Welcome to Chicago! Guests from all over the world have stayed in my 100-year-old 1400 sq ft condo in South Shore. You'll be a short walk away from Lake Michigan and about a 20-minute commute to downtown.

PLEASE READ through my site thoroughly to learn more about me, the condo and South Shore.

PARKING:
There is FREE ON-STREET (NO STICKER REQUIRED) parking in front of the building.

CONDO:
This 1,400 sq ft flat on 2nd FL of 100+ year old quiet bldg located in the historic South Shore district. Hardwood Floors through out

BEDROOMS: Double Bed with bedding, closet w/ hangars and/or dresser, a desk/chair/trash can/alarm clock/window treatments/lamp. Recessed lighting/ceiling light with fan. Rug.

There is a community iron/board in the hallway.

ESSENTIALS: All but towels included

LIVING ROOM: Couch, chaise, love seat w/ottoman and dining table. Faux fireplace with library, many windows to let in sunlight.

KITCHEN: NEW CABINETS (Dec 2016), shelving for each guest, stocked with cookware, dishes, utensils and cleaning supplies. Gas stove/oven, full sized refrigerator, dish washing machine, and microwave. Individual trash cans. Cleaning supplies under the sink. Tiled floor.

ONE BATHROOM: Toasty in the winter due to steam heat throughout the building. There is a shower and bathtub with towel racks. Tiled floor. Cleaning supplies under sink.

HALLWAY: Drawers and shelving for storage.

LAUNDRY: Coin-operated laundry machines (washer and dryers) are on the first floor. $1.25 per load.

BACKDOOR: From the kitchen leads to back patio and dumpster

Guests can schedule a time to meet at the condo or can pick up keys at 5329 N Glenwood Ave Chicago, IL 60640. Contact me when you're on your way to pick up the keys, and I'll give you the lock box code. When you check out, you can leave keys with my co-host.

Guests will have access to the entire unit save other private rooms. Additionally, they will be able to use the laundry facilities/storage on the first floor.

Either I or my co-host will greet guests the day they arrive (unless you prefer to pick up keys from the lockbox off premises). After that, it's up to the guest how much they'd like to be in contact. I or my co-host will be available should a need arise.

SOUTH SHORE-

CULTURE:
The neighborhood is culturally and socioeconomically diverse with tree- lined streets adorned with an eclectic array of early 20th century architecture mixed with single-family houses. It boasts soul-food joints, jazz clubs and golf courses as well local markets. The local library and post office are on our street!

RENAISSANCE:
Currently, the South Shore, once a thriving, artistic community, is experiencing a renaissance. Home to the former behemoth U.S. Steel mill, the neighborhood will soon welcome President Obama's library and George Lucas' Star Wars Museum. The steel mill will become a park along the lake. Additionally, new housing and retailers are popping up. Moreover, the city is initiating a large-scale green energy program, which will power neighborhoods along the shore using wind and hydropower as well as reducing and recycling waste and water.

THE SKINNY:
Having said all that, in and around South Shore, there are areas that are not ideal. It's always best to be familiar with your surroundings in a large urban area. It's not uncommon to see boarded up houses or businesses.

In my nearly 4 years in the neighborhood, I've seen improvement. Neither I nor my guests have had any issues. However, if you're not accustomed to living in mixed-income areas, you may want to see the neighborhood before you come. Otherwise, I'm sure you'll be as comfortable as my former guests and I have been.

Free street parking in front of the building. No sticker required. 7-min walk to Metra train (Windsor Park Station). 4- to 10-minute walks to various bus stops ( and more)

CLEANING: Your Cleaning Fees are assessed to launder linens and clean/tidy up common areas after your stay. If you're staying longer than one month, there will be cleaning services for common areas during your stay each month.

Your Cleaning Fees does NOT cover: laundry, overflowing trash cans, food left in the refrigerator/shelves after you leave, torn or soiled bedding/mattresses, scuffed floors, walls or doors, missing items, dirty dishes on stoves, sink and/or dishwasher, layers/rings of soap film and scum in bath tub, sink and/or toilet. Any cleaning beyond normal cleaning of linens and common areas will be charged to the guest's security deposit.

HOUSEMATES: There will be one or two other guests staying in other rooms, so all guests are expected to keep common areas safe, clean and clear so all guests feel comfortable. Any complaints by housemates will be addressed treated seriously. Guest who are not compliant will have their reservations cancelled immediately.

BED BUGS: The city of Chicago (and around the US) has experienced an increase in bed bug infestations. It's a issue that both AIRBNB guests and hosts want to avoid. Therefore, my building HOA (home owners association) and I require visitors to follow this protocol if you are not traveling directly from your home or from a verified bed bug-free environment:

-Guests will first take luggage, bags, etc to the storage unit in the basement

-After I show you your room, we'll return to the basement to wash/dry your belongings. I'll pay for your laundry and provide detergent.

-I can steam clean any items that can not go into machines.

-All luggage/bags must remain in storage during your stay

-Once items are laundered, they may enter and be stored in the condo

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

This is smoke-free, drug-free condo/building.

Quiet hours: 9pm to 6am weekdays and from 11pm weekends.

Guests are asked to wear slippers/flip flops (I provide them if you don't travel with a pair) to avoid scratching hardwood floors. Any major damage to surfaces and/or furniture will be charged to the security deposit.

Save the planet/Keep Airbnb rates low: Turn off lights/unplug electronics when not in use

I do not live on the premises, and will travel an hour to greet guests at the residence. We can either schedule a check in time that is convenient for both of us, or you can pick up the keys anytime from a different address. We'll plan accordingly after your book the room.

2.
To make everyone comfortable and to keep hardwood floors free from dirt and allergens, guests do not wear shoes in the house. There's a shoe stand next to the door for your convenience. Slippers can be provided upon request.

3.
As there will be 2 or more guests occupying the condo at one time, it's imperative that all guests keep common areas clean, and leave rooms as they were found. For example, do not leave dirty dishes on the stove or in the sink. Clean up toothpaste in the bathroom sink or clear hair, soap scum from shower drain after each use. Complaints that common areas are not being kept clean and safe will be taken seriously and addressed immediately to ensure everyone feels comfortable.

4.
Lost/stolen keys are subject to a replacement fee (from Security Deposit) as the locks to the condo and to the entire building would have to be replaced. Each key will be $20 for the condo/bedrooms. Building keys will be subject to fees as deemed appropriate by the condo association.

It was a great stay! There were a few minor problems but Raegina communicated well with me. She's a professional and takes care of her guests! Kay, her co host is awesome too! Always willing to help

As of January 2017, I am a full-time graduaste student at Johns Hopkins University. Before beginning my new career in Nursing, I have been a university instructor, NPR producer and reporter and a filmmaker.

I'm a foodie who loves independent movies, and working out/running. I've traveled to more than 20 countries and I enjoy meeting new people from different walks of life.
