It is a real genuine INAKA(countryside) of Japan. No tourists around. It is a hometown of my parents. The house is what my father imported from the US and was remodeled in 2010 adding some Japanese facilities in kitchen and bath.

・A convenient store, Seico Mart, is very close. 3 min walk. A Seven-Eleven is 2km away.
・Some super markets and restaurants are in the center of Hitachi-ota City. 5-10 min drive.

(Sightseeing Spots)
・Hitachi Seaside Park(国営ひたち海浜公園) (20km). A huge park with marvelous flower gardens, amusement areas, rental bikes etc.
・Ryujin-Ootsurihashi(竜神大吊橋)(21km) A large suspension bridge and a spot for the highest bungee jump in Japan.
・Fukuroda Falls(袋田の滝)(38km) One of Japan’s three most beautiful falls.
・Mito City(水戸市)(20km). Ibaraki’s capital, a home for the most popular Japanese food Natto! (though many foreigners find it hard to eat). Mito domain was one of the three family branches of Tokugawa house which ruled Japan during Edo period from 17th to 19th century. You can enjoy visiting historical sites like Kairakuen(偕楽園)and Kodokan(弘道館)in this city.
・Kairakuen(偕楽園)(21km). One of the tree greatest gardens of Japan(日本三名園の一つ), famous for magnificent plum trees which bloom in February and March attracting hundreds of thousands of people. Kobuntei(好文亭) in the park is a well-maintained Japanese traditional architecture from 19th century during Tokugawa era.
Lake Senbako(千波湖)beside Kairakuen has beautiful Sakura tress along the shore.
・Kodokan(弘道館)(19km). Mito domain’s han-school, an educational institution for children of daimyo (feudal lords) from 19th century.

(What to Eat)
・Hitachiota City is famous for good Soba-noodle. Our recommendations are Satake(佐竹)(800m),Koshiji(そば処越路)(4km), Shio-machi-kan(塩町館)(5km). Other places on average all serve good soba. Soba places are usually open only for lunch with a very few exceptions.
・Nakaminato Harbor(那珂湊)(27km) A fishing harbor with lots of sushi-go-round(回転寿司)restaurants which serve amazing sushi at a very reasonable price. Restaurant Ichiba-sushi(市場寿し)is great. Go in the morning or early in the afternoon.
・Kiuchi Brewery(木内酒造)(9km). Enjoy Ibaraki’s local beer and plum wine.(

You will probably need a car to come and get around.

By Car: It takes less than 2 hours from Tokyo using Joban Highway(常磐自動車道). Up to 4 cars can be parked in the front yard.

By Train: 2km from the nearest train stop, Kawai station of JR Suigun Line(JR水郡線河合駅). No bus or taxi available there. (You can go pass Kamikawai Station and get off at the last stop, Hitachiota Station and take taxi from there. But it will be very inconvenient to stay there without a car)
1 bike available.

Host is very kind and full of attention. We arrived early so that to put rhe heat on as advised. The house warmed up quite fast. We were not cold. The house is big and beautiful. There are some toys for kids to play and books which was very cool for our son. The house is well located between Mito and Daigo. You need a car to go to restaurant and convenient stores. Views from the house are beautiful. The house is close to a road but we had no noise problem at all. However for summer play in the garden with kids might be complicated as it is an american style house and the garder is not closed in the front. We had a great stay. House well equiped as described.

We arrived at the property a little late in the evening mainly due to traffic out of Tokyo. It was a beautiful house and the fact that it stood out from the neighbors helped us a great deal in finding it at night. It's a very modern place and easily accommodate our family of 6. The kids loved the property, there was space for them to find their own personal space to read or just to watch the sun rise. Its a great place and central enough for us to drive to visit in Ibaraki. We will certainly come back to stay. The host, Shigeharu-san was very approachable and very quick to response.

Shigeharu's house was one of the most wonderful things about our recent visit to Japan. It was spacious, comfortable, well-furnished and quiet, and it started to feel like home from the first day. Shigeharu kept in great email contact with us and was genuinely concerned that we enjoy our stay. The reverse-cycle air-conditioners were more than adequate to warm the house mid-winter, and the washer and American dryer kept our clothes fresh, while we ourselves enjoyed a wonderful shower (so much better than we have in Australia). Once we'd figured out the stove, we were able to prepare meals, although we never did quite determine which buttons to push on the microwave. No problem. There are plenty of places to eat within easy driving distance. The house itself is beautifully constructed with hard wood floors and wood paneling. There are beautifully flowering trees (still in flower in winter), and I expect that the grounds are quite stunning in spring. The neighbourhood is partly agricultural. There are a couple interesting shrines within walking distance. Visitors will need a car to do any substantial shopping or to get to interesting sights around Ibaraki Prefecture. The house's garage provides at least one parking space, and there would be a couple more spaces in the driveway. I would suggest making careful notes on the house's location so as not to wander about, as we did trying to return our first night. Our rental car's GPS only spoke Japanese, so we couldn't program in the location. However, by the second day we were exploring and getting back home, no problem. We truly came to regard Shigeharu's house as our "home" in Japan, and we were genuinely sorry to leave. We hope to travel back at least once a year, and we will definitely want to stay here again, perhaps for a longer time. In posting such a positive review, we run the risk that the house may not be available when we would like to return, but I think it's only right to grant praise when it is so greatly deserved.

We are a family of five who stayed here very comfortably. Big ,spacey and clean. We felt right at home. My kids enjoyed the piano room and back yard. Very gracious host, who provided extra space heaters, but we didn't even need it. Quiet neighborhood with a less than 20 minutes drive to good shops and restaurants.
