Leeland , at 5011 Kearneysville Pike, adjoins Shepherdstown, the oldest town in West Virginia, full of theater, art and culture, restaurants, parks and civil war sites. You’ll love Leeland because of the outdoor space, historic charm, recent remodelling with HVAC, full kitchen and bath. You are in the country, yet only a stone's throw to downtown Shepherdstown. It's good for couples (maybe a young child or two) and solo adventurers.
- The rental is a separate wing with its own front and back door. Built in 1825, there are rough-hewn stone steps outside, and low clearances on the narrow stairway and in a couple of doorways.
I'm a passionate gardener, and devoted to historic preservation,. My husband and I lived for many years in a beautiful Queen Ann just outside DC. We had a second home -- an old stone farmhouse on the National Register -- in West Virginia, and moved there full time in 2008, after seguing into retirement. Now I've taken on the challenge of restoring Leeland, an estate bordering Shepherdstown, the oldest town in WV and a perfect gem. The old law office at Leeland (1830) has already been completely restored and is available for rent, while the rest of the main house and separate cottage are under construction. I'm also into cooking for family and friends, reading the classics and good modern fiction, and most of all, parenting my delightful handicapped son Scott.
