The Riverhouse sits on the edge of the Shenandoah River. With deck and screened porch overlooking the river, the water is 27 (stairway) steps away. The cabin is located on three acres, down a quiet, private road. Ideal tranquil setting for family gatherings. Toys abound -- for adults (tubes, kayaks, etc.) and kids (dollhouse, books, etc.). It has three bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths, full kitchen, and very large living/family room, comfortably accommodating 4-8 people.

El alojamiento

The Riverhouse offers a tranquil setting to relax and to enjoy both the water and the sounds of the Shenandoah River. Whether for tubing, boating, or fishing, there are only 27 (stairway) steps between you and the river (tubes and kayaks are available for your use).

And you don't have to be an ornithological expert to love the sound of birds chirping as you sit on the screened porch enjoying your morning coffee/tea. You may well even see the great blue heron who frequently perches on the lowest step off the deck.

With three bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths, full kitchen, and large living indoor area, the Riverhouse offers plenty of indoor living space. However, you will likely want to spend your time enjoying the property's many outdoor spaces:
* screened porch overlooking the river,
* the deck with the stairs leading to the river,
* the shaded front porch,
* the huge open yard,
* the firepit, and

oh yes, the river itself!

Wifi/cable: The Riverhouse has no wifi or cable television. (The house sits too far off main road for cable installation and the reception of available satellite providers is too weak to provide reliable service.) There is a television, DVD player, and collection of DVDs available for guest use.

Laundry: There is no washer/dryer at the property. There is a public laundromat in the Town of Shenandoah.

Cell reception: Sprint is the one cell provider of which you can be assured very good reception at the Riverhouse. Other cell provider reception is oddly random (e.g., two recent guests had Verizon reception (on the same plan), their iPhone had terrible reception, their android had flawless reception). Most guests report at least some reception at the house, and all can get a good signal if they are at the top of our road (about 1/3 mi)

Water: The house has well water. The entire filtration system was replaced recently, so the water is quite fine to drink. We love the taste. But it is well water, and some folks prefer to get bottled water rather than drink well water, so just want to provide that heads up.

Also, in re: water. When the water runs a long time (e.g., a number of showers in a row), sometimes there is a sulfur smell. This is because the filtration system can't keep up with the large quantity of water flowing through the hot water heater. The sulfur smell is not dangerous in any way, just noticeable for little while. It dissipates quickly. And, depending upon the number of people in your group and/or the time and length of showers, you may not even notice this at all.

Really enjoyed the cabin. Right on the river. Easy to access the river for floating on tubes or using kayaks and canoes. Really enjoyed our visit.

Beautiful area. We had a bachelor party here with 4 guys and it was the perfect spot. Easy access to fishing and kayaking on the river, hot tub for afterward. BBQ and fire pit for night time. Very memorable experience.

Sally provided a ton of really useful information for the house and the area. All in all, beautiful spot, had a good time escaping the city for a bit!

Our family had a great experience staying at the River House. It is the perfect location to stay if you are visiting Shenandoah National Park or other sights in the area. Our kids loved tubing, kayaking and fishing in the river located right behind the house. Sally is an excellent host and she went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.

Sally's cabin was wonderful for our party of 5 adults and one child. The description is spot on, just steps from the river. When we weren't tubing or kayaking we were sitting on the porch or by the bonfire. An extra bonus is that the house is toddler friendly with a pack n play, high chair, and plenty of toys. One weekend here was not enough! Sally was great at communicating tips and instructions; we felt right at home in her cabin.

I want to start off to tell you about Sally, the host/owner of the river house. She will respond to any query you have within an hour or two. Sometimes right away. She was amazing at communication as well as giving out a full itinerary of what to do when you arrive and check out. She is very friendly and kind as well as patient. I am really thankful as it made it more enjoyable for our stay! The river house is on a private road with a lot of quiet peaceful noises of the river, crickets, frogs, and various birds. There is a nice front yard with plenty of sunshine and grass for children to run around in. There are plenty of options of places to sit in as well, such as seated hammocks, outdoor tables, a fire pit, a wooden swing, and a lovely screened porch that is really nice to sit in during an early morning. We saw an eagle fly by and watched many various birds flying around, cooling off in the water, or climbing on the trees. There is a cow on the other side of the river you hear sometimes too. Sally has everything you need during your stay! We used cups, dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. Although we brought food with us, if we forgot something, Sally has things available to use. We did eat some popcorn we found there. The bedrooms are very cozy and our children slept well in the big double beds while my husband and I had our first time sleeping in a king sized bed. There is air conditioning (central air) that we needed during the hot August nights of our stay. There are also some cute toys for younger kids and board games available, though we kept our kids away from that because we wanted them to simply enjoy nature and being together. If we had a rainy day in though I am sure we would have played with all of that (we had sun during our days there). As for the river, my suggestion to those staying there is to bring river shoes or wear full covering shoes that you don't mind getting wet. The surface of a river is rocky. Expect it to be so. You will probably get injured if you don't wear shoes going into the water. We had a lot of fun walking to the middle of the river and relaxing while sitting on rocks. There were some deeper areas to get your whole body under the water too, but it is mainly shallow. We did not use the tubes or kayaks that Sally provides as well, but that would have been fun too. Our boys were too nervous due to the current in the river. I especially loved the sunrise each morning. WE LOVED IT!

We absolutely loved this cabin and will for sure be coming back in the future! It had everything we needed and more! The tubes and kayaks were so fun and we loved sitting on the screened in porch listening to the river! Thank you Sally for a great stay!
