Descripción

Located 50 mins drive southwest of Cody, literally at the end of the road in the sought-after Upper South Fork Valley, this magnificent 280± acre ranch is bordered by towering granite cliffs on one side and South Fork river frontage on the other. Located about 2 hours from the beautiful Yellowstone National Park.

The Flying H Ranch is located 45 minutes outside of town. The last 7 miles or so are down a well maintained dirt road. This ranch is quite isolated so if you are looking to unplug from phones, internet, and cable and truly enjoy nature this is the spot for you!

There are three homes located on the ranch. This particular home is called the Bunkhouse. It is a smaller home with two bedrooms. It has a queen in the master and a pullout sofa. The second bedroom has three twin beds. This modest home has an incredible view of the pond (see photos). Its located at the bottom of the ranch closest to the barn area. Each home on the property is spaced far enough for plenty of privacy from other guests.

Please be aware that there is no internet and very little cell phone reception. There is a house phone that you are welcome to use. This is the perfect place to unplug, relax, and enjoy God's country. There is plenty to keep you busy from horseback riding, rafting, hiking, fishing, or just relaxing on the porch looking over the valley with a good book in hand.

The private setting allows for year round, back door access to thousands of acres of designated wilderness, all part of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. Towering granite mountains, waterfalls, and canyons surround the ranch on three sides. Two miles of South Fork river frontage deliver exceptional fly-fishing opportunities for native Yellowstone cutthroat, rainbows, brook, and German brown trout. Resident elk, deer, pronghorn and bighorn sheep herds occupy the valley pastures and rolling hillsides. Big game hunting, overnight pack trips and trail riding excursions can depart from the ranch gates in multiple directions for an unmatched sporting experience.

The entrance to Yellowstone National Park is just over an hour from Cody (50 miles). You could spend days exploring the natural hot springs, geysers, waterfalls, wildlife and of course you can't leave without seeing Old Faithful.

*WE WILL CONSIDER A TWO NIGHT RENTAL IF THERE ARE ONLY TWO DAYS AVAILABLE BETWEEN OTHER RESERVATIONS.

If you are interested in renting out other properties on the ranch to accomodate larger groups please see our other homes on the property:

Cottonwood: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/10118004

I live in Arizona and will be available to help you via phone and email at anytime. We do have a ranch manager that is local in Cody. If anything arises that needs local attention he will be out to assist.

We do recommend renting a car if you intend on flying into Cody. The ranch is about 50 minutes from town and there is no public transportation that will take you out there without a pretty hefty fee. You will also want a vehicle to get you around from the recommended hiking and fishing spots as well as if you decide to venture into Yellowstone.

Things to do in the area:
Horseback Trail Rides
Pack Trips
Ice Climbing (seasonal)
Fly and Spin Fishing
Yellowstone National Park
Old Trail Town
Cody Cattle Company
River Rafting
Cody Nite Rodeo
Olive Glenn Golf Course
Buffalo Bill Historical Center
Cody Dug Up Gun Museum

While the Bunkhouse is situated in a lovely setting and it is a great place to unplug, it is not ideal for visits to Yellowstone (4 hrs round trip to East entrance) and there were some cleanliness issues. If the basic issues are resolved, I would recommend the Bunkhouse to be an ideal location for families to unplug and unwind.

Brianna was super responsive and answered any questions quickly. The drive out to the ranch is 45 minutes outside of town, but my family and I felt like the views and the space were worth the drive. It was a great opportunity to unplug for a few days. The property is spacious with beautiful views. We enjoyed our stay!

The setting of this place is spectacular and idyllic. The view from the porch looks into the Shoshone national forest and a huge mountain face lined with a crystal clear river and horse ranch alongside. Ideal for if you want to get away from it all and explore the nearby trail heads of Shoshone national forest. However it is over an hour from Cody, WY and over 2 hours from the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park, making it very difficult to use it as a jumping-off point for a Yellowstone/Cody-centric vacation. The cabin is very cute and well-appointed with everything you need to enjoy a week or more in this remote setting. We made a reservation to go horseback riding from the barn near the cabin as advertised in the listing, however when we returned home from hiking in the evening a note was left on our door that all trail rides were cancelled for the year by the forestry service, which was supremely disappointing. We did see many trail riders in the area, so the cancellation was a little strange. It is nice to be completely unplugged for a getaway but it would have been nice to have access to a landline phone because if plans get cancelled or changed, there's no way to contact anyone unless you drive about an hour to cell service near Cody. The ranch manager was very nice and knowledgable. He only came to check in on us the morning we were leaving... And gave us some great info that would have been helpful day one, such as where to fish. So we only wish they had made a point to check in on us on the day of our arrival to give us a rundown of important bits of info. Overall a beautiful place to stay for my mother and I and we very much enjoyed it.

Respuesta de Brianna:
Chelsea, We were very sorry to hear about the cancelation to your horseback riding trip. We only heard about the issue after the fact. This is not an attraction that we ourselves host. We do partner with an outfitter that is currently renting a home from us. For this reason we unfortunately have little control over his business. We have helped him rectify the confusion with the local forest service and there should be no interruption with trail rides going forward. As far as the distance from Yellowstone I apologize that you were confused on the length of time. We are 45 minutes outside of Cody and from Cody it is 50 miles (about an hour) from the Entrance. We never want to be misleading about the timing and I'm sorry that wasn't clearly communicated. The Flying H Ranch is very isolated and to us that's the charm and appeal but for a trip into Yellowstone multiple times we agree that would not be convenient. Our Bunkhouse was the only home on the property without a house phone. It was our extremely isolated home that really forced an unplugged atmosphere. Historically that was a huge appeal for our guests. After your review we have revisited that and went ahead and put a phone in that house. Our ranch manager isn’t on the property full time. He only comes out to deal with maintenance and any issues that might arise on the property as far as the homes are concerned. I'm glad he was able to give you some good information due to the fact that he has lived out here most of his life. That being said he isn’t intended to be a hospitality manager. Instead we try our best to provide you local information via the welcome email before your visit as well as in our welcome book located in the house. Thank you again for your feedback.

The cabin is in a very remote location - made us feel really connected to nature (no cell service, no internet, etc) It has fantastic views and we enjoyed the horseback riding through the mountains, searching for “gold” at the river and watching the deer right off the porch. One of the best and most spectacular nature spots I’ve ever been to!
