The house was well-equipped and very spacious for the four of us. In fact, we did not use the lounge, sunroom or one of the bedrooms. When we ate at “home” we used the table on the terrace which the kitchen conveniently opened onto. Th garden is also large. The local épicerie was fine for basic provisions but we went to the local supermarket for a bigger choice. We had a good meal at one of the local restaurants the local wine cooperative had some lovely wines.
The house is well located for visiting local sites and towns. Narbonne, Carcassonne, Bèziers & Perpignan are all nearby. We even ventured down to Banyul-sur-mer, near the Spanish border for the annual wine festival. The local abbey at Fontfroide is well worth a visit. Also, the coast is only 30 minutes away. Bruissan and the beach at Narbonne Plage together with the pretty village of Peyriac are also worth a visit.
The one aspect that rather spoiled the holiday was being asked to pay a €500 security deposit in cash to the caretaker. We did negotiate this down to €300 but this still took a substantial slice of our cash and worries about how much we would get back if anything. We knew a security deposit was expected but presumed this would be negotiated via Air bnb if necessary. We have since found out that Air bnb specifically state this is against their terms of business.
However, despite this we had an enjoyable holiday
