Pearl Bank Apartments (Chinese: 珍珠苑) is a high-rise private residential building on Pearl's Hill in Outram, near Chinatown of Singapore.

Being an urban icon after completion, the Pearl Bank Apartments is a 38-storey hollow ¾ cylindrical tower, resembling a horseshoe. When completed in 1976, it was the tallest residential building in Singapore with unrestricted panoramic views of the city skyline.

The 272-unit apartment block comprises three types of split-level units with eight units to each floor — and an additional eight penthouses. There is a shopping area with seven units on the first storey, and the building has a four-storey carpark. The 28th storey is devoted for community use, known as the "Sky Park".

The effect of the split-level architectural approach in the spatial planning is expressed as an important facet of the building. Each apartment unit is further zoned into "public" and "private" areas to offer maximum exclusivity and views to the occupants. The utilities and service areas are located at the rear of the apartments, overlooking the building's central courtyard, to avoid any obstruction of the view. The opening in the circular structure faces west and minimises direct penetration of heat and light from the afternoon sun into the building. The slits in the circula slab also allow for effective ventilation into the internal courtyard, ensuring cool breeze throughout the day.

The room available as shown in the pictures is the main master bedroom. This master bedroom has its own private bathroom, airy and spacious. The apartment is fully furnished with a spacious living/resting area as well as a fully-equipped kitchen for your daily needs. Situated on the higher floors, this apartment offers an excellent unrestricted panoramic view of the city skyline, both in the day and night.

The apartment is literally next to the Outram MRT station which will be able to connect you to all parts of Singapore. It is a 5-min walk to Chinatown and all the shopping malls and food outlets. The financial district is only 1 station stop away and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Casino is 10mins away.
This apartment offers a tranquil and peaceful environment for your stay to rejuvenate, whether it is for holiday or work.

Jason is a fantastic host and helped getting settled in Singapore. The apartment is in a relatively old, but impressive building on the 22nd floor, with a stunning view over Singapore. Other tenants are living there too, but personal interactions are rare, as they are all working as well. The room is extremely quiet and clean. The location of the apartment is just perfect for anyone who wants to be close to the CBD (15min walk). The building is right next to Chinatown, an area with lots of old buildings and charm. Public transit connections are terrific, with a bus and MRT stop right in front of the building. The MRT line directly connects to Changi Airport – thus, if you're a frequent traveller, the location is perfect.

Pros: iconic 1970s building, flexible check in, great host communication, park next to the apartment is quiet and good for morning workouts, China Town is on your doorstep, views from room are good, wifi is fast, mattress is firm Cons: tough walk up to the hill located apartment which means you are probably going to take taxis or sweat , the room furniture is very out dated and basic, blanket for bed was not satisfactory.

They don't make apartment buildings like Pearl Bank any more. At least, in my experience, not in Singapore. The split-level apartment is huge and the master bedroom as big as some entire apartments I've stayed in in Asia. I loved the hard wood floor, the view and the retro style of Pearl Bank itself, something of a landmark in the area. Yes, the building is showing its age, but it's a unique piece of architecture and for that I'm willing to look past a bit of wear and tear. (When the wind blows, it does make quite a noise by rattling the windows.) Some complained about the walk up the hill from Outram MRT. I agree it's a bit annoying to have to take a detour because of the construction works - in fact I preferred the steps up from Pearl Bank Terrace which get you to Chinatown MRT. But Singapore is hot and sticky at times, unfortunately. I felt that was par for the course. It's possible to call for a taxi or Uber if you don't feel like getting sweaty. I was in Singapore on a business trip and spent most of the week working at the desk in the room, which was comfortable. I enjoyed walking down into Chinatown for lunch at a hawker. I met two of the other residents of the apartment briefly. My impression is that residents tend to keep to themselves, which was fine by me. I used the washing machine for laundry and the microwave for cooking and all worked fine. If I could make one suggestion to the host it would be to furnish the room and the shared spaces with some nicer furniture or decor. It's a big space and I feel more could be done with it. Some of the furniture in the master bedroom was a bit shabby. However I would certainly stay here again. I enjoyed my time there.

This is my second stay with Jason and Grayce, in the same room. Everything that I mentioned in my first review still applies. I would just like to confirm that there were blankets in the room. Also, I can agree that the walk up the stairs can be a little bit strenuous, but there is always the option of going through the parking exit (Jason and Grayce would show you this alternative). However, I should add that I have seen dozens of people, of all age categories, doing this walk up, in all kinds of weather. Finally, a lot of the rooms for rent in Singapore will not offer you the same level of privacy. I think this is another plus for Jason and Grayce's room.

The accommodations were fine. Nothing spectacular, but the building is very old. Location is pretty good too but the MRT is under construction so you have to walk all the way around the construction site to get to the Outram MRT. Takes a few minute and it's a good size hill, you'll always be a little sweaty when you get home. You're also very close to China town, but you have to hike up and down the big hill the building sits on (my iPhone measured it at 4-6 flights of stairs) to get to and from anywhere. None of this was a big deal for me, but my GF came out mid trip and it was a bit much for her, know what you're signing up for. Jason is a very easy host to communicate with and the stay was very cheap for the long duration I was there. The Chinatown hawker centers at the foot of the hill are awesome as well. Honestly, I'd have done almost all my meals there instead of branching out around Singapore if I cloud go back! Thanks for the easy stay Jason!
