With our 40 years of experience as architects in designing and development of tourist facilities in Skyros (Lithari, Pithari, Villa Madalena, Patriko and some others that are built now within the scope of European funding) in 1999 we built a little gem called Kochylia in Chora - which is the traditional car-free main settlement of Skyros just opposite of the church Agios Ioannis.

Kochylia are 5 independent fully furnished apartments of different sizes and equipment. The walking distance to the main place of Chora is 5 minutes.

Built in accordance with the strict skyrian rules of architecture and decoration, the apartments attract the attention of sophisticated and conscious visitor, who is willing to take a walk in order to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the traditional Chora and the location of the apartments.

Due to the absolute tranquility, the strictly traditional ambience and the enchanting view over the whole Chora up to the monastery, in the high season, there are no parking possibilities near the building.

However there is a steep concrete street available for transport as well as loading and unloading luggage. A private land nearby offers out of the high season 5 parking places for the neighborhood! The street requires a car with four-wheel drive. Long term parking is not allowed here.

Apartment 5: for 2-3 people (45m2) - seablue
Entrance courtyard (19m2). With small cafe table and director's chair, pergola with wisteria, restricted view by opposing houses.
Ground floor (36m2): Includes 2 rooms:

A living room with sofa that can be used to sleeping, shower and W / C, a wooden staircase to the open gallery (Sfa) with a skyrian wooden wallcover (Bulme), a traditional skyrian wall shelf, skyrian ceramics, copper plates, traditional skyrian chairs and a table, a fireplace
A separate kitchen (stove / oven and fridge) with dining area and exit to the entrance courtyard.

Sfa (9m2): with a double bed, wardrobe
A small terrace (5m2) overlooking the village and the surrounding hills

Our stay at Kostas' was perfect. He picked us up at the airport and told us anything we needed to know about the island. The place was clean and traditonally decorated. It is a quick walk to the centre and also a quick walk to the beach. We feel very lucky to have stayed there.

We stayed in Kostas's place for one month. We absolutely loved the home, the location and Skyros. Most importantly, we loved the people, and especially Kostas and his wife, Viola. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the airport by Kostas and given a ride to the apartment - something that was not expected and most kind. After a brief orientation, we felt at home right away: the apartment was fully equipped, had a nice kitchen, etc. A cleaning lady came every four days to change our sheets and tidy up slightly. She even offered to do the laundry for us once, which was lovely. The apartment had great running water (never issues with temperature or pressure) and excellent WiFi with 3 access points to choose from! One day, as we were riding around town in our scooter, we were lucky enough to bump into Kostas and Viola, along with the their son, Platon. They offered us to spend an afternoon at their home in Pefkos, which was a very kind gesture. The day we met up, they shared some wonderful treats with us (local ice cream, Greek coffee!), some incredible stories from their lives and about Skyros, and then we enjoyed a swim in their amazing pool and a friendly game of croquet! Platon was a fantastic player and teacher. He is a super bright and mature young man, and hanging out with him was genuinely fun and exciting. As if there were not enough, they invited us to dinner that evening. We all got to hang out and experience real Skyrian hospitality and learn some interesting facts about the place from locals. I share the details of our gathering because it is important to show just how wonderful Kostas and Viola are, as this reflected very much on the kind of apartment they rented us, and more importantly, on the kind of hospitality and overall impression we received from our vacation on their island. We would highly recommend staying with them as hosts. It worked for us as a couple on a romantic getaway, and it would work for a family with children as well. The only type of vacationers I think maybe this would not work for is if they were party animals who want to go loud clubbing every night - but of course this is not why you come to Skyros, as you have Mykonos not too far... As a final tip for those who will be staying in Skyros for the first time (as was the case for us) - rent a scooter or a car! You will get to experience so much more. HUGE thank you and hugs to Kostas, Viola and Platon!

We enjoyed very much our stay. Costas drove us from and back to the airport wich was so kind of him. Costas and his wife are very welcoming and always here to help if you need anything. The house is well located and very nice. It is in the village, nevertheless it remains really quiet, the balcony is great to gaze at stars at night. I would utterly recommend this house and its hosts.

Costa's house was exactly as we desired. Clean, comfortable and easily accessible by car, which is a great asset, if you stay at Chora. The spot is ideal, 7 minutes walk up to the buzzing center of Chora and in a quite north/western district, equally close to other interesting corners of it. If you visit at a cold period, heating is great, which we truly appreciated that cold weekend of carnival in March, where we ended spending a lot of time in the house. The house is large for two people, with a big kitchen, adequately supplied, sitting table of four and direct access to large shaded yard. The interior is exactly as in photographs. It is traditionally decorated, bright and with a big and comfortable double bed at a raised level from which you have an open and lovely view to the sitting room downstairs, and direct access to a sweet and small yard. We mainly stayed at this corner of the house since the traditional Skyrian couch at the sitting room was replaced by a single bed. This spoiled the authentic atmosphere from the traditional construction and decoration of that room and minimized its potential. A sofa table and a table or floor lamp can also make it functional and cozy. Costas was great communicating with and an friendly host. He gave us a lift to the house, provided us with useful tips and was discrete and polite. We appreciated his genuine love for Skyros and cosmopolitan spirit. We'll definitely see you again Costas.
