We wanted to extend our cruise and inland Alaskan tour in a location that would afford us a home base for travels back up to Denali (if we wanted) and other out-of-the-way places, and not be too far away from Anchorage for our flight home. When we found this little cabin, it seemed to fit our needs perfectly, and we were very happy when it was available for the four nights we wanted. Finding the cabin was simple. Only a few miles and a couple turns off the main highway. But when we got there, we found our expectations were exceeded. Fresh flowers were planted in boxes or overflowing from hanging planters on the deck. Kathryn was there to greet us with a smile and make us feel welcome, and was full of ideas for local outings, tips for shopping, and filling us in on other details about the property that we were free to use, like the fire pit by Neklason Lake just behind the property, and the canoe or kayaks available to take out on the lake if we wanted. The property is simply beautiful. The cabin deck overlooks Cornelius lake to the east and features a picnic table, a gas grill, and two chairs with a small side table -- perfect for sipping your favorite beverage and waiting for the endless sunset. The cabin itself is well-appointed, with several modern conveniences (plus the much-appreciated compact washer & dryer). Although we only barely used it, there is cable and WiFi and flat screen TV. The kitchen has been remodeled and is stocked with all the basics and a few extras. Kathryn also left us a jar of her incredibly delicious rhubarb-berry jam (four thumbs up!). Also, the tap water is excellent. From the cabin, we drove out the jaw-droppingly beautiful Glenn Highway to the Matanuska Glacier (worth seeing!), about a two-hour drive to the east. Hatcher Pass was another stunning drive, up to the historic Independence Mine in the Talkeetna Range. Colorful hang-gliders were dotting the air above us, and views of the Chagash Range to the south were gorgeous. The drive up along the Little Susitna River was incredibly scenic. Another day trip was up to Talkeetna, about half way to Denali Nat'l Park, which on a sunny Saturday was chock full of tourists and ATV enthusiasts, but still worth seeing. If you go, do visit the old Train Depot museum! Our last full day we decided to kick back and really ENJOY the cabin itself, and no regrets! A big brunch, some reading, some Photoshop of all the pictures we'd taken, and a dinner of grilled sockeye salmon made for a perfect day. Would we stay again? Absolutely. Would we recommend it to others? What are you waiting for? Book it now! A hearty thank you to Kathryn for her warm hospitality and helpfulness.

I am a retired teacher, working part-time in a local elementary school. My husband is a general contractor and builds homes locally. We have each lived in Alaska for more than 34 years. We love living here and we love our lives.
My husband and I bought this amazing property 11 years ago and built our lovely home and remodeled this original 1958 homestead cabin that was here. This property faces 2 different lakes. The cabin faces one lake, and our home is around the corner ( out of sight) and faces another lake.
During the school year ( Aug. 6 through June 6) we rent this cabin to a teacher. We have been hosting and renting this cabin to summer visitors for the past 5 years. We have enjoyed meeting new people who come here and want to explore Alaska. We have lots of information to share about what to do and where to go during our guests' vacations. On our lake, we have a fire pit and lake equipment that we are happy to share with our guests, upon request
We are casual and flexible hosts. Let us know how we can be of assistance.
We like to travel to warmer places for a short vacation in the winter. This past holiday season we vacationed with our two grown sons in Maui for 2 weeks. We like to play pinochle, read, hike, bike, fish, watch the lake birds, and watch old movies.
