COVID-19 update as of August 27:
Restaurants are to limit their indoor dining capacity to 25 percent. Many restaurants have outdoor seating, but please call in advance to confirm availability. Bars are generally closed, except ones that serve food. Distilleries, breweries and wineries are open, however you must purchase food with beverage. Nightclubs are prohibited from conducting operations.

Indoor gatherings are limited to 25 percent capacity and outdoor gatherings will still be limited to 250 people or less.

Also, Please Take Note:

Guests are unfortunately no longer permitted in the kitchen. This difficult, hopefully temporary, decision was made to prevent cross contamination. In place of the kitchen amenity there will now be Starbucks Via instant coffee (but no coffee maker), a selection of hot teas, creamer and a water cooler providing hot and cold water in the guest bedroom along with a mini fridge and microwave. We also provide masks, disposable utensils/plates/bowls/cups, hand sanitizer and Lysol for guest use while on the premises. Please know that we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe, thanks!

We welcome BIPOC and LGBTQ persons to our property. If you have any questions, please ask!

The schoolhouse was built in the early 1900s. Grades 1 - 8 occupied the four classrooms, with two grades to each of the four classrooms. Many of the old architectural details remain, including the grand staircase, double door foyer entryway, original hardwood pine floors and original millwork. The windows are over 90 inches tall, providing light to all the rooms throughout the day.

Guest comfort is of utmost importance. Unlike other properties, we have purchased linens specifically for guest use and do not use old hand-me-down towels and sheets. All items are selected for comfort and style--no clashing patterns or garish designs here. All beds include premium supportive down pillows (with pillow protectors!) and luxurious down comforters during the winter months. The mattresses are comfortable and not too firm for a great night's rest (they are also covered with protectors). Towels and washcloths are provided. All bedding (including duvet covers) and towels are washed after each guest. You can rest assured that your safety and hygiene are of the utmost importance.

All decor has been hand selected and curated by the host. The Schoolhouse includes an array of unique antiques (hand painted signs, mod electric fireplace, typewriters, games) and features a curated selection of mid-century antique furniture. In addition, old photographs of the school during its operation are displayed around the room along with the owner's paintings and prints in the guest room, kitchen, foyer and bathroom.

This is a unique space -- don't miss your chance to experience such a wonderful rural retreat!

Servicios y zonas comunes
As a guest, you will have access to the downstairs level, which contains your bedroom and guest bathroom. The upstairs and kitchen are private. I only rent out one guest room.

Your private bedroom has a TV connected to Apple TV & Hulu. There is also an outdoor deck for lounging.

Otros aspectos destacables
My bedroom and bathroom are upstairs. The downstairs level is for guests. During private stays the upstairs still remains private but no one else will be at the property.

There is only AC in the guest room. The bathroom does not have AC. The building has very high ceilings and I can only cool a limited amount of space!

The downstairs level has two large rooms (the guest room, the kitchen) and a shared foyer space with the stairway to the upstairs level and the guest bathroom. The last image in the listing shows a floor plan depicting the layout of the space.

The kitchen and the guest bedroom do share a wall and noise does transfer into the guest room from the kitchen. When I am present I do my best to be quiet for guests, although I do use the kitchen to prepare meals and there will be a certain amount of unavoidable noise.

Guests also cross the shared foyer space to use the bathroom. Because this building was set up as a public space and not a residential home, the layout is unconventional. This has never been an issue for the large majority of guests. If you're very uncomfortable with any interaction between host and guest, it might be better for you to book a private stay for only an extra $40 a night!

Please make sure that you read the "policies" section before your stay to make yourself aware of the house rules. Much appreciated in advance!

The schoolhouse is located in a peaceful residential area surrounded by trees and grass. Very calm, quiet and tranquil! As an important note, there are no amenities within walking distance of the property, a short five minute drive will take you to the closest grocery store.

Local Attractions include:
The town of Jim Thorpe featuring shopping, live music at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, restaurants, whitewater rafting, cycling and more! Only a 30 min drive.
