Windchimes is a gorgeous cottage converted in style from an original hayloft. Next to our home, in pretty shared gardens, it's quietly located in a lovely part of Torquay. Walking distance of beaches, harbour, pubs, restaurants & attractions.

Wind Chimes is a gorgeous cottage converted in style from an original hayloft. Adjacent to the owners' home, this upmarket cottage has a smart kitchen living dining area and shower room. The amazingly romantic bedroom on the mezzanine floor is accessed by open tread steps, and comes complete with quality linens. Please note the bedroom has a low sloping roof, so may not suit those who are tall. Set in pretty communal gardens the cottage is within walking distance of beaches, coastal paths, the harbour, restaurants, pubs, wine bars, tourist attractions and shops. It's a great place for honeymoons, a sight seeing holiday, a walking break or simply a week by the sea. "Wind Chimes is a fantastic place to come back to after a day out" is a comment made by many visitors.

What's inside?

Living area: Two seater Chesterfield sofa; Digital TV with Freeview and DVD player; Digital radio with Ipod dock; Books, marble chess set etc. Kitchen area: Combination microwave oven & grill; 2 ring electric hob; fridge; Sink; crockery etc. Shower room: with radiator, shower, basin and WC. First floor: accessed by open tread stairs: Mezzanine floor with very romantic double bedroom with high quality linen; digital radio; bedside lamps; storage. Free WIFI.

Windchimes is a self catering cottage, with everything you need for a lovely break You only share the communal gardens with the owners who live next door. The pagoda area, together with table and chairs, are just for you. Two lovely steamer chairs are yours to soak up the sunshine whilst reading a book or enjoying a glass of wine or refreshing cup of tea.

We are keen gardeners and can often be seen pottering about the garden. We are happy to chat or leave you to relax, as you wish.

Wellswood is a lovely upmarket and leafy part of Torquay. Although quietly situated, it is within walking distance of local shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, the harbour, beaches and local attractions.

Plenty of free car parking is available on the road, but you don't really need a car to get around. A bus stop is at the end of the road for trips out to Totnes, Exeter, Brixham and beyond. The train station is a short bus away and you can take the boat from the harbour to Brixham and Dartmoor.

There are lots of local attractions to enjoy: Coastal and woodside walks; Kents Cavern; Living Coasts, Bygones, Torquay Museum to name but a few. A little further away is the holiday home of Agatha Christie at Greenaway, and other National Trust properties, as well as Paignton Zoo and many local villages.

Please note that Windchimes Hayloft, is not suitable for those with mobility problems due to several steps down to the property, and open tread steps up to the romantic mezzanine bedroom - within the cottage itself. Please note children and pets are not permitted under any circumstances. The cottage is for two adults only. The cottage is self contained, and located right next to our home. Please do not invite others to the cottage or gardens during your stay. Thank You.

Guests have access to the pretty communal gardens, and can relax on the steamer chairs, or enjoy a glass of wine or cup of the in the Pagoda on hot summer days.

Windchimes Hayloft is right next to our home, and you will be sharing the garden with us. We are very friendly and are usually happy to stop and chat. Also we're keen gardeners, and can be seen pottering about the garden. We're happy to offer advice and suggestions on things to do / places to visit, and ideas for eating out.

Windchimes Hayloft is located in the Wellswood are of Torquay. We love the fact that there are so many coastal and local walks, straight from the door. The neighbourhood is leafy and upmarket, and there are a range of local shops less than five minutes away in Wellswood "Village." You can walk to town in around 10 - 15 minutes

You can get the bus from the end of the road - less than a five minute walk away - to town, Brixham, Totnes, Shaldon, Teignmouth, Dartmouth, Exeter and lots more. Torquay train station is a short bus or taxi ride away - or you can take a leisurely stroll along the sea front to get there.

Windchimes Hayloft is quirky, cosy and truly characterful. There is a beam, and low headroom in places in the mezzanine bedroom, so if you are very tall it may not be the place for you. A narrow open tread staircase leads up to the bedroom, so it's unsuited to those with mobility problems.

Small, but cosy house in a beautiful garden. Nice neighborhood in walking or bus distance to the city center. Shops, cafees, pubs in Wellswood only minutes away. Great, friendly and helpful hosts. Recommend

Great stay in this cottage over Easter- just as described Jacquie and Kevin were great hosts. The hayloft suited us and was as described and shown in the photos. We had a couple of meals in with no problem. There are options for eating / drinking out - we both really liked the local wine bar Wellies. Plenty to do out and about we went on the ferry to Brixham and had a good walk around Berry Head which we would recommend.

