Perfectly located between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios on Jamaica's North coast, approximately 20 mins from the airport (MBJ), in historic Falmouth with its preserved Georgian architecture and rich history, Cabaña Papaya, a 3br 2bth vacation home that can comfortably sleep eight, is situated in a new gated community called Holland Estates, developed on lands previously used for the cultivation of papayas, in close proximity to beaches and other cultural, heritage and adventure type attractions.

Those attractions include: the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Music Festival held late January each year; rafting on the Martha Brae River; the Good Hope Great House Tour and associated Chukka Adventure activities (think long Zip Lines and ATV trail riding etc); the Swamp Safari; night swimming in a bio-luminescent lagoon!; the Falmouth heritage and food tours; the Rose Hall Great House Tour and many, many more - not to mention learning kiteboarding at the first and only IKO kitecenter on the island at nearby Bounty Bay plus swimming and/or relaxing at white sandy beaches that are among the safest (shallow and relatively calm) for young children.

Additionally, the cruise ship pier in the town of Falmouth is called upon by mega cruise ships Monday to Friday of each week. Falmouth receives the lion's share of cruise ship visitors to Jamaica, but manages to avoid being too touristy. Further, all the other major attractions on Jamaica's North coast are within a hour's drive, to include Montego Bay's night life approx 20 mins away.

Cabaña Papaya sits in a quiet slightly elevated cul de sac and benefits from beautiful mountain views and cool breezes. It is fitted with a solar water heater and airconditioning units in the bedrooms. Also, there are remotely controlled ceiling fans in every bedroom, the living room and dining area. Cabaña Papaya has an open plan layout of the main living areas with a large south-facing arched window and is airy and bright throughout.

There is a washer and dryer in the unit for the convenience of guests and the kitchen is fully equipped for ease of self-catering.

Cabaña Papaya also boasts high speed wired and wireless Internet access and cable TV - to include the big networks and 24 hour international news networks (CNN, CBC, BBC, Al-jazeera, etc).

So come to Cabaña Papaya - your very own tropical retreat and base station where you can have your cake and eat it too! All at your own pace and in your own way whilst having an authentic Jamaican experience living among the friendly locals - Jamaica's best attraction!!

Guests will have unfettered access to all the available amenities for self-catering.

We are always available by telephone, and other electronic means, and our caretaker (she lives nearby and will check you in and out) will always be on hand for in-person interactions as required and/or requested.

A local pay-as-you-go mobile phone is provided, as required, to facilitate ease of communication during your stay.

Holland Estates is a new, quiet and safe gated community, with the grounds attended by 24-hr security, that is close to the Falmouth Town Centre, restaurants, beaches and numerous cultural and heritage attractions.

The following is a nice synopsis of the town of Falmouth taken from the website of Falmouth Heritage Walks Ltd - a purveyor of walking and food tours of Historic Falmouth:

' Whether you arrive by air or by sea, the only way to truly experience the historic town of Falmouth is to explore it on foot.

Falmouth is a historic port town, located between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios on Jamaica's north coast, and is perfectly laid out to be explored by walkers. Founded in 1769, this architectural gem boasts the finest collection of Georgian architecture in the Caribbean, and has been listed as one of the world's 100 most endangered monuments four times in the last decade.

The story of Falmouth begins when "sugar was king" and it quickly became a very busy port and quite a wealthy town from the profits of sugar, rum and slavery. The evidence of the the town's prosperity was reflected in its architecture, some of which is still visible today, but history reveals to us other notable facts not so visible. For instance, Falmouth had running water before New York City, piped from a reservoir that was located in the centre of town. Also, the quintessential romantic poet of the Victorian era - Elizabeth Barrett Browning, was very closely connected to Falmouth through her great-grandfather Edward Barrett, one of the two main developers of the town in the late 1700s. Of significance is the role the town played in the movement to abolish slavery as it essentially served as its headquarters, led by men like William Knibb, the "Great Emancipator", who is buried at the Baptist Church in Falmouth.

Long before a cruise ship terminal was conceptualized for Falmouth, this historic town has attracted much interest. Through the efforts of international bodies such as the World Monuments Fund, the International International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and our very own Falmouth Heritage Renewal, a number of field schools in historic preservation and archaeological digs have been undertaken, all leading to increased awareness of the hidden treasures of this town. For Edward Chappell of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, who has been visiting the town for the last 20 years, the big appeal of Falmouth is "the unity and spectrum of design of the pre-industrial structures, as it reflects diverse culture and division." '

Usain Bolt attended the William Knibb Memorial High School not very far from Cabaña Papaya, and Falmouth is effectively his home town having grown up in one of its outlying districts!

Public transportation (route taxis and buses) is readily available and relatively inexpensive, especially for the short trips into Falmouth Town Centre (3 mins) and the city of Montego Bay (20 mins) as well as to and from the nearby beaches and other attractions.

However, depending on the length of your stay and your holiday objectives, you may want to rent a car to more conveniently explore the island. Just remember we drive on the left!

You are coming to the tropics where mosquitoes and sand flies can be a nuisance especially at dusk and dawn on the beach, so take along your preferred bug spray etc.

All the windows at Cabaña Papaya are fitted with insect screens and if those screens and the doors are routinely kept closed that should avoid the nuisance of flying insects indoors.

Modern, clean, practical, well located in a gated, quiet and feel-safe community. Friendly neighbors and Audrey is a wonderful caretaker on the ground there. Value for money and all other aspects of enjoying a home away from home makes this home a "10".

The neighborhood is very quiet and safe in a gated community. Roderick and Nicole were excellent and always available to answer questions. They were extremely accommodating and welcoming all the way from England. The house was very cozy and had all the amenities needed for our stay. I would definitely recommend friends to stay there. Thank you for making my Fiancé and my stay so pleasant and hassle free.

The Wifi device is mobile and can be placed anywhere our guests find most convenient to them. That fact would have been briefed during the check-in procedure.

Our stay at this place was great! The house is clean and in a nice gated community. The pictures are a true reflection of the home. It was spacious and had enough beds to accommodate everyone. The bedrooms have AC and celling fans which made it comfortable to sleep in at night. The caretaker of the house was very helpful and made us feel comfortable. The house was a little difficult to find. I called the caretaker and she guided me to the home. The home could have better bedding. I am glad we took a couple small blankets and towels. The home does have a washer and dryer which is handy. I definitely recommend this place if you know the area its a great place to stay. It is a drive from tourist places in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. The nearest markets, restaurants and beaches are a short drive away. Overall we enjoyed our stay in this home. I would definitely stay here again.
