El alojamiento

In the heart of the vibrant Bushwick art and music scene, my place is a wonderful, spacious, quiet oasis!
I am a sculptor and have lived and worked in this space for 15 years. It’s a private one story building, 14’ ceilings in front work/studio area, loft floor in back. Upstairs has a cozy bedroom with queen-sized bed, and bright, spacious, comfortable living area with couch (which can foldout), office area, and a shower.
The kitchen is efficient but not fancy: a small convection oven, microwave, hot plate, and coffeemaker. Another large bedroom downstairs with queen size bed. Small bathroom downstairs. AC, internet, landline. Total indoor space is 1200 sq ft. Wonderful old style live/work space built by artist. Not slick, very Brooklyn.
Best of all: a huge private sunny garden/outdoor area (over 2,500 square feet) through which you enter the building, and can hang out when the weather is good! Rose bushes, flowers, grape vines, fruit trees, and more. Great for pets! Parking for two cars. Extremely private. The down side is mosquitoes and flies, they are a nuisance it is true. Great for artist or pair of artists, a whole family, people visiting NY to sightsee, or for festivals, or short term work.
During the summer guests has the run of the whole place. There are rare occasions when I might be in town and need to spend a night or two there. I keep the place as clean as possible, but it is an old warehouse building, definitely a pioneer artist set up. I have a Ford F150 pickup truck that I park in the yard, and I use part of the yard as my outdoor sculpture studio. I am easy going and friendly; I will get along with guests who are quiet, clean, respectful of my property, and self-sufficient.
Just down the block the neighborhood is bustling with activity and artistic movement. Every day new restaurants, bars, clubs, art galleries, boutiques and specialty food stores open. It's a very diverse community: income, ethnicity, and occupation are all quite varied. Across Bushwick Ave are public housing projects. Across the street is the sanitation department truck repair. So right around my place is still quite industrial and rough looking, while just blocks away much has transitioned to artist's lofts, restaurants, stores, etc.
-5 blocks from subways: L (Morgan or Montrose), JM (Flushing); 20 minutes to Manhattan.
-laundromat across the street
-restaurants (Roberta's, Momo Sushi Shack, Tutu's etc.), bars, cafes, and galleries all within a few blocks; Bushwick has become one of the most vibrant artistic communities in NY (and the world)!

Servicios y zonas comunes

Certain months (usually summer and fall) guests have the run of the whole place. At other times I rent most of the space but keep the downstairs bedroom. At other times I will live with a guest as with a roommate. Prices vary accordingly.

Atención a los huéspedes

I am friendly and easy going. I usually work in my studio during the day. I am happy to show people around the neighborhood a bit, give them tips on where to go and what to see. I travel a lot for my work, so am often out of town.

Great place with lots of charm. The backyard is great for relaxing during the summer days and Wendy was a great host. Would stay there again for the convenient area and places to eat, drink etc.

Wendy was an amazing host and allowed us the privacy and freedom we needed. We really appreciated our stay. To go to Brooklyn on a budget, this place was on point and would 100% stay again.

Really nice lady and great communicator. Maybe not for everyone but a really enjoyable experience. Perfect for a different side of New York.

The month I spent staying in Wendy’s apartment was one of the best experiences I’ve had renting through Airbnb. It’s probably not for everyone - the space is large and comfortable, but still feels more like a converted warehouse than the architecturally designed loft apartments you can find in Manhattan. But it’s a unique space that feels perfectly suited to its surroundings in Bushwick, and I felt at home straight away. And it’s full of her amazing sculpture! I’d say the pictures are a very accurate representation, so if you look at them and like what you see you’ll probably enjoy staying here. There weren’t any serious negatives for me. I did find there were a lot of mosquitoes in the outside area, so I mostly stayed inside when I was at home. There’s also not a lot to see in the few blocks directly around Wendy’s place, but you don’t have to walk far to get to the heart of Bushwick, which is a lively area full of great bars and restaurants (especially for me as a vegetarian). Williamsburg is another good local area to visit, only half an hour walk or a few stops on the subway, and there are two convenient train lines within walking distance that take you into Manhattan. Anywhere that I wanted to visit in New York was easily accessible, but getting back to Wendy’s apartment at the end of the day felt like the perfect way to relax and recuperate. Wendy herself was a great host. We overlapped for two days before she headed out of state, and she was very welcoming. Sharing the space with her wasn’t uncomfortable at all, and she was happy to answer all my questions. She was also very responsive and gave helpful answers to any other questions or issues that came up, both before I arrived and when she was out of town. I’d definitely stay here again next time I'm in New York - in fact if it was available I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else!

Wendy's apartment sadly was a real disappointment. We had to leave on the third day because we found an actually dead rat inside the apartment. Yup, a dead rat. Owner told us that the backyard was messy because she hadn't been there for a few weeks, but it was an ABSOLUTE disaster, tall grass everywhere (barely any space to walk around), piles of random trash, looked really like the abandoned lot that's right next door. She said that someone came to clean the apartment but inside we found that the dishes were all dirty (I mean, there's-still-old-food-attached-dirty). Upstairs was actually nice with the sofa and the little red room, if you don't mind finding cockroaches everyday. Bushwick is a really hip zone, maybe not for everyone but we really liked it. Vibe kinda like east Berlin: Friedrichshain or Prenzlauer Berg. Sadly we had to leave, but we really liked the neighborhood. To be fair, Wendy was quick to responde us and gave us a full refund with no time. But still I can't leave a good review here. Price is not worthy.

Our stay in Brooklyn was great, the factorie conversion is large and with a space for a car. Very convienient to catch the train to Manhattan as flushing station is down the road. Host was lovely. Bed was comfortable, shower was good, wifi was good. Good price for Brooklyn! The immediate area probably isn't the nicest, but as a whole package it was fantastic!
