Large deck with private entrance and mountain view. Paddling, biking, hiking, & waterfalls within 10 miles! Our cabin is great for friend groups, couples, grad students, and families over 18. Please read all information before booking! Thanks & Welcome!

Our owner-built, two level, cedar, cabin-in-the-woods rents the entire, private lower level. Knotty pine wraps the inner walls of the cabin giving it a warm, cozy ambiance and carpeted rooms with comfy beds and ensuite baths make the beginning and end of your day of adventure rewarding.

Each bedroom has an exit to the large, private deck with partially covered areas for eating, lounging and relaxing and rocking.

The cozy common area has cable T.V. with dvd/vhs & movies, full-size futon, small dining table, counter with toaster oven, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee-maker & electric kettle. Basic dishes, utensils & tools are provided. (*see list of amenities*).

The Blue Room, so named for the color of the sky-blue walls, has a queen bed with cable TV and dvd player. Books, magazines, and newspapers sit on the shelf next to a comfy rocking chair with pillow, blanket & side table for having a cuppa and perusing the paper. A small desk with vanity mirror houses a radio/cd player with auxiliary jack for playing your personal playlists/podcasts on your phone/device.

The soothing green walls of the green room display plant prints and dentistry abstracts (an homage to Stephan's parents, a master gardner and a dentist). A queen bed, sound machine, cedar chest, luggage stand, large rocking and lounging chairs, a chest of drawers, a closet with hangers and TV/dvd/vhs and radio round out the Green room's amenities.

The lower level guest entrance is reached by a set of broad, rustic, low-angle steps (with no hand railing), that turn onto the large deck with seating areas, rocking chairs, outdoor dining table and a deck hose and drying rack for rinsing and drying outdoor gear.

Known for the diversity of flora, the Southern Appalachians are our backyard... literally! Hundreds of native plant species grow here and we regularly see wild turkey, deer, grouse, song birds, hawks & hummingbirds. Rafting, biking, hiking, zipping, lakes, waterfalls & incredible views are all within 15 miles of our home! Please see our Airbnb guidebook for detailed recommendations. Welcome!

All amenities listed are used by guests only, nothing is shared!

Guests have access to the private lower level of the cabin & free parking next to the cabin. Two bedrooms with queen beds, two en suite bathrooms, central common area with cable TV, futon/couch, small dining table, counter with basic kitchen essentials, large deck with sitting & eating areas.

*Guests do not have access to the upper level, back yard or thermostat.*

*We do not have a grill, fire pit, hot tub, wifi or a full kitchen.*

We stay in the upper level of the cabin, but we may be working or away traveling during your stay. We're flexible about guest interaction... We're happy to chat, but we can just as easily leave you to your privacy and you can always text or call us anytime with questions!

We love the fact that we can't see anyone from our decks, but we do see a lush forest and part of the Nantahala Mountain Range. We like our location because our cabin is fairly rural, but we can access paddling, rafting, biking, hiking, zipping, waterfalls, shopping, lakes & wilderness areas within 10 miles! The neighbors on our road take pride in their unique "Appalachian Yard Art" (typical of the area) that guests will see as they drive up to the cabin {old cars, colorful ironing board fences, old barn with road signs, satellite dish display, art stacks of children's bikes and yes.... my little ponies.

The Appalachian Mountains are the oldest mountain chain on earth! Our temperate rainforest is the second most diverse area in the world in terms of flora! There are many endemic native plants as well as unique and rare insects, birds, mammals, reptiles & amphibians. We consider all this flora & fauna part of our neighborhood and respect it as such.

The Nantahala River Gorge is a 10 mile drive (10-20 mins depending on where you're going) from our home with access to paddling, zip lines, gem mines, the Appalachian Trail, the Bartram Trail, Tsali mountain biking & rec area and Bryson City with local brews, coffee, pizza and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. The towns of Franklin, Highlands and Sapphire sit 15 miles (30 min drive) to the south of us, reached by traveling along scenic Hwy 28.

