Set amongst the rain forest surrounded by lush growth with an unparalleled view of the Pacific ocean out over the lagoon. Lounge on the expansive deck and listen to the bird life, check out the waves or just enjoy the peacefulness. This is the place to go if you are looking for something a little bit different to the usual resort-type holiday, away from the crowds. I named the house Captain's Retreat because that is exactly what it is, a wonderful retreat from the busy lives we all lead.
Lounge on the expansive deck and listen to the bird life, check out the waves and enjoy the peace and tranquility that this beautiful place offers. The property is off the beaten track but well worth the bit of extra effort needed to get there.

Atención a los huéspedes
Watson our Fijian care taker of the property is available 24/7 for all guest needs/requirements. At an extra cost, he has a reliable 4wd drive for guest activities, and transfers to and from the airport, if required. He is available to meet guests, take them to the house and ensure they are comfortably settled in. Watson will be your point of contact during your stay if you have any issues that need attending to. He is a local with extensive knowledge of the area and you will find him very friendly and helpful. My co-host, Glenis, will answer any queries you may have before your trip. Our aim is to make your stay as hassle-free as possible.
Otros aspectos destacables
The property does not have direct access to the beach as it is high on a hill. However there are many Resorts within a half hour drive where the beach can be accessed, as you will read in the reviews. There is no wifi at the house but an excellent signal, so pick up a SIM card at the airport (cheap) and you're good to go. We recommend arriving in Fiji during the day so you have adequate time to shop for supplies and make your way along the beautiful Coral Coast to the house. Captain's Retreat is a 2 hour drive from Nadi Airport.
Guests to be respectful of the house.
Keep in mind the house is on tank water.
Because Captains Retreat is in a beautiful, scenic, secluded area of Fiji it
means that there is no 'town supply' of water. There are 3 x 25001t
water tanks located underneath the house. These 3 tanks collect the
tropical rain that lands on top of the roof and is then disbursed
throughout the house via a small water pump located next to the tanks.
This is by NO MEANS AN UNLIMITED SUPPLY OF WATER. Please manage your water consumption very closely via the water tank level gauge in the kitchen.
Some of the biggest consumers are the toilet and washing machine.
Some key points to maintain:
- Only flush toilet for numbers 2's
- Keep shower times to a minimum
- Do not leave the water running from the tap when brushing
- When tanks are really low, reduce washing machine use
Because the water is rain, it is safe to drink. I suggest putting it through
the water filter on the kitchen bench as this filters any solids out of it
and also cools it so it is delicious and refreshing.
We have a few rules when it comes to rubbish management. The house
is in a very picturesque, secluded location so we all need to ensure the
rubbish is dealt with efficiently so that there is no pollution, smell and
that your living area stays clean and healthy.
Place all food waste into the bin labelled 'Food Waste Only'' At
the end of the day empty food slops over the West-facing
balcony deep into the bush. The food waste will slowly
biodegrade. Ensure there is no other waste in amongst the
food as we do not want to pollute our beautiful rain forest i.e.
plastic, tin cans, beer bottles etc. Give the bin a good soapy
clean and it is ready to use again the next day.
All other waste to be rinsed and cleaned (so no smell) and
placed into the bin labelled 'General waste'. This can be tied
up into black rubbish bags and taken in the car to facilities in
town. I normally take it to services stations (for small amounts)
or there is a rubbish tip on the way to Suva. lf you are only staying
for a short period of time then just accumulate it on the front
door step and our Care taker will take it at the end of your
lf you like you can rinse all alcohol bottles, place them back in
the box they came in and leave them on the front door step so
our Caretaker can recycle them.
