This area is visible from the other hill only by the roof panels, as the house blends into the landscape. The views are 360 as the house has windows facing the ocean and wooded areas. The ocean is virtually everywhere you look.
Within the property I have two structures that are connected by a captain’s walk. The one structure is a rectangular house of 2 stories, and the other is a hexagon bedroom area of 2 stories. Both structures have a covered porch and both have clear views of the Pacific Ocean. There is a central staircase that takes you to the second story that meets up with the captains walk. From there you turn left to the rectangular house or right to the hexagon quarters.
The rectangular house has a master bedroom 12 x 13 feet that takes up the entire 2nd level. It has 360 degree views of the ocean and surrounding coastal mountainscapes. There is a bed for two and at the foot of the bed along the wall is a place to hang your hat and clothes rack too. The floor is all wood and has a little bathroom in the corner. Above you is a ceiling fan with a variable dial control beside the bed and up there are also speakers that you can hook up to your computer or phone for music. No need for a/c as there is always a breeze from the ocean. And being you are basically on the equator, no need for a furnace, as the temps at night are in the 70's. The bedroom door opens to the wood yoga deck that is 13 x 15 feet and is covered with a transparent blue roof. If you wish to use it for yoga or whale watching or birding or just swinging on the hammocks, you will be engulfed with the endless blue ocean just out there 700 feet down and about a great golf driver shot away.
The rectangular house has a complete kitchen below with a Guayacan Ironwood bar and stools. And there is a hammock in the dining area if you so choose to swing. Within the kitchen there are all the necessaries; a refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee machine, stove and oven, pots and pans, flatware, utensils like wooden spoons, glassware, can and wine openers, and all the equipment needed to cook up a storm, including storage containers with spices. And yes there is hot running water throughout. The lighting is romantic as well if you so choose to go there. And the kitchen too has 360 degree views of the ocean and surrounding coastal mountainscapes. There is a half mile long driveway that connects the house to the road that takes you down to the little fishing pueblo of La Rinconada and also up to the main road which is the Ruta de Spondylus that runs the length of Ecuador.
Outside the kitchen door is an inlaid brick sidewalk that connects you to the hexagon tower quarters and to the outside bathroom/shower.
The hexagon tower structure has a bedroom on the second floor and another on the first floor. The first floor has a bathroom as well.
The upstairs bedroom is currently being occupied by the property Manager, who will be on-site and able to assist with any ongoing issues/needs.
The bedroom floors are wood throughout, and have brick walls with amazing vistas. The upstairs has perhaps the most intriguing views of the ocean below, as it is really perched up there in the nose bleed section. Not for the vertigo types.
The birding is spectacular as I do not allow domesticated animals on the property.
Also there are sloths, jaguarundi, fruit bats, wild boar, burros, and other animals that I have yet to recognize. Then there are the moths and butterflies that migrate and others like the blue morphos that just live there year round. If you like the 8 and 6 legged types they are there, like the gorgeous tarantulas that are rose colored as well as purple and tan. If you just want to get away, this is what the doctor ordered. You are just living within the realm of wildlife.
Of course, I want to tell you about the humpback whale migration from July through September. Right there; just from the wood deck, captains walk, bedrooms, kitchen and outside bathhouse is a window to the world of humpbacks breaching and performing their renowned acrobatics. The location of the house nestled between two coastal mountainsides gives amplification, something like what Redrocks has in Denver, Colorado, USA. The sounds are unmistakable as they just breathe out all around you. You can walk down to the private beach and picnic if you like, it only takes about 20 minutes following a path along the river bed below that leads out to the ocean. It is steep, but the footing is good and the vistas along the way are remarkable. You feel like you are within a jungle at times, and that is exactly what it is, a coastal jungle terrain with palm trees and other exotic flora. And when you begin to hear the surf, you enter into a world that only the shipwrecked have seen; as there are large boulders that caress the sandy beach at low tide. Along the sandy beach you can find sea shells and wonderful little stones of every imaginable color and shape. If you are up to it, you can pitch a kayak and just head on out there, or paddle out with your board.
As for assistance getting around, the property manager is available to assist with any and all needs and he can provide information on the goings on in the local towns and how to get there and what time is best for surfing. Montañita is 15 kilometers south of La Rinconada and Ayampe is just north. You can get to both for 50 -75 cents by bus, and there you can do anything you want from getting in touch with the locals, shopping, getting tipsy, eating like a wolf or just hitting the beach. Yes the surfing is the attraction, yet the little known secret, is the best surfing in just down the hill from the house, right out there along the coast, La Rinconada. Though the wave is smooth, this is an advanced point break with rocks, and should only be surfed by the most experienced surfers.

