Unique rustic loft in early 19th century townhouse in the heart of town, by the steps of a beautiful 11th century church. Quiet (except for the occasional church bells), light, with authentic historical atmosphere. Three minutes walk to supermarket, cafes, restaurants. Large double room with sleeping platform, kitchenette/day room, plus eating table/study space. Lenny the cat will probably want to visit you. Owner lives on the same property.

El espacio
The loft is on the 4th floor of the building so guests must be able to climb four flights of stairs. The space is completely self-contained, however the access is the stairs of a private residence. There is a review that mentions the lack of a full wall between the loft and the rest of the property, but there have been renovations since then and the space is now separated and sound-proofed from the rest of the house. These are converted attic spaces, so watch your head!

¿Dónde me voy a quedar?

Parthenay, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Francia

The Saint-Laurent church s an emblematic monument of Parthenay. It has the tallest steeple in the Deux-Sevres visible for miles around. The church has dominated the town for over a thousand years, undergoing numerous transformations over the centuries. Of the original 11th church, only the sculptures on the facade remains. The porch tower was replaced by a steeple in 1870. The church contains three beautiful Gothic bays. The stained glass windows of the apse date from the 15th century. Currently, the church is the subject of extensive interior restoration works. In the third century AD, Saint Laurent (Lawrence) was made deacon under Pope Sixtus II, and as such was in charge of the treasury. Emperor Valerian, during a purge of the Christian hierarchy had pope Sixtus killed and demanded that Saint Laurent hand over the treasures of the church. St Lawrence asked for three days during which he distributed the Church's property to the poor. On the third day, he presented himself to the prefect of Rome accompanied by the poor, widows, orphans, and the disabled, and declared that these were the true treasures of the Church. This act of defiance led directly to his martyrdom. He is the patron saint of firefighters, cooks, wine makers, archivists, comedians, and of course, the poor. Saint Laurent's feast day is August 10. Since this day often coincides with the Perseid meteor shower, this shower is known as "the tears of Saint Laurent".

I am English by birth but international by nature. I have lived in California, India, and now France. I am also a writer and love to collect stories about traveling and voyages of discovery. My favourite city in the world is Varanasi on the river Ganges. I love to cook, especially to learn new French recipes, I enjoy good wine, and meeting new people, always believing that everyone is a storyteller at heart! I am a teacher of yoga and have recently started teaching English professionally. My music taste is very eclectic, everything from Buena Vista Social Club to David Bowie. I adore my hometown of Parthenay and wish to share it with the kind of people who can understand how special it is.
