Lovely house located in the pristine hilltop village of Piegaro just three minutes’ walk from restaurants, bars and shops. Casa del Sole is a spacious, private home with large, secluded garden and wonderful panoramic views from every single room.

Casa del Sole (sonamed for its luminous views from every room). has 2 large bedrooms both with double bed (one with ensuite bathroom). There is a second bathroom and laundry area, a large fully equipped kitchen connected by an arch to a spacious dining room and adjacent living room with double sofabed. The property comfortably sleeps 4 people, or up to 6 if sofabed is used. You reach it from street level by half a flight of stairs.

When I was looking to buy, this property stood out immediately because of its spaciousness, the wonderful views and the light which comes into the house even in winter. It is also virtually unique in Piegaro or most medieval villages in having its own enclosed garden – and with a graceful mature olive tree in it to boot! The ideal spot for sipping your prosecco as you watch the changing evening light at sunset.

When you sit at the kitchen table preparing your dinner, the light pours through the dining room window and washes the entire space. I also love the wooden beams in both dining and living room and the fact my house is built into the substantial medieval walls, which are so thick that despite all the sunlight, it is never too hot in the house in summer and never really cold during the winter.

In my experience, some rental properties only have basic equipment but because I live in it part of the year myself, Casa del Sole is full of the creature comforts you'd expect of a home from home and is also graced with attractive antique furniture, unusual wall hangings and elegant pictures.

Fully equipped kitchen with large fridge/freezer, all pots, pans, kitchen utensils, double sink, dishwasher, large dining/prepping table seating 6. Bedlinen, towels and cleaning (once a week) included. Washing machine. Booklet with information on surroundings, suggested places to visit etc.

Either myself or one of my Engiish soeaking friends from the village will greet you and show you the ropes. We will be on hand throughout your stay to assist you and to make suggestions.

Piegaro has it all - medieval charm and good facilities (2 restaurants, 2 bars/cafés, grocer's, butcher's, 2 hairdressers, pharmacy, post office). There is also a small weekly market selling fruit, veg, cheese, clothes and sometimes fish both (sea and freshwater). Parking is in the main piazza which is 2 minutes' walk to the house.

Piegaro is a very lively village, hosting special events around the major religious festivals and its very own chestnut sagra (food festival) in October. All year round, you can try your hand at cooking authentic dishes under the expert guidance of a local chef. Whatever you decide to do in and around the village, the wonderfully friendly people of Piegaro will welcome you with open arms, as they did me.

Piegaro iies in a very picturesque location within easy access of Perugia, Florence and Rome, thus making it an attractive detination to get to by air or train. Many of Umbria's and Tuscany's top destinations are within easy driving distance, as well as some lesser known gems. Visit Lake Trasimeno, the Assisi of St Francis, Perugia with its splendid art gallery and designer and outlet shops, Deruta with its attractive ceramics, the medieval towns and villages of Orvieto, Gubbio, Spello and Panicale. This area also has some outstanding wineries, olive oil and cheese producers, many of whom offer free tastings.

In Tuscany, explore Cortona, of Under the Tuscan Sun fame, the wine growing region of Montepulciano. Visit Siena, famous for the Palio (the legendary bareback horse race which takes place in its scallop-shaped main square) and the stunningly beautiful Val d'Orcia with its gently undulating hills and lovely towns such as Pienza. We can arrange riding lessons. Suggested itineraries and activities are summarised in a booklet at the property.

Car recommended. Parking in nearby piazza (2 minutes' walk). Adequate public transport to Perugia by bus. Nearest station is Chiusi-Chianciano (15 kms) which is only about 90 minutes from Florence and Rome, with frequent train service (transport to and from station can be arranged). Nearest airport: Perugia (30 kms); alternatively, Florence and Rome airports and then train to Chiusi.

The apartment in Piegaro is lovely and roomy with windows overlooking the countryside below the medieval town. It's two bedrooms are both spacious and comfortable. We very much enjoyed our family stay there - we used the tiny but gorgeous town of Piegaro as a stepping stone to Umbria and Tuscany including day trips to Assisi, Montepulciano and more. We enjoyed the village restaurant with its open fire and the little stores where we could buy local cheese, bread, prosciutto etc. We loved it and it was a lovely break between larger city stops. Enjoy your stay in Piegaro!

I am British-born from London and studied languages at the University of Bristol. I have had the fortune to spend most of my professional life indulging my two passions - travel and the arts. As a tour manager, I escort groups throughout Europe and especially Italy, my favourite country of all. It doesn’t matter how many times I take people to Venice, Florence or Rome, I never get tired of these cities and were I to do so, I frequently lead groups to some of the lesser known but equally remarkable destinations in this stunningly diverse country. I also offer tailor made itineraries for individuals and families, including booking accommodation, local guides and so on. My complementary, parallel career in the arts has seen me directing or managing theatre, dance and classical music festivals and working with various companies on fundraising and marketing. And finally, in the spring of 2013, I achieved my dream of having my very own house Under the Umbrian Sun!
