Hi Melissa, thank you very much for your consideration in booking my house and I hope you had a good trip. I appreciate your review since it will help to improve the service. However, with your review, it is very necessary for me to give my ideas as well so readers can have a look on both sides. "The host said I told her we were arriving around 8:00pm, which was true, but we paid for availability after 3:00pm check in. However, it wasn't ready until 10:00pm (1:00am EST)." This statement is incorrect. The house was ready by the time the guest arrived which was when the cleaning guy was leaving. The guest was very abrasive and rude about the house not having air-conditioning. The listing states we do not have air-conditioning and the guest admitted that she didn't pay attention on it. On that day, I also accommodated the guests as much as I could. Westerville Ohio and San Jose California on average was around 75-80 degrees; however, San Jose's humidity is much higher giving it a much warmer feel. Also, the doors were left open during cleaning service provided allowing the cool air to escape. People are acclimated to the environment they live in so when a new environment is experienced, the individual will naturally be more sensitive to it. It is no fault of the host for the noise from a suburban environment and it is irrelevant the distance between the houses. For the record: - the houses are NOT about 2-5 feet apart and most run down. The houses on average have a 4 to 5-foot-wide walkway between the houses and the separating fence. This puts the houses on 8 to 10 feet apart from each other. The Bay Area is very expensive to live in and requires more family members to live together to afford the high cost of living. This is not an opinion - this is a fact. With more family members this requires more cars and more traffic. As for the houses they are not run down, they are older and express a different time period in our history for which they were built in. The host cannot be at blame for what the guest feels is run down. "My son took a 5-minutes lukewarm shower and then no hot water and little pressure after that." I apologize for any issue like that since it was a new issue and was not reported. However, the water temperature and pressure issues has been resolved. "What was supposed to be a relaxing day by the pool ended up being a nightmare. We never used the pool but looked at it and there were a lot of bugs in it. The patio had dead plants, old pool floats and didn't feel inviting." I am very sorry if the guest felt that way with her poor vision, especially at night time. There are many variables to this situation and it is not fair to poke at things that are irrelevant to what being offered on Airbnb listing. When I list my property on Airbnb, customers' safety is my top priority. My pool has a cleaning schedule every week and it has been used by many guests without complaining about it. Guest's observation was completely wrong. The pool didn't have a lot of bugs in it. There were leaves and pollinating flowers. It was also so windy on that day. The pool guys came on Friday so I am sure there were a few leaves in the pool. We tried to water the plants in between guests. For the record, there were 2 hanging plants that were taken down for replacement and a few pots along the back fence. It is incredibly unfair to look for things to complain about. The old pool floats were left behind by the previous guests and the host is not expected to provide floats to the guests. It is very clear that the guest was upset and made irrelevant personal opinions on what she
saw and did not like. It is extremely unfair to take your anger out on someone by bashing them in person and over the internet. We carry ourselves with a level of professionalism which should be reciprocated. I would also like to report that when the guest checked out the bed sheets and towers were all over the floors and the lights and fans were still on. I provide my home for you to stay in, all I ask is your respect for my home and to understand the operating cost to provide this service for you.
