Historic Grade II Listed 18th century farmhouse with spectacular views, gorgeous interiors and lashings of homely Danish Hygge perched above picturesque Hebden Bridge – Best Small Market Town in the Great British High Street Awards 2016.

Proud finalist in Welcome to Yorkshire's White Rose Awards, Elmet Farmhouse has bags of character with its stone mullion windows and carved stone fireplaces. Beautifully decorated, the farmhouse is comfortable and spacious with a delightful atmosphere. If it's design inspiration or homely Hygge you're seeking, Elmet Farmhouse is the place for you! Mixing Scandi-Modern furniture with vintage textiles and stunning lamps and wallpapers by local designer Hannah Nunn, Elmet Farmhouse is championed by Sawday's Special Places to Stay, where you can read lots more glowing reviews.

Perched on a hill surrounded by hay meadows in the village of Pecket Well, Elmet Farmhouse has magnificent views overlooking the steep wooded valley of Hardcastle Crags (National Trust) and the ancient village of Heptonstall. A spectacular corner of the Yorkshire Dales, this is the landscape that inspired the Bronte sisters at nearby Haworth and local poet Ted Hughes. In fact, the view from Elmet Farmhouse is so inspiring that it appears on the cover of Hughes’s book Remains of Elmet.

A handsome Grade II Listed yeoman clothier's house dating from 1728, Elmet Farmhouse has been decorated and ‘curated’ in a unique way by design historian Lesley Jackson. Combining historic features with modern design, this is a holiday cottage like no other. Each room is a delight.

Curl up on the cosy Danish sofa in front of the woodburner and read Wuthering Heights. Have fun playing Bagatelle and vintage games. Dine in style in the roomy farmhouse kitchen, which is fantastically well-equipped and has lovely vintage crockery.

Upstairs are three spacious airy bedrooms (1 double and 2 twins), each individually decorated, and two attractive bathrooms. The master bedroom is romantic, with a floral wallpaper frieze and window seat overlooking the garden. The attic bedroom has a multicoloured chest of drawers and lanterns hanging from the beams.

Outside is a pretty cottage garden where you can dine en plein air and enjoy the amazing panorama. The fields are full of buttercups and there are owls, kestrels, deer, rabbits and pheasants galore!

Delve into the dales and explore the fantastic local countryside. We provide maps and walks leaflets. Enjoy award-winning ale and home-cooked food at the Robin Hood Inn just down the road, or take afternoon tea over in Heptonstall. Shop til you drop in Hebden Bridge, renowned for its quirky independent shops, friendly cafes and relaxed creative vibe.

We promise you a warm Yorkshire welcome with refreshments on arrival. Everyone loves Elmet – here are a few comments from our recent guests:

‘Had the most wonderful stay at Elmet Farmhouse! Felt so welcomed and truly relaxed in this beautiful home. We can’t thank Lesley enough and will be sure to come back again.’ (Mark and Helen, Sheffield, January 2017)

‘We’ve had a lovely stay at Elmet and are already planning our next trip up! What a fabulous location and cosy house. It was lovely being here with the snow settled – felt like the north pole. ‘Total pleasure to stay here; such attention to detail that we were warm, intrigued, equipped, comfortable and well-informed about things to do. It’s not often you stay in a house whose design has been curated by an expert in the field of mid 20th-century decor, and it really showed. Our children absolutely loved the bagatelle! Bravo!’ (Bruno, Emily, Jasper, Lydia, Daniel and Ivo, Oxford, October 2016)

‘This has been such an enjoyable two weeks for so many reasons. Hebden Bridge is a terrific little town. All the people, including the local independent shopkeepers, were so helpful. And then there has been the calm and restorative luxury of Elmet. A magnificent country cottage with uplifting views every moment in every passing phase of weather. Everything was perfect!‘ (Keith and Debby, Melbourne, Australia, September-October 2016)

‘So glad I found your place – one of the best holidays of my life. Thank you for the opportunity to stay here. It has been wonderful. All the things I most enjoy – poetry, design, modern furniture – and the backdrop of the scenery. A wonderful view with a wonderful house attached. .’ (Kathleen and Richard, West Yorkshire, August 2016)

‘We have enjoyed a great week here. Your house and the design of it is a pleasure to spend a holiday week in. Just being welcomed with scones was the first happy little moment. We will surely recommend our Danish friends and families to visit the “Danish House” outside Hebden Bridge.’ (Inge, Laura, Asta, Agnes and Per, Denmark, July 2016)

‘What a magnificent place to stay. A glorious part of the country in a glorious house. Everything is “just right”. I’ve never stayed in somewhere where everything has been thought of. It makes “holidaying” so much more pleasurable. The views are magnificent, so much so that I found myself simply staring across the valley to Stoodley Pike and Heptonstall church on numerous occasions.’ (Alastair, Beverley and Gregory, Wendover, Buckinghamshire, July 2016)

‘Lesley made us feel extremely welcome. There were delightful fresh scones for us on arrival and the house was immaculately presented. The property itself was full of beautiful furniture. A lovingly curated selection of interior classics! .’ (Clarissa, Jake, Reuben and Samuel, Edinburgh, July 2016)

'We've had an amazing weekend with long walks through the valley, bluebell meadows, waterfalls and lush green forest to Hebden Bridge. And today we walked across the fields and moors to Haworth. Lesley was a brilliant host. Her property is stunning and the amazing views of the valley greet you in the living room and master bedroom. It's very spacious, 6 adults can stay very comfortably. She has decorated the place beautifully and also provided very thoughtful items such as walking sticks, plimsoles to wear in the house, and lots of kitchen equipment which all proved really helpful in making us feel at home. There are great walks minutes away, or a short drive by car so we were happy with the location. Thanks Lesley for a wonderful stay and the homemade scones!

Thanks Roma, I really appreciate your comments. Renovating the farmhouse was a labour of love. I really enjoyed decorating it and kitting it out so that guests would feel happy and comfortable. It makes it all worthwhile to get such great feedback. I'm really glad you enjoyed visiting this hidden corner of Yorkshire. It's a really beautiful part of the world and deserves to be better known. It gives me a real thrill to introduce people to it. The view has a real wow factor. We never get tired of it and it changes all the time with the seasons and the light on the hills.

Lesley made us feel extremely welcome before we'd even arrived. There were delightful fresh scones for us on arrival and the house was immaculately presented. The property itself was full of beautiful and thoughtful furniture and had everything we could possibly have needed. We have two children who were delighted with the twin room and who didn't want to leave the house! Lesley's love for the surrounding area is passed on through very informative walking guides and books which I wish we had more time to explore. Lovely memories made here.

Thanks for your lovely comments Jake. I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed staying in the farmhouse. It's great to get such positive feedback, much appreciated. Thanks for the suggestion about the lighting in the kitchen. I'll get another of those nice Hannah Nunn lamps and install it in the kitchen to make it more atmospheric as the evening draws on.

I'm a writer, curator and design historian. If you like vintage or retro design, you may have seen some of my books on textiles, furniture and glass.

Elmet Farmhouse is a handsome 18th century Grade II Listed building next door to my home. As well as renovating the farmhouse, I decorated the interiors. The combination of historic features, such as stone mullion windows, and modern design classics, such as Scandinavian furniture and vintage textiles, makes the house really special. Beautiful lamps and wallpapers by local designer Hannah Nunn provide the icing on the cake!

I'm also a keen walker, so if you want on tips on where to go hiking, I'm happy to help.
