The Creekside Cabin was fabulous for us. It was the feeling of a isolated Alaskan cabin next to a lovely creek, set in the bush, which is what my husband wanted. It was so lovely and quiet. And better yet, for me the wife it had a nice bathroom with hot shower, toilet and a full nice kitchen. It really had more than listed. Dishes, glasses, pots, paper towels, all kinds of kitchen utensils, a nice full refrigerator, very hot water, and lots of blankets, but the cabin was quite warm, so we didn't need them when we were there. Even though it seemed isolated, it was really only a few minutes from Homer town. For us, the best of both worlds. Deck chairs were provided, so each day after doing our activities we sat on the deck, relaxed and BBQed our dinner on the outside grill. Yes, it is a cabin with some stairs, but it was loaded with many extras, was very private and we loved it. Thank you Dorothy for making our Alaskan stay feel so nice.

Review for Homer Creekside Cabin We just spent two relaxing weeks at this very private cabin just outside of Homer city limits. Dorothy was very responsive via text and email, and she went out of her way to be helpful to us. Her directions were very precise, and we had no trouble finding the cabin. (The road to her cabin from Meadow St. is VERY bumpy, and full of potholes.) The cabin is rustic, but has nearly everything you need for a comfortable stay. If you are not used to being isolated, it might be intimidating; however, we found it very quiet and peaceful, even with the float planes and nearby airport. The cabin's location is great for taking advantage of Homer's delights. The setting and creek are lovely, and the deck is huge! In fairness to all, there are a few things we felt important enough to point out: 1. This is not a place for anyone with mobility issues, or for toddlers. None of the stairs (inside or out), nor the deck, have railings, and can be slippery when wet. Also, it is a bit of a walk from where you park your car to the cabin. (through grass, and over a bridge with only one railing.) 2. Most of the vegetation around the house is giant cow parsley/giant hogweed, the sap of which can cause phytophotodermatitis in humans. 3. The openable windows lack screens (or have holes in screens if they are present), and don't open and close easily. 4. The Internet was quite spotty and slow for us, although other reviewers have said it was fine for them. 5. There is no microwave. Cooking utensils are ok; however there is no large mixing/salad bowl or colander. (Lots of glasses, but dinnerware for only four.) 6. Furniture is sparse: Other than the counter, there is no dining/kitchen table, and only the futon, 2 camp chairs, & 3 stools for seating. 7. The bed in the loft (nice treetop and mountain views) is comfortable All in all, we had a good time, and would recommend this place to couples, and small families with not too young kids. It isn't luxurious, but it is quite comfy and fairly reasonably priced for what we paid ($100/night There's a lot to see and do in Homer. Be sure to do some hikes up in the hills and across the Bay. Dorothy has a lot of brochures to check out. She also has some great books upstairs on Alaskan animals and vegetation. Also, see what's playing at the Pier 1 Theater, Alice's, etc., AK Fish and Wildlife's Islands and Oceans building has some very good exhibits and short nature trails, the Pratt Museum is always interesting, the Center for Coastal Studies has lots going on, and there are lots of great art galleries. The Sat. morning Farmers' Market is fun too. There are 2 breweries to check out, as well as the Bear Creek winery. Rent kayaks... Lots to see and do.

Thank you Nancy, it was great to meet you and host you and your husband. A few notes for future guests: I definitely do screen for those that might have a hard time with stairs and walking on uneven surfaces, and have, and will continue to, declined guests based on those factors. That being said, it is a Homer “cabin”, as advertised. The driveway is about 200 feet from the steps to the deck, through the yard, past the greenhouse and fire pit, and over the bridge. Most of the vegetation around the cabin is *not* cow parsnip/pushki. Yes, there is some (as any Homer property will have), but guests are not required to bushwhack through it or even touch it to enjoy the property. As guests will appreciate when visiting, the property contains a very diverse flora, including spruce trees, birch, elderberry, alder, raspberries, watermelon berries, currants, goat’s beard, yarrow, ferns, and grasses, etc. If kids or the young at heart do feel like exploring off the beaten path, on my property or beyond, please be aware of what cow parsnip looks like, as well as the notorious stinging nettles that are found all around Homer. No poison ivy/oak/sumac here though!

Cabin is not fancy but just what we needed for our trip to Homer. Dorothy was a very thoughtful hostess; directions were perfect and she checked to make sure we arrived safely.

We really enjoyed staying at Dorothy's cabin. It had what we needed and Dorothy kept it warm and toasty for us (since the weather was rather rainy and cold). If you are looking for a very quiet place to relax and enjoy yourself after a day's full of activities, the cabin is the place. It feels rustic and 'isolated' because it is surrounded by trees and bushes, next to a small creek but its location is a stone's throw from other homes/businesses/Homer. We did not have any problem driving on the short dirt road to and from the cabin back to the paved road. We had good communication with Dorothy regarding driving directions, things to do in Homer, checking in time and whatever else we might need. Unfortunately, we did not see the moose nor the porcupines.....

Staying in Dorothy's cabin was delightful. The home is off the beaten path but it also very accessible. It was nice to spend a few days in a quiet cabin and to escape the hustle and bustle of town as well as city life. The cabin was a perfect size for 3 of us. Dorothy was also very easy to reach in case of anything. Since we arrived in town late, she recommended some places to eat that were still open. Thanks again!

My now husband and I stayed in this cute cabin for the week of our destination wedding in Homer. We had two other people staying with us and the cabin was perfect. We are from Ohio and had no idea about the area. Dorothy was very easy to contact and very accommodating. We all loved the fire pit and the big deck for star gazing. The morning of my wedding I sat on the deck steps to write my vows. You can hear the running water from the creek that goes through the property. It was so peaceful. Thank you Dorothy! We hope to visit again for one of our anniversaries!