Das Cottage ist sehr schön und ausgestattet mit allem was man braucht. Jacquie und ihr Mann sind sehr nette Gastgeber. Das Wetter war so herrlich gut, dass wir den besten Eindruck von Torquay bekommen haben.

We had an absolutely lovely time at Windchimes! There was a bottle of wine and some homemade muffiins waiting for us on our arrival which was a lovely touch. The bed was extremely comfortable (do mind your head on the ceiling though!) and the little wardrobe perfect for keeping everything tidy. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. The bathroom has a nice big shower and Penhaligon's soap and shower gel as well as massive fluffy towels and two cosy dressing gowns. The sitting room had everything you need if you wanted to stay in and although the sofa looked small in the photos, it was actually perfectly fine and comfortable for two people. There were plenty of leaflets about the local area, but Jacqui and Kevin were very helpful with their suggestions. The garden (which we used) is lovely and a real haven of tranquillity. The area where the house is is lovely and quiet so you really feel like you are away from it all. We went several times to a very friendly vintage teashop called Ilshams which did lovely breakfasts and lunches for a brilliant price. Jacqui and Kevin are excellent hosts and strike the right balance of being friendly, but not intrusive. We'd definitely recommend them and we'd definitely go back.

Lovely stay at Windchimes. Although small in space, the conversion has been done well and has everything you need, including TV, music player and wifi. The kitchen is well equipped and efficient shower. Location is good, within 15 minutes walk of the sea front or you can get a bus. We enjoyed being self-contained rather than in a b&b. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed chatting with them sitting out in their beautiful garden in the sunshine. We have no hesitation in recommending unless you have mobility issues for the steps to the mezzanine.

Jacquie welcomed us with muffins and a smile. We found the little cottage right away,no problems with that.

Dear Marianne; Thank you very much for your response. We really enjoyed meeting you and Julia. Windchimes hayloft is self catering so guests are expected to arrange their own provisions. We do provide muffins which are homemade by me, and a bottle of Cava - which are both usually well received - as welcome gifts. We also put some milk in the fridge and some tea bags in a caddy (and normally some sugar sachets too) so that visitors can make themselves a hot drink on arrival. Our rates are very competitive, for what is a one off cosy and quirky character cottage, and we love welcoming visitors such as yourselves. Thanks again for choosing Windchimes Hayloft. It really was lovely to meet you both. All the best. Jacquie

Jacquie was very welcoming and the cottage is extremely cute and well maintained. A lovely touch was the bottle of Cava and muffins that were left for us (thank you!). The bed is very comfortable; however, it's worth bearing in mind that this might not be the place for you if you're tall, as the ceiling is very low upstairs (I'm 5ft'10 and my head touched the ceiling). The stairs to the bedroom are also quite tricky and you need to be very careful not to bash your head (we did a few times). The cottage is lovely and it's in a very discreet and pretty garden within a great location (walking distance to the coastal path and into the town). Jacquie kindly agreed for us to check out one hour later (11am), but we did feel check-in was a little bit late for us at 4pm (and that regular check out would have been too early), as we arrived in Torquay at 1.30pm on the train and had to take our bags around with us for a few hours before check in (to be fair, it does say check in times on ad, I just hadn't checked this in advance). Our only other slight disappointment was that we were unable to leave our bags anywhere on the check out day to allow us to walk to the beach before our train home; Jacquie wasn't willing to keep them anywhere for us (we wouldn't have minded even leaving them in a shed or similar). However, overall a lovely place to stay and definitely value for money.

Respuesta de Jacquie:
Dear Skye; thank you for review. Windchimes Hayloft is indeed a quirky and cosy place. The sloping roof on the mezzanine floor which is low in places is typical of the age and character of what is a converted hayloft. There are many pictures on our ad - including ones that show the sloping nature of the roof over the mezzanine bedroom. Perhaps you did not see them? Our check in and check out times are clearly stated so potential visitors can decide whether this suits them before they book. We need time to prepare the cottage for visitors, and like to present it to a high standard. I can only repeat that check in and check out times are clearly stated. We are not a hotel. Windchimes is self catering and there is nowhere to leave your bags - apart from in our house. This is not possible if we are going out, as we were the morning you left. How would you get them back in a timely fashion? We do ask visitors to respect our property and to Windchimes in a good state, so I was very saddened to find the cottage in a bit of a state after your departure: unwashed items, cushions etc tossed on the floor, bins not emptied etc. Windchimes, like many Airbnb places is a one off - and not a hotel room. I am glad that you found Windchimes a lovely place to stay, but given your demands and wishes perhaps a hotel may have been more suited to your needs. All the best. Jacquie
