stories of south Melbourne market I did not know about.

This is more than just a food tour, but a tour about life. You'll delve into the history and culture of Melbourne as well as the market, vendors, and food itself. We had the pleasure of Kellie leading us on this urban "bushwalk" and it was all fantastic! She even gave us cookbook and restaurant recommendations. Highly recommend!

This was a three hour tour of the massive South Melbourne market with many food stops (Dim Sum, Polish smoked meats, speciality tea, meat pie, cannoli, nuts) finishing at a nearby pub. Met many owners and tried many things I would not have discovered on my own. Very good value and enjoyed Sonja.

My son and I had a great time on this tour. Our guide Nicole is knowledgeable and pleasant. We get to taste gelato made fresh that morning, the awesome African smoked salmon... etc. I love listening to the vendors introducing their food - the love and pride in their tone make the gourmet even tastier! Highly recommend this tour to people visiting Melbourne.
