Ubicación fantástica
El 95 % de los últimos huéspedes han valorado con 5 estrellas la ubicación.
Inspired by the Iroquoi longhouse and Ryan’s off-the-grid childhood, The Roost is an arched tiny home, framed with birch saplings. High atop a ridge, enjoy year-round views of the mountains from the porch. Hike up the ridge or cozy up by the wood stove with a book. Grill out, start a campfire or listen to the sounds of Bee Tree Creek in the hammock. Nightlife, food, coffee and breweries in Asheville and Black mountain are 15 minutes away. It's an hour to Great Smokey Mountains National Park!

El espacio
THE ROOST

A 12’ x 12’ tiny house with a back porch on a ridge.

Looking for an alternative place to stay near Asheville? In the winter months light floods the The Roost through three large windows by day, and by night you can enjoy the warmth of candles and twinkle lights. In the summer, leaves cover the canopy, and with screens on all of the windows and a fan you’ll keep cool. The floors are reclaimed mixed wood and decorated with woven rugs. Because of the slope of the ridge the back porch is suspend about six feet off the ground giving visitors the feeling that they’re in a tree house.

If The Roost is not available the days your looking for please check out our other Air BnB on the property, The Starling.

Sleeping:

Inside the longhouse you’ll find a comfortable full mattress that sleeps 2. The Roost can easily sleep a third using our tri-folding memory foam floor mattress. If you want the extra mattress you will need to let us know so we can be sure to bring it up for you.

Cooking:

We provide an electric hot plate for cooking, electric kettle, a wood stove, a dining table and clean water for drinking and washing up. The kitchen is stocked with plates, bowls, cups, silverware, wine tool, french press, a frying pan and a cooler for your perishables. Outside you’ll find a gas grill and fire pit for outdoor cooking.

Showering:

The roost has enough water inside for drinking and cleaning up. We do provide a Pocket Shower and a showering platform just outside. Heat water on the stove or fill the shower up with hot water from the spigot on the outside of our main house and then hang it on the designated line and there ya go. You are outside... so you might want to bring a bathing suit but it's not necessary. Google Pocket Shower to see videos. Air BnB won't let us post the link in this description. Sorry about that.

Bathroom:

The board and baton outhouse is just down the trail about 75 feet. We have a great flashlight for you to get around in the dark and the outhouse is fully equipped with toilet paper and hand sanitizer for you.

Cell phone and internet:

There is minimal to zero cell phone service. If you have a smart phone or computer, there is wifi available in The Roost now!

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY

Enjoy twilight from the hammock hanging just outside or light the fire pit and have a drink while you relax. My wife and I are working on a network of hiking trails up "Rhododendron Ridge” where you can walk through forests of hemlock, maple, poplar, chestnut, oak, and of course, the aforementioned rhododendron.

SURROUNDING AREAS

15 Minutes to the west in Asheville, and the same to the east in Black Mountain, you’ll find top-notch dining, coffee, music, and nightlife. Plus, Pisgah Brewing Company is less than 7 miles away with live musical performances and incredible brews. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Pisgah National Forrest, packed with hiking trails, is 10 minutes away, and Great Smokey Mountains National Park is just over an hour away. Charles Owen Park is less than 2 miles away with a playground, baseball field, fishing pond, and hiking trails leading through Warren Wilson College. We’ll provide you with a list of our favorite places to eat, drink and hike.

Note: The parking space is about 150 feet from The Roost. A path leads you up a 30 foot elevation gain from parking to The Roost. If you arrive after dark you’ll need a flashlight (or cell phone) to get up the trail.

Servicios y zonas comunes
Full and private access to The Roost, your own parking spot, the outhouse, hammock and your own firepit. Shared access to hiking trails and Wi-Fi.

Otros aspectos destacables
We suggest bringing a headlamp or flashlight for night walks around the property or to the outhouse, but if you forget yours don't worry... we have a great flashlight for you!

Dogs are welcome! Please keep in mind that we have a dog as well. We ask that your dogs be friendly with others if you want to allow them to run loose; ours does but usually sticks close to our house and is very friendly. If they don't like other dogs, that's ok! Please just notify us ahead of time and keep your dog on a leash while outside. Please make sure to clean up after your pet.

Please properly store all food and waste because the area is frequented by our local black bear and her cubs in the spring and summer. Though a bear attack is very very uncommon, we provide you with a bear horn.

A couple other things...

The sink in The Roost should only have liquids going down it since it runs straight outside. All solids need to go in the trash.

If you use the wood stove please read the instructions very carefully so it can be the most efficient for you. The wood shed with the small pieces of wood are meant for the indoor wood stove and the larger logs by the fire pit are for outdoor fires.

Thanks so much we look forward to having you stay at our woodland paradise :)

The neighborhood is a quiet country community in the mountains of NC. Bee Tree Road is mostly locals. In the summer you can only catch distant glimpses of other houses through the woods.

Aly and I have lived in the Asheville area for about 12 years. Three years ago we bought our land, built our house, and during the winter, built The Roost. The next winter we built The Starling. I grew up in Maine in a solar-powered log cabin with an outhouse and Aly grew up in the Bay Area but we've both come to love the mountains. When we're not working other jobs we constantly work to improve the land and building funky structures on it. We have a 30 lb dog named Avi who is very sweet.
