One building back from the beach, this classic Bed & Breakfast has an exceptional location. Private guest rooms are individually decorated with a mix of period antiques & contemporary furnishings. All rooms have A/C, free WiFi, flat-screen cable TV, and private bath. Gourmet, cooked-to-order breakfasts -- served at individual tables for two! --- begin each day. Friendly owners live on-site.

El espacio
The Mooring was built in 1882 as a boarding house, not a private home, and so is noticeably more spacious inside than many other Victorian inns which were originally summer “cottages” for the well-to-do. Ironically, this house was renovated to create a front parlor and a dining room – rooms not original to the building – to give the illusion of a grand private residence. Although there are some lovely antiques, there are some lovely contemporary pieces as well – this isn’t a museum! We’ve blended comfort and functionality with an eclectic, only vaguely Victorian, design. And since we revamp a room every year, there is always something new!

Servicios y zonas comunes
The Mooring is an owner-occupied guest house, and as such provides private guest bedrooms/baths as well as common spaces for the use of all. The common rooms are on the ground floor: a large front parlor with three seating areas, including an inlaid card table from the isle of Capri; a dining room with eight tables for two, where breakfast is served each morning; a small guest kitchen (please note: reheating only; no cooking facilities!) with full-size refrigerator/freezer, sink and microwave. Coffee and tea are available here 24/7. (There is a second full-size fridge for guest use in the hallway on the third floor.) There's a large front porch with a dozen rocking chairs … the perfect spot for that first cup of coffee in the morning or a late afternoon glass of wine! And, this being a beach house, there are two enclosed hot/cold outdoor showers (stocked with soap and shampoo/conditioner) for rinsing off after a day in the sand and salt water. Although Leslie & Vince live on the premises, their “owner’s apartment” (located in the very rear of the building, and including the back deck) is off-limits, and is the only area which falls under this category.

Cape May, Nueva Jersey, Estados Unidos

Cape May – the entire town! – is a National Historic Landmark. It was one of the 19th century’s original seaside resorts and there is a wealth of Victorian architecture on display. Most of the shops, restaurants, inns, guest houses, and ornate “painted ladies” are located within the primary historic district, an area easily explored on foot; most people get here, park, and don’t use their cars again until they leave.

Our beaches are wide and clean, life-guarded during the summer months, and they are paid access. A daily beach tag is the most expensive option, and is designed primarily for those staying in neighboring towns and visiting Cape May just for the day; there’s also a 3-day tag, a weekly tag, and a season tag. All may be purchased at any of the beach entrance points.

Our year-round population is only about 4000, but this swells in the summer months to nearly ten times that! This means that most properties – other than the numerous B&Bs and guest houses – are weekly rentals. Cape May, however, is NOT like the Jersey Shore portrayed on reality TV! The town tends to attract couples, foodies, and families. This isn't to say that there is never any street noise, but it does tend to be more tranquil here than in many of the other popular NJ shore towns. We have an abundance of fabulous restaurants, many of them BYO; bars ranging from the casual & beachy to the subdued & elegant; a cute pedestrian shopping area, the Washington Street Mall, where you can buy everything from a touristy T-shirt to an exquisite handmade wooden bicycle; wineries, breweries, distilleries, a world-class zoo, and epic bird watching! Whew!

We have been the owner/innkeepers of a B&B in Cape May, NJ, for over 20 years. Leslie relocated to Cape May after 10 years in southern CA where, despite holding a B.A. in Music, she was program manager in a small defense electronics firm. Magically, however, her multi-tasking skills, modest computer literacy, organizational ability, and a mild form of obsessive-compulsive disorder have made her an ideal behind-the-scenes powerhouse. (And she's a great cook, too!) She speaks almost passable French, and loves to travel. Vince is a Cape May native. In former lives he was a room service captain for Harrah's Casino, cook on a commercial scallop boat, landscaper, and Cape May's best paperhanger. Clearly this makes him ideally suited to his current roles of front-of-the-house manager, concierge, handyman —you get the idea! His passion is surfing, though, and he's traveled the world pursuing waves.

Durante tu estancia
We live here! We’re available if you need us, but we don’t hover – you have space and privacy. One or the other of us is on the premises most of the time, but if we’re not you can always reach us by phone or text if you have an emergency. Vince has lived in Cape May since he was two and Leslie’s lived here since 1993 when she purchased the house – between the two of them you have a lot of insider knowledge to mine … if you want to.
