Qué harás

In this experience, we'll spend our time photographing local and migratory birds in the best place for bird-watching in Toronto. We'll meet at the entrance to the park, an urban wilderness with over 10km of paved trails, and diverse biological communities, just east of the downtown core. We'll stroll at a leisurely pace as we meander the tree-lined trails on the edge of Lake Ontario. We'll keep a lookout for barn swallows, warblers, flycatchers, hummingbirds, swans, terns, herons, cormorants and more, and we'll record our sightings through an app to help with science and conservation. Whether you are a birder or not, you'll enjoy the incredible nature park that is on the bird and monarch butterfly migration route. It is a prime bird-watching area in May, early June, late September and early October, but birds can be observed throughout the year. Most locals don't know about this place. Bring your camera with a lens that provides a range from wide-angle to telephoto so we can photograph insects, birds, flowers, mammals and anything in between. While our main focus is birds, we might come across beavers or muskrats. I'll share photography tips along the way.

Hi, I'm Andrea, a professional photographer of 16 years with over 6 years of experience teaching photography. I was born and raised in Toronto and have lived here my entire life (over 40 years). I love to explore the not so well known green spaces and the natural world and share it with guests and even locals. I am a lifelong nature and animal lover and am passionate about experiencing and photographing the natural world from tiny insects to monarch butterflies, birds, animals, and majestic elephants. I'm thrilled to be able to share my passion for birding and wildlife photography and hope to teach you how to photograph the natural world so you can go home with images, photography tips, and memories.

Dónde irás

We'll visit Tommy Thompson Park, an urban wilderness on the edge of Lake Ontario, but depending on interests, weather, abilities and preferred time, there are two other nature parks in Toronto that are good for bird-watching too. We'll spend 2 hours enjoying a nature walk, listening and observing as we look for songbirds, waterbirds, animals and even insects. Some of the parks have a great view of the Toronto skyline.
