El alojamiento

This brand new, Cat. 9 earthquake safe, guest house with 24 hour electricity with a new solar water unit with gas water heating back-up to assure you of hot water. We are located right outside the West Gate of the local temple. It is the oldest Hindu temple still actively used in the Nepal. It is like a step back in time.

If you are looking for nightlife of Thamel, this is not for you for two reasons. First, it is a long ride to Thamel, about an hour. Secondly, if you are out that late you would not be able to get a ride home. But if you want a very quiet place where the air is clear and you can almost touch the stars from our rooftop then you will enjoy it. In fact, you would do well to schedule your first night or two here to recover from your trip from the West.

Servicios y zonas comunes

We have a dining room and kitchen for our guests only, not a restaurant for the public. We serve quality, vegetarian breakfast and dinner. You can have just about anything you want; just let us know. We also have TVs in the living rooms. Guests are welcome to use our living rooms as their own space for using the WIFI or visiting.

Atención a los huéspedes

I am always happy to help my guests with information about Nepal and have a box full of tourist brochures, maps and movies about Nepal.

I do not have a trekking agency and do not earn any money on my advice except from the sales of my eBook, Nepal: A Tourist's Manual. You can do a search for FrugalTravelsNepal to find my eBook and blog. Both are filled with information to help you get the most out of your time in Nepal.

El barrio

Although still in the Kathmandu Valley, we are a bit higher in elevation. We have beautiful views and clean air. This is an ancient village. Many of the people do not speak English. The people live and dress as they have for generations. They are very friendly and speak the international language of smiles-even when they do not speak your language.

Cómo moverse

From Changunarayan Bus Park, there are buses that leave to Bhaktapur every 30 minutes, all day long. From there you can go to Kathmandu or just enjoy this ancient city which is also very beautiful. If you come during a full moon there is usually a festival. Some are not so tourist friendly, but others can be the highpoint of your trip.

We usually go to Kathmandu by car at least once a week. If you are here when we go you are welcome to come along with us.

Otros aspectos destacables

There is a 300 NPR ($3) admission donation that you have to pay at the entrance of the village in order to get to the guest house. You only have to pay once even if you stay several days. The money collected goes to the local temple, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

We also have a room for your trekking guide. If you come here with a guide he will stay free of charge in a room with an attached bathroom. We also provide dinner and breakfast for him. He will love you!

Normas de la casa
No se admiten mascotas
Puede ser inseguro o inadecuado para bebés (de 0 a 2 años)

We mostly serve vegetarian food due to health factors of eating meat in Nepal as we can have a few hours of blackouts each day. Although we have an inverter, a refrigerator could hardly run on it. However, if you really want meat we can comply and buy it at the local market.

Please make sure the water in the bathroom is always turned off after use. When the tank on the roof empties we need to pump it back up so we ask you to use only what you need.

If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask! We are happy to help :)

Lovely place to spend the night after seeing the Changunarayan temple. Roof terrace with view of stars, home cooked meals and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Star view was a lovely get away from the city.. We ended up staying a few extra nights as we didn't want to leave. The room was great, perfect view, clean and comfy bed and super hot water any time of the day. The locals were ever so friendly and clearly welcomed all tourists. Couldn't recommend this place more ☺

So true about our village. Imagine how I feel-I never want to leave. One wouldn't think I planned well for my old age, but here I am sitting on top of a mystical hilltop overlooking scenes of the Kathmandu Valley and sometimes the Himalayas. The gentle breezes with organic coffee on our rooftop terrace are favorites with our guests. It was really nice meeting you. Hope you stop by this way again.

A very interesting stay. Weekly visits to Kathmandu were arranged, the bus to Bhaktapur was just a short walk away, and it was a real opportunity to get up close with the locals who were very friendly. Amanda was also very helpful in arranging local sightseeing trips. I had arranged to stay for a month but had to leave after two weeks due to a death in my family, and Amanda immediately offered to refund my money. Thank you for your kind concern.

I stayed with Amanda twice during my time in Nepal - and each time I stayed no less than 1-week. This place is a home away from home for me. It's the perfect get away from Kathmandu's dust and noise. It is seriously a magical place with a panoramic view of Kathmandu and the rooftop sunsets are not to be missed. There is so much to do within walking distance and waking up in the morning hearing the sounds of the pujas at the Vishnu temple and the Bhajan next door is spiritually uplifting. How amazing is it to walk through a temple on your way into town for a coffee every morning. Love. Love. Love. The rooms are comfortable and my bed was HUGE with a comfy blanket. Hot Water, WIFI, original thangkas as artwork (painted by Ashok), big comfy bed, mossy nets (if needed), This place is perfect. Amanda (aka 'Grandma') is a delight full of laughter, and insights about Nepal. Ashok (her guest house manager) makes delicious traditional Nepali dinners everynight and will run errands with or for you if needed. I highly recommend StarView to anyone visiting Nepal - whether it be for a some quiet time or some time to truly experience the Newari culture and lifestyle.

Everyone here was amazingly friendly, hospitable and understood what we needed. Amanda was a wonderful host and the staff she had there was hard working and incredibly sweet. I was travelling with a group of four, and we took up three rooms, the patio areas and it became our home. We were there for about a week during May, two coming off of an 18 day trek, another having traveled from living in Thailand for 4 months and myself just arriving in Nepal for three weeks. It is located at the end of a road through a lovely and welcoming village and temple area, Changu Narayan, overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. The building is brand new and beautiful, the rooms are really well done and very large. The water system is new, too the showers are *very* hot, so start cold water first then slowly with hot. The patio deck is a great place to take sunset photos and watch the stars. Make sure to walk through the village and talk to people, they are all really fun and love to give a history of Nepal, you can easily make friends. They just opened the new dining room, which is the bottom floor, overlooking the Valley and the village passersby. Take a day in the village pondering the wares and the temple grounds, it's all lovely. Stop by the Changu Guest House Restaurant, take a bus into Bhaktapur for the day - it is worth the $15 US/$1500 Rupees - it's huge and easy to wander. It's a great vacation spot to chill out for a week or more, forget what time it is, except for the bus - get on in Bhaktapur before school lets out at 3ishpm or you have to crunch in, I had a 50/50 record of getting on. Or take a taxi, $8/10 US or rupees is a fair price, depending on time of day. It was a welcome home from Kathmandu's busy scene, and much more a sense of village life and Nepal culture than we got a week later in Pokhara. It was the highlight of my three weeks in Nepal, I'm looking forward to returning as soon as I can.

While the entire building was not completely finished yet, the room we stayed in was very nice with a large comfortable bed and private bathroom. The room and the rooftop had an great view of the Kathmandu Valley. Amanda provided us delicious meals and plenty of advice for our travels around Nepal. The town of Changunarayan is relaxed and interesting. Great place to stay!

I'm a retired American expat loving my life in Nepal. You'll love our village. It's above the pollution line of Kathmandu and is only less than an hour away. If you have any problems while you are here just let me know. I'm always happy to help our guests even if it's in the middle of the night.

I have a blog about life in Nepal. You can do a search for it with just Frugal Travels Nepal. People find it quite helpful.
