El alojamiento

The cabin is on the site of an old monks' retreat. The logs visible in the dining room and living room are believed to have been in the original structures on the property. Next to the large stone fireplace in the dining room is a corner filled with toys, games and books for children. The former summer kitchen which is located in a small cabin behind the main house is a recreated 1860's kitchen with period clothing for children to wear as they play. The game room with its pews that are believed to have been a small chapel has a small pool table, air hockey & boccerball. There is a net for volleyball or badminton on the grounds. A cistern with a manual pump times and an outhouse are down the hill; a stone well sits in the front yard. We are planting trees attempting to reduce the size of the yard. In the outlying areas the grass may be long; visualize forest there.

Servicios y zonas comunes

The house is 1900 sq. ft. with a full kitchen, dining room, living room, one and half baths and large enclosed back porch. There are two large bedrooms which will easily accommodate two families or a group of up to 9 people. One bedroom has a queen size and a bunk bed with double size bed on the bottom and a twin-size bed on the top. The other bedroom has a queen size bed with two twin beds. There is a futon in the dining room that sleeps one person. On the back porch is another bunk bed with double size bed on the bottom and a twin-size bed on the top. The roofed hot tub sits approximately 30 feet from the back door next to the woods. Eat at the picnic under the pines trees next to the house. From side porch cookout on the grill and enjoy the view as you eat. Relax in the swing and watch the energetic play volleyball.

We had a wonderful time relaxing. Very spacious and easy to either get away by yourself to read or plenty of common areas to enjoy together in groups.

We had a very nice stay at Whip-poor-will Retreat!  We enjoyed many of the amenities including the Children's toys and books, the DVD player to run one of their workout DVDs, Wii, cable TV, the play house, game room, stone fire pit and hot tub!  We corresponded with Alice a couple of times regarding minor issues during our stay and she quickly addressed them.  This was a great place for our family to stay; clean and had a well stocked kitchen with the utensils/pans for cooking.

This property is a nice place for families and is very kid friendly. It would also be great for a group of 6-8 adults. It is within driving distance of all the attractions of Hocking Hills. It is out in the country side but there is a nice little grocery store and gas station minutes away. Alice is a great host and promptly replied to any questions we had. We truly enjoyed our stay and I would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay! The check in and check out was very simple, and the proximity to the Rock House was a real plus. We spent a lot of the time enjoying the nearby trails.

Whip-por-will exceeded our expectations: clean, large kitchen, multiple spaces to congregate, convenient to our reason for visiting the area (hocking hills state park a short drive away), with people coming from various destinations. We are hoping to visit again during warm weather to take advantage of more amenities (hot tub, game room).

Whip-poor-will Retreat was all it was described to be and more! There were plenty of toys for our toddler to keep busy when we were at the house. We loved how spacious the house was. We were there specifically to hike in Hocking Hills so didn't take advantage of all the house to offer: fire pit, game shed, swing, porches. The location was perfect to get to the parks easily. All paved roads and easily accessible. The only surprise to us was that the hot tub was not hot when we wanted to get in. If we had realized that we'd have turned the temperature up before we went hiking so it would have been up to temperature when we returned. I might have overlooked that we needed to turn the temperature up.

I’m an amateur genealogist and love history so I was excited when we bought our cabin to find my husband’s grandmother went to school nearby and her girlhood friend was of the family for whom the road is named.

I’m a gardener; the grounds are filled with beauty, but challenging to manage. If you love birds as I do, you’ll enjoy the call of the whip-poor-will at night.

We have grandchildren so there are toys and many games. The small cabin out back is play area for children to experience history.