The property manager lives nearby. She is Ecuadorian and educated in the United States. She knows everyone and what and where to do things. Very helpful.

The price here has recently been dropped significantly.
Be courteous to the wildlife and keep it all natural as it always has been important for this location still has nature at your fingertips. The rules of the house are easy, just no smoking and nothing excessive with disturbing the environment and its creatures or the very few other neighbors as they are native Ecuadorians.

I have always been in love with nature. Now I live within it in a wonderful little pueblo called La Rinconada. I orchestrated my career for 30 years as an IT Analyst/Oracle DBA and built a medical system you may know as WebMD. I was an exchange student from Uniontown, PA back in 1967 and visited Ecuador for 3 months. I returned 40 some years later and built a house on the edge of the continent facing the Pacific Ocean. After my computer career ended in 2001 I became a yoga instructor being I had been practicing yoga since 1974. I have taught Hatha yoga in Costa Rica, Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania and still do teach in Ecuador. Even ;though I am 62 years old I really keep myself fit and watch what I eat. Basically when down in Ecuador I have many options as I live close to the ocean and have access to organic fruits and vegetables and seafood that comes in any and all flavors and varieties, either growing on my property or at the open air markets that dot the coast. The house I built there is perched up high on a mountain side and has unobstructed views of the ocean. I have my own private beach and my only neighbors are birds and whales. I encourage you to come and stay at my home and rent it as long as you like. I am just about finished with the construction of my second home on my property and it is to be a doozy. It features a wine cellar and museum with a wrap around deck, all facing the ocean and the incredible sunsets. I read a bunch and cover any topic as I have a wide range of interest. I am not one to watch TV though. I have wifi at the house and watch movies whenever I'm in the mood. I am one heck of a cook and spend a lot of time in my kitchen. I don't own a car as I ride my bike around Denver and use the mass transit systems there, and when in Ecuador I just walk and take the bus anywhere, as they have a bus for every destination. I realize life is short and experiences that come from venturing into the unknown is how I learned so much about life, and therefore believe I have given myself a chance to say I have done well with my time. As for video games and sitting around, I don't do much of that. I am way old school and had fabulous parents for 50 some years before they passed on. I was married once back in 1980, and divorced in 1987, but don't hold that against me. It was what we both wanted to do. We had no children, but I find kids gravitate to me. So I get to have children without owning them so to speak. I am learning Spanish little by little as I have been going down to La Rinconada now since 2008. I have a cedula which is the national id card of Ecuador and I have a retirement visa. I know all the places to surf and eat and how to get from here to there. When you come down I will either show you around or have someone relegated to do all that for you. Ecuador is a safe place, the president revoked all private gun ownership years ago. The country has social security, retirement, workman's comp, national free health, dental, and the people love the president. There are new schools and new roads all over the country and Ecuador is energy self-sufficient. The price of diesel is $1.04 per gal. The people are simple minded and family oriented and are a very happy lot. The women love their babies and breast feed them and hold them dear. Literacy has been an issue, yet now there is a big focus on education and this next generation will have advantages that their predecessors did not. All in all, you can do anything you want in Ecuador as it is free. My advise is to learn how to blend in with the people and respect their culture. If you act kindly, you will receive kindness like you didn't think still existed in the world. There are many things to do and places to go as there are 3 regions of the country; the amazon which they call the oriente, the Andes which the call the sierra and the coastal region. Give yourself enough time to explore all and you will be rewarded for a lifetime. Zane