Asheville (the "big city") with the Biltmore, breweries, shopping & dining, botanical gardens and the blue ridge parkway are 1 hour and 15 minutes from our cabin, making an easy day trip.

Guests have access to free parking next to the cabin. There is no convenient public transit in the immediate area, however guests can call the Jackson County Transit for scheduled rides in the area and from the Asheville airport.

To travel comfortably, guests will need to rent a car at the airport, if flying into the area, or the closest car rental agency {Enterprise Rent-A-Car} is in Sylva, 25 minutes from the cabin.
Four airports serve the region, listed from shortest to longest travel time to our cabin:
Asheville Regional Airport (1h 20m),
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (2h 56m),
Nashville International Airport (4h 25m),
Raleigh-Durham International Airport (4h 40m).

--> VERIZON cell reception is usually GOOD here (it’s what we have, & rarely have a problem, UNLESS THERE'S A STORM), other companies may not work as well. We've been told AT&T works well, however.

--> When the HOT WATER is in use, you'll hear a TICKING SOUND for a short time (it's the pipes expanding), nothing to worry about :)

--> The COMMON AREA CEILING LIGHT/FAN is operated by PULL CORDS ONLY, there is no wall switch for this light/fan.

--> WE LIVE IN THE UPPER LEVEL, so you’ll probably hear some normal sounds of living. We try to be as quiet as possible during your stay!

--> If you hear a screechy meow, that’s our ORANGE TABBY CAT named CRYSTAL. She may come say hi to you, she's adorable, but she ISN'T ALLOWED INSIDE!

--> Our cabin is surrounded by forested areas that are home to wild critters. We suggest you DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT. Critters can abscond with a shoe!

--> We do live in the woods, therefore you will get the occasional bug that sneaks into the cabin. Please feel free to put it outside or vacuum it up!

--> There is a fold-away sink on the deck. Please wash dishes and place them in the bus tub rack to dry.

--> We only use non-toxic, biodegradable soaps & cleaning products to protect our beautiful Appalachian water ecosystems, and our guests’ health!

Nicole's place was a perfect resting spot for our weekend getaway! The basement has everything you could possibly need, and had a beautiful view! It was fairly spacious but still cozy. The place was so nice it was hard to find a desire to leave and go to town or anywhere else. Nicole was super nice and provided great suggestions of things to do and places to eat. If you are looking for a perfect place to stay on your mountain trip, I highly suggest this place!

We loved how cozy and comfortable Nicole's place was. It was perfect for a Smoky Mountain getaway with it being close to most ranges in the Smokys and Blue Ridge Pkwy. We liked how Nicole had labeled everything in the cabin and how everything was readily available. When we couldn't wash our dirty dishes because of no water, Nicole had someone do it for us which goes to show that she puts in great effort to make her guests feel right at home and comfortable.

Hello! We're Nicole and Stephan. (**Our good friend Will is your contact and cabin caretaker for the month of December 2016 while Stephan & I travel**).

Speaking of travel, we like to do just that, plus study plants, and enjoy nature. Stephan & friends built our cabin 12 years ago and he and I spend time improving it, starting new build projects and gardening. We own a native plant education & landscaping company and are loving teaching edible, medicinal & useful native plants for various organizations, outfitters and the local community college. In addition, Stephan teaches wilderness medicine and swift water rescue and I teach primitive living skills!

We began hosting guests in our home through AirBnB simply because we like to travel and want to offer folks the opportunity to experience life in our beautiful and wild area (our county is 85% federal land: national forest + national park!) With Airbnb, we have the mutual benefit of traveling ourselves. We currently live in the upper level of the cabin. The lower level is your vacation rental and is completely private.

Our style of hosting is flexible. We're usually around if you want to chat, but we'll let you enjoy the cabin for yourself if you prefer privacy. We may cross paths in the parking/garden area where you'll see us watering plants :)
