You are up to immerse yourself into our Home where true nature, healthy life style and tranquility reign. A break to boost inner energy for your Mind,Body&Soul. A place where social distancing is for real. You can experience Eco simple life back to nature and Javanese traditions and culture.
JiwaLaut is a sustainable extended family empowering villagers through projects and activities guests can support.
Our purpose is to make you exploring our gems, meet locals & leave you lasting memories.

El espacio
Our purpose is to offer a different experience than a standard modern Villa.

We would like to host you in our family house to make you feel like a home away from home place, inside a soulful Javanese traditional local wooden Joglo with vintage interior design furnitures and thoughtful touches.

Experiencing a disconnected lodging, with enough city like comfort amenities needed to enjoy and relax (electricity, balinese style mosquito nett, traditional natural air circulation system, open sky bathroom with american standard toilet seat and refreshing natural shower, high quality spring matras and pillow etc...).

This house was innovative designed with elegance by the architect "Yu Sing Liem" and his Akanoma crew (Bandung).
Our both aim was to blend traditional Javanese village (desa) design with modern structure to create green sustainable humanitarian architecture. We knocked down an old traditional farm house from Gunungkidul, upcycling old tek wood walls and dutch colonial floor tiles.

Our architect was three times awarded in 2015 and 2016 as best sustainable construction, design and green leadership together with our Balai building, the Eco infrastructure around and our community work.

The building process was to try to be sustainable blending traditional and modern technics. We try to save cement by using local very ancient way to make wall stones with very little concrete. We empowered and hired local people as part as our fair share program.

We collect rain water into tanks located next to the house.
We treat through a natural system your gray water into frog and fish pound and last but not least your toilet output will produce biogaz and great fertilizer to grow organic vegetable and fruits to the future guests.

We like to add more homey feeling decorating and furnishing our joglo with unique handmade wooden design furniture and decorative items made by Javanese artists craftsmen. They are made with certified FSC Recycled Tek or other precious labeled wood.

The Joglo has THREE (3) private room, a large living room, a balcony, backyard and front yard.

The house is ideal for 4-6 people and can host up to 8 persons. Babies up to 2 years old free.

The main bedroom has ocean view and a king size handmade carving bed.
The other two bedrooms have garden view and queen size wooden beds with comfortable high quality matras. All have mosquito nets.

On top of that you can enjoy the spacious living room, its day bed, the sofa and chairs, with a very long gallery style balcony facing the ocean and the rice fields.

You will have Two (2) large private open sky bathrooms facing the backyard to enjoy cool showers and toilet time. One is western style and the other one is a traditional mandi.

The building is surrounded by our relaxing garden and bush backyards. We try to get our place back to the way the hill would have look long time ago before deforestation.

We don't have private kitchen in this house, but we have the village women having a kitchen on site to cook for the guests.

We also rent out for couples our "Omah Bamboo" Honeymoon bungalow or for smaller families and group of friends, Rumah Hill Top up to 4 people or our twin Limasan up to 4 people and we have for budgets families or larger groups our Balai dormitory up to 20 people.

Local people used to eat most of the days vegetarian, having fish only a few time a week and meat only for special days when they sacrified one of their animal.

They try to follow their traditional customs which was very locavore, using product ultra local from the costal area and the salt being the longest travelling distance product, about 150km, volcanic pure natural salt. Our suppliers still work following traditions, as small scale artisans and farmers with passion of doing what they love.

Your host is graduated in food engineering and specialist in nutrition for any advise you may need.

The house is within walking distance, about 100 meters, 2-3 minutes, from the pristine quite Watu Kodok white clean sandy beach where you can sunbathe, relax, meditate, enjoy drinking a fresh coconut, eating a nasi goreng and swim if you are skilled swimmers (it is open indian ocean with high amplitude tides coefficient) and the waves can be big depending on the season. However don't worry too much we swim often here without problem. Just be aware and prepared.
You can even try bodyboarding for the adventurous one. (we have one snorkling gear, swimming googles, two body boards and one old surfboard.)

