Información sobre este anuncio

Combining history with modern amenities, this beautifully restored loghouse occupies 156 acres on Hastings Lake. Offering tranquillity in a natural setting, this heritage site is a short 45 minute drive to Edmonton. Experience a real pioneer home!

El alojamiento

Stay in one of the oldest homes in Strathcona County. This is your chance to experience an early pioneer home without sacrificing modern amenities. While maintaining the original character of the loghouse, newer additions have included a full kitchen, heated floors, bathroom and laundry facilities. While the loghouse provides lots of space in which guests can relax and enjoy their stay, the layout for the bedrooms is unique. There is a loft bedroom with a queen bed that has a full staircase leading up to this bedroom. The sleeping nook has a single bed with privacy curtains and is located on the main floor and close to the bathroom. In the living room, a sofabed pulls out into a double bed. In addition to the above sleeping arrangements, a small cabin adjoining the loghouse called the Lazy S has a queen bed with its own private porch. There are no bathroom facilities in the Lazy S; however, it is a short walk to the facilities in the loghouse.
In addition to the loghouse, the property also features many historical items including an old bunkhouse, a Swiss-style logbarn, antique farm machinery and an old boat once used for a tourist camp on Cooking Lake in the 1930's. Kilometres of trails throughout the property introduce you to the native flora and fauna in this area. As a wildlife preserve, the property has been maintained in its natural state. Situated on the shores of Hastings Lake, there is access for canoe and kayak enthusiasts. Spend the day paddling on the lake and exploring the many islands of Hastings Lake that are protected as Bird Sanctuaries. Our property also boasts a 70 acre Ducks Unlimited Conservation Area. If you are looking for a peaceful location in which to enjoy nature, this is the place for you.

This was our fourth visit, so the love we have for the place should be obvious. There is something so peaceful, and so special about this amazing little gem. If your usual preference is the sterility and sameness of chain hotels (water slides and continental breakfasts), and if being without WiFi is something that you just can't imagine, then maybe Maggie's Hill might not be for you. But if you're willing to step outside your comfort zone, and experience nature, and the joy that comes from connecting with those you love, rather than connecting to the internet, you'd be in for a treat at Maggie's Hill. Sometimes, when there's "nothing to do" (i.e. internet and TV), you'll find endless possibilities with "so much to do". We love the log house and will be back as many times as Martha will have us.

Martha is the perfect host. She met us earlier than our agreed upon time & gave us a lovely historical tour of the property. The space is absolutely dreamy. It's well laid out & spacious for the six people in our group. The decor is quaint & cozy & makes you feel nostalgic for days gone by. Thank you Martha for caring for this magical historic site.

This place is magical! The house is both cozy and spacious, and very clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Also as others have mentioned - much larger than you'd expect. Including a huge screened in family room not included in the pictures. The grounds are peaceful and secluded with nothing but the sounds of nature and (very distant) trains. Great walking trails and only 35 mins from central Edmonton. The kitchen has all the appliances and counter space you could ask for and there are nice historic and decorative touches everywhere. Most importantly, Martha and her husband were wonderful to coordinate with and we felt well cared for and cared about from booking to check out. I highly recommend Maggie's Hill Heritage Loghouse and we'll certainly be back!

We loved Maggie's the history with the cottage is amazing and Martha tells it well. The trails that we had a chance to walk were beautiful. We so enjoyed the wood stove that was my highlite , my 15 year old puppy and I loved it cuddled on a blanket infont of it almost the whole time. Thank You again we absolutly loved our time at Maggie's Hill Heritage Loghouse. Tammy & Troy from St Albert Alberta

I enjoy spending time in the outdoors including hiking, biking and horseback riding. I value heritage and have enjoyed a career in museum management. Personally, my husband and I have owned historical properties that we have strived to restore back to their original character. We love to travel, explore new places and meet new people. Fulfilling one of our goals, over the years we have taken our four children on camping trips across Canada travelling as far north, west, south and east as possible in a truck with an old canvas tent. We loved our journeys together as a family and we look forward to meeting you and hearing about your journeys.
