Leland is a very quaint and comfortable property and I would recommend anyone visiting Shepherdstown to consider staying there! It is a very private property, but also quite convenient to the town and within easy walking distance of downtown. WE came to Shepherdstown for the Antietam Illumination drive and ended up attending the Christmas parade as well! Downtown was an easy walk from Leland, making our stay much more festive and enjoyable! Meg's property was VERY clean and comfortable, and she even had an abundance of wonderful apples that we very much enjoyed. we would recommend Leland and stay there again ourselves. Thanks Meg. HT

Meg was great! She communicated quickly, gave us all the information we needed, tailored the kitchen supplies to suit our needs, and even left us some fresh apples. The house is adorable and we had everything we needed. We were able to park at the house and walk into town every day. It's very conveniently located! Thanks Meg!

If you are headed to the area to see the Antietam battlefield and/or simply enjoy history, then I highly recommend staying at Leeland. I personally am a history buff, particularly about the American Civil War, and was ecstatic to find out Robert E. Lee's first cousin, Edmund Jennings Lee, is the one who built the house. Two of Edmund Jennings Lee's sons served in the Civil War, and Robert E. Lee himself stayed there many years later after the war when in the area on business. We found all this out after talking with Meg and she was kind enough to let us read a short history write-up about Leeland. Meg is a great host and will be sure you are taken care of! Very nice and sweet! Leeland is quaint and full of charm, you won't be disappointed!

This lodging is located close to everything in Shepherdstown without being in the center of town. It is quiet, private and definitely has character. Meg is a wonderful hostess and knows the area very well. This is a perfect lodging for a couple or a single person.

Perfect location, walking distance from restaurants, etc. in downtown Shepherdstown but on a quiet lot set far off the road. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. Beautiful property with pretty gardens around the house. Meg provided great instructions and helpful info.

Meg’s place was perfect - great location and super cozy and comfortable! We had a great nights sleep and the heater in the bathroom was really nice when getting out of the shower.

Meg's home is great and we enjoyed staying there. You are a quick walk to everything you need downtown and yet very secluded when home. Nice gardens out front and Meg was quick to answer any questions we had. Will definitely stay there again when we are back in the area.

I'm a passionate gardener, and devoted to historic preservation,. My husband and I lived for many years in a beautiful Queen Ann just outside DC. We had a second home -- an old stone farmhouse on the National Register -- in West Virginia, and moved there full time in 2008, after seguing into retirement. Now I've taken on the challenge of restoring Leeland, an estate bordering Shepherdstown, the oldest town in WV and a perfect gem. The old law office at Leeland (1830) has already been completely restored and is available for rent, while the rest of the main house and separate cottage are under construction. I'm also into cooking for family and friends, reading the classics and good modern fiction, and most of all, parenting my delightful handicapped son Scott.
