Built in the 1940's as a plantation home, its history, vintage aesthetic, along with the whimsical, unsymmetrical, but fascinating interior structure has captured much attention and interests from friends, family, and former guests, who have enjoyed their stay. One of the best feature that many can be enjoyed, is relaxing under our very own plumeria tree, while taking in the beautiful and expansive view of the Iao Mountains.

We had a nice stay at Austins place. The room is very basic but good value for money. Austin was very helpful and the communication was awesome.

Austin's place is very cozy and welcoming! The bathroom is just amazing, it has a relaxed beachy vibe, it was my favourite part. The atmosphere in both the room and bathroom puts you in the hawaiian mood right away. Loved it!

First, the house is very dirty. The ants crawl in the bed and there are carpets that do not know when they have been washed, and dust all over the house. The lack of a hair dryer was inconvenient. Bathroom is very dirty around. There were always other people's laundry piled up in…

This is a great example on how the language barrier becomes an issue. I did not expect this because it in no way represents the tone of her messages; I thought she had a good visit with us. If anything I was a bit appalled at her lack of respect and delusions of grandeur. None of this was brought to my attention and I feel I accurately describe the property and it's character. I go above and beyond to insure my guests are informed about the property and are given clear and concise directions, maps, and verbal confirmations.  As a host I always make sure to follow up with guests to make sure they understand the basics..i.e. where to park, where to enter the property, where they can and can't go.  Obviously she and her traveling partner could either care less or cannot comprehend simple directions. For instance a map is a map and arrows are arrows yet on their first night they didn't want to drive about 30 ft. to park there vehicle so "lets just park in the middle of the street and block access for everyone". Yeah.. they just left their rental car in the road blocking the driveway so none of my guests or renters could leave the premises. Who does that? And this was after she was apparently upset she did not have the access she felt she was entitled to. She attempted to open every door in the house and if she couldn't get in, she pushed her shoulder up aggressively as to try and dislodge the door snd  gain access. The next morning I had reports of someone attempting to break in to their room. Not once but twice over a 12 hour period. The map provided clearly shows these doors are for other peoples living quarters yet she completely ignored my instructions and forcefully tried to enter. Thankfully the guests still left great reviews. Our house, where I have mentioned in the listing, was built in the 1940s, so not everything is completely up to date. Our fuse box is known to trip when high powered items such as a hair dryer. But because I strive on being a very good host, I told her that if I found one I would allow her to use it. My budget friendly property doesn't have some of the amenities of the $800+ /night 5 star resorts. Any seasoned traveler would know to bring such item's with them and not assume we would have a blow drier and definitely not get upset when we did not. I do the best I can and I think most people would agree having some snacks laying around after a long and daunting flight is a nice touch. Another issue she had was some of are other guests who had booked a room with us for over a week wanted to do some laundry after all the activities they were doing left them with few things to wear. I don't mind if my guests want to do a load or two, but when she stayed with us for 3 days and wanted to do her whole wardrobe(again who does that?) She then demanded that I solve the issue by telling the other guests to remove their laundry so that she can wash her clothes instead. If it were me in that situation I would have just waited and respect the guests who were staying much longer to finish, but apparently that wasn't acceptable to her. I even made sure that I provided her with enough fans to eliminate the humidity in the room. This is just one of the luxuries of living on a tropical island and staying in an affordable, older, Hawaiian plantation house. Occasionally, we have little critters and ants show up when they smell something left out and not sealed. Maybe if you kept your food in your mouth and not on the floor and unsealed, you wouldn't have had those unexpected visitors. Food for thought, no pun intended. In conclusion the sad and unfortunate truth is I am left with this negative feedback when after all this time until now I thought that I was able to satisfy this guest. I even made it a point not to bring up what a difficult and disrespectful guest she and her travel partner were being it was there first review with airbnb. For any hosts out there that may come across her review, unless you speak the language, please understand the difficulty that you will have with this guest and the demands needed to accommodate to their customs. For any guests that read my response to her exaggerated negative review, and feel sympathy for her and what she had to endure, the Four Seasons Resort is a 10 minute drive from here. At $1,200 per night you are more than welcome to book with them or any of our five star hotels on island. I do not intend to discriminate towards other races or their way of life, my prices are less then the hostels on island. I truly enjoy opening my house to anyone all over the world. But my house is only open to guests who want experience the lifestyle of locals and the nostalgic of the property and embrace it. And I apologize June, for not meeting all of your demands to your satisfaction and I can't read minds yet but maybe airbnb isn't for you (Website hidden by Airbnb)

This is the perfect place for the budget savvy traveler. There are many reasons why staying here makes sense! 1. Location- you’re close to all highways and can get to many popular spots within 20 minutes 2. Convenience- there’s nothing you can’t run out and buy. We didn’t bother …
