We had a great few days at Christos's place near Istron. We didn't have a car but didn't really need one (we had arranged transfers from the airport in advance - about an hour each way). We spent a couple of days relaxing by the pool with its beautiful views of the mountains and the sea, and a day at the stunning beach (just ten minutes' walk from the villa). We also got the bus one day into Agios Nikolaos (every hour from the bus stop, 100m from the villa, at the bottom of the hill - about a 20-minute journey for about two Euros each way) and spent an afternoon wandering round there, which I'd definitely recommend as it's really beautiful. There are a few little shops in Istron but they're not great for buying food; however, there are plenty of little restaurants and tavernas just a few minutes' walk along the main road from the villa. Had we been staying longer, we might have wanted more fresh food options so we could cook at the villa, but as we were only there for five nights it was absolutely fine. The villa itself is clean and pretty spacious, with an outdoor area for eating in the shade. There's air con (though not in the bedrooms) so even though the weather was sweltering, it was always nice and cool. The location is great in that it's up a little road away from the main road and you get fantastic views - especially from the fabulous salt-water swimming pool (which we often had entirely to ourselves). Check-in couldn't have been simpler: out flight landed very late on a Sunday night and so the key was simply waiting for us in the door! I'd absolutely recommend a stay at Christos's place - it was super-easy to book (and great communication from Christos), good value, and a beautiful peaceful place to hide away and recharge your batteries!
A clean and well maintained block of 6 apartments over looking the beautiful bay of Mirambelou. On the other side of the bay Agios Nikalaos sits and comes to life as the sun sets when lights switch on as does your own pool's lights where you can sit and take in view. Towels and bed linen is provided and replaced half way through week. Most cooking utensils cutlery and the important coffee machine also. Air con for when it gets too hot. Parking ok but tight for bigger cars. Beds comfy and no mosquitos which is the bane of my life. Michalis is 5mins walk from the blue flag beach of Voulisma (don't take the car parking a bit ad hoc). The water is warm (september) and calm and the most spectacular azure colour. The villa is well placed for eastern Crete. We went as far as Knossos to the west, Vai in the east and Mirtos in the south. Recommend Elounda and Kritsa. Agios Nikalaos is good for most things and typically tourist orientated. Christos and his staff are very welcoming and helpful.
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday. If you are looking for a quiet location that is still close to shops and restaurants it is perfect! The villa, grounds and pool are clean and well maintained. Cristos was very hospitable and friendly, we loved the little arrival and departure gifts! Our children are aged 11 and 12 and often had the pool to themselves. If your children need more entertainment this place would be too quiet. You can walk to the beaches but we found the two closest ones quite busy. We were happy to have a car to explore other parts of the island.
We were made to feel very welcome. The hosts were excellent and provided some drinks in the fridge, oil oil and raki as well clear instructions on how the air conditioning worked. The apartment was as expected and the pool area was fantastic. It was maintained everyday and was clean and a great place to relax. The location was great with beautiful views. And the setting up on a hillside was private and great to come back to after a day site seeing or on the beach. The washing facility was great. The town is quiet but had good restaurants and the main beach was perfect.
We arrived in a very beautiful place covered with flowers. From the swimming pool it was possible to see the the sea. Our name was on the door. Damian came every day to check the garden and if everything was right. He gave us olive oïl and raki. From villa michalis we visited ayios nicolaos (very beautiful) the minoan setlment of gournia and have a nice walk in the Kritsa canyon after which we were even able to bath in the sea. We have been very pleased to go to Christos'villa michalis. We would come back with pleasure. We recomend it . There is not enough room in the commentary to describe all that is possible and the deligth of these holidays.
