Absolutely beautiful. We felt secluded by the trees surrounding the property in the house and by the pool. We were cool enough while we slept without AC. The sounds of the local wildlife are a constant treat here. A troupe of howlers monkeys visited us on a few of the evenings. We saw a flock of parrots one evening. I could go on and on. Once you get used to driving the roads they aren't so bad. It was an easy choice to stay out of town and away from the really busy beaches. As soon as we got tired of the other people it was only about 15 or 20 minutes drive to get back to the house. We had such an awesome time and we would definitely stay here again.

If you are looking for a secluded home in a tropical paradise, look no further than Casa Cashew. Renting a car with four-wheel drive is a must, as it is a short drive away from several wonderful beach towns. The house itself provides an outside hot water shower, a private pool, and access to the wonderful local wildlife. The communication and assistance in getting to Casa Cashew was fantastically accommodating as the hosts and their neighbors went above and beyond in making sure we were happy and comfortable. Highly recommend!

Thanks for the great review Sean, and also your feedback here. Yes, it is always a delicate balancing act for me with regard to the experience and environment I am offering at the casita. I fell in love with Costa Rica 25 years ago, and originally built myself a true jungle getaway deep in the Osa Peninsula -- off grid, off the beaten path, full-on jungle, fantastic, raw, awe-inspiring nature all around. And HUGE spiders, and snakes, and big eagles, and big cats! Casa Cashew is suburban by comparison -- but that is from my perspective, which clearly is not the same as the typical vacationer. I have tried to be sensitive to this, and to make the casita a comfortable if not gilded cage from which to see at least some of Costa Rica's incredible biodiversity. I have found that most folks, even if initially overwhelmed by the proximity (and size) of the critters, eventually are enchanted by the experience. There really is nothing like it on tv or the internet. Thanks again for staying with us. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Pura vida, Bruce

My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights. This house has everything that a couple takes to vacation: privacy, tranquility, own swimming pool, kitchenware, amenities, etc. There is no air conditioning, but do not worry, they really are not necessary because the house is open and the air flows naturally and it has ceiling fans. At night, you sleep with all the sounds that nature can give you: wind, trees, monkeys, birds ... it's really incredible! Every day you wake up watching the sea. (Which is about 10 minutes by car) My recommendation is to ride an ATV and bring it to the house. When you want to go to the beach (Santa Teresa, Montezuma, MalPais, Cabuya, etc) you only drive in the middle of the paths that are pure adventure. In the afternoons or evenings, you return to the house and the water in the pool has the ideal temperature ... you will spend a lot of time there !! Bruce and George are excellent hosts and will be attentive to your needs. Eli and Meylin (staff service) are amazing people. The only problem Cashew House has is how difficult it is to leave it the day you return

My boyfriend and I really enjoy our stay to Bruce's casa! The place is absolutely nice and really private! The sunsets are spectacular and the private pool is a life saver after a long day at the beach. We recommend it to anyone who visits Malpais/Santa Teresa! Pura Vida

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 8 days, and it was pure magic. The casita and the view look even better in person; it was truly breathtaking. The property is almost entirely surrounded by lush vegetation, and the live banana, plantain and lime trees on the property were really cool as well. The pool was a dream to cool off on those hot days, can't express how much we enjoyed that amenity. Bruce has added screen doors which were huge in keeping out any bugs, and the 2 ceiling fans were more than enough to keep us cool at night (we stayed in late feb). The property is also located next to an organic farm that supplies a lot of the restaurants with fresh fruits and veggies, and Georges will drop off a bunch to you for a small fee. We rented ATVs, which is recommended since the roads in Mal Pais/Santa Teresa are generally horrible wherever you go. Its mostly dirt roads around the entire area, so bring a bandana to cover your face or ask for a full face helmet at the ATV rental. It's about a 12 minute drive from the casita to the beginning of town in Mal Pais. If your looking to be a bit more secluded (like we were), it's perfect. The fact that the entire community and farm is gated also provides a nice element of safety as well. However if you're looking for something super centrally located to town then it might be worth finding something closer. All in all we were driving back and forth a few times a day and it wasn't that bad. Stay here.

We had a wonderful time during our two week stay in the Casa Cashew. It was perfect. We enjoyed the abundance of plants and the privacy they provided. This place is truly magical. There was an array of wildlife right outside your door, which we loved. We got to see creatures we have never seen before. The pool is a life saver and the attached deck really lets you soak up the sun. The outdoor shower is extremely handy and a great place to wash the sand off your body while watching the sun go down. George was extremely accommodating. He was available and quick to respond whenever we needed anything. I highly recommend staying here if you ever get the chance.

Bruce's home is a lovely getaway. It's in a great location - close to the beautiful beaches of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa but situated a few minutes out of town for privacy. Also, it's situated on property that shares an organic farm, so we had fresh vegetables delivered for dinner one night. Great place!
