Manuel Antonio is CR's favorite beach destination, but that can mean being crowded along the one road to the beaches. Our house is 500 yds. off the busy road, on an acre of gardens, private but secure w/ 24/7 on-site caretakers. Anna and Andres have been with us for 15 yrs and are there for any of our guests needs at any time. The 3 bedrooms have AC and the entire house is screened with overhead fans, but you can open everything to the outdoors.

The entire house opens up to the outside decks and terraces. Sit on the front deck and use your lap top. Our private pool is perfect for cooling off and watching the wildlife overhead. A covered roof top deck puts you at eye level with an amazing variety of birds and animals. Extra security system is installed for nights and when you leave the property.

Our caretakers respect your privacy, but if you want to practice your Spanish, or cook a Tico meal with Anna she will gladly come to the house or take you to the markets in Quepos. Andres has a van and offers transportation around the area as well as airport pickups to San Jose or our local airport.

Our neighbor hood is very secure with high end homes and a couple of hotels nearby. The jungle has been allowed to grow back around our neighborhood bringing back an abundance of wildlife to our property. Recently 8 pairs of Scarlet Macaws have been introduced to our area and are seen daily, as well as Toucans and many species of parrots. A five minute walk to the main road lets you access buses and taxis, as well as many bars and restaurants within a few minutes.

If you don't have a rental car (not necessary) Andres has a van available for local rides or to the airport. You can walk 5 min. to the main road where buses come by on the 1/2hr or hail a taxi anywhere- they are cheap.

Our area is the most diverse in Costa Rica: white sand beaches and rainforests with all the amenities you could want on your vacation. Within an hour you can drive N. to Jaco or S to Dominical to check out other resorts areas- you'll be glad you chose Manuel Antonio and Casa Tropical.

Casa Tropical was a perfect choice for our family. The house sits up on a hill and everywhere you look you see lush vegetation. I enjoyed that we weren't too close to any other houses. There were other rentals and houses near us, but we didn't see anybody because of the dense jungle. We felt like we had our own private space. We did hear hammering or sawing during a few of the days. It usually sounded like just one person working. Not too disruptive. The house was much bigger than the pictures depict. Lots of different spaces (hammocks, rooftop chairs, pool..) to relax. Anna and Andres were very friendly and helpful. Anna cooked a meal the first night, which was a much welcomed treat! The kitchen had what we needed to cook meals. I would highly recommend renting a car. The hill is very steep and rocky up to the house. A walk I would not want to bother with, but you could do it. The pool was a must in the hot weather. We spent time in it everyday. Cleaned every morning. I want to share my perspective as a mama while here at Casa Tropical. I find it helpful when I know a little bit more about those comforts when traveling with our now 3 year old. They have a couple games and toys for kids. This was a nice surprise! They also had some floatation things for in the pool. They provided sand toys for when we went to the beach. Amongst all the adult books, there were several picture books that we enjoyed reading together. The bottom floor, where all the bedrooms are, stayed nice and cool for sleeping. For naps, the room stayed light and the construction noises were easy to hear. However, with the fan and our sound machine on and turning the bottom part of the bunk bed(not pictured) into a little tent, made her naps doable everyday. She was very excited to have her own room and own bed :) Our vacation was very laid back; we didn't do a lot of adventure/sight seeing things. However we did go to the Manuel Antonio National Park. That seemed like the one thing not to miss. I tell you this, because if you stay here you don't need to bother going to the park. At the house we saw troops of Capuchin monkeys, red squirrel monkeys, butterflies, iguanas (think Jurassic Park) and birds. At the park we saw some raccoons (we didn't do a tour guide). We of course still had a great time at the park for a place to hike and beaches to explore. I did extensive research on where to stay in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area. None of the places I found fit our needs, as Casa Tropical did. It was beautiful, comfortable, and just what we needed for a mid-winter getaway. I highly recommend it to families and anybody looking for a truly relaxing vacation. Thank you Steve and...

Casa Tropical was beyond all our expectations. Beautiful, peaceful and impeccably well-kept house, hidden on a tropical forest hillside... A swimming pool, two levels of verandas with hammocks, a rooftop terrace to watch the sunset, monkeys and toucans paying you occasional visits, all concur to make this place magic. Anna and Andres, who are in charge of the house and guests are very friendly and helpful, and Anna's cooking is simply delicious. If you don't rent a car, you can hop on a public bus and go easily anywhere around : Quepos, the public beach, or Manuel Antonio National Park. Andres can also come pick you up at San Jose Airport as an additional service. Our family christmas vacation was great, thanks to Steve's Casa Tropical, and I heartily recommend it to you.
