This well sanitized and handsome 1803 farm house is the perfect balance between beautifully fixed up and well lived in. Welcoming, authentic, and whimsical, it is a visit into a simpler time. Set in a field overlooking orchards and berry patches, with mountain views beyond, it is the ideal spot for retreats of any kind, a home base for exploration of southern Vermont, and the opportunity to stay in a family oriented neighborhood of farmers, woodworkers, writers, and artists.

El espacio
This house and land is the homestead of the late Margaret and John MacArthur. A world renowned folk musician and a brilliant science professor, respectively, they devoted their lives to creating a home to raise their children in, and a perfect place to pursue their passions. Instruments, resource books, creativite decor, gardens... these are all integral to the space. The queen bed room is on the main floor, adjacent to the small, charming bathroom, tiled in Mexican tiles.
The other 3 bedrooms are upstairs, (it is cooler upstairs so we keep down comforters on each bed), and share a lovely bath tiled in mexican tiles, with a pink heart shaped bathtub. There is a sit-down, hand held shower for the tub.

The kitchen has a stunning view out to Stratton Mountain from the table. In addition to the regular appliances in the kitchen there is a coffee maker, with coffee and tea provided. There is no microwave. The well water is filtered and fabulous for drinking and cooking.

The house is full of family treasures and heirlooms and we trust they will be respected and well treated.

Although it is well insulated and heated, it is worth having a supply of warm clothes in the colder months- and plan on using fans for sleeping in hot weather, for the house is, after all, well over 200 years old!

Servicios y zonas comunes
There are just a few spaces in the house that are unavailable to tenants: attic, basement, and closets. There is a large back yard with flower gardens and meadows, that is shared with a friendly neighbor who lives in the attached apartment. It is wonderful for picnics, grilling, watching birds, or napping in the shade in a hammock.

Otros aspectos destacables
We are just 20 minutes to Brattleboro, with its art galleries, restaurants, and great shopping. The Marlboro Music Festival and Marlboro College are 10 minutes from our door, and the ski area at Mt Snow is just 35 minutes away.

Great walking, snowshoeing, and cross county skiing is available from the house and there are lakes nearby for kayaking or canoeing. There is a 3 season farm stand just down the road with organic produce available, as well as PYO organic berries.
There are several dogs in the neighborhood- all well behaved and kind.
The house is on a well maintained dirt road, with the occasional passersby. We do recommend AWD for winter travel.

Born and raised in Vermont, I grew up in the MacArthur House. After exploring and adventuring as a young woman I returned to my roots on the family land. I am a Reiki practitioner professionally, and the rest of the time I keep busy growing food and enjoying life on my small homestead, with my animals, gardens, and husband.

The host lives 100 yards up the road, and is usually available for check in, as well as for support and advice about any issues that may come up. The driveway, garage, and yards are shared with the attached apartment, and the tenant there is helpful and friendly. Extended family maintain vegetable gardens, orchards, berry patches and more in the neighborhood, and they are all familiar with the house as well.
