El alojamiento

My home is in the beautiful destination of Rockport, Massachusetts, only a few blocks from the charming center of town, the beach, the train to and from Boston, and bus service throughout Cape Ann to Gloucester, Lanesville, Annisquam. The house was built around 1910, so has some Victorian characteristics, but is not "stuffy." The complete house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, dining room, front & back parlors, kitchen, lovely gardens, small back yard patio. Airbnb Guests have a private bedroom & separate private bathroom on the 2nd floor. The airbnb bedroom is approximately 12' x 12' with one queen size bed, and guests have exclusive use of the 2nd floor bathroom next door to the bedroom. The guest airbnb bedroom has a fan and a window air conditioner. I can only accommodate 2 guests, and cannot accommodate children. Please know that, at the moment, you will be sharing the house with my brother Paul and his partner Dorah & myself as they are here temporarily & will be there to help you if I am not home - the airbnb bedroom and bath are not in a separate wing or section of the house. And please understand that the airbnb bed & bath are on the 2nd floor - DO NOT BOOK IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS W/ STAIRS as the bedroom & bath are on the 2nd floor - it is only 14 steps, but if you are elderly or have issues please do not book.

The garden is small but very pretty, w/ patio & outdoor grille. There is a front and back parlor separated with "pocket doors," eat-in kitchen for guests to use (no hot breakfast provided - but breakfast of cereal/muffins, coffee provided for guests to serve themselves), full dining room, full downstairs bath & full upstairs bath. Three bedrooms on 2nd floor - the largest bedroom is the airbnb guest bedroom, & contains a queen-size bed. The other two bedrooms are occupied by myself and my brother, both in our 60's - congenial yet quiet. The upstairs bathroom is your personal bath - my brother & I use the downstairs bath. You will have complete use of the house in terms of TV, kitchen, yard, etc. (The TV is downstairs in front parlor - there is no TV in the airbnb bedroom.)

I HAVE A CAT!! His name is Dewey and he is the love of my life - so NO dogs. If you have allergies, you may have a problem here, although airbnb Guests with cat allergies have stayed here, & it has not been a problem. He is never allowed in the airbnb bedroom & bathroom so those rooms should not be a problem, but he has use of the rest of the house. My primary concern always is that he doesn't ever get out as we have cat-eating coyotes & fisher cats now on Cape Ann! It's OK - they don't eat people ;) He doesn't ever try to escape - but if a door is left or blows open, he will walk out.

Downtown Rockport is just a blocks away & is one of the most charming places in New England, w/ tiny shops that line Bearskin Neck along the Harbor, some restaurants, the internationally acclaimed Shalin Liu Music Center, Motif #1 (the most photographed site), ice cream w/ an ocean view, kayak rental, dozens of art galleries, and Front Beach open to the public (an inner harbor beach - small, but lovely w/ a view of Rockport & the open ocean). Just a few miles down the road is the fishing town of Gloucester w/ the Rocky Neck Art Colony, Gloucester Stage Company, and great live music ALL over town. Gloucester is full of wonderful restaurants & is absolutely the place to go to eat.

I will email you a House Manual (which MUST be read prior to your arrival) - & there will be maps, info on things to do & see, & restaurant list compiled by myself w/ recommendations, etc., which will be in your room upon arrival - along with a hard copy of the House Manual (wifi password, etc.) I am a friendly person whose life for the past 30 years has been in the arts - primarily theatre and playwriting. I am extremely well-traveled and look forward to sharing stories

We went up from Boston to spend a night in Rockport and discover Cape Ann over the weekend... We had great fun! Lynda is a wonderful lady! She replied our queries prior to arrival super fast, gave us various useful info about the area, and even provided coffee and muffins in the morning! The house is very pretty, and our room was spacious and comfy - everything as on pics. Rockport is a tiny town on the tip of the peninsula, worth a walk! We did not try any restaurants there as Lynda suggested the ones in Gloucester are better, and fair enough we had dinner at Short & Main (oyster and pizza) and lunch at Carlo's (seafood), and both were great! Also, in Gloucester on Main street there are various Italian cafes, with REAL espresso, well -done one. Rockport - Gloucester are perfect for a quick escape from Boston, nothing was too crowded, the beaches are peaceful and the towns have pretty harbors and artist colonies to see!

Small bedroom and restroom. Well situated inmidst the village. Watch carefully the description on how to get in and out.

Lynda’s place was clean, in a good neighborhood within walking distance to downtown Rockport, and as depicted in pictures and descriptions. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at her place. However, there was a serious issue with post-reservation communication. During our stay, we had lit candles that were made available to us by the host in the guest room, and wax had leaked on to the armory that they had been sitting on. The candles were never left unattended, and the mistake was brought up promptly to Lynda, and offers for reparation/reimbursement were made up front. Instead of a productive conversation following, she repeatedly berated me for my mistake which I had already acknowledged. She continued to describe the problem with Airbnb renters of my "age range" and her prior difficulties with guests of a younger age, and described how she would never rent again to people of younger ages. Not only were her comments abrasive and discriminatory in nature, I am simply appalled that I was chewed out as if I was a toddler after bringing the issue to her attention with intentions to make amends. I concede that it was oversight on my part but she should not make candles available in her room if she desires them to not be lit (or at least instruct guests that the candles in her guest room are for decorative purposes only). With all that said, it is unfortunate this nice guest room is managed by someone capable of such derision and prejudice. Stay at your own risk of being bitterly and utterly berated (especially if you are between the ages of 25-35).

The place was exactly what I had imagined. A perfect location, easy to get around, and lovely hospitality. My weekend stay was short but I was thankful of the proximity of the train station to the house while it was raining, and the sunshine on Saturday made it worth spending the day exploring the park, beaches, and Bearskin Neck.
