Perched on a hill surrounded by hay meadows in the village of Pecket Well, Elmet Farmhouse has magnificent views overlooking the steep wooded valley of Hardcastle Crags (National Trust) and the ancient village of Heptonstall. A spectacular corner of the Yorkshire Dales, this is the landscape that inspired the Bronte sisters at nearby Haworth and local poet Ted Hughes. In fact, the view from Elmet Farmhouse is so inspiring that it appears on the cover of Hughes’s book Remains of Elmet.
A handsome Grade II Listed yeoman clothier's house dating from 1728, Elmet Farmhouse has been decorated and ‘curated’ in a unique way by design historian Lesley Jackson. Combining historic features with modern design, this is a holiday cottage like no other. Each room is a delight.
Curl up on the cosy Danish sofa in front of the woodburner and read Wuthering Heights. Have fun playing Bagatelle and vintage games. Dine in style in the roomy farmhouse kitchen, which is fantastically well-equipped and has lovely vintage crockery.
Upstairs are three spacious airy bedrooms (1 double and 2 twins), each individually decorated, and two attractive bathrooms. ‘Total pleasure to stay here; such attention to detail that we were warm, intrigued, equipped, comfortable and well-informed about things to do. It’s not often you stay in a house whose design has been curated by an expert in the field of mid 20th-century decor, and it really showed. Our children absolutely loved the bagatelle! Bravo!’ (Bruno, Emily, Jasper, Lydia, Daniel and Ivo, Oxford, October 2016)
‘This has been such an enjoyable two weeks for so many reasons. Hebden Bridge is a terrific little town. All the people, including the local independent shopkeepers, were so helpful. And then there has been the calm and restorative luxury of Elmet. A magnificent country cottage with uplifting views every moment in every passing phase of weather. Everything was perfect!‘ (Keith and Debby, Melbourne, Australia, September-October 2016)

A wonderful view with a wonderful house attached. .’ (Kathleen and Richard, West Yorkshire, August 2016)
‘We have enjoyed a great week here. Your house and the design of it is a pleasure to spend a holiday week in. Just being welcomed with scones was the first happy little moment. ‘What a magnificent place to stay. A glorious part of the country in a glorious house. Everything is “just right”. I’ve never stayed in somewhere where everything has been thought of. It makes “holidaying” so much more pleasurable. The views are magnificent, so much so that I found myself simply staring across the valley to Stoodley Pike and Heptonstall church on numerous occasions.’ (Alastair, Beverley and Gregory, Wendover, Buckinghamshire, July 2016)

Elmet Farmhouse is a handsome 18th century Grade II Listed building next door to my home. As well as renovating the farmhouse, I decorated the interiors. The combination of historic features, such as stone mullion windows, and modern design classics, such as Scandinavian furniture and vintage textiles, makes the house really special. Beautiful lamps and wallpapers by local designer Hannah Nunn provide the icing on the cake!
I'm also a keen walker, so if you want on tips on where to go hiking, I'm happy to help.
