Ralf was a difficult guest to please. He asked to change the booking from 7 nights to 1 night via airbnb on day of arrival, without giving any reason. We always email guests on arrival to ask if everything is OK and received no response, so we had no idea about any of his issues until he checked out. His only communication was to say that the wifi did not work, so we immediately provided him with the code (which is also available from the airbnb info and in the info file in the apartment). His complaints included items like parasol was too small (we have had the same ones all 9 years of renting and never had a comment before). He called the pool a child's pool - it is 1.4m deep (legal depth in Italy) and 10m x 6m and shared between only 4 apartments, so that seemed a little unfair. Especially as much smaller pools are shared between up to 26 apartments in the same area. He said he could not find the coffee machine, but did not ask us where it was (we could have told him). He also complained that the photos did not match the apartment - the only difference was new (better) sofas that we had put in a few weeks ago. We have now updated our photos. He also complained about the price. He actually booked a reduced price week at €950 instead of €1500. We have not increased our prices for 9 years, and they are typical of a 2 bedroom apartment in a complex with shared pool on the western shore below Menaggio. As for the donkeys on the plot of land next door, in the past we have only had positive comments about them, particularly from people with children who usually adore them. But after his comments, I will definitely alter the description to mention them, so that people are aware of them before they come. Whilst e are sad that he did not enjoy his holiday, we do feel that his comments are more than unfair. We normally get superb reviews from our guests and we are always available (and happy) to assist whenever required, as we live locally. Check out our more realistic reviews on Trip Advisor.