The alternative for enjoying the ocean safely are 2 swimming lagoons at the neighbor beach Drini. One not deep for children and non swimmers and another one further, within walking distance, our favorite lagoon, protected from big waves, which is perfect and safe for swimming and snorkeling when the tide is right (around mid tide).

We recommend to bring lycra to protect from the sun and booties as you may encounter at some places natural hazard as sharp rocks, urchins, corals or anything that may heart your foot.

We are at the beach but we are so much more than a stay at a beautiful beach. We have beautiful farming fields, country side and forest as back yard. Traditional villages and many karstic caves to be explored.

We are primary an environmental and sustainable learning center to show that living using one planet is not such a terrific life but the other way around as some of us are ex-city people :-)

We are also a Social and Cultural learning center. We are passionate about Javanese local culture, music and arts and like sharing social experience with local people. We like to introduce you to social activities which are our highlight, make us very different if you are interested.

We also recommend to enjoy our garden and neighbor farmers with their cows and goats.
Don't hesitate to ask us for an introducing tour around the property to show you the hidden places and best view and also how works our sustainable compound, with black water treatment and biogas, grey water treatment system, eco architecture, permaculture garden, the rain water tank collectors. We just ask people to put an up to your heart donation into our donation box to support our projects and make possible our activities to continue as we have high maintenance cost.

We offer free hammock on every bungalows front balcony and additional if you want to hang one anywhere on the garden

We are part of the community Refillmybottle. We offer safe drinking mountain water for refill your own bottle. We just ask you to put a minimum of 1000rp per small bottle and 2000rp for big bottle into the donation box to able us to finance our project of banning the use of single use plastic objects, Ecobricks making and the beach cleaning to keep the beach nice for all.

We have an affordable car and local drivers available for bringing you around.

The villagers rent scooter/motor to explore around.

Free access to our hill top gazebo and bench for meditation and our balai building for workshop, meditation, Yogya, Pilate, children playground or whatsoever inside activities you may want to do by yourself on your own for free.

Otros aspectos destacables
You will stay in a still natural countryside ecosystem where humans need to open their mind and live harmonised with the nature and its inhabitants who were living here long before us. Even accepting sharing sometimes mutually the area with some bugs or geckos living around us.
We try our best to offer best standard of cleanliness and hygiene but don't expect the place be as clean and sterile like western high standards big hotels as we are located in unspoiled indo country side, surrounded by farms, forest and beaches.
Bungalows are not hermetically closed to get natural breeze air circulation and you may get little bit dust or leaves and salty moisture air from the ocean wind. The bathrooms have also open roof to feel the nature.
We don't use chemicals to clean but natural soap, white vinegar and soda powder like our grand-parents did.

This area is only open to tourism for a couple of years. We were the first to do it at our beach since 2014. The local people still live around us their traditional farmer and fishermen Javanese life. We ask you to respect them and their customs as we are their "guests". The local people and us we don't practice "tourists" or "foreigners" prices, same price for anybody. All the prices unlike tourists area do not include 15-20% services and taxes. We ask you to not use this opportunity to exploite them as they already have been for centuries. One of our philosophy is share, enrich not exploite. Their income and margin are very little that's why the prices are low. We encourage our visitors to round up and tip generously the people and the service you use and get if you are happy with it. They have the same right to get fair salary and have access to the same standard of living as anybody has. Not tipping is seen as you may not be happy with their meals, driving, massage or whatever they offer you. 10 to 20% is fair, but bear in mind that nowadays you can't buy much in a shop with 1000 or 2000 rupiah, so never leave just coins. You can also offer presents is you are invited or want to extra reward people. Tipping is not only good for your karma also you will get more respect and reward from the people. More you give is more you get in all the sense of the word.

Please take note that our crew and people working for tourist at and around our area are not hospitality tourism professionals. People were farmers, fishermen, construction workers, public servant or office people etc... We are all new in this field and learning by doing. So cannot expect to get the full 5* resort standard service in our area, as tourism is very new.

Our second philosophy is to limit our impact to the minimum on a fragile ecosystem area, with scarce natural resources to be shared with all the people living and visiting around the beaches.

We don't provide AC but there is natural sea breeze (extra small fans can be offered on demand) and the architect built it in a way to make the most of it.

