A 40 year celebration of being married. It was the perfect place for us to relax and enjoy our time together. Many highlights the hot tub view the peacock and peahen dance every night... The night flyover from the herons. Martyn was a perfect host very helpful. Perfect memories thank you.

We spent 5 nights here at the end of March and start of April 2025. We were really fortunate with the weather and took full advantage of the wonderful location: scaling Slight Side and Scafell on one day, riding to Coniston via the bridleway on another and 'bagging' most of the Coniston fells on another day via Wrynose Pass. We ate in on a couple of nights and also went to the Wainwright's for some pub grub, as well as Stoves for their evening menu. Simon and Belinda's place is very well situated in Great Langdale for all kinds of walks and rides, food and decent pints. The house itself is a lovely place to return to in the evening with easy parking outside for our van and once inside, everything is spotless, well equipped and cosy. We really appreciated all the helpful information on bike routes and walking routes and spent the late evenings by the fire pouring over the Wainwright books planning the next day's adventures. 100% recommended.

We had such a lovely stay! It was well located for getting out for local walks and was wonderful to come back to at the end of the day (the hot tub and sauna were wonderful after a day hiking!). The place had everything we needed and Jane and Steve were really helpful - thank you!

Lovely few days stay, Hayley was very friendly and helpful. Cottage is stunning, much bigger than the photos show and had everything’s we needed. Beds very comfy and big en-suites in every room (although there was only 2 of us) secure garden for our two miniature dachshunds which was great. Location is very peaceful and quiet. Can recommend lunch at the Cumberland which was about a 10 minute walk away. Would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful cottage. Was perfect for us and the dogs. Fully enclosed fenced garden with a gate down to a quiet riverside walk. The hottub was huge and warm ready for our arrival. Everything we needed was available in the kitchen. We only stayed for 1 night so cannot comment on the local area as we did not do much exploring but we noticed a spar walking distance just down the road and a few cafes.

Gatecroft barn (& spa!) is a delightfully quaint little cottage in a fairly remote part of the North Pennines area. My wife and I were looking for somewhere almost off grid, from which we could walk our dog, enjoy walks together and indulge in a spot of fell running. We needed it to be not tooooo far from some kind of shops and close enough to drive if we fancied somewhere special to eat. We were also looking for somewhere with a little something else, a cherry on top. Well we found that, in spades! Garrigill is picturesque and then some. There are walks/ runs from the front door! The cottage is well equipped. The hot tub (the cherry on top!) is perfect for after the adventurous days in the great outdoors - hygiene and cleanliness of which is exemplary. The host was as helpful as you could hope for (def one of the better hosts we’ve come across!) and made some great recommendations - most of which we used and welcomed! Including a meal at Langley Castle. We’ll definitely go back… 5*

Beautiful home, very spacious and plenty of amenities. felt right at home! perfect for toddlers too. Ian was great, very helpful and easily contactable.

We had a really nice stay. The cottage was lovely and well kept with great shower facilities and little touches including a welcome pack of local produce. Sharon came to clean the hot tub each morning with the filter being changed between guests, bbq area (with large disposable BBQ to use, birds singing in a sheltered garden. Bathroom and hot tub towels provided, washing machine and tumble dryer easy to use. The beds were comfy and blackout blinds in all rooms. Beautiful surroundings; able to walk 30 minutes to an ice cream farm with play area or drive 5 minutes to Lowther castle

Lovely little house. Received advice on the way in that the house was ready and we could check in early without asking if we could. Just a 30 min drive to Scafell for the corridor and popular routes up. Great pizza place nearby and curry delivery spot on.

we had a fantastic 4 days in the cottage, everything was as described, what a lovely quiet place with fantastic views. would definitely recommend and would love to stop again.

Had a lovely stay at hilltop cottage. The cottage was beautifully decorated and we felt right at home. The bathtub was amazing, and the little touches like marshmallows for hot chocolate by the fire was a great touch.

Most enjoyable few days in this warm, cosy cottage. Lovely walks for the dogs and so many little birds! Linda very friendly and able to make recommendations for places to eat in area beyond Leadhills. Many thanks.

The cottage was lovely inside and out. Great and peaceful location. Close to everything you need. Inside is a very cosy, clean and well furnished place. All small details made our stay even better. The host was great, left a lot of information about everything (what to visit, best restaurants, pubs shops and cafes, how to recycle etc.). Moffat is a beautiful place, locals are lovely and most of the places are extremely dog-friendly. Our dog Vicky, which is normally quite anxious with new places and people, relaxed right away at the cottage and was super happy to get a treat or two from the lovely people around. Absolutely worth it!!

heel prettige cottage, goed voorzien en prima geschikt voor twee personen. hele mooie omgeving en binnen rijafstand van zowel Yorkshire dales als het Lake district. Pub met vriendelijke eigenaar in de buurt. We hebben een erg fijne vakantie gehad en hebben genoten van het contact met de Engelsen.

If you value peace, quiet, beautiful surroundings, do not hesitate to visit this place. I definitely recommend it, the house is equipped with everything you need, spotlessly clean, drinking coffee in the garden you can admire the walking deer, you really don't need anything more to relax .

Cushion Cottage is in an ideal location for exploring the Appleby area and is exactly what it says on the tin! Clean, central, equipped and comfortable. I fully recommend it.

An excellent stay! The cottage was great, well equipped and communication was excellent throughout. Loved having the swimming pool and other activities on site for the kids.

This is a fantastic place to stay - we throughly enjoyed our 4 nights. The location is incredible with beautiful walks out of the front door around the loch. The cottage itself exceeded expectations; very well equipped and lovely and warm throughout with an excellent log burner. Everything needed for a perfect stay was included, and the beds were some of the most comfortable we’ve had anywhere. We would definitely recommend staying at the Haining and would love to return.

The fact that I’m writing this review is a testament to how lovely Joan is and how much I want to support her business. It is a tragedy that our livelihoods now rely on other people’s personal opinions on the internet. However, Joan was lovely and I wish her all the best possible luck. We had a great night.

The Fairy Cottage was absolutely perfect!! Hugh met us at the door and showed us around the place, explaining how things worked. It was so neat and clean but very well decorated. Felt immediately comfortable! Speaking of comfortable, the bed was a dream!! Wish we could have spent more time there but next time we will!!

Lovely stay in a comfy and cosy house. Location was perfect for us visiting family and with it being pet friendly meant we could bring our dog too! Thank you so much 😊
