Sneem Events:
Keep your eye out for the Sneem Newsletter which is free but copies are snapped up quickly. Ask in the local businesses for a copy or download it online from Sneem dot ie website.

Local Attractions:
Sacre Coeur restaurant is located at the Waterville end of the town and run by Patricia & Johnny O’Sullivan.
D. O’Shea’s pub (the pink one) is great for informal visit and the food is always excellent with different specials each day until 9pm. It is recommend to ring a couple of hours ahead to book a table.

Good spots for brunch are The Riverside and The Village Cafés both beside the bridge.

Pubs: Five in total and all have different appeals. Music usually rotates through the pubs on different nights.

Grocery Shopping:
In Sneem there are two small convenience stores at either end of the village (MACE & DJ O'Sullivans. There are also two respected butchers in North Square. Larger trolley shopping should be done in either Kenmare (Supervalu, Aldi or Lidl) or Killarney (Tesco’s etc.)

Attractions & Activities:
You can find details on the Amazing Beaches, Skellig Islands, Driving & Biking Routes and Dark Sky Star gazing at www.alaind.ie/attractions-sneem.html . Naturally being surrounded by mountains and coastline there’s plenty of choice. If you are a serious walker you may have done your own research. If you like casual, family walks that take only a few hours I would recommend the trails detailed on our website at www.alaind.ie

Both the Fermoyle and Lomanagh Loop walks start from the Sportsfield Road i.e. the road from Sneem to our house. They are signposted all the way along the loop. They can be done in a few hours and are not too strenuous.

Parknasilla Hotel Walks: The hotel is a great place for an afternoon snack to enjoy the stunning views. Bring a set of binoculars and you may be able to see the many seals on the adjacent seal island. After this you can explore the grounds. Walks off to the left of the main approach to the hotel lead past the tennis courts to the golf course. These extensive trails are renowned for their semi-tropical environment due to the mild climate. Behind the hotel itself are a number of fantastic island tree covered walks (10 min each) which are great fun for the family.

Sneem to Parknasilla Mountain Walk (via The Mueller Family’s Gallery and artists’ studios). Follow the small road behind the pharmacy in Sneem. This is another beautiful walk but not looped, so you might want to finish in Parknasilla and arrange for a taxi back from the hotel to Sneem, rather than walk 2m back along the main road.

Bicycle Hire: Bicycles can be hired from M. Burns’s shop in the North Square of the village.

Some of the best other attractions in South West Kerry can be found at Álaind website . A trip to Skelligs (weather permitting and from 12th May for summer months) – scene of the most recent star wars movie and World Heritage site. This involves a 20 min open sea boat trip, from Derrynane, Ballinskelligs and Portmagee - Google. Advanced booking essential.

Ring of Kerry Drive (3 hours). Plenty of beaches and stunning coastal scenery.
Killarney and Kenmare are both worth spending time in. Kenmare in particular is renowned for its food. If travelling from Kenmare to Sneem check out the boathouse restaurant or the view of Kenmare Bay from the Clubhouse Bar at The Ring of Kerry Golf Club. The Black Valley, Lady’s View and Torc Waterfall are worth exploring.

You can charter a local boat around Sneem and Kenmare Bay to see seals and dolphins – ask locally for contact details.

I divide my time between Dublin and Sneem. I love the outdoor life and Sneem offers some of the best scenery in Kerry and Ireland. Our cottage is perfect for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way, surrounded by the McGillycuddy Reeks mountains, in walking distance to the sea and The Kerry Way - Ireland's longest and most spectacular waymarked trail. It's not possible for me to always meet my guests but don't worry our local host is close by to ensure you have a sweet, relaxing and memorable stay.