No hot showers (not a must in tropical hot country) but fresh water (we can if you really need it cook hot water) and we and the earth will be very happy if you save water as we have limited water tanks and spring capacity particularly during the dry season. Please save electricity as we still depend on government coal power station (turn off lights, limit charging batteries).

Please come with your reusable water bottle which you can refill with safe drinking filtered water (we are part of refillmybottle community). we just ask small donations 1000rp for small and 2000rp for big bottles to be put into our donation box, which we use to finance our zero waste project and the refill zero waste water station.

Please be aware that in this area there aren't any trash management organised, people burn or dump trash in the nature, so please do not bring with you non compostable single use disposable plastic products as our place can't handle it or if needed bring it back with you to the city after your stay as many guests like to do.

The closest ATM and very well furnish supermarket are more than 30 minutes scooter or car driving from our places. Only local warungs, toko. Credit and debit cards are not accepted in the region. So please take enough cash and what you may need extra.
You are up to immerse yourself into our Home where true nature, healthy life style and tranquility reign. A break to boost inner energy for your Mind,Body&Soul. A place where social distancing is for real. You can experience Eco simple life back to nature and Javanese traditions and culture.

Durante tu estancia
We are not business hotel professional as we come from different fields. Our primary activity is to run our projects and experiments.

We try to give the best hospitality from our deep heart to our guests, like hosting family or friends to make our place different from a resort. Our interaction with guests is up to our guests willing to have any with us and our extended community family and of course depends on our presence and availability with our program schedule.

If you want to be sure to meet the Host and Founder of Jiwa Laut, book and ask in advance, so she can adjust her busy planning. We all have side activities to support ourself. At least there is always someone present on site 24h, however some of us have very very limited english.

Of course we are willing to share with you our natural surrounding environment, knowledge, philosophy and spirituality and alternative way of life avoiding plastic and high consumerism city life style, close to nature.

We can introduce you to local traditions and people living around us. We are willing to show and offer you experiences, activities and bringing you around if you want to. This way your money spent during activities will be shared to our extended communities and used to finance projects. Which is the reason why we opened our Community to Airbnb.

You will never feel bored even if you are on your own.

We work as a collective mix of city and local people wanting to change to a more healthy happy lifestyle or for the others maintain their traditional life style away from the lucre of modern city life.

Here it is Woman Power as the 2 women of the group are the real decisions makers ;-)

The founder is Ira a local eco social entrepreneur woman from Jogja born in Papua. She can share her nutrition knowledge about healthy life style, local interior design and furniture, her passion about Javanese culture and spirituality, deep meditation and metaphysic, and her love for nature, ocean, animals and sharing with others.

Her husband also living here, is from the alps mountains. Abandoned skis, his passion for avant guard electronic music and his corporate job to retreat to a more stressless, sustainable life. Dedicating himself as the house man, helping, empowering people in needs and protect nature and animals.
Having one of his background in coaching, psychology and mindfulness meditation. Don't hesitate to ask him for advise if needed.

We have our “chef” and “homebody”, who will make you feel homey and cook for you home made tasty healthy meals. She likes to take care of children, so yours will adopt her very quickly. You can learn a lot from her from local cooking and more. She often get the help of her young sister which is also our trainee.

We have our “jack of all trades” who can fix almost everything to make us able to survive into the “wild”. He is also our driver and guide available for pick up/drop off and bringing people around.
He is also the local Javanese man who open the doors to local communities and people, where you will never be able to enter on your own and allow you to enjoy special local activities and experiences.

Last but not least we have our local healer/massage man, specialist of Javanese culture and language, by passion a deep meditation in cave expert and by the side our guide man to the holy caves and surrounding.
He will do is best to fix any unbalanced and stress, avoiding your energy flow properly inside your body.
Applying hundred of years acupressure local traditions technics from level 1 to level 5 of strong pressure. Nobody ever got over 3, ready to give a go and break to number 4 level?

And then we have all the villagers living some km away, coming for the day farming, fishing or working at the beach warungs.
We are not business hotel professional as we come from different fields. Our primary activity is to run our projects and experiments.
