Staying at Shyama's place was a highlight of my cross country trip. While the accommodations were exactly what I needed and expected, the real treat was getting to know the host. Shyama is a really considerate host and fascinating human being with a lot to offer to friendly and open minded travelers. I would whole heartedly recommend his listing to other travelers

CAUTION: This listing is not what it seems. As a group of seasoned campers, we made a trip to Joshua Tree National Park for rock climbing. We were disappointed on multiple points: -Upon our arrival, the host appeared visibly intoxicated to three M.D's in the group. -He exhibited controlling behavior, and failed to respect personal space. -The women in the group felt unsafe in his presence. -He micromanaged tent placement. -BATHROOM: Immediately next to his bed, no separate access point. -Fire pit: adjacent to his home, fenced of,f and at an inconvenient distance from campsite. -Most significantly, we attempted to keep our interactions polite and courteous, despite the above. Unfortunately, immediately after our departure, he filed false accusations of discrimination with Airbnb, despite multiple minorities in our group. This was saddening and untrue. As a seasoned traveler, camper, and Airbnb use, this was the first time I've questioned my devision to use Airbnb.

Respuesta de Shyama Chandra:
Ben and his group were just horrible to me and my other guests that weekend. They were found to be very disrespectful to me and my other guests and were charged with discrimination through airbnb. Ben agreed prior to his arrival to the simple amenities. It's strange how they did not want to use the shared flush toilet at my home. They instead dug a hole in my backyard and I had to charge them to have the defecation removed and disposed of. First, do no harm. Most doctors respect and obey this critical medical rule. They want to help, not hurt, their patients. But there are more than a few who seem to have missed this important message. They may look at their patients and see an opportunity to vent their rage. As to me being intoxicated; that's my natural high. I have been chanting Hare Krishna everyday for almost 20 years and feel so much bliss. I'm sorry that you're such a sad and a pitiful bunch of brutes.

We reserved our stay last minute and he was extremely kind and helpful. He had a lot of insight into the nature of desert and even gave us a small tour to show us some flowers and vegetation. The house is very clean and inviting. The view is beautiful as well... If it says windy make sure to be prepared since it is in a flat part of the desert and with almost no cover the wind builds up. Other than that, thank you Shayma for a great experience! Hopefully we'll meet again.

Shyama's place is in a scenic desert location surrounded by mountains and under thousands of stars. Sitting near the fire and sharing food, drinks and stories with him and the other guests was a perfect way to stay warm during that cold night. We had the most wonderful time there with the most interesting host ! thanks Shyama, see you next time I'm in Joshua Tree !

Shyama is a kind, gracious host that's knowledgeable about many things. Our stay at Shyama's home was more than just the camping trip we expected it to be, thanks to everything he offered and his friendship. If you're thinking of camping in the area, I hope you seriously consider a stay with Shyama!

Shyama was an amazing host and his spot was a perfect welcome to the desert and Joshua Tree. From the moment we drove on to his property at 11pm (booked just hours before), he greeted us with incredible warmth and hospitality. Like others shared, he stayed up to help us set up our tent, aligned just right to deal with the desert winds. His warmth and care for all of his guests created a lovely atmosphere for everyone staying on the property. There were four groups or so staying the night we arrived -- our tents were spread far apart with plenty of privacy, but there was a fire pit for everyone to hang by. I wish I could have spent another night and taken Shyama up on his offer to check out the local moose lodge, one of many on his list of recommendations of local spots/attractions to check out. I hope to make it back again, thank you, Shyama!
