This public experience is given in English. Private group tours in English or Spanish are available. Queer History at the Historic Center's Main Landmarks In this part, the first of the Gay History experience, you will learn about LGBT pre-Hispanic traditions before these "unspeakable sins" were punished by death by the Spanish Inquisition. You will see the Inquisition's Palace, a prison for sodomites; the Old Customs House & El Camino Real, a safe territory for gay couples centuries ago. At St. Mary of the Instruction we will learn of cloistered lesbians before visiting a street that can be called a "Drag Queens' Paradise." You will learn of homosexuality in the early 20th century next to Frida Kahlo's high school & that of "Los Contemporáneos," a group of gay scholars. We will talk about being a lesbian & a feminist in the 17th century as we visit former men-only Moneda Street, old economic hub of the Spanish empire. You will stand at the site of Latin America's first equal marriage and learn of the LGBT-driven founding of the National Human Rights Commission at its original site. All top famous buildings in the Historic District line the full way. We will guide you to many more surprising, centuries-old secrets along the way amidst old theaters, hotels & cantinas, including the beginning of 'Gay Bar Row' which you can visit in full in Part 2, booked separately.
For decades as a hobby & then as a professional activity, I have researched & shared the history of diversity that has been forgotten, left hidden or in the closet for most of its parts to help advance the fight for equality. I have earned my National Tour Guide License & also a Hosting Diploma by Walt Disney University in Florida. My curated & focused walks showcase Women's, Indigenous, LGBT, Jewish, US American & other diverse sides of history in Mexico at its relevant sites. I thrive to show our vast history, arts & traditions; from Mexico before Mexico & its founding in 1325 A.D., to date; not in a boring way but in one that I expect may amuse you. I share the stories from the diverse communities that shaped us at places where it happened. Malinche, Luis Carvajal, Sor Juana, Salvador Novo, Frida Kahlo & Robert Brady are part of it.
Entrance to some private and public locations has been agreed and is fully included.
You will be provided with an LGBT-focused map of the Historic Center so that you may continue exploring on your own.
