Descripción

El alojamiento

Windsor Hill Wood is a working woodland. We coppice, fell and plant trees. We keep all sorts of livestock: pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, bees. We have a large polytunnel and many raised beds. There are two shepherds huts and a cabin outside, and a large light room in the house with en-suite bathroom.

Servicios y zonas comunes

We have a large Garden Room in the house where we serve breakfast. There is a bathroom in the house with loo / shower / bath or else there are two stunning compost loos outside, one near the huts and one near the pond. We have an outside cob oven / BBQ area which guests are welcome to use, with an outside table. There's a Christian chapel, a Buddhist meditation space, a treehouse, pond etc.

Atención a los huéspedes

We won't be on call day and night, but we are invariably on-site if there is any need.

El barrio

The Mendips are a beautiful part of Somerset. The towns of Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury and Wells are all close. There are many footpaths directly from our site in all directions. Wookey Hole is nearby, as are Cheddar Gorge, and various walks, caves, climbs, pubs etc.

Cómo moverse

The nearest railways station is Castle Cary. There are coaches / buses to Shepton Mallet. There are footpaths in all directions. The nearest airport is Bristol.

Otros aspectos destacables

This is a rustic site, so don't be surprised if it's muddy or wet. The wi-fi often reaches the outside accommodation but not always. There's always wi-fi in the Garden Room. Since the hut is heated by a woodburner, you'll have to be able to light a fire.

Normas de la casa
Horario de llegada: de las 15:00 a las 21:00.

People can smoke anywhere outside, but not inside. Pets aren't usually a problem, but because of livestock here it depends what they're like around chickens, lambs etc. Guests can light a bonfire in designated areas if they're responsible.

This is a brilliant place for anyone looking for a quiet, simple stay in nature. Tobias and his family were very welcoming and generous with their home.

A very different kind of place, and all the better for it. Tranquil and comfortable. I highly recommend it. I didn't stay as long as I would have liked.

Tobias, Francasca, and their children were charming hosts. My lovely hut was as described and very comfortable so I didn't even need to light the wee stove. Breakfast makings and tea were ready for me in the dining area each morning. The woodland around is delightful and you stumble on little dwellings and copses which is lovely. The chapel resembles a womb like pumpkin and is equipped with prayer books on straw bales. When I arrived there was a birthday cuppa and tart with some of the volunteers and they were all very friendly. I would recommend this venue to one and all - idyllic, wished I had taken my little craft bag to sit and work on in perfect tranquility. Beautiful place, lovely hosts, magical tranquility what more could you want. Thank you so much I will be back .

Tobias and Francesca have the most incredible home and I was welcomed very warmly on arrival. Off the beaten track but easy to find with the directions provided. The actual setting is so beautiful and idyllic, and it provided the perfect setting for my escape to write. The children were charming and great fun, but not intrusive. The hut I stayed in was warm and cosy and well maintained. Clean and comfortable. I slept like a log!! I used the indoor toilet and bathroom which were clean and well looked after. Lovely hot powerful shower. The communal room is wonderful with plenty of books and a huge oak dining table you can work at with wifi if you need it. There are super animals there including an adorable cat who I fell in love with. Breakfast was simple but exactly what I needed. And plenty of tea available through the day and a fridge to store food. You can cook using the outdoor oven etc but I stuck to raw salads. You are very close to Shepton Mallet to buy provisions if you need to , and Glastonbury is a 20nminute drive. I would recommend this experience to anyone that wants to escape and enjoy simplicity. I loved my visit and will go back at the drop of a hat.

Spot on description as i was indeed in a private hut surrounded by woodland on this pleasant small holding. I caught the bus into Shepton Mallet and walked from the town, which was relatively easy, so do not let this put you off as otherwise you'll be missing out on a great location while paying two to three times as much to stay in a soulless hotel room! Breakfast was cereal and toast with choices to cater for most and obviously the main bathroom was shared, but this is only 50 yards away and caused no disruption. I was made to feel very welcome and even left with a most excellent additional purchase of some of the produce from the small holding, sausage and bacon from last years pigs and some rhubarb and fresh salad.
